General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

General To all the freshies

I’ve seen soo many freshmen posts asking if their course load is doable and those scrutinizing the absolute stupidity of how the classes are scheduled. There also are some posts that says one should figure these things out on their own because after all you guys are college students now. I understand both sides. But I want all the incoming freshmen to know that the fact that you guys care soo much about your classes really does speak volume about how much u guys genuinely care about wanting to do well and leave a mark in ur college experience. It gives me hope for ucsd’s future. Welcome to college. Some experience might absolutely suck but somewhere along the way u learn a few valuable lessons that perhaps might come useful later on.

Question I got NO classes i wanted as an incoming freshman what do i do?

Upvotes

Context im an incoming engineering freshman got a 2pm enrollment time, and even though i was ready on the spot waiting for the time to tick i couldnt book any even the ones that shows available seating for a brief moment, itll show an error message either on capacity or something along the lines of waitlisting. ended up choosing two random classes one for DEI and another random one because i couldnt find any other that really fulfilled my GEs....

if anyone has the same experience and has advice for what to do, what do i do?
I'm panicking because i have no math at all booked....like waitlist and my chances of even getting the ones i want. so stressed

Rant/Complaint I'm classless

First of all my TEA requests never got approved so I worked my ahhhh off in HS for nothing *crying emoji* (no more CAT) and then timing the "book" button just right at 1:59:58PT did nothing as well for my other priority class

Who else did this happen to? I can't even waitlist yettt DDD: Will 2nd pass be better? thxs !

(also I'm not entirely classless I was able to book 1 singular GE which counts toward my college, not my 4 my major unfortunately)

Question UCSD TSS TEA/Courses advice

Im an incoming freshman at Muir, and today during my first pass registration I was unable to book MCWP40 and I realized they are yet to review my transcript and Ap scores😆. So ok whatever i submit a TEA request and it gets denied in ONE MINUTE. So I submit another one and the exact same thing happens. If anyone has any info regarding what I should do plz lmk as I was trying to knock this out first quarter.

Additionally, I was planning on taking Chem6A, and realized I cannot due to not taking calculus or the required pre reqs so I was going to sign up for Chemical Thinking, a course I believe will satisfy the pre req so Im able to take Chem next quarter, and additionally it told me “this section isn’t open to your class level”, but right above it said open to freshman and sophomore. So currently I am just enrolled in Intro to HDS and intro to stats and analysis. Im a pre- med so Im a little worried my classes aren’t structured well enough

Thanks for the help and listening.

As the title says, it’s been way past the dates listed for housing details and room assignment/move in day and I still haven’t heard anything. Anyone else having this issue?

General Class TIPs for incoming students.

Make sure you are looking up UCSD Courses Offerings per department. You will have a better shot securing your classes if you know when more professors will be teaching it. Example: Physic 2A shows only 1 class offered for Fall Quarter, so the odds of getting into this class is very tight. Although, Winter Quarter shows 3 sections that will be offered which means you are way more likely to get into the Winter Quarter. Always look up each Course offerings (just google it) to see when your best chances are to get into a class you need.

Again example: just google UCSD Course Offerrings for Math which brings up this for ALL math: https://math.ucsd.edu/students/planned-course-offerings

I was hyperventilating trying to get classes as an incoming freshman. I ended up getting what I wanted with very few spots left. Thank you and good luck to those who are going soon ❤️

Question Is there anything to do if you’re conditionally booked?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m an incoming freshman trying to register for CAT1 but my TEA request for the course hasn’t been finalized. Right now it says that it’s been conditionally approved, so when I went to register for the course it says it’s been conditionally booked. Do I just wait and do nothing until my TEA request gets its final approval?? Will I have to revisit the class and book again afterwards?

Question is choir worth it

i’m an incoming freshman at 7th college and i just booked Math 10B and Bild 4 during first pass. i also enrolled in Mus 95C, concert choir, but i wanted to ask if its worth it to take.
Is it true that you’re expected to commit to it for the full year? If so, that takes a huge chunk out of every wednesday and it’ll make it harder for me to enroll in certain classes in the winter and spring quarters because it limits the different time periods i can book for my major and ge classes.
I do really love choir and singing though, and my experience in high school choir is part of the reason i’m planning to minor in music and why i want to continue choir at ucsd.
if there are any upperclassmen that did concert choir, how did that work out for you and was it difficult to get certain classes you needed? was it worth the difficulty?
sorry, this is something i’ve been very conflicted about and i just wanted to see if there was anyone who could help!

Question Do Math 20C Classes Open More Slots When the Quarter Starts?

I was eyeing the 4pm lectures since they fit perfectly with my schedules and a job, and in 10 minutes all the slots already vaporized.
Do Math 20C classes usually open up more seats, or is it just cooked? 😭

Question Waitlisting WCWP 10A

Is it worth it to waitlist WCWP second pass? I feel like few people are going to drop it especially because it is a required course.

General CPT pause - opportunities you don't need CPT for

Upvotes

Hey! Saw that a bunch of schools stopped authorizing CPT. Wanted to share this list of cool things you can do without a CPT. We handpicked almost every single thing (not a dead AI list).

https://rootsimmigrationhelp.com/internships

We're both international students and want to do something helpful. Let us know what you think!

90% of the list is public, but for a few parts we charge $3 to cover the cost / protect against scrape. If that's an issue, please DM me and I'll send you the list for free.

Question fridge + brita filter combo recommendations?

Upvotes

I'm looking for a minifridge to put in my dorm, so preferably a small one, but I also want to be able to fit a brita water filter inside. I want to put the fridge under my lofted bed which has 2 ft 8 in of height clearance, so the fridge can't be too tall. The problem is that the brita filters I've seen are all pretty tall. Does anyone have recs for fridges that maybe have adjustable/removable shelves so that I can fit a tall brita filter inside?
