"Ohhh, look how I tricked this dumb dumb baby in my trap so now I am right and they are wrong. I'm so smaaart even though it does not adress the actual argument and adds nothing to the debate. They teach arabic numerals in school btw."

And these type of comments always get tons of likes

Books The more i grow up, more i realize Harry Potter is Hazbin Hotel of fantasy books.

I don't really have long text or essay here but i just don't find Harry Potter actually good in any way, well except maybe few characters that deserve justice to be put into better books...but besides that Harry Potter is probably one of worst movies/books you can recommend to any child.

Even extra books that add to movies just do not help with this. No does Fantasy beasts or whatever Is it called help either.

Harry Potter is every surface fantasy stereotype mixed into one cash grab story.

Media Tropes I HATE when indie shows have literally no edge

(this is mostly for shows that actually have a message.)

I am so, SO, SO tired of indie shows literally having no edge. For example, lets look at The Amazing Digital Circus, and Jax.

For this discussion, lets ignore all the plot points that got thrown out because All Hail Jax. Jax is an awful person. He tortures people he's forced to live with until him or them go insane, has KILLED TWO PEOPLE, but he gets away with all of this because... he was a tumblr-sexy man who was trans!!!

Excluding the fact that no amount of mental distress makes this justified, its so... bland. We could've had Jax have a complex character where his remorse is choked out by the fact he knows he will never be punished for his actions, which could've been a commentary on consequential nihilism, but we didn't, because we needed the cold take that transphobia is bad. And of course it is! It's a problem. Does it get you thinking? No. Does it actually make people who don't have a personal connection to this topic feel anything? No! This message has absolutely NO edge.

(no, you cannot look at the average person and say its controversial for them because that's not your target audience. )

What I'm more looking more for are pieces of problematic media. I want pieces of media that get you to saw 'wow... i never looked at it from that way'. Shows are supposed to get you thinking, to get you to argue. The gift of man is to argue, is to ponder. To never disagree is to never think. Even as a theist (not stating which religion because this is reddit) I absolutely love pieces of media that get me thinking from an atheist's POV because its new. It's something I haven't thought of myself!

And don't say that 'i cant make my show controversial because then no-one would watch it!' because that's not an excuse for good writing. You can still go over messages that aren't too controversial but get you thinking. EG; Colonialism in Africa and Asia during the 1950's. (the acts of colonizers like the French are absolutely horrific, search it up). It gets you thinking, which is the goal!

Overall, can indie animators please stop making 'deep' shows with no edge. I don't want to see a character have a panic attack because someone was mean to them for the 600th time.

Comics Jean Grey is BECOMING MJ/being pushed to be "insert Spidey Love interest" 2.0 Because of BND, and I genuinely DON'T really understand why

Thumbnail

Upvotes

ONE of the biggest reasons I dislike and almost DESPISE the Peter/Jean pairing isn't simply because “Scott and Jean are a better couple.”which I could give multiple reasons in favor of,but Naaaah, It's that a LOT of the fanon surrounding Peter/Jean seems to require Jean Grey to become a COMPLETLY.DIFFERENT.CHARACTER.

Look at the fanarts.

1-Put Jean in Peter's Spider-Man suit. 2-Put MJ in Peter's Spider-Man suit. 3-Change the hair a little bit, or not even that...and suddenly the visual distinction between the two becomes almost entirely superficial.

And that's exactly what bothers me,Jean is not supposed to be “the new redheaded love interest for Spider-Man.”, because She isn't MJ with telepathy NOR a premium replacement for MJ because Peter/MJ's relationship is currently (and has been)for most, an embarassement in the comics.

She isn't “the redhead who understands Peter better.” either, she literally SA'ed him in the movie(which some people got a kick of I guess) and put people he loved at risk,at the end of the movie the takeaway should be that she is at stake 0 to become actually decent, not that she is ready to get a new BOYTOY,which, previously thanks to her reckless behavior btw,LED TO HIM GETTING SHOT!

She's Jean fucking Grey.

