That’s exactly what happened to me. When I got my new place, my auntie got me a new mattress as a present. She wanted to get me a bed frame too, but because the ones in the store weren’t what I was looking for (a solidly built ottoman) it ended up not happening.

Few months later I’m flipping my mattress and the underside is covered with mould. Now I’m paying off my new bed frame and mattress in instalments. Felt so upset that I didn’t get a frame earlier and ended up ruining a really kind gift from my auntie.

Honestly, the real question isn't "are you an adult" it's "do you sleep alone." Bed in corner obviously makes more sense if you're the only one using it, but it sucks if you sleep with another person. Then someone has to be next to the wall, they have to crawl to the foot of the bed or over the other person in order to get out, they can't have their own nightstand, etc.
