Please set a user flair with your pronouns

After some helpful suggestions from our members we have made some changes to our flair system.

  • You are invited to display your preferred pronouns in your flair. We hope this will help avoid misunderstandings.
  • All user flairs can be edited when you select them
  • From today you will receive guidance when posting or commenting to choose a flair.
  • In the coming weeks, users who don't have text in their flair indicating preferred pronouns will receive an automated chat message suggesting they update their flair.
  • When we have sufficient feedback on the system and the availability of default flairs, we intend to require anyone posting or commenting to have set a user flair and this will be enforced at the point of posting where you currently receive a guidance message.

Let us know how well this works for you.

Discussion Just because cis people are expert gaslighters doesn’t mean they’re right

I’ve noticed that since trans people are used to being worried about being kicked out of bathrooms, dressing rooms, restaurants, denied healthcare or employment, housing, etc that we’re constantly made to feel grateful for the lowest level of tolerance.

This place said they didn’t know what I was talking about with their employees talking badly about me right in front of me and laughing at me and making passive aggressive comments. So you know they’re just letting me know I must be crazy since other trans people don’t stand up for themselves.

I’m tired of cis people gaslighting trans people into silence when they are so obviously hostile. I’m tired of cis people thinking that just because most trans people are quiet about things and don’t call them out that that means the ones that actually do are just crazy.

We need to stop accepting cis people’s manipulative behavior and start expecting them to do better

Uhhh pick me’s this post is not for you. Instead of telling trans people to center cis people in their own hatred of us maybe get a sense of self respect and respect for people in your community. Cis people aren’t oppressed for being cis and we have a right to be upset with them

Vent My mom literally outed me to the whole family

I am genuinely so fucking annoyed because we've been bickering over this ever since April now and last night we got in a heated argument about it when she randomly bought up "me thinking that I'm a girl" and I said I don't think I know and that really set her off. After the argument she came up to me and apologised and said "I want you as /////// you're perfect as that you were born a man" and she said I know who you are I've gave birth to you and I always found that weird when she said that because she used to always say "I was meant to be a girl" hmmm.

And then after that she basically stormed out of my room and then I woke up the next morning and my nanny was there and my ma told me she told everyone (including my EXTREMELY transphobic dad) and at first I thought she was lying until I just got off the phone with my dad where he just literally gave out to me for an hour and blocked me.

I'm extremely annoyed and upset, I told her I was trans because I thought she would support me. She obviously doesn't and now she's basically trying to ruin my life until I stay closeted. I'm so sick of putting up with this and I have 3 more years. I plan on transitioning soon because I literally don't care what anyone thinks anymore, especially how most of my family doesn't want anything to do with me now ig I may as well just do it but idrk.

What would yall do in this horrible situation??

Discussion What part of being trans turned out nothing like you expected?

Not necessarily better or worse—just the biggest difference between what you imagined and what actually happened.

What did you expect, and what was the reality? One sentence or a whole story is welcome.

Discussion When did you first realize your gender didn't match your sex?

I am not Trans but I suspect my now son may be my future daughter. I accept and support this whole heartedly I just want to support their authentic selves.

However they are young. Soon to turn 4. They never have asked to be called a girl, but has been distressed about being called a boy. When this started I choose to use gender neutral terms like kid, dude, sweetie. When their older sibling, a girl, watches YouTube videos where there is something boys vs girls, they root for the girls. They have always loved tutus and skirts. When they both were really young we kept it gender neutral until the oldest had a preference just so we could maximize on hand me downs.

All the literature I have read is that by 4 kids should have genders differentiated.

I am pretty sure I already know the answer about my kid so I ask you folks a two part question. When did you know? How were you or would like to have been supported.

Thanks folks.

Celebration Update on Cis Male Friend possibly liking me (MTF/Trans Woman)

CONTEXT/FIRST POST!!