Jean has an enormous identity and mythology COMPLETLY independent of Spider-Man. this isnt an obscure fact, people should know this even from the DISASTROUS romantic triangles with hugh jackman movies (Wolverine),cartoons, etc as a whole.

Maybe they dont, but the thing is that She's originally one of the central characters of the X-Men, a telepath and telekinetic, a Phoenix host, a mutant dealing with constant persecution and existential threats, a teacher, a leader, a mother, and someone whose life is deeply intertwined with Scott Summers and the entire history of the X-Men.

And yet, in a lot of Peter/Jean fanart, heres what happens to all of that:

-Peter saves/comforts Jean while Jean somehow completly understands Peter.

-Jean wears Peter's suit(which I can understand for fanarts whatever)

But then she just becomes Peter's superpowered redheaded girlfriend...

At some point, what exactly is left that makes this Jean Grey rather than “MJ, but she's,more dependent on someone else somehow, and a mutant”???

That's my biggest problem with the pairing.

And the Scott issue makes this even worse

Scott isn't some random ex-boyfriend who happens to be inconvenient piece to the ship.

Jean and Scott have literal decades of SHARED history. They're teammates, leaders, family, parents, and have gone through some absolutely batshit insane stuff together. Their relationship is pratically woven into the mythology of the X-MEN itself.

Remove Scott from Peter's story and obviously Peter Parker is still fundamentally Peter Parker.

Remove Scott from Jean's story and you're literally removing an enormous structural component of who Jean is.

Peter doesn't need Jean to be Spider-Man,sure, Jean also doesn't need Scott to possess an identity either, obviously, but pretending Scott can simply be REPLACED by Peter without fundamentally changing Jean's character is ridiculous.

And that's where the “MJ 2.0” feeling comes from.

Peter/Jean fanon frequently doesn't expand Peter's world by introducing him to Jean Grey's world.

It takes Jean Grey and moves her into Peter Parker's world, like any other spider man fantasy, the female characters are just add-ons to Peter, and instead of them having something that was much more understandeable as a mentorship,it became seen as unecessary romance and the actual "ideal outcome" between characters that literally have no reason to follow that path.

Instead of Peter having to enter the X-Men's world, understand mutant politics, understand Jean's responsibilities, understand her history with Scott, her family, the Phoenix, her complicated relationship with power and responsibility, etc.(Which tbh would thankfully never happen),even in scenarios with context from the comics people have Jean simply becoming another person orbiting SpiderMan.

Another thing is that this Spider man fantasy of saving her is especially bizarre.

Jean has spent decades dealing with powers that are vastly more dangerous and psychologically complicated than ANYTHING Peter could possibly “teach” her how to handle.

She doesn't need Spider-Man to rescue her from herself.

She doesn't need a man to make her powers manageable.

She DOESN'T NEED Peter to give her "purpose".

If anything, the interesting question would be what Peter would have to learn from Jean.

But that's rarely what the fanon actually focuses on.

The ship's internal logic is as complex as the critical thinking behind it:

So once again, Jean's enormous character history gets reduced to “powerful redhead who needs Spider-Man.”

Yeah, That's not Jean Grey, but she really seems like She's being cast in the MJ role.

And that's precisely why the “Jean Grey + Spider-Man suit” fanarts are so revealing.

Because when you strip away the X-Men costume, the Phoenix mythology, Scott, Rachel, Cable, the mutant experience, the X-Men, etc., what are you left with?

Another redheaded woman standing next to Spider-Man.

Jean Grey should not have to become Spider-Man's next MJ to justify her existence in his story, and frankly, I find the idea that there seem to be fans who are dissatisfied with Peter/MJ and therefore immediately start looking for another iconic redhead to slot into Peter's romantic life incredibly reductive.

Jean Grey deserves better than being somebody's MJ replacement.

