I am thinking of the second amendment on the list of amendments sent to the states for ratification of what became the bill of rights.
"No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened."

It was the second on the list sent to the states, and not passed at that time.
At least part of the prestige given to the first and second amendments are that they are first on the bill of rights. But this is just happenstance.
Seven of eleven states needed signed it immediately.

Same here. I live in Massachusetts. Under Massachusetts law (Chapter 71, Section 52 of the General Laws), school committee members serve without compensation unless a specific stipend or payment is authorized by a majority vote at the member towns' town meetings. My town has never approved compensation for school board members.
Our school district is among the most highly rated in the United States

From your post history, I used the school district for Rutland, Vermont, it might be close, it might not be.

Pretty common in large cities. This isn't a school board for a middle school meeting like it's the PTA but a board overseeing dozens of elementary schools, middle schools, and highschools.
Using one example from my city we have a single person in charge of food distribution to probably over 100 schools, we built a new food manufacturing facility and now have a board member who's full time to inspect cafeterias, review inventory reports, and make sure the right deliveries are made so students get the meals as needed. It's not paid a ton but a full time job for sure.

Getting elected to any sort of position of power, no matter how trivial, seems to completely hijack people’s brains and transforms them into complete and total unapologetic, malignant narcissists and hypocrites.
These people are morally and ethically bankrupt to a fucking staggering degree. People don’t run for office or committees to do good or make changes to benefit the greater good for the communities we live in and share. No. They do it for the ability to enrich themselves and to boost their massive fucking egos that hide their crippling inferiority complexes.
Is that what being an adult is? Realizing the vast majority of people are selfish, brainwashed fucking morons that are totally and completely incapable of empathy?

It more that for most part only those who desperately want to be tinpot dictators desire these kinds of roles and are willing to do ANYTHING to get that shred of power. And those with money that want to influence politics are gonna funnel it to these kinds of candidates getting them elected for a relative pittance.
Then further select for that sort by them often also having way to much free time and in many cases not even having children at the school thus anything do there not hurting them. School boards tend to be the domains of Karens and creepy old men unless there a large enough group of parents in a district that are aware, motivated, and have the time/resources to successfully have multiple of them run.
Civic pride and working for communal good is a nearly dead concept in most of the US and we have few systems or traditions still around supporting that, School Board being one big example of that cultural decay.

Stealing the money/earnings of vulnerable groups in need is “the american dream”. The country was literally founded and built on slavery 🤷♂️
They’ve been glamorizing the practice, and the “greed at all costs” psychopath mentality for decades, and the facade is finally starting to fade, so theyre doubling down on the censorship and deprioritizing education and “taking over” colleges, to cut their citizens off from information about the outside world

This is like the Oakland school board voting that despite being bankrupt they wouldn't close any schools if it effected a majority "people of color" students.
I put it in quotes because they defined it as anybody not white, but Oakland split very evenly between black, hispanic, asian, and white people so it was a bunch of teachers and administrators voting to keep their own jobs. The state had to step in and force them to close schools or either lose state funding or have the state fire all of them and take over while hiring new people.

Everywhere I've been school board members are paid positions. They oversee all the schools in a school district. For example if a principal needs replacing, they are the ones who hire the new one.
The parent-teacher associations are volunteer.

Maybe they shouldn't have elected a fraudulent, Beyonce cosplaying comedian to lead them into a war with a more capable country because that's what the EU demanded.
If you were literate prior to the war you'd know Ukraine were viewed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world and a central hub in child trafficking throughout Europe.
They aren't saints, they're zio scum.
