Yesterday I got a call asking why my son had missed several days of school. The weird part is that every morning he leaves the house with his backpack like normal and comes back at the usual time, I haven’t confronted him yet because I genuinely want to know where he’s been going and why. If you were the parent, would you ask him immediately or wait until you knew more?

i was looking into weird idioms and funny sayings from different languages recently, and someone told me that in Dutch, people regularly use terms for illnesses (like fever, cholera, or pox) when they're angry or swearing.

coming from english where most swearing is about body parts or religion, this sounds super strange to me. do people actually say these out loud in casual conversation over there, or is it considered way too offensive/taboo for normal daily life?

This is not all meant to be insulting to overweight people, genuinely I couldn't care what anyone looks like.

I have a full-time job plus hobbies plus I need to sleep, how am I supposed to find time to make food or go out to eat, and 3+ times a day at that. I don't understand what I'm missing, even if you're eating something nutrient dense like eggs you would still need to eat like 30 to reach 2000 cal a day which is completely unreasonable. Even something unhealthy like a donut is 300 cals according to google so you would need 2 per meal which is more reasonable but still a lot. All that is ignoring the fact that most or at least some of the things you're going to eat are like rice and vegetables and other lower calorie things.

I suppose I kind of get it if you are drinking a lot of soda or energy drinks, since that doesn't really fill you up, but I can't be the only person that doesn't like carbonated drinks. Or if you are an athlete with protein shakes who portions out meals to make sure they get enough. But I don't understand how the average Joe doesn't struggle with this at all or has the opposite problem. What am I missing?

I'm saying this in the sense that in the state of Texas, if you're found with THC variants that you'll be at risk of 180-2 years state prison. Like that's absolutely ridiculous.

Versus if you're caught drinking underage all you'll get is a fine, same with If you're caught drinking and driving and if you do get jail time from that it's not that long.

I'm making this post fully aware that both substances can be harmful when abused. But I'm saying in the instance where a cop is to find either weed in the vehicle or alchohol, the person with alcohol gets much less of a punishment than with weed which doesn't make sense to me.
I personally feel like the effects of weed do not even come close to the effects of being extremely intoxicated. Because hell some states allow weed as a medicated drug for people with anxiety, which is why A LOT of people smoke it! Versus alcohol has no benefits😭.

I got coffee this morning and the barista pours it and grabs me a muffin. eleven seconds tops. then the tablet spins around and it’s already sitting on 30% by default. you have to actively hit custom and type zero. I normally tip when it get coffee but atp it’s getting insane and I’m not tipping $4 for 10 seconds of work.

I recently watched a new documentary on fried chicken on netflix, which REALLY put me off kfc and other similar places.

They were naming a couple of large franchises, and also brought up the sustainable chicken forum, which the companies in it also happen to own. But mcdonalds was not brought up once which I found incredibly odd.

I assumed that mcdonalds chickens are from the same place. I would still be surprised if they arent. But what is the actual deal with their chickens? why werent they mentioned about being poorly looked after as well?

They always laugh afterward and say they're just joking, but some of the comments actually bother me. Other people seem to think it's funny, so I feel like I'd be making a big deal out of it if I complained. What's the normal way to handle this?

What should I do if this gets discovered? There are a few ways it could be discovered accidentally. Please don’t give me sympathy or tell me to tell my dad. Also if anyone has tips on how to lie that would be appreciated.

Please don’t give any sympathy, I’ve been laughing about this with my girlfriend. And this is my dad’s brother and I’m 99% certain about this. I’m sure it’s through cheating and not through anything else. I want purely advice on how to lie and what I should do if this heats discovered.

I was just thinking about this, and my Grandfather worked for Caterpillar in Michigan right outta high school. He always joked he got over on the company because his pension after retirement was larger than his yearly salary. Granted, he did stay with the same company all his career.

Now, guaranteed pensions are largely strictly reserved for higher level corporate people (CEO, CFO, CMO…etc) while the average employee now is encouraged to contribute a portion of his paycheck to a 401k. Shifting the financial cost and investment risk to the worker. Even though companies have only gotten more profitable since 40-50 years ago.

So now, instead of having a guaranteed and defined benefit in retirement, your retirement can completely hinge on market performance.

How can this be seen as anything else than greed by large investment companies who wanna increase their AUM and have your funds in their control? So they lobbied for more “sustainable” investment vehicles. Because a 401k follows you from job to job whereas a pension does not. So it sounds better on paper.

Edit: I should add some nuance to this and say I understand why most mid-size or mom and pop companies benefit from no pensions. Why in the hell are trillion dollar companies, that we all know would get bailed out if they failed, not doing pensions anymore. They would have higher employee loyalty. We all know Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Large Banks…etc will never be allowed to fail.
