Tips & Info Driver timeout issues on 7900XTX + potential fix

Throwing it out in case anyone faced the exact same issues - it may or may not apply to others.

Specs -
5700X3D + 7900XTX + 128GB DDR4 RAM 4x32

Tl;dr - reinstalling windows helped.

Details -
Opening any random video on my PC and trying to close the media player would either cause driver timeout, or straight up crash the PC and force a restart. This was NOT the case up to a week ago or so when everything was working fine.

Major changes I know happened was a bunch of windows updates alongside AMD updating to 26.8.1 and updated chipset drivers. I thought it could be fixed with rollbacks - didn't work. I tried 26.7.1, 26.3.1, 24.12.1 and even Radeon PRO 26.Q3 (as mentioned in another recent thread here) - none worked. Probably ran DDU as well like 5 times for various different versions - no results either.

Asking Claude for troubleshooting just blamed the GPU and said to RMA it, while half the threads here blamed the memory (which memtest86 showed no errors with, and anyways this PC worked flawlessly up till a week ago) - caused me to suspect the OS next. Kept this (reinstalling OS) as a last resort but glad it worked out for me - shouldn't have been the case (having to reinstall the OS to fix some issue caused by updates is NUTS) - but it is what it is.

Brand new RX 9060 XT performs underwhelmingly

Hey everyone! I recently bought an RX 9060 XT (16gb) and I am less than happy with it's performance. In certain games like CS2, I saw a very mild fps jump, and in other games, like Helldivers 2, it performed the same as my old GTX 1080. I have a 1080p monitor, an I9 9900k and 32 gb ddr4 ram. I deleted all nvidia drivers with DDU, I downloaded the latest AMD drivers, what else could I do? How could I improve its performance? Did I do something wrong?
Thank you for the answers in advance.
EDIT: With the help of a professional we concluded that the cpu is a slight bottleneck. After a windows reinstall and many small tweaks (and failing to access BIOS because of a faulty keyboard lmao), it works a lot better and now I'm happy with my gpu. Also here in Hungary, this 9060 XT was my best possible choice for a 16 gb gpu. Thank you all for your patient and supportive replies!

Tips & Info What do I do with my 9070xt

hey guys so I built my first pc around December of 2025 and ever since the start I’ve had stutters on every game every game and ever since I updated the gpu drivers in April I’ve been crashing every week doesn’t matter which drives I roll back too. (From December 2025 to march 2026 I never crashed) once it crashes I am stuck on 30 hz when I boot back up and I have to ddu for it to work back normal. If I force shutoff right before it crashes it starts back as normal which is weird

My pc could be stable for 2-4 days running any games and then out of nowhere it crashes(even on YouTube or Home Screen) I am new to pcs so I tried researching solutions but I feel like giving up.Do u guys think I should send it for RMA ?

Was thinking also of buying a 5060ti just to test if its my gpu of other components

Thanks 🫡

Tips & Info RX 7900 XTX Driver Timeouts / Black Screens on Dual Monitors (Cable & FreeSync Fix)

Upvotes

I’ve been dealing with persistent AMD driver timeouts on my dual-monitor setup, but I finally resolved the issue completely. If you are getting random crashes or driver timeout popups (especially when browsing Chrome/Edge, watching YouTube, or opening Steam), check your physical connections and sync settings.

The Fix:

Stop mixing cable standards (Use DP 2.1): I originally had a mismatched cable setup (mixing older DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI with a newer DisplayPort cable). The older cables physically couldn't handle the bandwidth for high refresh rates. This caused the GPU to fail its link-training handshake when jumping from idle to hardware-accelerated video, which Windows flagged as a driver timeout. Running two identical, high-bandwidth DisplayPort 2.1 cables completely eliminated the bottleneck.

Enable FreeSync on BOTH monitors: Having FreeSync enabled on my main monitor but disabled on my secondary monitor caused the AMD display driver to freak out. It struggles to juggle variable refresh timing on one screen and fixed timing on the other. Forcing Adaptive Sync / FreeSync to ON through the physical monitor settings for both displays stabilized the display pipeline.

My Specs:

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

RAM: 64GB DDR5 @ 6000MHz

Monitors: Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (175Hz) & Acer XG270HU (144Hz)

Hopefully, this saves someone else from tearing their hair out over driver timeouts. Match your cables and match your sync states!

Help (Software) RX 7800 XT driver timeouts - only on idle or while browsing...

Driver just timed out 9 times within 5 minutes. 6 hours of bf6 high settings 1440p ? No problem. Running 1 instagram page and watching twitch? driver timeout or hard freeze the whole computer. Ive had this problem since buying the GPU in november last year. I tried using every driver to date since then excluding the latest one...same result. The place i bought it from even changed it once, its not a hardware issue.. I thought it was the 650W psu but it doesnt make sense to have 0 timeouts while gaming ever in almost 12 months. Hard freeze that requires PC restart only happens if i leave hte pc open and go do something else, it could happen 30 seconds after or after 10 minutes. Driver timeouts (that do not require restart ) only happens while using chrome or any browser.

