im a first year ece student . Before jumping into any specific domain,What are the most important basics I should learn first?. for ex mathematics , basic electronics, programing etc .

Is there a common foundation that will make it easier to explore different ECE domains later? Also, what would you recommend learning during the first year?

Does anyone know how to make a ring oscillator , using inverters, which will be connected to a buffer and then subsequently to an LED to “show” to frequency? I’ve been stuck on this for TWO days now😢😅. I tried using tinkercad and LTspice but to no avail. Also, I can seem to get my frequency to less than 5Hz to see the LED flashing the frequency.

I’ve tried on tinkercad and kept on blowing the IC. Any help is appreciated. 🙏 I tried calculations too

I have been doing research in VLSI field under the best teacher of vlsi in all of ece since the start of 2nd year and still continue to do it(already wrote one conference paper and working on 2-3 journals and conferences) but I also want to learn coding of which I only know basics, I am currently low on my CG and have found out that I don't have interest in communications or pcb designing... What should I do?? Focus on CG or research or coding I am not able to manage all of them but I also I can't leave all of them as according to me they certainly will benefit me...😭😭

Are hardware hackathons as prominent as software ones? I am a 2nd year student interested in RTL design/VLSI. I was wondering that hackathons can be a good exposure. But I have a hard time finding them. On campus mostly software ones take place.

Can someone suggest how to find where these hackathons take place and how to know which are worth giving your time to? Also, many companies specific hackathons happen too so how to get details regarding it?

I wanted to stay away from the south since I couldn't handle the humidity there. I know that NYC is known for fintech, but at the same time, I feel like I would enjoy living there due to the fact I don't need a car and exploring different cultures and how diverse it is. If NYC isn't the question, what other city should I consider based on my specialization and my degree career path in quantum optical communications/engineer?

What are the best low-cost or budget-friendly options? I'm looking for things that don't cost a fortune (ideally free, or under ₹1,000 – ₹2,000 via student discounts/NPTEL exams)

Core Skills: Verilog, SystemVerilog, UVM, RTL Design SVA, and basic Linting/Synthesis using Synopsys VCS, Design Compiler, SpyGlass, and QuestaSim.

So our procurement guys just flagged another round of price adjustment notices coming in from Infineon and ST, and I noticed Chinese vendors (Yangjie, StarPower, etc.) are pulling the exact same move. We're looking at 5% to 20% increases across two consecutive waves this year.

I did a deep dive into recent foundry utilization and H1 reports to see if vendors were just margin-grabbing or if there's actual structural squeeze. Turns out it's a mess on three fronts:

First off, AI servers are straight-up eating mature wafer capacity. An AI box uses somewhere between 8x to 18x the power semi content compared to a legacy rack. Right now, high-power PSUs and 800V setups are hogging 30%+ of global mature wafer lines.

On top of that, cost creep is everywhere. 8-inch raw wafers went up ~10-12% late last year, foundries tacked on another 5-15% on mature nodes, and OSAT/metals are up 5-30%. The chipmakers couldn't absorb it anymore, so they're dumping it on the BOMs.

The wildest part is the 8-inch paradox: global 8-inch capacity is actually shrinking (-2.4% this year as legacy fabs scale back), but fab utilization is sitting comfortably above 90%.

Looking at H1 financials, most of these vendor price hikes only kicked in broadly around July 1st, so Q3 gross margins are probably going to shoot up.

The concepts are clear. CPU's role in data transfer between IO And Memory is restricted. CPU relinquishes control of system buses and start doing some computations or something that does not require bus access.

In the meantime data transfer occurs between IO and Memory.

But my concern is that, who initiates the data transfer? Does IO tells CPU that it wants to transfer data to memory?

Say I am typing stuffs in my keyboard, which is IO. Now it needs to be stored in memory. How does the alert goes to whom?

I have been reading these stuffs without any ideas on how they impact the Computer Architecture. Can anyone shed some light?

I'm in the market for a laptop for my electrical and electronic engineering studies and don't really know what to go for. From research i've found a few options that caught my eye but they are all bulky, powerful, gaming laptops and i'm concerned about whether they'll sound like a jet engine inside my lecture hall. I also don't know whether they need to have a gpu or how demanding the software for EEE will be. I'm wondering what laptops you have opted for and what qualities you prioritised? I was hoping to get something with good battery life while also giving performance but obviously that's not possible. I've heard that people switch to integrated graphics when running small tasks like google etc but does the battery life really change drastically between using integrated and dedicated graphics? I've also read that AMD cpus are preferred and was wondering if anyone has experience with either and could recommend either intel or AMD. Also, I was told by my uncle, who is an engineer, that he would recommend 32gb ram and so the laptops i've shortlisted have 32gb ram but i'm wondering if that's necessary for school?
