My mom spent a month in the hospital. The hospital bill came and it was $56,000. The bill was itemized but there was one charge for $36,000 that wasn't labeled. Turns out that doesn't matter because the hospital submitted the bill to Medicare. Medicare paid $3,000. The hospital bill is now $0.00.

Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled she doesn't owe anything but also...wtf?

I want to start by saying I LOVE dogs, and I think there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Three years ago, my husband and I rescued a mutt from a local shelter knowing full well she came with some complications - she was a street dog from a rez, and had some fear of men and other dogs. Through lots of love and training, she's grown to be an amazing companion who loves people, kids, and is great at ignoring other dogs when we walk on trails. If she's overstimulated or tired, I'll often pull her to the side of the trail to just sit quietly as other dogs walk by. This has worked so well for us, and I'm so proud of the progress she's made!

To help with her training, we only walk her at parks that are leash mandated. There is a full off leash dog park about two miles away, so I want to be clear that there are local options for an off leash walk.

So why do so many assholes think they can bring their poorly trained dogs off leash here??

Three times in the last WEEK, we've run into people on our walking trail with poorly behaved off leash dogs!!! Dogs running right up to mine, getting in her face, trying to sniff her butt when she's clearly upset. When I ask the owners to please recall and leash their pets, I'm met with scoffs, disdain, and one man escalated so much that he got red in the face, calling me a fucking bitch. I ended up crying in my car about it. I'm often walking alone. How the fuck am I not supposed to feel threatened by a man with two off leash German shepherds calling me a bitch? I called the non emergency line to see if local PD could help enforce the leash law, but just today, I was met by ANOTHER off leash dog.

Each instance is setting my own sweet dog back, because the more we're menaced by these bad dog owners, the more my dog is trying to defend me, barking and lunging. I don't want her to unlearn the years of training we've done with her to keep her peaceful around other dogs!

I just want to enjoy a beautiful, relaxing walk with my dog without feeling scared that around any corner might be another incident waiting to happen.

Please leash your dogs. It's ruining the park for the rest of us.

I’m working on my laptop at a brewery patio, sending a few emails and preparing a document. A man sits down across from me and then asks if I mind, affable me says sure, go ahead. Then I look around expecting tables to be full, there are more open tables than not…

He then proceeds to state, “I used to try to work done at breweries, just found I could never get anything done. I won’t bother you though”

Two minutes later he’s talking to me about the beer he ordered, and not taking the cue as I acknowledge and go back to typing. Then periodically tries to open up more conversation, with minimal response from me. Also is muttering to himself as he uses his phone…

I know I could have gotten up and moved but I didn’t want to make him feel bad (maybe he is a bit lonely). Even feel a bit bad posting this. But dammit, I was here first, there are abundant tables, it’s obvious I’m focused, and continually obvious. C’mon man, don’t be so mildly infuriating…

Every time we go places with our kid, my wife gets annoyed by sick kids out there. She says it's very irresponsible of other parents to let their sick kids go out and make others sick too. She literally gets irritated and goes on ranting for hours. Same thing applies to sick coworkers that she rants about after coming home. She says they just should stay home instead of coming and making others sick.

Then she herself gets sick somehow and still goes to work—no, she's not sick, she's just tired of all the whimsy losers like me that chicken out in front of a sniffle. When our kid is sick—legitimately runny nose and fever with cough—she insists to still go places. If I mention how she get annoyed by other parents that drag their kids while sick, she says our kiddo is not sick, it's just very humid lately and all the wild fires cause the cough. She is not cancelling anything that is already paid for.

Is it just me?

We used to have the Do Not Call list, but that doesn’t mean anything, anymore. With all of the technology we have, why won’t Congress do something about this?