Anime & Manga I HATE BOA HANCOCK FROM ONE PIECE

Post image
4 Upvotes

Ok so you'll have to humor me here, because I'm only on fish-man island but I've been spoiled of the things ahead so I have decent knowledge. I HATE Boa Hancock. When she first appeared in the manga, I saw her and instantly hated her. She's a condescending self-righteous ass, and the only times she's not are when she's hanging out with Luffy and the straw hats. She is soooooooo oversexualized and it's so annoying GOD. At least Nami and Robin have soul, a personality. Hancock has NONE of that. NONE. She has an interesting backstory that they could have done something with, but instead it's used as her reason to simp for Luffy. The other female characters have depth, even if it is hidden behind Oda's blatant oversexualization. Hancock? She doesn't have that, why would she, she's the most beautiful woman in the world she doesn't need that! She'll just turn anyone she doesn't like into stone. She's always either simping for Luffy or being a condescending ass. And FURTHER MORE, she stole Robin's femme fatale vibe, while Robin's design got absolutely BUTCHERED. And it doesn't get better later in the series, no no no, it gets worse and worse over time from what I've seen. There is no character growth, no personality, just her looks, simping for Luffy, and being a dick. Anyways that's my rant :P

Live Action I HATE the Moffat era (Specifically Series 5-6)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Don't get me wrong, he can be a great writer and has written some of the best stories throughout not just the revival but out of all of Who in general. I just think he's terrible when he's the showrunner.

He's obsessed with making Doctor Who a fairy tale, and generally makes stories unreasonably complicated and convoluted. River Song in my opinion, is one of the worst characters of the show. Her being able to regenerate just because she was conceived in the tardis is stupid, and makes zero sense.

Moffat loves to do this thing where he thinks he's very, very clever by putting our characters in the end of the universe type situation and then.. what's the solution? Oh, my past self tells me what to do. I always knew what to do because I tell myself what to do, even my past self knew what to do because their past self told them what to do.
It's very circular, this is what's called a bootstrap paradox, and I hate it, because I feel it's lazy writing and it just leaves me wondering what happened in the original timeline for that to happen

Every female character is just very dominant and Moffat going "Please, step on me mommy"

It's worth considering that Series 7 was the first Eleven season I liked and things got better from there. The Capaldi seasons for the most part were also solid.

Meta I hate how the Lindsey supporters are associated with liberals

Post image
6 Upvotes

The image above is a screenshot of a comment taken from the comment section of an Instagram post, specifically a skit about the Lindsey Clancy situation.

Recently I've been seeing a lot of posts on the Lindsey Clancy situation, in which I think she is guilty and do not support or promote. I only have this one screenshot that I took just now, but I've seen a number of comments across many related posts calling out liberals for supposedly supporting her. Now I'm not aware how true it is that the majority of her supporters are liberals, but nonetheless I hate to see the left be associated with supporting this tragedy.

Similarly, which I don't feel like making a second post on, I've also seen the LGBTQ+ and furry communities associated with Israel, and it infuriates me since nearly everyone in those communities would most certainly not support them.

I just hate it when I see someone is quick to point fingers at the group of people who would most certainly be first to disagree with it, and I've seen it a lot recently with these two topics specifically.

I'm sorry if this is too political for this sub, this post is more about hating on these things being associated with one another for no good reason then hating on any group of people, and the rules only mention effects of the government itself.

Gaming I hate Micah Bell as a villain

Post image
0 Upvotes

I like the design, I like the acting, I even like him as a foil to Arthur, but as a villain he completely falls flat. He's introduced as such an obvious red herring that I never doubted he didn't betrayed the gang and was happy to see it was Molly who was the real rat...that is until Rockstar back pedaled in the final act and decided to play it straight anyway.

Like, geez, the abrasive asshole who Arthur never trusts is actually....BAD!? Wow, what a twist. Micah should have stayed as a metaphor and reminder to Arthur of what an outlaw really is. Not a Robin Hood-esque hero, but a criminal who is desperate and dirty and only out for themselves in the end. Making him the final bad guy of RDR2 really ruins what RDR2 is even about. Turns out it's actually really easy to spot the bad guy if you just, ya know, open your eyes and pay attention.

