Question Mtg Arena Bug(?) question.

Upvotes

I’m wondering if anyone has noticed a strange issue where trying to press on cards to see their flip side or specialize forms doesn’t work. For example, I can’t long press Extus to read Awaken the Blood Avatar unless I add him to the deck and then long press the side bar. It also seems that using a specialize creature as a commander no longer adds the second color option. Is that on purpose?

Question Is there a way to install the game (mobile) if its not available in your country?

Post image

I was initially able to bypass this by installing the game via uptodown, but after the recent Hobbit update, it stopped working; when I try to update it in uptodown, it redirects me to Google Play, which is... the exact reason why I went to uptodown in the first place.

Deck Looking for a budget Spider-Man 2099 standard Brawl deck list.

Post image
Upvotes

Anyone have a beginner friendly, Spider-Man 2099 standard brawl deck that is somewhat budget as well?

Love this card and the sort of exile play-style, very cool. I’ve only just started so I’ve only got a limited amount of rare and mythic wildcard.

Thanks in advance :)

Discussion Am I crazy for doing this?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I do build new decks sometimes but I stick with one deck for a very long time and even with old decks end up between plat and mythic. I play while I eat at work and sometimes at home a little bit, so I get the daily quest but rarely filling up the daily wins.

The only thing I do is adjust my decks with

new cards if I see something if I happen to see it from an enemy. So I stocked up a shit ton, dunno how long ago but I was at 100k and used it to build a deck, since then it stocks up again and I mainly refuse to touch it because I want to see how far it can go.

Am I the crazy one?

Question Why?

Ok so Ive been looking around online and I havent found any information. And I know I will get hate and negative comments. But I genuinely want to know.

So I have a lot of decks on Arena and have plenty to pick from. I try to make one deck of every color combo and single color. My mono White deck is Delney. And before everyone starts hating on Hare Apparent and how they don't want to sit there and watch bunnies multiply, my Delney deck has zero Hare Apparent cards. Zero. And even still, almost half of the opponents I match with concede the moment they are given the button becomes available.

I am just asking the MTG Arena community, I actually don't understand the hate, why people instantly concede to Delney. Is it specifically because of Hare Apparent or what?

Fluff False Advertising in Mixed-Up Premier Standard Draft (September 4–18) The packs contain mostly non-standard cards

Post image

This is how the new draft is advertised:

For those who prefer their draft environments to be a bit spicier, we're holding a Mixed-Up Premier Standard Draft from September 4–18! In a Mixed-Up Standard Draft, you'll draft from packs containing cards from a variety of Standard-legal sets to create a deck and battle other players in ranked, Best-of-One matches for a fun, unpredictable event.

Reality:

In the packs I received most extremely old cards that have not been standard for years! I was hoping for cards that are Standard NOW as they said! I can't use any of these cards!

Fluff Trophy from Secrets of Strixhaven

Post image

Woo! Just got my first draft trophy in MONTHS. After a few 3-3, 0-3 runs in SOS and HOB before, I’m proud to say pulled a trophy jamming B/G aggro.

I got the tip from another redditor who said they’d miss HOB quick draft, where they could easily jam B/G aggro, because the AI often skipped black in the pool. By the time I logged on SOS quick draft was up, but lo and behold the strategy still worked lol

Started off 0-2 and was really expecting to go 3-3 at best, but the lifegain combo worked out well. I got the sign posts for golgari: 2 [[pest mascot]] 2 [[bogwater lumaret]] an [[old-growth educator]] and [[moseo]] who came in clutch for my last 3 wins. being able to recur [[mindful biomancer]], [[thornfist striker]], and even the mascot at the end of the turn was CLUTCH.

The secret fav that pulled me out of the 0-2 hole was [[leech collector]]. collector plus lumaret is a nasty combo. 2 damage each turn for 1 black adds up fast.

Opponents casting impossible spells during my turn

Solved - im an idiot who forgot what show and tell does.

I've submitted a report about it already to WOTC, but I can't find any details online or if anyone else has experienced this. twice now in as many days i've run into players who cast some REAL BS during my turn that should not be possible.

