Hi, Stitchers!
This month’s feature designer is The Cozy DH Stitchery!! We are so excited to bring you this interview and introduce you to Toot & DH. I know these patterns pop up here often and I’m so excited to share this with everyone. The designers have also generously offered a 10% discount with REDDHOT10 for the month!
Who are you?
We are Toot (she/they) and DH (they/them), a queer married couple from Canada who design under The Cozy DH Stitchery! Being the more front-facing of the duo, DH is the one answering the questions.
What’s something people don’t know about you?
Because we're a two-person team, each pattern is fine-tuned with the stitcher in mind.
How did you get started cross stitching?
We both learned to stitch in the 1900s and have circled back to it on and off for most of our lives. We picked it back up in 2023 due to disabilities making other crafts less feasible and we seem to have found our calling!
When and why did you start designing patterns?
Toot was looking for Five Nights at Freddy's patterns and simply couldn't find any good ones. Okay, I said. I guess I'll do it myself. We started with FNAF, Valorant, and Mail Time patterns, with our first original pattern being Crockpot Magic.
Where do you get your inspiration?
We draw heavily on the weird and wonderful world around us. We both have had a long-time love and fascination with folklore, mythology, fairy tales, and urban legends. Toot's college degree had a minor in folklore, and she also draws in a lot of inspiration from horror movies. I have a degree in Celtic Studies, and a special interest in conspiracy theories and ancient aliens.
Describe your designs using only adjectives.
Cute. Weird. Surprising. Comfortable.
What design was your favorite to make?
Our Patreon pattern for August is one that I am particularly proud of - it's called Summer Camp Slasher, and it's an homage to the summer camp horror genre, as well as my own childhood experiences of camp and ghost stories about deranged murderers coming up from the floorboards.
Favorite DMC color?
Mine is DMC 16. I would have said before 704, but I think 16 is my new love. It's just so intensely green. Toot's favourite is DMC 210.
Any advice for new stitchers or designers?
For new stitchers, I say - it's only floss and thread. Don't stress it. If you're starting with DMC, floss is incredibly cheap, don't let one tangle ruin hours of your life. Cut it and move on. My other piece of advice is that nothing is too difficult. Pick a piece you want to stitch and you can learn the skills along the way - you'll be more motivated to stick with it and learn if it's a project you love.
For new designers - think about who you're designing for. Not just in terms of your target audience, but think about the actual experience of stitching. Are there huge blocks of colour that you, personally, wouldn't want to stitch? Is this going to be a weird shape or size to finish? Don't rush it. Do a bit, step away, come back with fresh eyes, repeat.
Where can we find you online?
We are on all the platforms - Etsy, fybe, ko-fi, but the best place to find us is on our site TheCozyDHStitchery.com - BUT! You can also find us at your local LNS. We were a vendor at Needlework Marketplace this past August, and you might be able to snag one of our paper patterns in person or request your LNS reach out to us for an order!

Ok.
This was the first time I ever embroidered on wood.
And compared to fabric.... It was hell.
Then I got used to embroidering with floss.
Then came embellishments. And once again it was hell.
Then I got used to it.
And now once it's finished (I will cover the back once I get the glue) and is looking soooo pretty I am thinking about ordering a second one of those.
P.s. it's a kit by WonderlandCrafts the key is FLW-009

2nd finished piece ever!! Just over 100 hours of work. Super happy with how it turned out. Haven’t given it to the couple yet, so if anyone knows Kevin or Tasha, don’t tell them 🤫

I messed up a couple squares but since it’s symmetrical it doesn’t look off.
I got the pattern from Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4463457181/strawberry-cross-stitch-pattern-pdf-folk?ref=share_ios_native_control

Since September 1st is the official international orange cat day, it seems fitting to share a pattern I finished a few days ago : a very orange cat who doesn't seem to have received the infamous braincell (yet).
The original illustration is from a 19th/20th century manuscript from Ethopia, and the original artist is unknown.

My previous cross stitch still needs backstitch (I'll get there...just needed a break from 18 count navy fabric!), I did this nice simple pattern! Love how the colours pop!

Pattern: Potion Storage
Designed: “The Cross” on Etsy - they are no longer selling on Etsy. I included a picture of their name on the pattern and the last picture is a QR code from their pattern. Mods, please let me know if I broke the rules and I’ll remove what needs to go.
This will be a gift for a friend for Halloween. Her favorite holiday.
Started this at the beginning of June and finally finished it today. Lots of minor modifications (mistakes) and although this pattern was supposed to be pure black work, I decided to give the potion bottles colors.
Instead of framing it I decided to do my very first flat fold and I’m tickled at how well it turned out. I couldn’t find a cord I liked so I dove into my yarn stash and braided a cord for the sides. (thank you 123stitch.com you tube video https://youtu.be/YPcVFehSJqw?is=d7EeO6ohuiCgr3BD

Reposting because I had a typo LOL. Calling myself the "French knot queen" after figuring these out! The pattern originally calls for beads, but I didnt feel like buying those 🤣.

Hi!! This is actually my first time posting on reddit so I'm sorry if I mess something up but I recently designed and cross-stitched these bugs for Guelph Bug Day and they were so much fun! I started doing cross-stitch for the first time earlier this year (Feb) and it's quickly become one of my fav hobbies. It combines my love of pixel art with crafting so it's been really fun
All of the bugs have been stitched on 14ct plastic aida and then cut to size and glued into the frames. They were inspired by Animal Crossing/Stardew Valley :) I had plans to stitch way more but I underestimated the amount of time they take even though they're still pretty fast to stitch (1-2 days)
I hand stained, sanded and put hardware on the wood frames as well.
I'm always looking for suggestions for more bugs so feel free to add your suggestions here or on my Ko-fi. I'll be posting patterns up on my instagram as I design/stitch more (@stitchmole)
I have all the patterns up on my store if anyone would like to stitch their own - I do not use AI for ANY part of my work and never will

Hi all! For a few years now my partner and I have been slowly working our way through the spaceship combat roguelike game FTL, and last week we finished our goal of defeating the game on Hard difficulty with all 28 ships. The hardest one was Engi B, since you only start with one crew member. That crew member was named Scoops on our winning run, and he became something of a meme for the rest of our battles. Every time we saw a Scoops for hire in a shop we hired him.
So I stitched this little badge honoring our beloved Scoops, savior of Universe 0, Jack of all trades, and Generally Good Guy. I think he turned out super cute, and it only took like 3 hours!
Pattern was self-drafted in StitchFiddle using screenshots from the game as reference

Hey everyone! I'm back with Part 3, and the process is moving forward!
Now it's not just the eyes — the nose and more details of his face are finally appearing on the 18 count Aida canvas. It's so exciting to see the progress!
How do you like this timelapse format? Is there anything you think I should change or improve in the next videos? Let me know what you think. ❤️
Pattern details: Custom pattern by Ukrainian designer Alexander Stitch, based on my daughter's drawing.

I went through a lot of personal stuff from start to finish. I am a different person finishing than I was starting.
I had this sampler picked for two years, always planning to do it on linen. I wanted to make sure I was more confident in my abilities before switching from Aida to linen. I’m very proud of what I have achieved.

Just got it back today! I used a local frame shop in East TN and I think they did an amazing job! We used a frame I had thrifted and stripped to look more rustic, and it was about 3/16" off from the finished cross stitch size so they weighted the bottom a bit.

Wolf from Light Unicorn Designs on Etsy. 14-count fabric, 22 colors, finished size is about 18x15 inches. It will be framed and then given to my wolf-loving 14 year old as a gift to decorate their room.
