Skill updates

  • Mirage Cloak: Adjust additional block chance to 4..10 (so that Earth investment is required) and fixed a bug where damage from enchantment removal was getting improperly multiplied.
  • Focused Shot: Removed errant cast time.
  • Soul Twisting (PvP): Fix typos in in-game description.
  • Animate Flesh Golem: Pull the (somehow) living Vabbian peasant from the corpse pool.
  • Symbols of Inspiration: Reduce recharge from 15 to 10 and increase duration from 1..31 to 6..40. (This change was in the original update notes, but the game data wasn't properly updated.)
  • Mistrust: Fix bug where original target was being treated as an AoE target.
  • Overload: Fix bug where original target was being treated as an AoE target.

Spear of lightning bugged

Post image
42 Upvotes

The description states that this attack now hits all foes between you and your target.
The damage seems to be the basic spear damage, the additional from the skill is not applied. Anthem of flame only applies on last target hit. The foes inbetween are never critically hit.

Unlike barrage, no extra adrenaline is generated per target it.

Devil's Advocate

I've seen a ton of posts about the new update and the selling of the infinite Ident/salvage kits being bad along with the reforged coin.

I don't get it. Prior to this update I saw tons of people literally say how they'd pay for infinite lots cause it's just a straight QoL not having to worry about the kits breaking.

I hear a bunch of people raising the concern of " it ruins the economy." So what? The economy has been in outright shambles with the amount of bot farming that takes place. The game isn't about the economy, it's about running around with friends or randos, smashing monsters, saving the world, and the biggest thing I think people forget, having fun.

Not everyone can afford the time or in game money to get the consets consistently themselves. They take a lot of work to get yourself. Making them more available only helps players. If you don't want to make the game easier, don't use them. But stop hating on people that enjoy the easier time.

Now the most controversy I've seen surrounding this is Pre-Searing.

I see so many people complaining about Pre being this time capsule that needs to be absolutely preserved. That no changes should happen to it and that making it easier in any way is an insult and that once again, they ruin "The Economy"

People complain about charr kits being made irrelevant. That isn't that case either. Charr kits still are a challenge to get and still remain for anyone who doesn't want to get the new salvage/Ident kits. But now players who either couldn't get one themselves due to lack of time or skill can now enjoy the benefits of runes without having to worry about collecting a ton of play in pre.

And all I can think is, "When did preserving the Capitalistic economy in pre become more important than people being able to have fun? Maybe actually be able to get a title they may have thought was out of reach of their abilities or time?"

What part of other people running around in their own instances; away from other players, pisses people off so much?

"Oh they can get things easier than I had them!"

"Oh, those consets cost a ton/require a ton of work so it invalidates the work I put in!"

"Oh, I'm losing money cause I can't sell as many consets cause people can get them for free!"

So. Fucking. What??

If your enjoyment of the game comes from policing other players, trying to gatekeep high end things, or trying to force things to stay the same for the sake of a profit, you really need to rethink your ideals. If you don't like things being easier, don't use the accessibility items provided.

Fashion Wars - Round 2!

Hey folks,

The next round of fashion wars is live on the GWR website. This time its autumn themed!

This time around, there won't be a top 3 featured, to help with bias. Votes will also be hidden until the round ends and the winner is revealed, and for your vote to count, you have to be a member of the GWR discord as well. The victor will receive a mystery prize, but I promise you, its good!

Is this a 'ploy' to get more people involved with our community? Of course! Because we believe that getting more like-minded individuals who are able to play together is a good thing, so much so that many in the leadership are donating high-value items and materials to encourage people to participate.

I look forward to meeting you in the discord, and seeing your submission on the site!

What is the most difficult/dangerous thing you've completed on your Dhuum character?

What is the hardest or most dangerous thing you've done on your Dhuum character?

For me. I think it's Hell's Precipice HM (no cons) so far.

That, or vanquishing some of the areas in Factions....

Hi! I’m looking to pick up the game again. How are the professions looking? Is warrior on par with Dervish again? Are paragons more playable?

Curious about the speedclear people that have a long s(h)it on the toilet and doing some nice content.

Reintroduce everlasting henchmen tonics

Given whatever contest miniatures were reintroduced previously, why not reintroducing these consumables?

Make them untradable if you wish, most of them are on banned accounts anyways...

Legionnaire Summoning Crystal Stacked

So I spent my proofs on a summoning crystal with the intention of dropping it into storage for another character. I already had one and now they're stacked.

How do I split the stack to put one in storage?

Pre/LDoA Pre-Searing Ascalon was basically my "cozy" game of choice, before cozy games were even a thing

I had one of them lightning bolt realization moments scrolling through some old screenshots of OG GW. Holyyy, was everything so much more low res back in the day (lol) but that’s not the point. Point being I still consider it weird how GW was pretty much the only MMO where a community kinda coalesced around the starting zone. And I still hold firm the belief Pre Searing was the perfect starting bubble and perfect starting zone of any MMO ever.

But also, it was my cozy game long before cozy games existed as a label. And it’s label I both despise because of how commercialized it has become but also… (not to put my money where my mouth is) also a genre I’m playing more as I get older. Admittedly because my girlfriend is into these games. I mean the likes of Palia, or the real one we’re interested in playing come launch (Loftia, apparently this autumn if the devs are to believed), but for entirely different reasons from (heavy customization, low stakes no combat etc.) than the spontaneous kind of cozy that Pre Searing kind of naturally evoked. It was also probably the best tutorial zone overall, of its kind, on release.

