Social Interaction Talking like you're on game knights is an amazing bit

1.2k Upvotes

Give a chipper cutaway interview for any random play. "Pablo just dropped an arcane signet on turn two, he can already add any color of mana he wants AND accelerate to bigger cards earlier!"

Deploy this one responsibly, it's a fine line between funny and grating

Question Ward cost

Recently my friends agreed there are no take backs, you swing into death touch thats on you. The other night friend tried destroying my commander with ward 3. He cast the spell and couldn't pay the ward cost. Then began the bitching and complaining, he wouldn't have cast it if he had known (I read the card to them before we started) he then changed targets to my mana dork. I told him id let it slide this time but in arena or anywhere else that spell would go right in the trash. He argued on arena it won't even allow him to target something with ward if he cant pay. Is this true? Do you allow target changes for wards that cant be paid?

Deck Showcase Glacial Chasm Feels Almost Like Cheating

I know it's a game changer for a reason, but man its crazy to drop on a table when everyone's gotten these massive creatures out. I've won my last 3 games running [[Hearthhull, the Worldseed]] by being able to bring out [[Glacial Chasm]] on key turns while I'm maybe missing a combo piece and someone has gathered their infinite combats or accrued multiple 20/20 bodies. Getting to The One Ring on turn 4, Glacial Chasm turn 5, and win turn 6 was crazy in a 5-man pod.

My buddy played this card in his [[The Necrobloom]] and I can really only get around it if I have a [[Strip Mine]] or "destroy/exile target permanent" cards which is rare.

I got to drop all 3 game changers the last 3 games. [[The One Ring]] to survive a round, then [[Crop Rotation]] into Glacial Chasm to stave off the 30-odd damage aimed at my face.

My game winning turn was playing [[Tannuk, Memorial Ensign]] and [[Exploration]] while I had [[Azusa, Lost but Seeking]] and [[Crucible of Worlds]] and managed to station Hearthhull to 8. The fetchland I had effectively dealt 4 damage being landfall, hearthhull, and landfall off the land fetched. I had 5 land drops from 1 for turn, 2 from Azusa, 1 from Exploration, and 1 from Hearthhull. 20 damage to the table cleared out everyones remaining life totals. I had my [[Squandard Resources]] countered in an earlier turn and [[Sylvan Safekeeper]] countered on the turn i went for game. I also got wheeled out of having [[Famished Worldsire]] at the start of my turn after having played [[Awaken the Woods]] the previous turn.

Obviously life loss gets around it, and that's something I try to use against my friends Necrobloom deck. But after losing every game with Hearthhull (understandably being the target once its stationed 8) to winning the last 4 games with it in a row after adding The One Ring and Glacial Chasm as my game changers instead of [[Jeska's Will]]. I ended up putting Jeska's Will back in and only use the deck at B4 tables anymore. Also added proxies of the OG duals which was neat but didnt really serve a purpose (yet) other than being fetchable targets.

Hearthhull, the Worldseed

[[Toph, Earthbending Master]] will get replaced with [[Toph, Hardheaded Teacher]] eventually. I ordered a [[Rain of Filth]] but not sure if I'll slot it in. The deck originally started out as a B3 all EoE and Unfinity themed deck with other spaceships and random landfall effects.. but after learning about Squandered Resources, Sylvan Safekeeper, Constant Mists, and the power of the One Ring and Glacial Chasm, its a powerhouse now.

Discussion What sleeper cards have been fun for you lately?

I really like it when these threads come up and I haven't seen one in a while, so I figure I'll be the one to start.

Basically, what underplayed or unknown cards have been impressing you lately? They can be new or old, just things that people may not be aware of.

(This is mostly for B2 and B3)

1) [[Necklace of Girion]] it's only in Hobbit collector packs I believe, until that co-op thing comes out later, but holy moly what a dumb card. Play anything and get a counter in monoG is just silly, and it taps for mana.

