Just in case someone asked himself: "Does Wacom Pen Displays work with SteamOS / Steam Deck / Steam Machine?"
Short answer: Yes!
It works. Even without installing drivers or something. Just connect the display, start Krita, and go! 🥰

Good morning friends! Been having a wee bit of trouble with SteamOS lately in the Desktop Mode -- between not being able to boot into Gaming Mode and not being able to update the firmware in Discover (haven't tried doing it via the Steam client, going to try and do that when I get home from work), the quirks are building up. Not giving up on it yet, but probably looking to possibly switch distros -- at least just to try something different out! This is what I get for using this thing like a PC, which is what I wanted to do! Either way, best of luck friends! <3

When it’s turning on the whole led bar illuminates, but when the machine is fully on and ready it goes like this?

How we feeling about Machine performance? I can’t find anyone who’s played it on the cube yet, apparently it “runs” on the Steam Deck so I’m guessing 1080p 60 on the machine? The consoles are going for 4k 30-40fps and now have a 60fps mode so I’m hopeful.
I’d love a 1440p 60 high settings.

If your delivery was sent via UPS, did they require a signature? I work a 9-5 and can't be home to sign for a package and just wondering if they required one for you. If they did, I need to figure out a different way to have it shipped when my time comes. Not sure how to do that, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Basically title. Anyone else's Machine randomly shutting down completely in the middle of a game? Thought at first temp related (and not sure it isnt) but it doesn't seem to matter what game (low to high demand) and only started around 3 weeks after owning the SM (was working fine before).
If so... any fixes?
Did a search... didnt find much here or elsewhere (but if somebody else finds it, any help welcome).

I was contemplating whether to get it because of the price, but I was still very excited to see the email come in and I placed the order, I wanted to hold it in my hands and decide. I'm so glad I did so.
I have a PC with 5080 but the form factor and simplicity of just picking up where you left off is just so seamless. This is the best console I own (I have a PS5, XSX and NS2) in my opinion. And I believe over time, steam sale prices will make up for the price of the machine. My biggest backlog is on steam and I'm so glad I got it, it would be so convenient to travel with it, and I travel a lot unfortunately.

Are there any reports that developers using Easy Anti-Cheat might be opening up to SteamOS/Linux now that the Steam Machine has been released?

Hi, I noticed only now that there are these two rubber or silicone plugs in my Steam Machine‘s front USB ports. I believe they are for protection, but I cannot easily pull them out with my fingernails nor with a tweezer and I am afraid of ripping them off. They are blocking like the upper half of the port so I also cannot plug anything in. Weirdly, I don’t see them in any of the unboxing videos I watched. What is this??
edit: Turns out that I am dumb. It‘s not in the USB ports, it‘s from the front cover hanging over the USB ports. I took my Machine apart recently to upgrade the SSD and I simply did not properly reseat the cube into the case. Fixed now. Thanks everyone!

So I'm having this issue where if my steam deck and my steam machine happens to be on at the same time, the twos non steam games become available to stream from each other. That wouldn't be a problem if it was actual games, but I mostly use this feature for applications like Discord and Firefox.
I have a lot of the same apps installed on both of the devices, so when both are on there are two versions of each app on the screen and I don't see why I would ever want to stream Firefox instead of just opening it locally.
I tried using the hide feature, but then they also get hidden on the other device. Is there a way to prevent certain things in your library from being streamable?

Thinking of stuff from 1999 to 2010, mostly from GOG. How's performance? Is installation a headache? Surely these old gems can hit 4K 60 FPS easily, right? Would love to hear your hands-on stories messing around with retro titles on it.

Are people still getting their emails?
Is there anyone else out there, like me, who are still on the waitlist and have been since day 1?
It feels very disheartening to not hear anything at all. I’m just looking to see if there is anyone in the same situation?

Everything was going smoothly until I went to move the room it was in and I dropped it. The machine itself has been running fine (talk about testing how strong it is) but I cracked the wooden plate which is my favorite. Do you think valve will replace it if I contact them or do I just buy a new one?