Idle power draw is around 40, goes to 15-20 ish if I drop the hz of the second monitor to 60.

Help (Software) Amd Drivers help

Hello, im trying to fix my notebook, after ive successfully destroyed it (not literally).

I wanted to play the game Days Gone again after some time, but it wouldnt load, it always crashed before. Ive read i can use the AMD Cleanup function to "clean" my drivers and reinstall them back. I did so, but it did something to my sound, especially my Microphone. I tried talking with friends on discord, but i couldnt talk with them, only heard them. I have a Major IV connected to my notebook via a cable, it doesnt detect the microphone, but it does detect the headphones. When i went to the device manager tab, i have a yellow exclamation mark, which ive read means that the computer is not detecting drivers present, on my Multimedia Controller. I tried to update it, it says windows couldnt find drivers for my device, when i checked properties, i clicked on Driver details, and it says "No Driver files are required or have been loaded for this device."
Ive spend about 3 hours trying to fix this issue by downloading drivers, HP support assistant for detecting the driver. Ive even tried to download specific drivers for this purpose, only to not be able to add them via the "browse my computer for drivers" option.

Im at a loss, please help me. i wanna talk again

CPU: RYZEN 7 7800x3d
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650m
RAM: 32GB DDR5 Crucial ram
PSU: MSI MAG A1000 1000w PSU
Case: Cooler master full size case(unsure of exact)
Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 Pro
GPU Drivers: Most recent AMD
Chipset Drivers: Most recent chipset
Background Applications: DISCORD, CHROME
Description of Original Problem: Adrenalin showing hotspot at 105-112 and OCCT will show all the way up to 116 while gaming. PC shuts off while gaming at 4k but lowering to 2k makes it way less frequent.
Troubleshooting: Playing at lower graphics setting to stop the pc from shutting down. New graphics drivers. After buying the card, I installed in my old pc and had this same issue. I then built a whole new pc and the issues persisted. Is overheating the problem and should I RMA this?

Edit: Theres far too many comments to reply to now lol. Thanks for all the replies and help everybody. I’ve been thinking while at work and I’ve decided to RMA the card rather than repasting it myself. I don’t know if I trust myself with something like that. I’m hoping that I just have an older model, and they can fix mine with whatever they’ve done with the newer cards, and be done with it. In the event it comes back with the same issue, then I will attempt it myself. I wish I would’ve done more research on this specific card before buying it and went with something else. Thanks again!

Help (GPU) 9070xt Hotspot issues

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I’ve had this 9070xt since release, it’s hotspot has been around 40-50 delta over the global gpu temp. I bought it from casekings. I sent it back to them but they reported no issues. I decided to just udervolt it for a few months and that was better but not great so I decided to take matters into my own hands and open it up but as I was about to open it I found two of the corner screws were loose.

I tightened them up and tested it and to my surprise the hotspot dropped to within 30c delta with a heavy undervolt. I bought some thermal grizzly PTM 7950 and applied it but now after a few cycles my hotspot is sitting around the pre tightening. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any solutions?

Help (General) Pc keeps freezing and restarting

So I’ve had my pc for a while now since 2019/2020 can’t remember exact year but this year March my cooler failed and I had to install a new cooler. My pc is also from pc specialist so I ordered a new one from them, after installing the new cooler my pc had been randomly freezing and restarting ever since then, I could be watching a movie and it’ll freeze or be idle and it will freeze. Ive done a couple of troubleshooting things like getting a new ssd, updating my bios (2025) f19 version, installing new chipsets, installing drivers again, stress test and a couple more. This never used to happen and only started I got the new cooler but also not to mention when they (pc specialist) went through my pc and check the logs/wvent viewer there were may problems that lead to numerous problems, they said the next step would be to try a more recent bios update and if that don’t work I’d have to return it for repairing which I can’t really do right now. I’m looking for all help I can get especially since I work from home

There's power, the graphics card lights up, but that's it.

DisplayPort says "no power," and when I boot through the processor, neither GPU-Z, nor HWinfo, nor Adrenaline see the graphics card.

Troubleshooting: I updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I set the startup mode to PCI-E on GEN 4 with AUTO.

I disabled EXPO.

I booted with one stick of RAM.

9070xt Struggling with Rocket League (DX11)

Ever since swapping out my RTX3070 and reinstalling Windows 10, Rocket League cannot maintain a smooth frame cap. It doesn't seem to matter what cap I use, the game feels like I skip frames. It's visually noticeable as well.

CPU: 7800X3D

MOBO: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 (BIOS updated as well as chipset

GPU: 9070xt, Driver: 26.8.1 + previous driver

RAM: DDR5 32GB

Tuning in Adrenaline has zero impact within RL specifically. I could make the game run smoother if I make the game very ugly to play, making all setting performance. This honestly makes the game hard to look at because it makes distant objects blurry.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point. Curious if others have had resolutions or the same issue. I've researched a bit and found that older AMD GPU's didn't like DirectX but supposedly that's not a thing anymore. RL is the only game I'm struggling with this GPU. Aside from Stalker 2 crashing the driver once and a while.