Comics WHY ARE YOU SO PROUD!?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Maybe this is more of a pet peeve. But I'm so tired of comic readers doing this even when I agree with their sentiments.

Years upon years of reading comments and posts about making fun of people who hasn't read comics just really made me hate all of them justified or not.

Why are you so proud of having read a comic? Why do you have to bring it up in clearly Live-Action discussions? Why are we lesser for not having read a conversation in an issue from 1972 you really only know about because of the fandom wiki?

It's like listening to "Intellectuals" looking down at you for enjoying Star Wars instead of Beowulf.

I know I'm being irrational, but I really fucking hate you!

⚾️🏈sports/activities⚽️🏀 I HATE THE SCRIMBSVILLE RAPTURE (and I hate swag loaf too)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Fifty years ago I got bored and I said "Scrimbles, wouldnt it be hilarious if you raptured everyone!"

And i said "scrimbles, what a brilliant idea but not to hasty, shall we?"

And Scrimbles said "yes yes, we will wait fifty years until the rapture, then we will take all of scrimbsville into a little ball and see what happens next!"

And Scrimbles said "wonderful. I will see myself in fifty years from today and surely nothing bad will happen."

It has been fifty years and now the rapture has arrived.

Im cold and its yellow now and the rooms go on forever. I find a line, a faint path in front of me and i fucking HATE THIS theres a LOAF OF BREAD!!! I hate this type of bread!! Its my famous Sweet Whole Almond Good bread! My SWAG bread! It has whole almonds in it and everyone in scrimbsville loves my swag loaf. Even the people allergic to almonds love my sweet almond loaf. EXCEPT FOR ME!!!!!!!! I HATE THAT STUPID FUCKING BREAD!!!!! the almonds are huge, what the fuck kind of family recipe is that??? I hate it so much its nasty and crunchy and its horrible and it smells like concrete and tastes even worse. Idk why these mfs love my loaf.

But the rapture came and now I am lost and now I am lonely. These halls are empty, this line of swag loaf guiding me leading me deeper into itself. Then I find him, another man and we embrace. He is out to get me I know it, I just cant prove it yet. I hate how empty it is here and I hate how powerless I feel to stop these walls from growing. I hate the lights and I hate that it smells like balls in here. Scrimbles willing, ill be out of here soon.......

Meta Now having a single gay character means a company is woke?

people I'm discussing this trying to dismantle how stupid the argument is, I don't think this, I'm just pointing inconstancy, I don't mind gay sex scenes cause I've banged dudes before I got a girlfriend.

I keep seeing comments online of people being mad or disgusted some random gay character exist cause medias are becoming woke, I can somewhat understand their reasoning, like they are "mad" when they make pre-existing characters queer or add random characters just for diversity points (cough cough most Netflix shows), sure in their mind it can be pretty annoying, but a singular gay dude? Gay people exist, bi people exist, now they should all get erased? And the fuck do you mean disgusting, sure the shoving kisses and them fucking in your face is one thing that can trigger you I guess, but one random line about "my husband is waiting at home" being the only hint of homosexuality is disgusting?

Idea I hate the idea that animals are equal to humans

Animals have no understanding of concepts beyond survival and basic communication. We are smarter, stronger, and simply more advanced than animals. Animals do not have equal rights because they don't have the mental capacity to understand and respect human rights. There's a reason why we don't put animals in jail for attacking humans.

Comics I hate this Spooderman movie skit

I keep getting reccomended to me, so one day I decide to watch it... until it got to the point where I realized it was just a big annoying ableist joke.

For the longest I was put off from Spooderman because I thought he was just a joke to make fun of disabled people. Hell, I even questioned why he got the briefest of cameos in Spiderverse. This shit has millions of fucking views and the joke is mocking the disabled.

Its such tasteless garbage. Spooderman is given the hallmark traits of a caricature of a mentally disabled person and is treated like a burden that the "normals" have to put up with.

