The 50th annual celebration of mead, meat and merriment is now the second-most attended renaissance fair in the country — thanks in large part to the Smiths, the Maryland family revered in industry circles because of their hands-on involvement and care.

I managed to get put on Medicaid for this year for the first time ever and have had issues all year trying to find specialists that will take my insurance. They put me on Carefirst Community Partners (aka Carefirst CHP) and when I tell them that, the offices say they don't participate - even doctors that are showing up on the Carefirst site as participating in Carefirst CHP. And when I call Carefirst to find a provider, they can't tell me anything different than what's on the website. I'm so frustrated because I have some serious stuff going on right now and can't seem to get it addressed. I feel terrible and the last thing I want to do is call multiple offices.

Anyone else on this specific insurance?

Apologies if this is the wrong sub. I’m new to Reddit and my account is too fresh to post to the Renfaire subreddit. Yesterday I registered for the waitlist for October 11th to get MD Renfaire tickets. But I’m wondering if I genuinely have a chance at being able to attend or if the waitlist queue is too deep at this point. I know Renfaire is super popular and I tried to pick a date that was farther out so I had a better chance of securing tickets, but it’s also October and I know a lot of people will probably want to go for the Halloween season. This would be my first year attending, but I haven’t seen a website where you can keep up with the queue or where you stand in the waitlist/how many people are ahead. Any info is greatly appreciated!!

We've been looking for somewhere around here that makes this dish but haven't had luck. Anywhere close to MD would work but preferably close to Baltimore/Howard County area.

If pics don't load, it's like a big pot with veggies, sauce, meats covered over with a big piece of cooked dough that is sliced open to reveal the inner veg/meat/sauce. Also, the name of the dish sold at a restaurant in Turkey is Güveç Kapama

Howdy everyone! Oktoberfest season is here again, and we’re fortunate to live in an area with so many amazing breweries and communities that embrace their German roots.

All of the systems have been down at Luminis all day. They said it could be days until it’s back since “that’s how long it took the last few times this happened.”

I have visited many Maryland parks and places in the Appalachian Mountains, but not many on the coast. After several of my friends told me I should visit Calvert Cliffs State Park, and reading about it on this subreddit, I finally bit the bullet and went today.

And I am really sorry that I waited so long! This park is wonderful and a tour de force--not just the beach, but the whole experience. Highlights include:

• The Orange Trail to the north, through a bunch of relatively small but steep hills through a thick forest.
• The wildlife, which included ospreys, squirrels, fish, turtles, and even a rather large black snake.
• The massive wetland created by some enterprising and talented beavers.
• The water is very calm and incredibly refreshing. Good Lord! I didn't realize how badly I needed this until today.
• The cliffs! They are quite wonderful and majestic, to the point where I almost felt like I was back on the California coast.
• The various small fish and tadpoles darting around, and the huge numbers of shells on the shore from all kinds of mollusks.
• And the fossils! I think I was the only person on the beach not hunting for them. And people were moderately successful when I was there-they found small fossil teeth from both rays and sharks.

So thank you Calvert Cliffs and Maryland Redditors. I will be back and I am sorry I ever doubted you.

I am looking to move, since i WFH I'm looking for affordable but safe areas or cities in MD that you all might recommend

I’m heading back up from northeast Florida

Maybe there’s something I don’t see as easily cause I’m from Anne Arundel County, but I do sorta wish I was staying in North Florida. Jacksonville is alright, the beaches are cool to look at but it gets old after a bit, but the country out here… my god it is some amazing country. About 30 minutes west of Jacksonville is some beautiful Palm and oak tree covered tropical dream. Lots of little houses on multi acre properties

I know western Maryland is sorta like that too, if you swap tropical for Appalachian mountain vibes, and I’ve thought a lot about moving here, but that’s damn near a different state from central Maryland.

What’s special about living in the (relatively) flat lands? Annapolis, Baltimore, Columbia, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, that sorta thing.

I saw the Field of Screams in Olney is back this year! Do we know if it is as good as it used to be? Not seeing too much online. Thanks everyone!!

I was born and raised in Baltimore but never knew how to eat blue crab until today. I have experience with crab legs, but not a whole crab. I feel like a true Marylander now, even though I’ve lived here my whole life!

I have applied for positions for the state of Maryland and will get emails that I am on the eligible list and never get a call for an interview. But I have applied for a position and have been contacted for an interview straight away.

Is the eligible listing basically a nice way of they saying you are qualified but we are not going to hire you. Or other have more experience but you meet the minimum qualification?

Hi there!

My wife and I (lesbian couple) are Floridians seeking to move out of state - what would essentially a values-based move.

Things have just taken too extreme of a hard right turn where we live, and we worry about the future of our children once they’re in school. Obviously bullying happens everywhere and will equip our children with how to handle that, but we’d like to strongly consider moving somewhere where families like ours are more accepted. The more progressive areas of Florida are extremely flood-prone and difficult for my wife to find a job in.

We’ve lived in colder places before, so are somewhat familiar with winter.

We also know taxes are going to be a big hike from what we’re currently used to - any insight on how to factor that in would be greatly appreciated!

🗺️Preferred location:
open to recommendations! Currently considering HoCo if we can afford it. Really want to move somewhere blue (or at least with a heavy blue lean). Strong public schools are important, as is general acceptance of LGBT community and diversity. Any recommendations within HoCo specifically or other areas in Maryland are welcomed!

💸Budget:
~$650-700K, would likely rent until we find our home. We’d want enough yard room to eventually build an ADU for my mother-in-law

I work remotely in the environmental science field. I could likely transfer with my job but would be open to new opportunities. My wife is an extremely talented and passionate high school public school teacher.

Myself, my wife, our two young children (not yet school age) and my wife’s mom (I won the MIL lottery. She’s fabulous and we’ve lived together previously for years with no issues)