Heya, got my Steam Machine 2TB w/ controller a little over a month ago, but I've been having major issues recently. At some point, one of the two SteamOS partitions broke and would never boot. It happened after a (self inflicted, had to flip the breaker off while thr SM was sleeping) power outage, it would sometimes show the Steam Machine logo but would never get past it (LED bar breathing blue). BIOS worked, boot loader worked, it would boot if I selected the other partition but never on the current one.
I got fed up and used the repair tool in the restore image. Worked for one boot, until updates applied. Decided to reimage completely, did that, everything worked, including updates.
I thought that was the end until I came home to the SM with its light bar on (white), acting dead otherwise. Had to hard power cycle and it refusing to boot again. If I fuck with it, force shutdown multiple times in a row, it boots again.
What the fuck. Is this a lemon or am I fucking up somewhere? I'll probably contact support in the morning
Update: decided to send Codex on a debugging adventure with SSH access and turns out partition A got corrupted…again. Apparently the btrfs metadata got corrupted from that improper shutdown…again. Can’t believe the install is so incredibly fragile, a power outage isn’t an unrealistic scenario with a device which spends a lot of time plugged in and sleeping.

Hello everyone!
My partner and I have just ordered a steam machine after getting off the waitlist. We haven’t been able to figure out if our ideal play mode is possible though, so I’d love to know what the rest of you are doing for this.
We both have our own steam accounts and family sharing is turned on.
We are also very firmly a Mac household (which is why we jumped on the steam machine to hopefully allow us to play more games (maybe even with mods!?) not on GeForce Now.
We each play very different games as well. We are wondering if it’s possible to be logged into the steam machine with one account to play on the television and then with something like remote play on a different account through the steam machine so the other person can play on the computer?
From my searching, I know it isn’t possible to be logged into two accounts at the same time for remote play, but wondered if there was a difference between playing on the machine directly and streaming?
Finally - if we use family sharing, if we log into the steam machine with one account, can we play two different games from the steam machine at the same time from the same account?
Thank you so much! Neither of us are super tech-y (hence being steam machine buyers haha) but we’re excited to have something that isn’t GeForce now to play on. Appreciate you all!

I joined the 512gb+ Controller queue on July 8 (in Canada). I'm seeing a ton of movement past June 26 in AUS and UK/EU (loads of people who joined even mid-July), but barely anything from NA. You'd think NA must be getting to a similar point... right?

With labor dia around the corner, I keep seeing bananas deals for gaming pcs. not gunna lie, I’m a bit tempted since I keep hearing ram prices are about to go parabolic.
Question for people on waitlist/reservation queue: what deal on a gaming desktop would make you reconsider buying a steam machine?
Or are you set on buying the steam machine no matter what?

Well... this is starting to feel like a bad joke...
The current equipment: Samsung TV QE65Q60RAT
Speakers: Logitech Z906
Things I tried:
Steam machine -> HDMI -> TV -> Toslink -> receiver -> Stereo
Steam machine -> HDMI -> TV -> ARC -> HDMI Extractor -> Toslink -> receiver -> Stereo
Steam machine -> Generic USB Sound card "CM106 like sound device" -> Toslink -> receiver -> 5.1 Sound, randomly failing and then the card not being detected again until restart. Absolutely unreliable. Tried with two cards, same behavior, the second one would fail even faster.
Steam machine -> Creative X4 (usb) -> Toslink -> receiver -> no sound!! are you kidding me? apparently this is a known issue, none of the output formats from the X4 are compatible with the Logitech Z906!!!
I am currently waiting for an analogue cable (should be here in 3 days) to connect the X4 to the analogue input of the receiver to test it. Honestly, I am not very confident as it also failed in the same way as the generic usb card during the tests, but I want to try everything before I return it.
Is there anyone out there actually using the steam machine with a 5.1 sound system successfully??
If that's the case, what hardware and connections are you using?
At this point I am open to replace the whole sound system, this is where I usually watch movies and series, and need a full working media player.

I have an external ssd 4to in an aluminium shell that I have connected to the usbc port
It works but seems less reactive than my internal drive
Sorry for my ignorance but is it better to connect it by usb or usbc ?
Any way to test the drive speed in desk mode ?
Thank you
