Resonance I asked y'all for potential interview questions for the developers, so I just wanted to share my interview from Gamescom!

I spoke to Carol-Ann Bañuls, lead game writer, and Valérian Robert, lead level designer, to talk about making Sophia the protagonist, changing the basic Plague Tale formula, designing a different kind of world around her abilities, and how Resonance expands on the mythology!

Since the game was coming out literally a day after my interview, I couldn't ask them too much about story-specific stuff from Resonance, but I think my questions (and their responses) turned out pretty interesting, all things considered~!

Theory My idea for the final A Plague Tale game - and how Amicia's story could finally end Spoiler

TL;DR: Amicia and Sophia find the next Carrier, Eli, who has been living with his older brother Mark after their parents were killed during an outbreak caused by Eli's Macula. Mark dies protecting him, leaving Amicia to become his new Protector. As the three travel together, Eli's condition worsens and the rat plague evolves into something that could consume the world. They eventually discover a way to destroy the Macula permanently, but it comes at the cost of a human life. Everything seems to point toward Amicia, until the game reveals that Sophia has already made a different choice.

I've been thinking about where A Plague Tale could go after Requiem, and if Amicia's story ever gets a proper conclusion, I'd want it to actually end the cycle rather than just introduce another Carrier.

After Requiem, Amicia and Sophia continue searching for the next Carrier. Eventually they find Eli, a young boy who's been living with his older brother Mark.

Their parents were killed during an outbreak caused by Eli's first major Macula manifestation. Mark never blamed him and basically raised him afterwards. He's Eli's older brother, Protector and only family.

When their hiding place is discovered, Mark gets Eli to safety but dies in the process.

Eli is left completely alone, and Amicia takes on the responsibility of protecting him. Naturally, he doesn't just accept her. Mark was the person who raised him, and Amicia can't simply replace that.

The relationship between the three develops gradually. Sophia is able to bring some normality back into Eli's life, while Amicia becomes increasingly protective of him. There are also moments where Amicia catches herself seeing Hugo in Eli, something she eventually has to confront.

Eli has his own demons as well. His parents' deaths were connected to his first Macula manifestation, and he's spent years believing that he was responsible. Mark was the one person who kept him from completely believing that.

As Eli's Macula develops, Sophia's own history starts becoming relevant. She recognizes certain things happening to him that Amicia doesn't, although she doesn't necessarily explain everything she knows.

Then the situation gets out of control.

We've already seen what the Macula can become at its final stage through Hugo. With Eli, the consequences could be even worse. The outbreaks become increasingly severe, the rats begin adapting, and eventually sunlight may no longer be enough to stop them.

The entire world is running out of time.

Eventually, they discover a way to destroy the Macula completely.

Not transfer it, not suppress it but to end it and there's a price. The process requires a human sacrifice, although the exact conditions aren't immediately clear.

Eli naturally assumes he's the one who has to die. Amicia refuses to accept that, and as they investigate further, they discover that the Carrier actually has to survive for the cure to work which obviously leaves Amicia and this is where I think the game could really mess with the player.

Everything would point toward Amicia sacrificing herself. She's the Protector, she's already lost Hugo, and by this point Eli has become someone she would do absolutely anything to save.

I would let the game reinforce that assumption right up until the final sequence.

Maybe Amicia even gets a proper moment with Eli beforehand. She thinks she's saying goodbye. The player thinks they're watching the end of her story.

Then, at the last moment, Sophia reveals that she's already figured out what the sacrifice requires and she has made her decision.

Not because she's suddenly the "chosen one" or because the story conveniently needs her to die. She's simply decided that Amicia has already given enough.

By this point, Eli means far more to Sophia than just another Carrier she's helping protect. Their relationship has developed naturally throughout the journey, and losing him to the Macula would mean watching another child go through the same fate she has spent the entire game trying to prevent.

So Sophia takes Amicia's place.