I am moving into a new apartment tomorrow. I got all of my utilities set up last week with no issues. But suddenly late Saturday I get an email from the power company (Dominion Energy) stating that my request to shut off power at my new place has been submitted. At first I thought I had goofed up and hit stop service instead of start, so I call them this morning to get it fixed. They tell me on the phone that some other person claims to be moving into or from that unit the day after I move in and they requested they change. I correct them that I'm moving in and need the power on. They say no problem and fix it. 5hrs later it gets switched back to a stop service request! I call again and they tell me the same thing happened. They refuse to tell me any details about who is doing this and tell me to take it up with my leasing office. My leasing office is confised, they don't have anyone moving that week besides me. They suggest I send Dominion a copy of my lease to prove it is me that wants power on. I call Dominion and the refuse to let me send them my lease! They tell me that they are required to honor all requests to turn power on and off! I ask then if I could just call in and turn off my neighbors power, and they say YES! Repeat; ANYONE can call and turn of ANY ADDRESS' POWER!!!!! That's insane! I called my leasing and they think it is insane! Still working on a solution. My service request hasn't been flipped again yet, but I'm worried it might be. Not sure what will come of this.

then packed up the bottom layer of the berry chantilly cake (with no berries) and sent it home with us.

EDIT: I'm adding details here. It was a friend's birthday, we made a dinner reservation. We called ahead and asked if we could bring a cake from Whole Foods (for those outside the US, this is a grocery store chain). They said that was totally fine and they'd be happy to cut and plate it. They proceeded to serve us the top two layers of the cake and give us the bottom layer to take home as leftovers. This is (IMHO) an very weird way to cut a cake.

I have a lot of doctor’s appointments, and I know how busy and hard these people work. I’m not mad at them and I’d never be rude. I know it’s not on purpose. Nevertheless, it’s still a bit infuriating to make time for a scheduled appointment, arrive 15 minutes early (required), and then wait this long with not even an acknowledgment of the delay from anyone. Sigh. 9:55 now, still waiting.

Edit: I really appreciate all the comments! The doctor ended up coming in shortly after 10. This was a specialist ortho appointment for my shoulder. Still no acknowledgement of the delay, which would’ve been nice, but I’m more annoyed that my concerns were pretty much brushed off again during the whole 3ish minutes he spent with me. I know waits can get long, I wouldn’t care as much if the doctor had at least seemed somewhat concerned with my issue. Sigh… gotta love American healthcare!

I understand the fee, okay I’ll pay it but asking for personal information so I can cancel my membership seems out of place.

To note: I have to use FB. It’s the only space where I have groups for my hobby. I have no alternative. Also I do not engage with or hate watch right wing propaganda on there. I’m constantly inundated with far right propaganda. I quickly block and scroll on, but these outlets are just making new subsidiary accounts and getting right through to me. They finally created this new popup that says they’ll only “limit some of the ways they can interact with me”. That’s not blocking!

I don't think the medical industry understands why it's a problem that there is a shortage of estrogen patches for women. It's been this way for a few months and I don't see a solution.

He's lucky I still love him after this. We had movers here that were bringing in our boxes so we had to lock him in my bedroom. This door was original to the house. I had planned to strip the paint off of the wood of the door and frame. Not so much anymore.

Edit: just to be clear this dog isn't mine. Mine is about 20 pounds and is totally crate trained.

The dog is 15 years old and belongs to my mother.

He's terrified of crates and has been since he was a puppy. He had one for years and refused to ever go inside of it. The only crate he was ever willing to go inside of was my old dogs crate (75lb doberman mix) while she was inside of it.

I don't actually blame him for ruining my door, that and me calling him a monster was the fucking joke.

He still spends half the day laying in my bed and yes I am working on training him. My mom seems convinced that because of his age there's no point in 'trying to change who he is' as she put it.

There's no lead in the paint. Flippers painted every bit of original wood about 10 years ago with this bright white latex paint. We do have lead in our floors and walls but not the doors, doorframes or window frames. Also I will be repairing this door, it's not getting thrown out over what I would call minor damage.

The dog has seen the vet since this incident and has been confirmed to be fine. We were more worried about possible impaction than actual lead since this is latex paint.

The moment I opened this door he bolted out into the neighborhood and chased several wild/feral animals for damn near a half hour. I managed to catch him and get him back in the house. The photo of him was taken right after he was back inside safe and sound. He's a good dog 98% of the time, he just doesn't like having barriers between him and people who could be giving him love.

Got back to my car, noticed shoe prints on the hood of my car. Upon watching sentry video, see this jackass jump on the hood, walk it front to back and then jump onto the car behind mine.

Literally as the title says; I got off work and came home (took my wife's car to work) and saw my truck had all its gas siphoned out. Police can't do anything and there's no cameras in the parking lot of my apartment complex. Literally $70 to fill up my gas tank gone