2) [[Tenuous Truce]] this is a fun one where you basically bond yourself to an opponent, as you both draw a card at their end step as long as neither one of you attacks the other. I have never had the opponent attack me on their first turn with it.

Question If you could fix a card, which card would you choose and how would you fix it?

Yeah, pretty much the title. It doesn’t matter if it’s old or new, for 2026 power level standards, some cards just don’t quite work. if you could, which card would you change and how? (This can be for either powering up an underpowered card or the other way around).

Discussion I put all 10 Gandalfs in one Bracket 3 Wizard spellslinger deck

I wanted [[Gandalf, Party Guest]] to feel like an actual Wizard party, so I built around legendary Wizards and included all 10 Jeskai-legal versions of Gandalf. It’s a Bracket 3 spellslinger deck with zero Game Changers that builds up its Wizard count, cheats out increasingly ridiculous instants and sorceries, and finishes through explosive combat turns.

I leaned into flavor without wanting the deck to feel weak or unfocused. I’d love to hear what everyone thinks and what spell you would be most excited to cast for free with Gandalf.

Discussion I love Landfall, but I hate that so many Omnath decks feel like the deck is just waiting for Omnath to come back (my pod believes that every Omnath is Kill on Sight)

I want to build a Landfall/Lands Matter EDH deck, but I have one big problem with the all the Omnath's.

The deck feels incredible when Omnath is on the battlefield, but kind of falls apart when he isn't. If he gets removed a couple times, I don't want the deck to suddenly feel like it's doing nothing.

I'd rather have the lands themselves be the engine, with the commander being one piece of the overall strategy rather than the thing holding the entire deck together.

OR a lands deck where the commander isn't Killed On Sight (like all the Omnath bros)

OR a commander that protects itself (and that includes, to some extent, both Omnath's that have blue because counter spell protection is real).

I'm open to basically anything at this point.

Omnath, Locus of Rage? Omnath, Locus of the Roil? Some weird commander that doesn't immediately scream "Landfall"?

A 99 that's redundant enough that losing the commander barely matters (I'm looking at you Vial/Thras)?

But at the same time, I want to stay true to the LANDS theme.

I'm even willing to go outside the traditional Landfall archetype if it makes the deck more resilient.

What commanders/builds would you look at?

And more importantly, how would you build a Lands Matter or Landfall deck so that it doesn't completely fizzle when the commander gets removed?

Bonus points for commanders that make you think, "Wait... THAT works with lands?"

EDIT: I should have clarified my play group: Bracket 3 is the ceiling for my group. Again, they target Omnath Rage so I cant generate tokens and Omnath Roil so I can't draw cards.

Social Interaction Won one of my best games, but it felt hollow afterwards

This isn't exactly a rant, but I've been thinking about this game and its aftermath since yesterday and I still don't quite know how to feel about it.

I was playing online in a bracket 3 room, four people at the table and strong decks all around. Premium and free interaction, staples, game changers, game threatening to end turn 6 and 7, the works. Great, close game up to that point.

My turn comes around, I am at 6 life points and I am dead to a stiff breeze so I need to play to every out I could have. I have no graveyard, barely any hand, everytime I cast a spell I lose life to [[Mastermind Plum]], the landfall player got [[Glacial Chasm]] out and at that point I have only one card in my deck that could go through it.

I play it out and manage to pull it off. Get lifegain, mana production, card draw online. I run no infinites, and besides I have to get through the Chasm, so I have to dig through my deck one card at a time in order to find what I need. It felt like riding the lightning, but it took 30 minutes.

From my perspective it was amazing, one of the best comebacks I have ever pulled off, but as the turn dragged on I felt the other players' dissatisfaction grow and by the end of the turn, when I showed the actual win, they just logged out of the room.

Of course you don't expect people to cheer you on cartoonishly when you beat them against the odds, and it was their decision to not concede and look through every trigger and action (I agree with doing so), but after playing some of the best magic I have played in a while I feel somewhat guilty for doing so.