Edit 1: Watching thermals doesn't show any abnormalities. All temps are below 80C at all times.

Edit 2: AMDCleanUp then install 26.6.1 (26.6.2 doesn't install correctly). Same issues after about 5mins of game time. 144fps cap is constant screen tearing (144hz monitor). 240fps now seems more stable than before however this may change after more playtime. 360fps cap still the same issues as before. Starting to seem like a throttling issue as the stuttering happens after a few minutes of playing. It's not instant. By HWMonintor and Adrenaline show no signs that I should be throttling. Also, RL is the only game doing this.

Edit 3: iGPU is disabled in BIOS.

RX 9070 XT – RDR2 severe stuttering + possible lighting artifact in Resident Evil Requiem. GPU issue or game/driver issue?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X (8 Cores / 16 Threads)
Motherboard: ASUS TUFF Gaming A520M
BIOS Version: Latest available BIOS
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3200 (4×8GB)
PSU: Asus Tuff 850 Gold
Operating System: Windows 11
GPU Drivers: Latest AMD Adrenalin driver
Chipset Drivers: Latest AMD chipset drivers
Background Applications: Steam, Discord, AMD Adrenalin / MSI Afterburner + RTSS for monitoring

Description of Original Problem
I’m trying to determine whether I have a hardware problem with my RX 9070 XT or if these issues are caused by specific games, drivers, or my system configuration.
I have two different problems:
1. Severe stuttering and frame drops in Red Dead Redemption 2
RDR2 can run smoothly with high FPS, but I experience frequent microstutters and occasional major frame drops, especially in Saint Denis.
The strange part is that the problem remains even when I lower the graphics settings to minimum. The GPU also has plenty of performance headroom at lower settings, but the stutters still happen.
Things I noticed:
GPU usage is often between 80–100%.
Even when GPU usage is near 100%, sudden frametime spikes can still occur.
Vulkan has fewer/lower major drops than DX12, but Vulkan still has microstuttering.
The issue became much worse when I reached Saint Denis.
During some stutters, the reported VRAM usage appears to drop by around 200 MB or more.
I tested a memory pool/stutter fix mod with different pool sizes, but it did not solve the problem.
Lowering the graphics settings did not remove the stuttering.
I am wondering whether this could be caused by a CPU/engine/streaming stall even though the GPU can often be at 100% utilization.
2. Strange lighting/reflection artifact in Resident Evil Requiem
I also noticed a strange rendering issue on a specific shelving unit/open cabinet in Resident Evil Requiem.
The object is mostly in darkness, but some edges or corners appear to be incorrectly illuminated. The lighting/reflection changes when I move the camera.
It does not look like random pixel corruption. It appears to be related to the 3D object and changes depending on the viewing angle.
I attached an image showing the issue.
This made me concerned that there could be a GPU or VRAM problem, but I am not sure because the effect is tied to a specific object and changes with camera movement.

Troubleshooting
GPU tested with OCCT for 1 hour with no errors
No consistent artifacts in benchmarks
Other games and benchmarks generally run normally
RDR2 tested with Vulkan and DX12
Vulkan performs better regarding major frame drops
Tested RDR2 at minimum and high/maximum settings
Tested different FPS limits
Tested a memory pool/stutter fix mod with different pool sizes
Reset/cleared shader cache
GPU is currently running at stock settings
Tested CPU/GPU temperatures and they appear normal
No frequent crashes or driver timeouts
I previously tested a higher VRAM clock in MSI Afterburner, which caused instability, so I immediately stopped and returned everything to stock. I did not increase voltage. The GPU has been stable at stock settings.

Questions
Could the RDR2 problem be caused by CPU/engine/streaming stalls despite the GPU often being at 100% utilization?
Is the Resident Evil Requiem lighting issue more likely a rendering/lighting artifact or something that could indicate faulty VRAM/GPU hardware?
Does the fact that OCCT ran for 1 hour without errors make a hardware defect unlikely?
Could the combination of Ryzen 7 5700X + 4×8GB DDR4-3200 cause frametime problems in demanding open-world games?
What additional tests would you recommend to rule out a GPU hardware problem?
I would really appreciate feedback from anyone using an RX 9070 XT or similar hardware.

Help (GPU) RX 6700 crashes at default 2619 MHz – stable at 2100 MHz

Hi, I have a Sapphire RX 6700 10GB.

Since I got the card, AMD Adrenalin has always set the default max GPU clock to 2619 MHz @ 1200 mV, with VRAM at 2000 MHz.

The problem is that games crash at 2619 MHz. If I manually limit the max clock to 2100 MHz, everything is completely stable.

I have never overclocked the card. These are the default values shown by Adrenalin.

Why is Adrenalin setting 2619 MHz, and why can't my GPU run at that frequency? Is this normal for an RX 6700, or could there be a hardware/driver issue?

Any ideas?

i tried to uninstal and reiunstall, check drivers etc...