Of course I would never have described it as ā€œcozyā€ at the time of course but looking back, it was just that, a condensed cozy bubble in game that’s not otherwise cozy by any means. That perpetualy golden afternoon light over the green hills, the MUSIC OH GOD THAT MUSIC sweet gentle music, and the total absence of any actual threat. Only glimmers… small glimmers of it. It was the perfect sanctuary before the Searing fucks everything up and that contrast is what makes it so good, a kind of escapism and not wanting to move on and the game actually letting you do that if you so want. Something about knowing that catastrophe was coming just made that peacefulness feel so good.Ā

You were wandering about in a doomed paradise (I think that’s a good way to describe it?) and it was gorgeous man…

If I had to pinpoint, I’d say that was probably my first cozy zone in all of MMOs. Before WoW even (yes) and it’s on par only with The Shire in LOTRO, except with more stuff to do.I think it’s beautiful all this was basically born from one dude’s obsession back in the day of playing in this starter zone ;)

Waxing all nostalgic here because I finally got into Reforged after convincing basically 0 of my friends to come along. Eh, whaddya gonna do. That’s another point however (how good this game is to play solo I mean) so imma stop here. This is kind of a love letter to the starter zone of this map.

PS I’ll admit I never had a character who did not, at some point, leave pre Searing but after draining it dry this time coming back into the game… I’m sorely tempted to make a perma Pre Searing one and see how long I can take it before the madness wears off.

Hide Player Names and Keyboard Camera Controls?

Hey everyone! Playing GW again for the first time since high-school. I’m having a great time so far and I have a couple of questions.

Is there anyway to hide the player names in town? I’d prefer to toggle them on and off when needed. The screen can be pretty cluttered with all the names on screen.

Is there anyway to bind camera movement and zoom to keyboard keys? Playing this game with a trackpad is doable but really cumbersome at times. Binding the camera to the arrow keys and shift + and - for zoom would be what I’m hoping for.

Thanks! Hope to see you all in Tyria.

What are things worth?

I just came back after 20 years and I am wondering, how do I know what things are worth?

For example I have like 50 minipets.

But also if a weapon drops, how do I determine the worth?

Making consets and pcons more accessible was necessary. Not like this, tho.

Now that things (and people) have calmed down a bit after the introduction of the Reforged Coin, I'd like to take a moment and share my thoughts.

First off, I agree with what many here said in these past few days: Consets and pcons are insanely powerful, and they probably shouldn't have ever been introduced at all. They've been in the game for many years now, people got used to them, so it would probably be much worse to just remove them at this point.

Under that premise, I think making these things a lot more accessible is not just not a bad thing, it was a necessary and long overdue step. People have been playing this game for decades, most of us are adults with jobs. Grinding them the normal way is very time consuming, many of us don't have that time anymore. You can buy them from other players, but then you're likely feeding a market infested by bots. You can just play without them, but then you're giving yourself a hard time for the tougher content. Great if you enjoy the challenge, not so great if you just want to have a good and relaxing time in your favorite game.

However (and that is the obvious bit): Doing it the way they did was questionable to say the least. Selling in game power with real money, especially on the level of what consets and pcons are offering, is always gonna cause a stir, and for good reason. We already have something arguably much more powerful than consets/pcons in the MTX shop, being mercenaries, so it's not exactly something new even for this game specifically, but it's still not great. I'm not gonna make a secret out of the fact that I bought it regardless though. For the convenience of the vendor bell, for the incredible convenience of getting those consumables, and hopefully also to financially support the further development of the game I've been loving so much for nearly 20 years now.

Giving us the option to get these consumables on the masses we get them now with the coins is not the issue IMO, just the way you obtain it. Not because of how pricey it is (because a single 6$ payment for a life time 5 cons per day really isn't much), but just as a matter of principle. I think it would've been cooler if you got the 5 cons/day by achieving something in-game, like finishing all 4 campaigns once, to say "Congrats, you beat the GW story! Now to the end game content with you, here are 5 cons per day to help you out with that!". Not difficult to achieve, but neither is paying 6$ a single time, and that way it would at least be something achieved, instead of simply bought. If the cons are removed from the coin shop, I hope that the daily supply for them is reintroduced in a non-MTX way, rather than just returning to the very grind-heavy way of obtaining them.

Warrior Doing GWAMM, advice on a sword build. Warrior

I've used 100b for awhile and wanted to know if it's possible to use Seven Weapon Stance for Swords instead of Hammer and Scythe. Kinda tired of using flail as an IAS and I'm out of alcohol for Drunken Master.

Mostly just something to do for GWAMM really.

Is there a way to charm black moa if I already completed the quest?
Did not know at the time it is the only way to get this pet for HoM.
Do I need a new char now?

Why is there no Legolas-style Ranger build?

I've had a Ranger basically since I started playing this game. I've never been a particularly good player, but I've always felt like Ranger lacks damage compared to other professions.

Why isn't there a proper Legolas-style build?

Just bow, arrows, fast attacks and good damage.

In HM I always end up using builds with stuff like I Am the Strongest!, banners and other buffs just to make the damage feel decent.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there actually a good pure bow Ranger build for HM that I'm missing?
