Animation I hate the guy who sues Mr. Incredible for saving his life. And his lawyer. They’re both just awful.

Post image
7.3k Upvotes

Every time The Incredibles is on I want to reach into my screen smack these two. Like I get it, he obviously didn’t want to be saved in the moment, but you get a second chance and this is what you do? Sue the guy who saves you and whine about it? What was Mr. incredible supposed to do? Not save someone jumping off a building? And his lawyer feels like exactly the kind of scumbag who would ruin the lives of innocent people and not lose a wink of sleep over it. I think it just annoys me because legal bullshit like this happens all the time in real life.

That and they both just have really punchable faces.

Generally, I don't like it when people impose rules on how you should enjoy something-like saying that if you didn't play the same way I did, you're a fake fan.
But it bothers me even more when those arbitrary rules are applied to a game like Minecraft—a game that actively encourages creativity and doing whatever you want-so I don't understand why anyone would get upset over something the game itself offers you.

Thing i do not enjoy the DESIGN of the 2021 pride flag

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I feel like I'm walking on eggshells here,

I'm bisexual, love the LGTBQ, I am purely talking about the flag from a design standpoint. There is no metaphor here, no underlying implications, I'm just talking about how it LOOKS.

I really like the 2018 one, the triangle on the left works well and the color combination and visual design is very aesthetically pleasing.

The issue I have with the 2021 is the purple circle. The flag is all stripes and the circle just doesn't really work in that context. It's also too thin, the actual intersex flag has a much thicker circle, and this one has a thinner one which looks weird compared to the thick stripes. Yellow next to the white pink and blue is also not a very good color combo.

Please don't ban me guys there is no hate to any group of people here

Idea I genuinely hate this sentiment

Post image

People wanna act like now is the worst time to live in human history, and that the past was better and the future will be better. Like most of human history was not romantic and heroic, it was significantly more miserable, with a lack of medicine and knowledge making mortality much higher, and life much more painful. There is no guarantee the future will be better, and while it likely will be, being doomer about living in the now is so pointless and stupid. Regardless of the period, all life throughout history has and always will be filled with love, and joy, and beauty that people should revel in, instead of whining about the modern world being "bad" as a whole. I see this idea said seriously and widely agreed upon, despite thinking its complete nonsense. Do you agree with this sentiment and why/why not?

General The fact that some people are trying to normalise this

It’s genuinely so gross, I’ve seen a lot of arguments for it and while there’s some interesting philosophical elements to it, I just find posts like these to be incredibly wrong. Not only is it your daughter (who you’ve raised for her entire life creating a massive power imbalance as youve been around her for as long as she’s been alive) but I also think it’s actual borderline grooming behaviour. Dating for 6 months at 19 is already bad but who knows how long he’s “loved” her for, i genuinely think he is a pedophile or at leas t someone with a fucked up mental state who needs therapy and mental help ASAP.

Media Tropes I hate how the concept of honour and chivalry is spat upon in modern media

Thumbnail

There seems to be a shift in adventure stories and the like that lean away from the typical kind, strong, charismatic knight/paladin archetype to favour more brutal rogue/assassin flavoured characters that laugh at the concept of fair play or mercy. Or maybe I’m just reading too much manwha idk. Now there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, the latter can be awesome in its own right, but I dont like how they often make the former look like bumbling fools in order to prop up their respective MCs. The good guy is a dumbass for sparing the life of his enemy. He’s a naive idiot for letting his opponent have a fair fight, even if they wouldn’t do the same to him. He’s an antiquated fool who cares more for his pride than the innocent if he’s morally against torture, terror, poison and other such tactics (This obviously has nothing to do with the historical codes of honour or the lack thereof, I’m only referring to the idealised fictional version here.)

“Mercy upon the ruthless is evil to the weak” is a sentiment you often see in regards to this, as if sparing the life of someone you’ve resoundingly beaten will 100% of the time lead them back to stealing/killing instead of them turning their life around after this sudden brush with death by the hand of a person who could’ve killed them but was good-willed enough to give them a second chance. Isnt this way cooler than the other cynical view? Not to mention that I am CERTAIN that the same people supporting this notion wouldnt be okay with cops executing surrendered criminals on the street, so why is it a problem if a Samurai or Knight doesnt do it?

John Mongol is here because GOT (great game btw, play it if you haven’t already, it’s old enough to read and write) does something similar to this. They make Shimura, who in universe is a highly accomplished and respected Warlord who has won unwinnable battles against “dishonourable” foes before (the Yarikawa rebellion), seem like a bullheaded dumbass who’d punch a wall 20 times and come to the conclusion that he needs to punch harder in order to overcome it instead of just climbing over. His in-game ideals about honour dont even apply to his own troops, how do you “look your opponent in the eye” as an archer trickshotting pissants from a mountain range over? Or using fire and hornets on your foes? Im assuming his bowmen acted like actual bowmen in his battles instead of doing the CQC bow strat Yuna does, so how does he explain that away? He’s deliberately made to look like a dullard in order for the audience to more readily agree with the brutal, cutthroat tactics Jin is adopting. The mongols won because they had an obscene number advantage and knew all of the tactics the Samurai employed, not because (fictional) Samurai tradition is inherently stupid.