I wouldn't foreshadow this with obvious conversations about sacrifice or death. If anything, Sophia should appear completely normal right up until the reveal. The little things she does for Eli throughout the game only become meaningful afterwards.

The final scene between the three should be emotional, but restrained. Amicia realizes what's happening and tries to stop Sophia. Eli does too.

Sophia still goes through with it.

The Macula is destroyed, the plague ends, and there is finally no next Carrier.

Amicia survives.

Years later, Eli is grown and the world is recovering. Amicia and Eli visit Sophia's grave, and Eli leaves behind a small keepsake Sophia gave him earlier in the game.

Then they leave and that's it.

If A Plague Tale is going to end with Amicia, I think this would be a fitting way to do it. She doesn't die repeating the same sacrifice she made for Hugo. She survives, raises Eli, and finally gets to see the cycle end.

No more Carriers.

Lmk your thoughts and opinions in the comments.

Resonance Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy — It Just Doesn't Feel Like A Plague Tale Spoiler

I really wanted to love this game. I absolutely loved A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, so I had very high expectations going into Resonance. Unfortunately, this game was a huge disappointment for me.

The biggest problem for me was the repetitive gameplay. There are way too many repetitive puzzles, followed by the same pattern of soldiers attacking you over and over again. After a while, it started feeling like I was doing the same thing repeatedly just to move the story forward. I don't remember Innocence and Requiem feeling this repetitive. Even the combat system didn't feel satisfying.

I also really missed the rats. They were such an important part of what made the first two games unique. The atmosphere, the fear of the rats, and the way the environment interacted with them were a huge part of the identity of A Plague Tale. Without them, the game just didn't feel the same to me.

What I loved about the first two games were the characters Lucas, Roderic, Mélie, Arnaud. Here, all the characters felt weak, I couldn't connect with any of them and honestly couldn't stand most of them. When Leni and Farro die, the game clearly wants you to feel devastated, but I simply didn't care.

The same problem applies to Ariadne. The game clearly expects us to sympathize with her and understand her motivations, but I personally couldn't. Her actions caused destruction and suffering to the citizens, yet the game still seems to push us toward feeling sorry for her. I kept thinking about the consequences of what she had done to innocent people, which made it difficult for me to sympathize with her.

The writing has the same issue with its backstories. Sophia had already experienced Macula herself, and she could have been one of the few people who genuinely understood what Hugo was going through. She could have told him she'd experienced similar visions and helped Amicia understand what was happening. Instead, Resonance gives Sophia this huge, important backstory and then expects us to accept that she never once mentions it in Requiem.

By Chapter 10, I just wanted to get through it as fast as possible. I can't believe the same studio behind the first two games created this. In the end, showing Amicia felt like a cheap attempt to hook players for the next entry, but it really just made me miss Amicia and Lucas.

If there is one positive, it's that the visuals and soundtrack were still decent, but good presentation can't save a hollow story and tedious gameplay.

I know some people are going to love Resonance, and that's completely fine. I'm not saying my opinion is objectively correct. But personally, I can't believe the same studio that made the first two games made something that feels so disconnected from what made those games special.

Resonance (chapter X puzzle spoiler) Anybody else got stuck on this puzzle? Spoiler

I had 0 problem with any other puzzle in the game, but this one I couldn't figure out for good 20 minutes. First I got stuck, because it didn't occur to me to use sphere ability around mirrors (which the game didn't suggest in any way and didn't do once before this one) and then I got stuck at the final part and even when assist/companion spelled out the solution out loud, I could not see the logic behind it for the next 5 minutes of staring at screen. I guess I didn't notice, that 3 of 6 symbols in the book are circles (inner, outer and mid circles), because I first noticed other symbols and presumed all 6 symbols in the book are from the symbols on the wall (bull's head, snake etc.).

Just curious, if I'm that much slow today or if it was badly designed and confusing.