The first one i kinda missed it since i was clicking through everything quickly, i can't recall if it was my endstep or just before that. but this guy had 4 wastes on the field, 2 useless dorks, and a candy trail in graveyard. NOTHING else in play for the opponent that could justify what was about to happen. during the MY turn, he pulls out some traxos, sourge of kroog on the battlefield, and then immediately starts his turn and drops The Vision. i looked at everything and there was no way in heck given what cards had been played or were in play that he could have cast that traxos on my turn, or if it was a timing bug, been able to cast both traxos and the vision with just the 4 mana he had.

then that brings us to 5 min ago, when something similar happened but i caught it right as it happened. board state is turn 3, i play a 3rd land, play show and tell into my omega, heartless evolution. opponent has a gilded goose, a forest and mountain, plays a many partings to tap the forest and create a second food. so i am putting my omega on the battlefield due to show and tell, he has 1 open red mana, an untapped goose, and 2 foods. INBETWEEN MY CARD HITTING THE FIELD AND THE "target up to one nonland perm an opponent controls" GOING ON THE STACK. AGAIN THIS IS BEFORE ITS "WHEN IT ENTERS" ABILITY EVEN GETS ON THE STACK, HE PLAYS AN UMBRASK'S FORGE.

litterally wtf. no umbrasks forge on field and he DOES NOT HAVE THE MANA TO CAST IT when the omega leave my hand to go on the battlefield. but before its enters effect can even trigger, which correct me if i'm wrong, but the opponent can't even cast instants or interactions during that period right? its not a "when you cast" where they can interrupt before it hits the field. "when it enters" effects are immediate on entry and nothing should be able to happen between it entering and the effect going on the stack right? but somehow, and thinking back i'm actually fairly certain it was a similar interaction with the one from yesterday with traxos, where they are playing cards for free inbetween my cards entering and its entry effect going on the stack.

is this a known bug and i'm just an idiot who can't find it?

Information I fell into the trap - just a warning to others don't buy brawl precons.

So I really enjoy the food and fellowship precon IRL, and I figured hey it's in the shop, I can afford it why not! About 17-20 matches later and not even remotely close to a win, I can say money well wasted. Just a friendly reminder, do not buy store brawl precons, they are a trap!

Can I realistically avoid evil rakdos [HOB] arena direct

Torn between decks. Rakdos obviously gets results but was hoping to get dancing to dawn going. The blue card draw/cycling seems fine but I’m worried it lacks enough recruit/synergy. Decent removal suite in both. Really wanna get a deep run, earned all my gems and this is the last entry. (went 3-2 twice before this)

Question Anyone here play Alchemy?

I've been grinding a lot of standard and brawl but the meta gets a little boring once you reach diamond. I just saw that Alchemy is on a 2 year rotation and the new cards at least offer some entertainment value. Anyone have any tips and which sets have the best Alchemy cards? I know bloomburrow rotates pretty soon.

Question Is Overrun dead?

Been theorizing around [[Overrun]] as a finisher in Standard Bo1 but hitting a wall. Might be nostalgia on my part but I remember it as a game-ending bomb. Is it too low-powered for today's power crept Standard?

Mulligan Idea - Brawl

While playing Brawl, instead of showing a player their entire opening hand, what if it only showed land cards? Meaning all other cards are hidden wheb deciding to mulligan or not. That way it’s about a player deciding if they have enough land to move forward instead of players trying to optimize their hand over and over.

The intended purpose was to avoid being mana screwed….”Lands am I right?”. Not so players can try to get the best starting hand every time.

Discussion Why isn’t bant control played more in standard?

I despise jeskai control I’m so tired of seeing it so I decided to go a different route. I like making/playing off meta decks that are still competitive so I made a bant control deck. It’s got the same interaction/card draw of Jeskai and Azorius control with green splashed in for ramp/more artifact/enchantment removal for all those pesky tablets and annex’s.

Overlord of the hauntwoods can be played for 3 mana giving you an everything land which ramps you and m can tap for any color. Combine that with biblioplex and cornucopia and casting together as one for the full 5 colors is very easy. Also gives you a big blocker mid to late game that can ramp you even more when it attacks.

Bant has access to dopplegang also which is another great finisher. Also has access to wistfulness which is a personal favorite of mine.

Here is my deck list! Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts/opinions and get some honest feedback thanks!

Discussion Hot Take: Standard shouldn't be the default constructed format we push new players toward

EDIT: I guess this was, indeed, a hot take.

TL;DR: I feel like eternal formats provide a better wildcard value for players without much to spend, but new players are rarely pushed in this direction because of a perceived cost-barrier and prohibitive power level. I personally see Standard as the format with a high barrier to entry in the form of wildcards. Much more so than Historic or Pioneer.

I see a lot of newer players come into the game and post here asking which standard deck they should craft now that they've earned up a small pool of wildcards, and it's always sort of baffling to me that this is the default constructed choice.

Maybe it's personal preference, but the rotation of Standard has never appealed to me. When I first started playing MTG ~10 years ago I skipped Standard and went straight into Modern. I was in a financial position to be able to do so, and at the time, that was the main barrier to Modern - older cards that haven't been reprinted, but are staples of the format and ergo expensive. I remember when Scalding Tarns broke $100 a pop!