I don't usually take so long to perform my pop-off turns, like five minutes, but in this particular case I had to go through every action because I intentionally built this deck without infinite loops and I am starting to think that doing so made me somewhat less pleasant as a podmate than actually having stronger / simpler combos would make me.

I want to be a person people enjoy playing against, and this whole thing has been sitting heavy with me for the last day.

What is your experience with being in a similar position, or being on the other side of it? Did it change your approach to deck building, or whether you would consider conceding rather than forcing the table to sit through your non-deterministic solitaire turn?

Discussion How do you actually win with a higher powered Reanimator deck?

I've recently started to find some interest in reanimator decks, and I'm thinking of using the Esper color pairing to make my deck. White and black lets me recur things and blue gives me some protection and draw. I think this color pairing gives me the best options.

Im been theory crafting for a little while now but I don't really understand how reanimator decks really win?

Do I just beat the hell out of my opponents with the big creatures I reanimate?

should I be using an infinite combo?

I can't seem to find how I can win with a reanimator deck and I'd like to figure it out before I start heavily investing my time and money into one.

If you play a reanimtor deck how do you win? What does winning games look like for you?

Here's a 99 card list of what I put together so far: https://archidekt.com/decks/25948997/esper_reanimtor

If you have recommendations It's much appreciated if you share them!

Question How do you make a powerful deck without it becoming lame?

I've got this issue where I find that any time one of my decks starts performing really well, I get incredibly bored of it. My pod mostly plays in mid to upper level bracket 3, and sometimes one of the decks I'll put together will go off. But then it always devolves into either taking endless solitaire turns, taxing the hell out of people, or just picking one person and suddenly they're dead.

I find more interactive games to be a lot more fun, so I don't really know how to make any commander better without making it unfun for myself or other people. Just for an example, I think the lamest powerful decks are +1/+1 counter decks. Tell me how many +1/+1 decks you've seen that are actually interesting to play again? "I play [[hardened scales]], [[branching evolution]], and more simic slop." It's the same deck every time. Same thing with Landfall and Impact Tremors.

The issue is that I'll try to build around interesting concepts, just to end up extremely underpowered at the table. I built a deck around Helix Pinnacle, cause it's a funny card, that deck has never won a game. Same thing for more niche commanders like [[Saint Traft and Rem Karolus]] or [[Insperia the Inscrutable]]. I can make the decks stronger by including hundred dollar cards or giving them generic value pieces, but that isn't interesting. You know?

Probably just a deck building skill issue, but I wanted to hear other people's input. How do you make a deck that can hang in upper level bracket without it becoming lame win after lame win.

Deck Showcase Golbez, Crystal Collector: Launching Nukes from the Yard

Heya everyone,

Wanted to share a buddy's [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] deck:

https://easygoinggaming.com/commander/how-to-build-a-golbez-crystal-collector-deck-final-fantasy-mtg/

Golbez is a 1/4 Human Wizard for Black and Blue that cares about collecting artifacts and using them to fuel graveyard-based war crimes. He's got two abilities:

  • Whenever an artifact you control enters, surveil 1. This doesn't care if the artifact is a token or not, gives you great card selection, and helps fuel his second ability.
  • At the beginning of your end step, if you control 4 or more artifacts, return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand. Then if you control 8 or more artifacts, each opponent loses life equal to that card's power.

One of the biggest a-ha moments when putting this deck together was the realization that creatures with power equal to * (star) - based on some other condition - retain that power even in the graveyard. For example, [[Consuming Aberration]] - which has power equal to the number of cards in your opponent's graveyards; and [[Master of Etherium]] which has power equal to the number of artifacts you control.

The other nice synergy with the deck is cycling creatures with big power - think [[Drownyard Lurker]] or [[Marauding Brinefang]]. While you're in that Golbez mid-game of between 4 and 8 artifacts, you can keep getting these creatures back on end step to re-cycle them for continuous value. Plus, once you have 8 artifacts, they burn for their power too!