Resonance Resonance is peak graphics, but a piece of sh*t in writing "in my opinion". Here is how Asobo failed Sophia and Leni (With mechanical fixes that could have saved it)

Hey everyone. I actually found out about Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy through a popular Indonesian YouTuber. I was so hyped watching him play because I absolutely love history and daydreaming about these settings. But after some episodes, I realized the writing is a complete mess.

The game tries so hard to push "woman power," but instead, they ended up making the female characters look like the dumbest people alive. Here is my deep breakdown of why the story fails and how better mechanics could have saved it.

  1. The "Wannabe Sparta" Sophia & Cringe Lore

The game sets up a world where almost all the main authority and troop figures are male (Alec, Ezra, Faro), and the leads are female. That’s fine, but the execution is awful. Sophia has this legendary lineage as Alec's daughter and Ezra's student, yet she has zero strategy. Once Faro takes her Minoan book, she becomes completely useless—exactly like when Tony Stark took away Peter Parker's suit.

Instead of a cool plot where Sophia has to race Faro's team by using her memory, wit, and risking traps to show an imperfect but growing character, she just becomes a "Wannabe Sparta." She solo-rushes 90% of the enemies. Even with the Theseus armor, it looks cool in gameplay but feels incredibly cringe in the story. Her whole attitude is just: "I see enemy, I kill, easy." No thinking, no planning.

  1. The "Ice Age Girl" Who Doesn't Know Fire Exists

Sophia is my crush in this game, but the writers made her look so dumb. The game's monsters hate light. Historically, people in that era loved burning things down. Yet, Sophia never once thinks about making a fire torch or using light to fight back. It’s as if she’s an ice age girl who doesn't even know fire exists.

The game completely wasted the mechanics here:

The Light Orb Waste: The orb shines in three colors, but the white light only reflects sunbeams instead of being an independent mechanic. It should have had a battery percentage that requires players to find sunbeams to recharge it.

The Flame Torch & "Sniff" Mechanic: Since the game takes place underground, Sophia 100% deserved a Flame Torch mechanic. When the monster does its "sniffing" animation, it should create an air current/wind. The gameplay should force Sophia to crouch and shield the flame from dimming out. If it dies, you have to scrounge for items to relight it while hiding.

Fire Arrows: Since enemies use bows, Sophia should have been able to scavenge arrows from the ground or dead bodies, combine them with materials, and light them using her torch to create strategic fire arrows.

  1. #JusticeForLeni - The Most Useless Character Ever

Then we have Leni the cutie. She is written so poorly. She claims to be a master smuggler/thief, which should imply agility, high IQ, or quick wit. Instead, she has no brain, moves slow, and gets caught by Faro’s team like a total amateur.

Why is she even there? The game doesn't let us switch to Leni to utilize her small frame to squeeze through tight ruin spaces, solve agility challenges, or pickpocket enemies to steal hard-to-get items. They benched her potential completely.

Conclusion

Asobo Studio spent millions on gorgeous graphics but completely threw away how the daughter of Alec should handle betrayal, trauma, and the teachings of Ezra. They replaced deep psychological survival with mindless solo-rushing. The game is a visual masterpiece, but narrative trash.

What do you guys think, feel free to give your opinion and correct me if im wrong. Im sorry if my words pretty harsh and hurt anyone <3

Resonance A Plague Tale: Resonance — An absolute masterpiece that expands the lore beautifully Spoiler

I just finished A Plague Tale: Resonance, and I absolutely loved it.

While the gameplay style differs from previous entries, it makes complete sense: Sophia is a raider used to fighting and defending herself. Unlike Amicia, who relied more on stealth, combat feels natural for her.

This entry takes a totally different direction by leaning into Greco-Roman mythology. We discover a young Sophia used as a test subject—likely by the Order, given the symbol on the notebook. While the nuns' exact motives remain unclear, we know Sophia is poisoned and drawn to a mysterious island (the very same place where her father later dies).