Sooooooooo :) first off, I appreciate all the cute stories in the replies and the sweet ones being supportive💘 y’all helped me be more confident with this situation :) thank you all!

but ANYWAYS the date went well.. i think VERY well. He took me to this steak house place :) it was very nice and cozy in there tbh. I wore the cutest outfit I could find, Dark red dress and some heels. He was honestly soooooo handsome like he reminded me of Tom Welling back in the 2000s 🥹 I complimented him and he was flustered :) ssooooooo adorable omg!!! Well fast forward to what happened. We talked about a bunch of stuff, memories, college, or work. I was going to bring up the yk elephant in the room (elephant being the fact that I like him so much) I was ready tbh, I even practiced back home lol. But then, he brought it up. Not the fact that I like him but the fact that he likes me. So me being awkward, I probably look weird like I didn’t know what to do but stare😭 like this is literally the moment I’ve been waiting for but I got mental blocked🥲 however me on the inside was freaking out. He got scared and apologized, saying he should’ve not said that but ofc I had to stop him from that, I told him that I liked him too :) like for a looooooong time now (well I didn’t say that part but ykwim) We both have like laughter like an awkward one but hey at least me and him both know that now🥹💘 Fast forward again, we got done and he drove me home and kissed me on the cheek hehe :)

maybe he did ask to stay the night… and maybe I said yes… and maybe he’s snuggled up next to me as i’m typing this… just maybe who knows ☝️🤓

Anyways :) I wanna keep updating you all so I’ll do my best to update asap <33

Possible Trigger LittleKuriboh’s Wiki Page Misgenders Her

If you didn’t know, the YouTuber LittleKuriboh, creator of the popular comedic parody series Yu-Gi-Oh abridged, came out as a trans woman (she/her) earlier this month, going by the name Bea. Some degenerate transphobes keep changing her Fandom Wiki page to the wrong name and pronouns. I have changed them back. I was not aware of the history of this page. I learned that I have entered into a weeks-long battle with people on both sides. My changes remain for now, but last time they were reverted within 24 hours. If anyone would like to help keep an eye on her profile for the next time it is wrongfully changed, or if anyone has any advice on what else to do in this situation, please let me know.

(I’ve never posted here before so if I did something wrong, let me know and I’ll change it)

Edit 1: Added more information.
Edit 2: I have contacted the admins with a vandalism report and am awaiting a response.

Non Binary Mom found out I’m starting T

My (24, ftm, nonbinary) mom found out I’m starting T cuz my insurance declined my claim(it’s her insurance). Wondering if anyone had any perspectives/studies/articles to send my mom on how this is beneficial and won’t cause me cancer or make me into a violent criminal. She keeps telling me she doesn’t understand why I would do this so hopefully I can help her try to understand.

Vent Dating as a trans man

Lowkey just a vent but I'm happy for people to comment their thoughts on this, might be nice to hear other perspectives or if people agree with/also struggle with this.

I'm gay, mlm, 20. I'm 5'4 or 5'5 idk, and just coming up on 3 months on T. Being short is important in this vent I swear 😭

I really wanted to start dating but don't really have a queer community as I'm stealth, have had no reason to tell anyone I'm gay because I'm not seeing anyone, and moved to a new city a year ago. So I downloaded Hinge.

There are a few guys I've wanted to talk to on there, but I feel like they're all way out of my league because I either look like a 12 year old boy or a masc lesbian. I almost feel pity for them if I message them because it'll be like they're dating a kid.

I've tried talking to other trans men but none I've spoken to have been my type, especially because most of them have been pre t.

The people who message me arent my type, and the people I want to message aren't going to be into someone who looks like a child or is only 5'4/5 😭

I just wish I was taller and felt and looked my age, then I might not feel less than.

Am I trans? Is demiboy seen as trans if you're AMAB? How is being trans different for an AMAB demiboy?

I've come to the conclusion that I myself am a demiboy but I was curious how does one go about being AMAB and demiboy? I've never truly felt like a boy 100% I've been raised almost entirely gender neutral and have been socialised ( because of maturity differences) with women as my friends.