More and more ableism is becoming normalized, regardless what side of the politic spectrum you are on. Saying the r-word, sped, special, etc. as an insult. I myself have a disabled brother and I have Audhd. These people don't know what its like living with disability. Shit like this isn't saying the quiet part out loud, but its a pretty good indicator that society still doesn't see mentally disabled people, one of our most vulnerable populations, as human.

Gaming GTA 6

Right so you’d wait 13 years and pay 100 dollars for a game that’s will most likely have 2/10 gameplay and a 5/10 story at best which the game itself will ask you to pay a subscription for
I can’t believe that people will think this will be the game of the century much less of the year, it’s gta, you know what it’ll be like? GTA it’s not like it’ll bring anything new to the table in any regard, if you’re genuinely preordering this slop for 100 dollars i genuinely can’t respect your opinion or your position in the human race

Language when people think gay and queer are interchangeable terms

Upvotes

i saw a post pointing out, very correctly so, that the rainbow flag isnt the gay flage. And yeah i see people call it the gay flag and it really annoys me as well. But then... SO MANY comments confidently incorrectly saying "well gay is an umbrella term" "im not gonna say lgbtq i just say gay" (the word queer literally exists) and like, no?? asexual people? bisexual people? trans straight people? this is so stupid on so many levels. Please inform yourself pr just dont speak.

definitely the joke of this show in my opinion is its worst aspect.

Idea "It Depends" without a solid answer

It's insanely vague, if they specify what circumstances or use objective information (such as stats) then obviously it's a non issue. And there's also very nebulous in contexts such as artforms, especially because all artforms inherently have multiple layers to them.

Anime & Manga I hate Mako from kill la kill

Post image
0 Upvotes

If there is one character I truly hate it’s her, I hate her personality, voice, design. I stay away from any anime the creator of kill la kill made because of her (gurenn lagan, pantystocking ect…) I also stay away from her voice actor because I hate her voice, I know every anime character she played in and if the character is important to the plot I don’t watch it. I have a deep hatred toward her, if someone gave me a rare figure of her I would burn it to make this atrocity disappear , I hate the fact she have a nendoroid, I hate the fact she have a figma and a RAH instead of way more interesting characters. I hate the fact she have merch, and more specifically I hate the fact I feel like I am the only one who hate her. Worst character design. I specifically hate that haircut, stupid face, and that boring donald duck uniform. Sometime I watch kill la kill scenes (not the anime in it’s entirety) to prove myself I am not wrong. I am someone who never really had any problems with other characters but HER

I remember one time when I was bored I decided to talk to her character AI version. SHE PISSED ME OFF, I was discussing with her and she always was so dumb and confident in her capabilities. I was insulting her and she was acting like a stupid child saying she did not hated me even when I was insulting her whole bloodline. She don’t understand anything you can’t discuss with people like her. I mean I know it’s an AI and she is not real but the AI was reproducing her personality really well she managed to make so angry. Man I despise this type of people. Innocent people who think they are the best and that world is beautiful
Mako is the type of human who think she can beat all by herself one army, two tanks, one nuclear bomb because of the power of friendship or some random shit,
This is an exaggeration but it’s just to prove my point.

Anyway this text is a little too long by now but believe me I have much more to say about her.

Also mako fans don’t take it too personally, I hate mako not her fans.

Live Action I hate the idea that fan casting is done in bad faith

Post image
26 Upvotes

If you’re a racist, sexist, homophobe, I’m sure it’s very easy to hold up the two pictures (the actor in the role and the original character), and make it all about race and homosexuality and man vs woman.

However, there’s nothing wrong fan casting or expressing dissatisfaction with how an original character is adapted or portrayed visually.

It’s fine to be annoyed if Leon doesn’t look like Leon. If it’s not annoying to you then that’s fine too, do your thing man, but Christopher judge is 100% right in saying that faithfulness to the source material is important and the people who brought that source material to life SHOULD BE in the mix with these adaptations creatively.

they SHOULD put their foot down when the higher ups come along and try to change long established established things like, the way a character looks or dresses or talks or acts.

There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just that some people take it too far.