In this context, recommending Standard makes total sense. The dollar value of a standard deck is a fraction of a modern deck, so it's more friendly to newcomers looking to buy in. However, on Arena this isn't how the economy works - a Timeless deck using 10 rares has the same purchase cost as a Standard deck using 10 rares. 10 rare Wildcards.

But then we get into the value of each Wildcard spent, and how long those cards will remain useful to you. Standard decks still require tens of rares and mythics, but they're seldom strong enough to become Historic staples and so end up collecting digital dust in your collection until they're potentially reprinted into the rotation.

I get it if you play a lot of limited, and ergo complete or near-complete entire standard sets, allowing you to build meta decks for free, but most new players can't pull that off and never go infinite with their gems. They're collecting wildcards and looking for a deck they can get good with over time.

New players are also typically FTP, so building a deck can take weeks or months to gather the resources for. This is often the argument used in favor of Standard, as eternal formats can be more wildcard intensive and include cards not printed into draft sets, but if you don't already have that standard collection from chaining drafts, the wildcard costs are similar. Plus, every wildcard investment in Historic/Pioneer/Timeless is more likely to remain relevant - especially lands.

Mono G Landfall in Standard costs over 30 rare wildcards for the maindeck alone. Jeskai Revelation is 34 rares and 8 mythics for the maindeck.

Historic Izzet Phoenix, a top-performing deck in the format, can be built with 8 mythic and ~15 rares, and it's an archetype that has existed for as long as Arclight Phoenix itself has been around. Barring bans, you'll likely be able to play that deck for years to come. My fiancee built it using budget lands for a few slots in the short-term with nothing but the wildcards you get from the free packs in your inbox on a new account + the $4.99 welcome bundle.

So why is this seen as the best way for new players to get into constructed play? Is it simply because Standard has always been seen as the, well, "standard format"? To me, Standard seems more like a format you play competitively, ignoring any idea of a budget, and chasing the meta with your wildcards every rotation. It's the format that limited players, streamers, and pros can afford to mess around in because they have entire sets completed and a bank of wildcards. It's also the format with the most tournament event representation, so it will naturally attract the best players looking to qualify for the next Arena Championship or what have you.

It's not much more "casual" than any other constructed format as far as gameplay or power level, but punishes casual players more severely by making them spend wildcards every rotation if they want to actually win games.

Fluff 3rd draft loss for connectivity problems...

Post image

I'm having frequent connectivity problems with Arena, I don't know from where exactly, it seems like a problem with my modem or internet provider, but anyway, it's so frustrating that this is how the game started and ended. It didn't show me my hand, passed priority to the opponent the returns to me without even leting me conced

My expression when I win with an absolute Jank deck.

Jokes aside, I know there are quite a few people who love cosmetics as much as I do (and a lot who don't care or even hate them), so I thought a quick headsup.

If you run into a [[The Infamous Cruelclaw]] deck with this pet, that's me, say hello.

Discussion Are you tired of matching up against muilti-coloured C.Brawl decks? (A tounge-in-cheek discussion about matchups.)

I'm pretty indifferent, to be honest... but! Easy solution to make sure you see only mono-coloured matchups is to just add a [[Null Elemental Blast]] to your deck!

Kinda like how I spent an hour making a "Lands Matter" deck and then matched up immediately against literally the only time I've ever seen someone play [[Fing Fang Foom]]. Or when I built a Recruit deck with [[The Queen of Dale]] and my first match was against (again the only time i've ever seen it) [[Kambal, Profiteering Mayor]] lol.

Matchups are pretty consistent for the most part: meta, meta, meta, meta... hmm I kinda wanna try something else, maybe I'll build a colorless artifact deck... ok, for your first matchup, here's a guy with [[Shatterstrom]] and 16 ways of recasting it!

Anyway, like the title says, this is meant to be tounge-in-cheek. I don't actually believe the algorithm looks for the exact worst matchup possible the first time you play some new jank-build. It is pretty uncanny how often it seems to happen though...

Edit: Whoops. The Kambal matchup I mentioned earlier was actually against the [[Geist of St. Traft]] deck I built yesterday. The Queen of Dale recruit deck I built just pretty much gets walked on t4 by a [[Toxic Deluge]] or any deck running green mana lol. I feel like the card has potential, but I'm probably not building around it properly.

Bug Tainted pact bugged?

I attempted to exile my entire deck with tainted pact and I noticed it was not working for me. It just stops randomly. I don’t even get a card.