Playing against this deck does feel a bit like playing Starcraft 1 when someone launches a nuke at you. Now you know it's coming, you have a brief amount of time to do something about it, and if you can't - boom!

In some cases, Golbez can wipe out your whole life total with 1 trigger.

Being that Golbez only has a mana value of 2, plus the artifacts-and-graveyard synergies, gives you plenty of cards to choose from when customizing the deck. You can play discard strategies, reanimator, when-cards-leave-your-graveyard effects, and more.

Any Final Fantasy fans out there try this guy out? What are your pet cards in the deck?

Discussion EDHRec, Seeing More Than the Top Few Cards in a Category?

I love going to EDHRec when I'm trying to decide on inclusions for my new decks. However, I'd like to see MORE cards than the roughly 30 or so the website shares from each category.

Usually I will go up top to the "decks" tab and individually click on decks that have been submitted. This is fine and all but requires looking through entire decklists separately.

Is there a way to "expand" or see beyone the ~30 so top rated cards in each EDHRec category?

Discussion Looking for EDH youtube recommendations

Hi all, i would consider myself still new to magic (about 3 months). I play with a pod of buddies that all started around the same time as me and id like to work on visualizing interactions to speed up my play. Still being a little fresh I’ve been trying to watch commander games on youtube. Tolarian community college was the first one recommended to me and that I’ve started to watch consistently but I was wondering what some of the EDH community would recommend or channels they’ve grown to love. Would prefer some more that are beginner friendly but any recommendations are helpful! Thank you!

Question Suggestions for non-combo control commanders?

I've been playing commander for a little over a year now, and I've been having a really good time at my LGS. One of my favorite decks that I've built is [[Eluge]], basic mono-blue control/card-draw with my wincon being infinite extra turns usually around turn 7-9. I have a small problem with the deck, though... I feel like I see the same cards every time I play it.

To get to the point, I'm a control player at heart and really like the general gameplay style of Eluge, controlling opponents board states without completely shutting them down and then replenishing my hand with big draw spells, but I am slightly dissatisfied with the way that the deck closes out games, because it feels too samey every time, just [[isochron scepter]] imprint [[narset's reversal]], cast [[time warp]].

To amend this, I wanted to see if anyone could recommend me a commander that I could build that has a similar kind of gameplan, but with more variable board states/ways to win. No infinite combos, just strong synergy/value engines that I can use to whittle opponents down by out-pacing them in terms of card/resource advantage. I just want a little more skill expression.

Edit: To be clear, My Eluge deck is still my favorite deck. I'm not dissatisfied with it, and I don't necessarily want to change it (unless someone has a really interesting suggestion for a secondary wincon I could slot in without disrupting my current gameplan too much). I am just shopping around for suggestions because I thought it would be fun to have a commander deck that does something similar to Eluge with more variable endboards.

Discussion Thoughts on Cascade/Discover decks in B2-3?

Both mechanics are big and splashy and require ALOT of mana. That screams "peak B2-3" to me. But onnthe other hand they tend to get outta hand real fast and have some of the longest and uninteractive turns, rivaling landfall for being boring and solitaire.

So what are your thoughts? Are they appropriate for B2-3 or no?

Edit: i am asking mostly because every time I have seen Cascade or Discover decks in B2-3 they cause endless groans and are often hated for taking 20 minutes with their turn because kf the endless cascading I to more cascading into more cascading I to more discovering.

Question Looking for a Spellslinger/Storm Commander with a decent creature count

I want to build a Spellslinger/Storm deck and I'm looking for some suggestions. I'm trying to step outside of my comfort zone a bit because I normally play pretty high creature-count decks.

A lot of traditional Storm decks I've looked at run a small creature count. It just doesn't feel like something I'd enjoy playing. I'm trying to find a good middle ground where I can play around with spellslinger/storm mechanics while still having a solid creature presence.