This led me to discovering the label demiboy. I don't fully feel like a boy and that's exactly how I like to think of my gender identity as. Now is this the correct label and am I considered trans?

Questioning Is this euphoria?

Upvotes

Hey all, 22 y/o trans fem-something(?) here.

I'm still at that awkward fairly new stage in my journey where I'm constantly questioning if any of this is real. This is probably because my dysphoria isn't the worst (yet) and my emotions are so dulled all the time. I really struggle to tell if I'm happy or sad in general, let alone attaching those thoughts to my gender.

So how do I know that I'm trans? Well, I can definitely get quite worked up over my face and my body. I've been shaving obsessively since the denial beard was cleaved, and I crave the effects that HRT offers (the curves, the skin, the body hair thinning out). The concept of being called a man and nothing else for the rest of my life is horrifying to think about (I know I'm not a binary gender at least lol). Being called a man by coworkers or members of the public can sometimes seriously set me off.

I have so much evidence to suggest that I'm trans, but I don't feel trans. I don't feel like a girl, I don't feel like I'm non-binary, I just feel biased towards those attributes. It's like my life started to calm down after university and my sense of identity just completely shattered. Old childhood memories of wishing that I could grow boobs or wear dresses started to come back.

On a good day, wearing a cute feminine outfit can leave me grinning for no reason whatsoever, running my hands over my chest with a bra on can leave me with a feeling of comfort like I've just had a phantom limb re-attached.

I can't lie, this post is insanely rambly, but my main question revolves around pronouns. Most of the time they don't have much of an effect on me. Could this be the aforementioned lack of feeling? Perhaps, but it certainly leaves me feeling like I need to get dysphoria surrounding them to 'prove' trans-ness to myself. My internal monologue is still on a he/him basis which can really annoy me sometimes. The only hint of anything that I get is when I get called she/her or a girl sometimes, I can literally feel my heart skip a beat. I can't tell if it's out of joy or lack thereof, I can only really attribute it to the feeling of "ooh, that's new!".

Is this Euphoria? Have you had any similar experiences? Please let me know :)

Inb4 "you need therapy!" I know twin, I know. Shit is expensive though and it will be a while before I get there.

Questioning Just found out I’m probably trans?

For context, I’m afab but never really cared about my gender or pronouns, never felt too connected to femininity at all. I’ve been questioning my gender for a long time but always thought I was just very indifferent towards it all.

Now, for the first time ever I just thought about the fact that if we truly only live once, I would regret not living as a man, and it hit me pretty hard.

Idk if that means I’m trans or not but I just felt the need to get it off my chest.

If anyone wants to share their experience, that’d be really cool, just to hear some more perspectives while I try to figure everything out. Thanks for reading <3

Vent My mom wanted to include my deadname in a tattoo

Update 1:

Her and I have talked about this and resolved it. The main issue here was partly that she'd misunderstood me, thinking I wanted to ignore or erase my past, that I didn't allow her to think back of me in the way she wanted to. I belive she now understands the dysphoria and discomfort the deadname causes me. Thank you all for your advice!

Update 2:

Please do not judge my mom's mental state or wellbeing based on this one post, especially when doing so based on details that really are unrelated to my concern. Please understand that we can see things differently and have different ideas and disagree about it without the other party being stupid, dumb or emotionally unstable. Remember that she's my mom, who has saved my life so many times and helped through really dark times, and I love her. To point out flaws is one thing, to verbally attack her is another. Hasn't happened in this thread, but it did in another sub. Please don't do that. Thank you.

First of all, I just need to be clear about something: I love my mom, and she's been nothing but supportive in my journey of discovery and growth since coming out as trans. It took some time, but she's adjusted well to my change of name I use and the pronouns I prefer, so the issue here isn't a lack of support or acceptance.

This whole thing started several months back when she mentioned that she wanted to get a tattoo of five hearts, one for each of her children. That'd be me and my little brother, as well as her three miscarriages. I thought it was a really nice idea and had no issues with that until she told me her idea regarding the heart symbolizing me.

