University student looking for recommendations

My family has been trying to get me to get an iPad for Uni, but all my devices are android (Samsung phone and HP laptop) so I just really don't want an iPad.

I need something where I can note take on and can just do my uni work in (and won't start just dying because of how much its being used - I had a Microsoft surface in high school and that was the biggest problem)

I carry a shoulder bag, so for the sake of my shoulder, I'd prefer something more lightweight.

When it comes to actual screen size, I have no real preference.

Any recommendations are welcome!!!!

iPad or Galaxy Tab for Medical School?

Upvotes

For context: I have never owned a single Apple device in my entire life. I run a custom Linux setup on my PC, and I genuinely love the openness of Android: sideloading APKs, having a real filesystem, running tools like Cloudstream... etc.
I had fully committed to waiting for the Galaxy Tab S12 to drop, and i guess that was the plan.

Then I brought this up to a few tech savvy people, and to my surprise, they told me to ditch the plan and just buy an iPad instead. Hearing this take kinda threw me for a loop, which made it a lot harder for me to consider which one to get.

The main argument was that iPads are just better optimized for medical school workflows: mainly the note taking ecosystem and app polish.

I need a tablet for heavy studying: annotating massive textbook PDFs, handwriting notes with a stylus, and running other apps for studying. But the thought of being locked into iPadOS, losing a real filesystem, and dealing with Apple's ecosystem restrictions feels pretty suffocating to me. Even though it's very pretty. Much prettier than OneUI.

I guess the main thing throwing me off is that I am definitely not a part of the Apple ecosystem. Will this be a problem?

For anyone in med school or heavy study workflows... Which one should I be getting and which model?

Would really appreciate real experiences before I make a final decision.

New Redmi Pad 2 at 20K INR or Pre Owned (Second Hand) Ipad 10th Gen(64GB) at ~24K INR??

Hey, i am thinking of buying a tablet and have been confused as of lately.

I wont be able to spend more than 25K INR at a tablet as it is my max budget.

My use case

- Note Taking

- Watching Lectures

- Leetcode

- recording some content for youtube (note app based content)

Note: I have a laptop which have linux and I use it as preferred device. I want to get a secondary device for viewing and others.

Redmi Pad 2

It is a good tablet with a decent processor for normal stuff and but I have seen reviews and they say this tablet will become slow in coming 2-3 years as the software is a bottleneck and it is a budget tablet.

Ipad 10th Gen

I was gonna buy the ipad 11th gen at 32K INR adn decided to wait for sometime to build some budget. However last month they increased price and its now about 49K and at best discounts even it is costing me 43K. So my best bet is to go ipad 10th gen.

Ipads are for longevity and they work great in long term as many of the reviews say and it is on sweetspot as to not too old and not too pricey even. I am getting a great deal at 24K.

What should I go for??

hallo in from the Philippines, tbh im pretty late in requesting this cuz im on my third year college now disbdkekz its cuz ive been debating if this is even worth investing on cuz this is an old gadget and I don't think ill be using it after I graduate (its a hand me down from my moms friend), ill probably use it to study for boards too cuz I dont have any proper gadget for myself and im just trying to make the most of it. ive been putting it off too cuz im too scared to buy online sa lazada or shopee cuz i feel like ill be scammed by how some prices are too low (this is why i don't shop online diehdiwhsj) plus id like to get these items as fast as possible within the week but that's probably wishful thinking, ive just realised now how useful it is when studying 😅😔 Also does the case also come with a screen protector of some sort or is it a separate thing 🥹

thank you for taking the time to read and help to whoever c:

Graciaaas!!

Tablet for chess

I've got 0 knowledge of anything regarding tablets and their surroundings, so here I am making a post in this sub.

I'm looking for a tablet for these activities:

- play chess (main scope) smoothly and without Lagg

- read ebooks&similar

- watch videoes

- play some lightweight play store game like tower defenses and similar

- excel, word etc etc

Hence, the most "heavy" activity would be playing chess, which as far as I know shouldn't be such an hassle for modern day tablets.

I would like to spend less than 150 euros, for buying this tablet is more like an extra comfort I'd like to have rather than a real need where it's worthed to invest big money.

Also, it would be nice if it was possible to connect a mouse and if the tablet could keep working smoothly when playing chess on the browser rather than on its dedicated app (allowing me to draw arrows, a feature that the app is missing). But this is just an extra.

Does such a tablet exist or is the budget too low?

PS:

Also a device with Microsoft would be fine tbh

huawei matepad 11,5 vs samsung tab s10?

i know people recommended the FE, but the pricing is out of my budget.

huawei matepad 11,5 papermatte is around $530
samsung s10 fe is around $564

meanwhile
huawei matepad 11,5 standard is around $380
samsung s10 lite is around $367

My needs are:
Zoom, schoolwork and writing. Actually very interested in the papermatte thing (i hate the slippery feeling), but the pricing is a bit steep..
is standard + paper tempered glass good enough?

Tablets for Students

Prior to starting senior high school, I thought that I could've just gone through the school year without having to buy a laptop or a tablet. But I soon realized how important that one must own a tablet as to make the workload more doable and convenient. As I did my research, I was left with the OnePlus pad 3. But before buying, I wanted to know whether there are other alternatives that may be better such as the Xiaomi pad 8 pro, apple or Samsung tablets. The screen size, resolution, and refresh rate is what makes me lean towards the pad 3 despite all the good things I heard about the iPads or the galaxy tabs.