The two I'm mainly considering right now are [[Storm, Force of Nature]] and [[Narset, Enlightened Exile]], but I'm not completely sold on either of them.

Basically, I'm looking for something that can sling a lot of spells and take advantage of storm-like mechanics without cutting the creature count down to almost nothing.

Any commanders or decks you guys would recommend that fit that kind of playstyle?

Discussion Playing Magic Part-Time and Brackets (Long)

Since brackets have been in beta, I’ve recorded a LARGE number of games. I don’t have every bit of pod matchup but I’ve tallied most of my pod’s games over the last year as well as general composition and have a crazy number of games. Embarrassingly large — I shouldn’t be outing myself.

Last year I played 658 games of commander and this year I’ve played about 120 games (rough estimate — I lost access to my spreadsheet). My number last year is majorly because at the time I worked for myself, was single, and had nights off and would go to different LGS’s every night or every other night when I want engaging in other hobbies — in total, I spent around 20 hours a week playing commander. I no-life’d a card game and became obsessive about playing catchup after an 11 year hiatus. Oops.

This year I’ve cut back. I no longer work for myself (not great), I started dating again (also not great), and I’ve just put time into my other hobbies more and other parts of my life. We should all touch grass from time-to-time.

EVEN STILL, I feel like I play an irregular amount of commander and when brackets were first announced I had my suspicions of the result it would have on the ecology of the casual side of the format. I felt like with MLD being moved into an exclusive high-power facet of the format, green cards majorly being untouched as game changers, and bracket 4 being majorly unrefined between its top and bottom ends that it would allow players to become more greedy and things that felt mean before would condition players to feel like they would subsequently feel more mean. And for the most part, all of these have been true. Maybe it’s confirmation bias but I’ll talk about it anyway.

Players are running less removal (from my anecdotal experience), 4 and 5 color decks are much more popular (also due in part to 4+ color identity legendaries being printed), and my personal records show that, archetypally, almost nobody plays control decks. Control wasn’t even popular when I got back into the game as far as commander goes but it is SCARCE. Even as far as talking to players about interaction, it’s not uncommon to hear things like “I have 2 pieces of targeted removal” or “I have one board wipe.”

People are just not equipped to deal with threats and therefore threat assessment matters even less until a ubiquitous threat announces itself — ergo; outside of outright taking someone out of the game, threat assessment is for people who are losing. I’m not advocating for that being the case but describing the casual mentality I’ve seen and why people lose ands why this expectation makes decks that aren’t “fair Magic” seem inappropriate for casual pods.

For this reason, I have had A LOT of success with combo decks. Not even combo decks but any deck that can end the game in a combo, it almost always goes uncontested. Not because combos decks are inherently better but when the brackets provide a safety in their language, people feel less compelled to play outs. Instead, the mentality is ‘against midrange decks I’ll win by just going bigger,’ and although that’s valid and is kind of the way green decks win by ethos, it’s an extremely limited scope to approach the format and is often ill-fitted for a number of decks to win concerning pod composition or turn order.

The other things brackets haven’t done a great job of, aside from giving an official capacity to make casual players feel safe within their unbalanced and irresponsible deck-building (this is fine if that’s what you sign up for, just adjust your expectations with strangers), is that it approaches turbo decks poorly in bracket 3 since the ethos of turbo decks doesn’t nearly fit into the qualifiers of bracket 3.

Turbo decks, in their function, sacrifice interaction, recursion, and utility in order to get their gameplay online ASAP. Although this is typically thought of as winning the game through a combo, it can a prison strategy (especially in bracket 4), elf ball, ramping into Ureni or Etali, and yes, combos as well.

