as many of you know, Dustin sadly lost his life to a vicious killer in Sacramento who stabbed him to death as he was trying to exit the scene. His killer, Humberto isador palacios of Sacramento, CA killed Dustin at around 10pm on March 2nd, stabbed his friend and then decided to go home and sleep peacefully. Dustin succumbed to his wounds that very night.
Humberto has no listed mugshot (unsure as to why) and is able to visit his family twice a day for 2 hours. Dustin does not get this privledge because Humberto took it from him. Dustin died scared and alone that night. Nobody covered his bleeding stab wound, instead they stared and recorded him as he died. That is beyond cruel.
If even 5 of us show up, it will show the courts and his mother how loved Dustin is!

Getting asked this more frequently as Bay Area families look at properties in and around Acampo. Figured I'd share what I walk through with buyers who have school-age kids.

Acampo is an unincorporated community in San Joaquin County, which means school district boundaries don't follow a simple city-limit line. Most homes in the Acampo area fall within Lodi Unified School District (LUSD), which is one of the larger districts in the region. Specific school assignments depend on the property address — not all Acampo properties feed to the same school.

A few things worth knowing:

School assignment by address: San Joaquin County has a school choice program that allows open enrollment applications to other schools within the district, but assignment for default school is by address. Buyers should look up the specific schools for any property they're seriously considering.

Drive times: Acampo is rural, and most schools will require a drive rather than a walk or short bus ride. If that's a factor in your day-to-day, it's worth mapping it.

Private options: There are private school options in nearby Lodi and Galt. Worth knowing these exist if the public school assignment isn't a fit.

Charter schools: Lodi Unified has some charter options within the district. Worth checking current availability since these can change.

Acampo is one of those places that gets overlooked because it's not a city, but for buyers who want space, privacy, and still be close to Lodi and Highway 99, it's worth a serious look. That said, rural land purchases here have some specific landmines worth knowing before you're under contract.

The well and water situation is the biggest one

Most Acampo parcels run on private wells, not city water. That means before you buy, you want: a well flow test (how much water does it produce?), a water quality test (what's actually in it?), and some info on the well's age and condition. Skipping this is the most common mistake I see — people assume the well is fine because the tap works. Don't assume.

Septic gets ignored too often

No city sewer = septic system. Get it inspected. Know its size, age, and whether it fits how you plan to use the place. An old or undersized system isn't a dealbreaker, but it should show up in your price negotiation.

Zoning determines what you can actually do

Agricultural and rural zoning is common in Acampo (San Joaquin County). That covers what structures you can build, whether you can keep animals, run a small farm operation, etc. Verify the current designation with the county BEFORE you assume your plan works. Zoning can vary parcel to parcel.

Road access — verify it's legal, not just functional

Some rural parcels in the area have driveways that cross neighboring land without a formally recorded easement. The driveway exists and works, but your legal right to use it isn't in writing. That's a problem. Check access and easements early.

Financing is different for rural and land

Land loans and rural property loans often work differently than standard mortgages — different down payments, different lenders, sometimes different terms entirely. Find a lender who does these before you make an offer, so you're not surprised.

I am a single early/mid 30s guy. My Catholic faith is very important to me and having access to a thriving Catholic Church is important as well. I was offered a job where I will be making 6 figures. Fresno has better Catholic Churches but Merced would save me about an hours drive when going back to visit family. Being in the Central Valley, it feels like we’re either stuck in a car commuting or hiding from the sun once the temps start climbing. I’ve been struggling to find the time for "full" workouts lately, so I’ve switched to the "15-minute rule" just to keep my energy up.

My go-to's lately:

• The "Commuter Stretch": 5-10 mins of mobility work right when I get home to shake off the drive.
• Micro-sets: 15 squats or push-ups whenever I have a gap in the day.
• Local laps: Quick walks at whatever park is closest (Woodward in Fresno, Mooney Grove in Visalia, or just the neighborhood block).

I have BPD,undiagnosed autism and/or C-ptsd (the doctors don’t know which one) and PNES/symptoms of FMD that leave me basically not able to function and living at home with my parents makes it worse. I need intensive treatment and a safe space to recover from it. Currently I am fully dependent on my parents and they can’t really support me. I talked to a social worker on the phone today and they told me I’m eligible for Fresno’s Stars crisis residential treatment program. I looked it up and the only reviews I could find were from staff complaining about bad working conditions and a tendency for management to sweep things under the rug. Has anyone been here that can speak to how they treat patients? I really need treatment but I’m terrified of medical abuse but basically impossible for me to recover at my parents house.

I am hoping someone remembers a restaurant that was operating in the early 1980’s. The restaurant could have been in the Riverside or Los Angeles area.

What I remember is: A historic Victorian mansion in the middle of an orange grove. I don’t believe the orange grove was operating but was mentioned in the history of the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant, each room of the home was a dining room.

I can’t speak much about the menu, but I do know they had a French dip sandwich.