Basically, she wanted to include both my deadname and my chosen name, have them intertwined somehow, the old name turning into the new one. This is where I said that I didn't really agree with that idea, simply put because I don't want to see that name being permanently tattooed onto her as it would cause discomfort for me. I initially explained that it seemed like a way to hold on to the past and that it made me feel like she wasn't fully embracing who I am today. I told her as much, saying I thought the idea was nice symbolically, but that it would have been much more affirming if she'd just wanted to use my chosen name.

Me opposing that idea made her cry. She felt as if I looked at it in the wrong way, that the change from one name to the other was meant to be a sign of acceptance, a way to honor my past and present, a way to remember my roots while also accepting the person I am today. I basically feel like I ruined the entire idea for her and she never got the tattoo. Since then we've discussed this three times without resolving anything, always walking away from the conversation feeling worse than before.

She feels as if I want to ignore the past, that I want to forget who I was and what I came from, something that I've tried to deny by explaining that I am still the same person, even after changing my name, pronouns and gender expression. I do know that I was born a boy, that I was her son, a brother to my siblings, until the day I came out and asked them to accept me as something different. I can't deny that, nor do I want to. But even when I was little, long before coming out, I was transgender. I just didn't know it, I hadn't figured it out yet. No matter what my name was or is, I am still me. Always were, always will be.

It just doesn't seem to matter how I explain this to her, it's like she cannot even try to see it from my point of view. And I get that, I realize that it's probably impossible to imagine what it's like to be transgender and deal with gender dysphoria when you aren't transgender yourself.

It's just frustrating. Even after explaining that I've never really been comfortable with my deadname, even after trying to explain the dysphoria it causes me when people use the wrong name and pronouns and how it'd feel the same if she got that tattoo, she still seems to think that I want to ignore my past and forget where I came from, which is not the case at all.

I messaged her yesterday, a text at over 1200 words just trying to explain all this, and it didn't help either of us. We can agree to disagree, and I'm not opposed to seeing this differently. I just want her to understand where I come from in all this, I want her to realize that I am not in denial of my past or that I want to forget who I was, but that this whole thing is making me feel dysphoric. I've told her so many times now that I get what she wanted to symbolize, that I get her idea and that there's nothing wrong with what she wanted to do for her tattoo, but that it makes me feel really bad when I imagine seeing that tattoo on her and being constantly reminded of my deadname and everything tied to it.

I know that many parents or close relatives can feel a loss and even mourn someone when they come out as transgender. They have to let go of the son or daughter they were to embrace the person they have matured into. I know that they picked that name for me. That I was her first child, her first son. But I was also her daughter, simultaneously, just hidden under the surface until I was ready to come out. I just don't agree that my past would be erased because my deadname isn't included in her tattoo, because I am still me. And yet, she says she doesn't feel a grief, that she isn't mourning, the issue being me for looking at it in black and white, not accepting anyone else's perspective.

I don't know, maybe I'm in the wrong? Maybe I'm overthinking this and I'm just not seeing it clearly. I don't know. But if anyone has any kind of advice, no matter which side of this mess it relates to, please just let me know. I hate to be in conflict with my mom... I just want us to move forward from this, for her to understand me and for me to understand her. I'm just not sure what to do anymore.

Vent Just have to get this out of my chest

Please don’t defend or take sides with anybody having a problem with trans people or our rights. We are not doing anything wrong nor have we ever or will ever hurt or damage anything or anyone in any way just because we exist. If your parents or family or friends have a problem with trans people, you must understand that people like that are not good for you and it is not up to you to compromise any part of who you are just to keep them happy. If you find yourself with anybody like that in your life, leave them asap, hopefully you are able to, but always know that eventually you will have to. And for all the people stuck in bad or not fully accepting relationships of any kind, my heart goes out to you. This holds especially true for unaccepting parents. Ok love you all