For any Yu-Gi-Oh! players out there, this would be like if I’m playing Branded with a Last Warrior package to reliably turn 1 Last Warrior from Another Planet with a Mirrorjade and whatever else on board that I protect with Branded Opening. If the deck doesn’t do this turn 1, the premise of using slots to tech in Zombyra and Maryokutai with King of the Swamp are extremely deck. It can be fragile but that’s what turbo decks do, even in cEDH. They either go for the win and try to play through interaction or they bust and more than likely shuffle up for the next game. This is true including even with Rog-Si which is objectively like a top 3 tEDH deck.

So what’s the point of pointing my observations out over literally hundreds of games since brackets have been implemented? That players need to go beyond brackets to discuss rule zero. That seems so obvious but I think most pods just don’t. And that’s not a bad thing. If you are malleable and pretty accepting of things people play and feel like if something is wrong and you can discuss it after the fact without feeling that one bad game is a huge risk to your enjoyment for the night then sure, but if you are a person who is disposed to singular games being hugely important to you and tailoring your experience, you need to not only understand the ecology of commander as it is now BECAUSE of the bracket system but also what conversations you need to have and where you need to align your expectations given the understanding of how deck building has malformed in response to the lowest common denominator of player comforts in any given pod.

We should all try to be accommodating but that mentality needs to be shared with the entire table. If you have an intolerance to something else a player is doing you should firstly discuss it but secondly create a gamelan on how both players can be happy. This can be conceding that one game one player is allowed to play a thing then switch off, it can be you playing in the pod for a game or two before switching tables with somebody else (this isn’t difficult especially if people at LGSs are friends and know people), etc. You can disagree with the experience you want while still being agreeable. Not every instance of something you dislike has to be a Reddit post even if we all do have a guilty pleasure in reading commander IRL stories.

I’m not even going to touch on how terribly bracket 4 is at achieving what it’s meant to do because B4 is functionally useless unless you have 4 people who all have the exact same expectations. The highs and lows of the bracket and how it demarcates itself from bracket 3 leaves a weird space for certain decks to exist within the lower spaces of bracket 4 while being out of the realm of breaker 3. That deserves an entire conversation of its own but the short of it is that breaker 4 doesn’t function to facilitate deck diversity or “high power” commander since it is the only bracket where the very top and low end of decks can’t compete with each other in a healthy way.

Anyway, making a long post longer, what do you guys think of brackets? Do you still have rule zero discussion beyond brackets, do you find them more or less useful, what changes would you make, and how has commander changed since implementing them?

Thanks!

Discussion I yearn for a new control commander

Upvotes

I am a control player for both the love of the game and the necessity of it:

1) my favorite games are back and forths, holding people in check, always having a chance, until someone (ideally me if I played well) surges across the finish line to steal a win

2) my least favorite games are low interaction arms races to see who can top deck their win cons the fastest

3) the rest of my pod doesn't play too much removal, so I have to if I want 1 and 2 to be true!

But recently I've realized, in addition to the above points, I cannot stand facing all-or-nothing / kill on sight commanders. I HATE games where if you don't touch [[Y'shtola]] as soon as possible the card advantage snowballs, where if you don't somehow stop [[Kefka]] from doing that gross etb/attack trigger noone else gets to play, where if you don't kill [[Korvold]] before he draws 42 cards and curbstomps you noone else has a chance. I find these commanders irrationally frustrating to play against and find myself irrationally annoyed at how everything you want to do in the game is printed on the card.

So with the preamble out of the way, any removal heavy control decks that punish commander-centric gameplans? I have an [[Alela]] and [[Elminster]] list I already enjoy and I've considered going for a [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] or a [[Vren, the Relentless]] build but want to hear community input on what might be a fun way to shut down these particular decks so the rest of us can play magic too

Discussion Anyone running Pull from Eternity? What are the best situations you've encountered where it was surprisingly useful?

I'm not talking about the standard use case of getting a creature back after it got Path'd. I'm talking removing an imprinted card, something blinked until the end of turn, or a Prosper'd spell.

[[Pull from Eternity]] is such a unique niche effect that I keep finding new uses for.

Discussion Do you consider Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite a stax piece ?

