Jan 6th during the riot, the rioters had weapons and broke into the capitol building. why didn’t the police open fire? any other police department in any other city would have opened fire en masse.

Why aren't healthcare workers limited to wearing a single scrub color for their profession?

You hear about everyone wearing white coats in research/medical settings. Which is fine but then randoms complain about patient confusion in certain contexts which I doubt but seems easily fixed.

Why wouldn't hospitals/state governments standardize scrub color by profession? Use Pantone so its the same everywhere all states etc.

  • Doctors wear Black.
  • Nurses wear white.
  • Dentists wear blue.
  • Techs wear green.
  • Midlevels wear red.
  • PEDS wear prints.
  • Pharmacists wear yellow.
  • Academics wear brown.

etc.

something simple. maybe embroider the thing you are on the back of your scrub top or white coat like football player last names.

just seems like an obvious fix to the 'patient confusion' because other professions are doctors of X but not doctors of medicine... but also easier for everybody to identify each other quickly in emergencies or just in general.

why do fast food chains in canada only hire indian workers?

During our trip to Canada, all of my family members noticed a strange pattern. Almost every tim hortonswe went to only had Indian workers. Not to be rude, but why? Same for Wendys and other food places we went to.

Doesn't Canada have employment laws about hiring standards, diversity and unfair hiring practises of only hiring people from one race/background? Like this seems pretty obvious " hey this corporation only seems to be favoring hiring of Indian workers" lol we're tourtists and even we caught that. So how comes Canadians are okay with it, not raising their concerns or protesting?

I am sure there are plenty of Canadian high school/college students who would want to work these jobs as well and the fact that let it be this obvious with their discriminatory hiring is astounding to me.

Why do some men refer to men as men, but refer to women as girls or females?

Edit: I know women refer to themselves as girls too in some contexts like “girls night out”, but I was more so referring to when men and girls/females are used in the same sentence. For example “As a man, I prefer skinnier females” or “As a man, I prefer Asian girls”

Why do people see alcoholism more highly than weed consumption?

Obviously, none of these are okay. And the point of this post is not to make weed consumption normalized or okay.

Just had a family dispute. I wouldn’t say I have a weed addiction, but I definitely do smoke often.

My family was talking about how weed is not the same as alcohol and how it’s okay to drink alcohol but not to smoke.

This was a conversation being made for my 16 year old brother. My parents allowed him to drink alcohol once. They think its okay.

My mom was talking about how she doesn’t want me or my sister to be influences to my brother which is completely understandable. But then my sister looks at me and says that alcohol is not as bad as weed. (Shes used to be an alcoholic). She claims alcohol isnt as addicting as weed. Which i call bull.

An alcoholic is a term because..? Im not saying anything is worse or better but to treat one addiction as if it isnt as bad than another is bull. And to say alcohol isnt bad? Also bull.

Is it “cutter” or “kuh-tar”. I don’t want to come off as uneducated but also don’t want to come off as a self righteous American prick

For those in countries with free healthcare, how does that financially work?

I'm genuinely curious because I live in the US and would love it if we had free healthcare. In places like the UK, it comes from the taxpayers, but I don't know how the US could transition to something like that because we already pay a ton in taxes so I don't know where our government would get the money to fund that. Also, are your healthcare workers paid well? Is their salary also provided by taxpayers?

Do women actually find a man more attractive when he doesn’t give them too much, or am I just seeing a pattern that isn’t really there?

Since Reddit is anonymous, I want to ask this honestly, specifically to women.

I’ve noticed something over the years that I can’t quite figure out.

Sometimes I see men who don’t seem particularly willing to compromise, sacrifice, or go out of their way for their partner, and yet they seem to be deeply loved and desired. Sometimes they can even be a little emotionally unavailable, dominant, or what I would personally describe as “toxic.”

And then there are men who are extremely giving in relationships—who genuinely want their partner to be happy, support her ambitions, give her space to be unapologetically herself, and are willing to make sacrifices for the relationship.

I’m naturally much more like the second kind.

When I fall in love with someone, I become very submissive to her—not because I’m trying to win her over or because I think I have to earn her love. It’s just how I naturally feel when I genuinely love someone. Making her happy, accommodating her, and seeing her be herself actually makes me happy too.

But sometimes I wonder if that very quality makes a man less attractive.

I’m not talking about having no boundaries or becoming a doormat. I mean genuinely caring deeply about someone and being willing to put their happiness high on your list.

So I’m curious about the women here:

Is there actually some truth to the idea that a man who is a little harder to please, less accommodating, or even somewhat emotionally unavailable can feel more attractive than a man who is openly devoted and giving?

Or is this just a pattern I’ve personally noticed because of the kind of relationships I’ve encountered?

And if you prefer a very giving/submissive partner, what makes that attractive to you?

I’m genuinely interested in hearing women's perspectives on this, especially from those who have experienced both kinds of relationships.