When Sophia reaches the island, the atmosphere feels enchanting despite her grief. The crystal-clear water, bright blue skies, and glowing fireflies create a fairy-tale world you just want to dive into. Her relationship with Leni—whether friendship or something more—is genuinely refreshing, and the soundtrack sets the tone perfectly.

The dives into the past are spectacular and leave you wanting to learn more about Theseus. But as you progress, this epic adventure slowly turns into absolute horror: hostile soldiers searching for the treasure, increasingly harsh trials, and that agonizing, terrifying monster lurking in the dark.

After Leni’s death, Sophia’s despair is heartbreaking, yet she’s forced to keep moving—driven by Theseus's call and the poison slowly killing her. Meanwhile, Faro’s motivations are grounded and believable. Driven by obsession to succeed where Sophia’s father failed, he fears losing his standing and views his adopted daughter as a threat to his leadership.

Blending the figures of Theseus and Ariadne is a brilliant narrative choice. By the ending, it becomes clear that Ariadne serves as the Protector to Asterion, just like Aelia and Amicia were before her. Asterion is clearly afflicted by a form of the Macula: the chains matching Basilius's, his isolation once people feared him, a Protector as his only anchor, and his destructive powers. Does the Macula mutate or evolve over time?

The Order clearly still holds many secrets, and A Plague Tale has so much more universe left to explore.

Resonance Writing concerns in Resonance

Is anyone else not clicking with the writing of this game? Im really enjoying the wider story and the gameplay in general but I'm really struggling with the banter and "in-between" dialogue.

Theory Are all Macula bearers from noble families? Spoiler

It's not really a super worked and thought through theory, just something I came up with while scrolling through Reddit after finishing the latest game. We know that Hugo and Amicia come from a noble family, as well as Ariadne and Asterion being from a royal family. Unfortunately I do not remember if Baslilius and Aelia came from a noble family, but if not then this theory is pretty much worthless lol. Still I think it would be an interesting touch if only those that came from families that had power would be the Macula's targets.

Resonance What you think of the story? my understanding of the game's story.

Have not finished the game yet but at chapter 12 (right after Faros dies).

From what I gather with story so far:

1. You as child gets injected illegally with substance to trigger visions when your dad dropped you off or found you after losing you?

2. You have visions - your dad and his gang's goal is to defeat whatever is on the island to cure you and/or enticed by the treasures from your vision. I guess they are assuming you are "dying" because of the black vein?

3. Your dad's gang now KNOWS the dangers on the island and repeatedly goes on expeditions to save you, with some (faros/irene) still clinging on that there's some treasure at the end of the road.

4. You are throwing a tantrum because Faros/Dad wouldn't bring a kid/teen to a dangerous island and just lie to them that you don't see visions anymore?

5. Now you are on the island and complaining how you want out of the island and blame Faros for the situation?

6. And the woman you see flashback with, is trying to expose her dad and maybe incite a rebellion and/or fix the impending doom that will befall the island. Maybe more on this in last chapters. But it doesn't seem like the brightest of ideas... plus her dad i guess is dumb too.

I feel there are so many dumb assumptions by chars or plot holes like "no one talked" about the dangers on the island? Like Faros literally mentioned he "seen it all" and seemingly bypassed every door/puzzle that you had to use your orb on EXCEPT the door you had to use the bracer on? I guess you do need to orb for the light weapon but it is just kinda wild.

Any clarifications to my understanding of this?

Fan Art Concept Idea for A Plague Tale 3: Echos

Hear me out people I am a big Plague Tale fan and thought about a concept for the modern teaser at the end of Requiem. It's just the baseline idea but if you like it pls help me so that Asobo will see this one day!!