Hey guys,

I am playing [[Elesh Norn,Grand Cenobite]] in my Dihada Reanimator Deck. Last game night i reanimated her by like turn 6 or 7. Fortunately she nearly wiped the whole board for me and one opponent wasn‘t even able to cast his commander anymore. To defend myself, she only got the protection from Dihada for one turn cycle. The rest of the game i had no other way to keep her safe.
Managed to win the game a few turns later through an overwhemling boardstate.

What do you think? Is her -2 / -2 on opponents creatures a stax element?
Personally I would call it soft stax if any.

Discussion I made a tool that finds cheaper lands for your commander deck without hurting casting reliability

Hello everyone,

I’m Mark. I built a tool to spend less money on lands for commander decks without sacrificing casting reliability.

Link: https://confluencemtg.com

You paste in a decklist, it runs thousands of simulated games, and you get a casting reliability (what I call “castability”) percentage for your deck now versus what it'd be after the recommended changes, which can include both adding and swapping lands. It also tells you how much you'd save based on the price difference between the lands removed and added. A typical result raises castability and saves money.

The part I don't think other tools do is account for your card draw, ramp, and other things that affect your land drops and spell casting. It matches oracle text to categorize each spell, and you can recategorize by hand if it gets something wrong.

To get into the weeds, it scores a simulated game by how much mana the deck spent by the end of turn 8, then compares that score against the same deck with one land swapped for another. That isn't a perfect measure. It's pretty useless for cEDH, since 8 turns is more than games go at that power level. But for most casual decks (bracket 3/4 and below) it does the trick.

I built this for my own obsessive need to optimize, and because I didn't want to buy expensive lands for multiple decks. But I'm one person, and I'm positive there are still problems with it. I'd LOVE feedback, positive or negative. Bugs, bad recommendations, whatever. Tell me the UI sucks, I don't care. If you have ideas for improvements too. Comments here or the feedback button on the site both work.

It’s completely free. You don't need an account to use it.

TL;DR I made a free tool that improves your commander deck's land base and saves you money. Please give me your feedback!

Question Creating a true lock with stax

I've started getting into playing stax and I honestly like the anti combo play style. I have Vivi and another player uses Prismari in my playgroup and nothing is more satisfying than dropping a [[Dryad Militant]].

However I have only been able to slow the game rather then present a lock to win the game. I've won some (I run [[Black Panther Wakandan King]] as my stax general so I can actually kill people) but I'm looking to really end the game via stax rather than have it just be a slow stare as people give up until I find a combo of my own. Anyone know of where I can find resources on this? Or in general know how to do it with examples? Is that even truly a thing? Google bore little fruit and a lot of the threads on it are old.

Greatly appreciated!

Also, I know people hate stax. The only kind of hate the world needs is hatebears.

Also also, I saw a thread earlier about hate bears vs stax and it made me smile. All for it!

I want the deck to play mostly on other people's turn with instant interaction or flashing creatures in for value with Alela, and then winning with either:

  1. Some form of infinite fairy combo with [[Glen Elendra Archmage]] + [[Archmage of Echoes]] + [[Cloudstone Curio]] + X where X is under 2 mana for me to cast
  2. Fairy token generation from [[Alela, Cunning Conqueror]] into an anthem like [[Banner of Kinship]]

Discussion Partner commanders

Newer player here. I’ve just gotten into the idea of experimenting with some decks that use partner commanders. I really want to run a deck with some uncommon / lesser used or seen partners.

I’ve already brewed up a [[Akiri, Line-Slinger]] deck with [[Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder]] as a partner. Essentially Bruse gives Akiri double strike & lifelink and Akiri plays as an equipment / artifact voltron.

I’m pretty happy with this pairing as there are only 123 decks on edhrec that use this commander pairing. Have any of you found any other interesting commander partnering that don’t see much play together? I don’t want the same usual pairings that others run, looking for something fun and unique that you’ve found