Why do parents thing that their children “owe” them?

Nobody told them to have kids, so why do some parents use the “I put a roof over your head and food in your mouth” as an excuse? Isn’t that your job since it was YOUR choice to have children?

Do people genuinly think smoking weed is worse than drinking alcohol?

I'm saying this in the sense that in the state of Texas, if you're found with THC variants that you'll be at risk of 180-2 years state prison. Like that's absolutely ridiculous.

Versus if you're caught drinking underage all you'll get is a fine, same with If you're caught drinking and driving and if you do get jail time from that it's not that long.

Edit:
I'm making this post fully aware that both substances can be harmful when abused. But I'm saying in the instance where a cop is to find either weed in the vehicle or alchohol, the person with alcohol gets much less of a punishment than with weed which doesn't make sense to me.
I personally feel like the effects of weed do not even come close to the effects of being extremely intoxicated. Because hell some states allow weed as a medicated drug for people with anxiety, which is why A LOT of people smoke it! Versus alcohol has no benefits😭.

How do most people maintain their weight so easily?

This is not all meant to be insulting to overweight people, genuinely I couldn't care what anyone looks like.

I have a full-time job plus hobbies plus I need to sleep, how am I supposed to find time to make food or go out to eat, and 3+ times a day at that. I don't understand what I'm missing, even if you're eating something nutrient dense like eggs you would still need to eat like 30 to reach 2000 cal a day which is completely unreasonable. Even something unhealthy like a donut is 300 cals according to google so you would need 2 per meal which is more reasonable but still a lot. All that is ignoring the fact that most or at least some of the things you're going to eat are like rice and vegetables and other lower calorie things.

I suppose I kind of get it if you are drinking a lot of soda or energy drinks, since that doesn't really fill you up, but I can't be the only person that doesn't like carbonated drinks. Or if you are an athlete with protein shakes who portions out meals to make sure they get enough. But I don't understand how the average Joe doesn't struggle with this at all or has the opposite problem. What am I missing?

Edit: by maintain I mean keeping weight on

Why PC Gamers mock PS 5 pro price when PC parts are crazy expensive

Upvotes

I am honestly kinda baffled by this. First I have both PC and PS Pro. I dont have a dog in the game . I prefer to play on my PS Though

PS5 Pro (~$900) lands roughly in RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB / RX 9060 XT 16 GB territory in Digital Foundry-style

PC parts have become soo expensive that the PC I bought 2 years ago is more expensive now thatsa great for me I had money to buy it but now I cant upgrade.

Next NVIDIA card will probably be in 2 years because they cant make a good price

Today 5090 card costs 5000$ street value, 5080 costs 1500$. The 5060 that is what PS 5 uses thanks to PSSR 2 Is around 700$

If you love PC gaming thats great but saying its cheaper and laughing at PS 5 price when DDR 5 32 GB Ram just hit 500$ is crazy talk

If you can afford 3000-3500$ PC sure game looks better ofcours...

For example FABLE just released their system requirements to play it on 60 FPS on PC you need RTX 5080 or Maybe it was 5070 and AMD 7700 to run it that well. This is 3000$

This is because game studios optimise best for consoles since its only one processor etc.

I am interested in good discussion not insulting each other

How Do We Reverse Idiocracy?

Literacy, attention, cognitive development, even hand eye coordination has plummeted. As a 42 year old guy with no kids, I find it difficult to rationalize that my age and age group is the defining reason that the ‘youths’ common sense or even rational reasoning has subsided to illiteracy, nonsense, general tom foolishness and untied shoes.

Welcome to CostCo I love you,

E

Is life better anywhere outside the USA?

It seems that life is nearly impossible to afford or enjoy in the United States right now. People are commonly working two jobs to get by and they still cannot afford what they need to. Our work hours are insane, no affordable healthcare, it’s near impossible to own a house now, rent is high, having a child is seen as a luxury, food is expensive, our public transportation system sucks, and so on. The cost of living is overall just at impossible levels with no sign of improvement. Not to mention our government is not working for the people.

So I ask, is anywhere actually better? People say to move abroad and life will be better, but is that actually true? Where would actually be better and worth the move?

why do i instantly become irritated when my parents say anything

as a 16 yr old, i cant seem to understand why i always have cognitive bias against my parents whenever they say something. recently my mum was asking if i was studying, i said yes i was, and she said good, you know your cousin "x" is skipping hanging out with her friends to study. i instantly exploded at her and told her "im studying, what do you not understand about leaving me alone to study. the only time i hang out with my friends is at school and at sport, other than that i sit in my room and just study my ass off and youre thinking that im worse than my cousin". looking back, i apologised to my mum for lashing out on her the next day but it made me curious about why i instantly have resentment towards my parents when they try to ask me something normal. anyone know why?

Americans: Why is your "organic" and "fresh from farm" food more expensive than packaged food?