A Plague Tale: ECHOS

Premise:

  • The Protagonists: You play as Allegra, a resilient young woman in a hyper-modern metropolis, desperately trying to protect her baby brother—the new Carrier of the Prima Macula.
  • The Antagonist: A ruthless, modern pharmaceutical conglomerate (the modern incarnation of the Order) that wants to weaponize the baby’s blood.
  • The Threat (Urbans Swarms & Blackouts): In the modern era, the rats are smarter and more aggressive. They infiltrate subways, sewers, and power grids. They intentionally chew through high-voltage cables, plunging entire skyscrapers, malls, and city districts into instant, terrifying blackouts. When the lights go out, the modern world turns into a pitch-black death trap where only the terrifying sound of millions of claws remains.
  • The Gameplay: Allegra uses modern survival tech (tasers, drones, flashbangs), but when the power grid fails, electronics become useless. She must rely on ancient methods of light and fire to survive.
  1. The Link: Macula Visions

The Prima Macula acts as a dark, transcendental network across time. The baby brother experiences feverish trances where he can see and interact with the past.

  • The Ghost of the Past: Through the baby’s visions, the siblings connect with Amicia de Rune in the 14th century. Amicia is older, scarred, and lonely, spending her life hiding clues and trials for the future Protector.
  • Echo Communication: The baby can speak to Amicia across time. She hears him as a "whisper in the wind" or a vision by her campfire. She comforts him and guides him on how to resist the Macula so he doesn’t suffer Hugo’s tragic fate.
  1. Core Feature: Dual-Timeline Puzzles

This connection is not just narrative—it is a core gameplay mechanic:

  • When Allegra and her brother are trapped by an impassable, centuries-old barrier or ruin in modern-day Europe, the brother enters a trance.
  • The player instantly switches control to Amicia in the 14th century at that exact physical location.
  • You play through Amicia’s timeline to change the environment (e.g., locking a door, leaving a specific tool behind, or carving a hidden symbol into the stone).
  • Switching back to the modern era, the path is now open for Allegra.

The Emotional Core:
Allegra is not alone. Through the ruins and the baby's mind, Amicia acts as a cross-generational mentor. Her message to Allegra is simple but devastating: "I couldn’t save my brother, but I spent my entire life making sure you could save yours."

Resonance I ruined part the experience for myself I fear.

I played the majority of the game thinking from the start that Leni was the traitor. So up until she got her leg snapped I didn’t give a damn how she felt about anything. Which then kinda had me less attached to her by the time she got petrified and we could burn her out of her misery. Overall though the game was phenomenal.

Requiem: Discussion underrated or fairly rated

I think that a plague tale series has got to be one of the most underrated games of all time

1-first of all the game offers a great storytelling experience and one of the most happy endings in the first season and one of the most tragic endings in gaming history

2-the gameplay of this game is not that bad especially in season 2 and its stealth is so well done

that is an opinion I don't see much frequently

Resonance Cutscene at the end of chapter IX is nuts

You stab the guy like 30 times during that fight and then they just sit there and calmly talk, like nothing happened. They don't even breathe heavily. Not to mention they go from being enemies to death, cutting each other with steal, to working together in matter of seconds, without any major reason other than... being tired? Wtf was that :D I know you cannot overthink or sometimes even think in videogames, but this was pretty weird and immersion breaking in a game, that goes for serious and grounded tone (be it with unnatural elements). And there were so many such moments, where the game lost any sense of logic. Like when you spent solving multiple puzzles and opening multiple doors in order to solve your way into ancient "impenetrable" temple, only for enemies (without necessary key) to just appear out of nowhere in the middle of a that place in every other room. Using exit fire staircase, I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying hard to find an excuses to find a dirt on it. I just find some of it really missing any sense in very distracting way. I wonder, if anyone else noticed these "game illogics" as well.

edit: what a pointless post, huh? I got to much free time :)

Just finished the game is it correct, hugo miasma is different to theseus’s brother miasma? But same fate? Both how they got it and how it end.

Does it mean plague tale will have more different spinoff?