Web Fiction Not necessarily hate but I dislike when headcanons are ONLY about a character's sexuality, gender and pronouns

Don't get me wrong, im not homophobic and i myself have lots of lgbt ocs. Those headcanons are cool but when it's the only headcanons they use it kinda feels mid. Those themselves are fine but when I see every single headcanons about a character be only gender and pronouns it pisses me off tbh, especially when they also go against Canon or don't really make sense

Meta I hate this pattern on Reddit

Post image
862 Upvotes

Why is an objectively unfunny (often unrelated to the post’s content) reaction image paired with a completely unoriginal title more likable than content that someone put time and effort into making?? Personally, my top post is asking if a stray cat is pregnant. How does that warrant THREE THOUSND UPVOTES??? I’d much rather get appreciation for my artwork or photography, which I spend a lot of time doing. This pattern also makes it laughably easy for bots to karma farm and then immediately start political spam.

Edit: this post is proving my point so well lmao

r/hatethissmug 5h ago

Art & Fanworks I've come to dislike the "strong and interesting woman paired with a lame guy" trope, and wish people had the courage to make a strong/hot girl AND guy couples.

Post image

Yeah, the endless "strong dommy mommy girl that is somehow paired with a loser unremkarable, guy" starts to get annoying. It's dishonest and comes off as someone trying to insert themselves without having the decency to idealize themselves.

I wish people more people could appreciate couples where both the guy and girl are both remarkable, powerful, capable, and beautiful.

It’s for ChatGPT. Enough said.

But aside from that they’re so cringe and badly acted. And the dialogue sounds so utterly unnatural. Probably cuz ChatGPT wrote it.

I also just hate how they’re trying to make AI seem cool.

We already are trying our efforts at making it better, climate change is real, those who don't believe probably don't even believe this, probably think that space itself isn't real and the moon landing is fake, and the earth is flat, but this crap is like saying "The internet is better without people trying to use it, faster speeds" or "Humans are better without electricity, they don't need it, and it spoils them". feels like promoting self genocide as it is saying the world is better without you.

Art & Fanworks I hate how liking plus sized bodies is demonized

Post image
514 Upvotes

Using official art of two popular characters here because it would be rude AF to find some random artist’s work and put them on blast so these are just examples.

My personal preference actually leans towards muscular bodies, and I still think it’s ridiculous how people will jump to accuse someone of “fetishizing” fat people when skinnier bodies also get sexualized and no one bats an eye. I brought up this topic to a friend I know who’s an artist and draws a lot of muscular characters. They said they’ve never had a single person accuse them of having a muscle fetish, and that they agree there’s a double standard here.

Suggestive fanart of a fat person is honestly no different from regular goon art. I think some of yall just hate fat people.

Non-fictional I hate when people walk slow

Thumbnail

I think it's great you're enjoying your walk and all, but the most common place for this to happen is at school. Seriously? One of the very few places on earth where you have a deadline on walking from one spot to another, and you decide to talk a leisurely stroll in front of everyone else.

"Just go around them!" you might say. But slow walkers must release some sort of pheromone to attract other slow walkers because they create this big ass human wall across the hallway that is IMPOSSIBLE to get around. The few times I've ever been late to class are always because of people deciding to walk slow. I really don't get it.

General I hate problems related to bad posture

Post image

People with lordosis, scoliosis, or kyphosis will understand this. Bad posture can have several negative effects on your body and overall well-being. It can cause neck, shoulder, and back pain, especially when you spend long periods sitting or looking down at a screen. Poor posture can also lead to muscle tension, headaches, reduced flexibility, and stiffness.

Art & Fanworks I hate Metal Statues with coloring.

I don't know why adding color to bronze statues have become popular recently in the last 10 years or so, but I hate it.

9/10 of ten it looks like shit. It enters a sort of uncanny valley where the statues look like they have insane Jaundice.

If you want a realistic statue, just make a Wax one it'll look better. If you want a good looking Metal one just leave it plain.

I feel like this is part of a broader trend in traditional art spheres to try and be as realistic as possible (like with the trend of hyperealistic paintings) which I think is a fad.

For context this was a short talking about how a 9 year old married a 22 year old in 1937 and it wasn't uncommon to see replies defending it.

These people actually exist among us. How someone could possibly defend this is genuinely beyond me. You don't even need to research this anyone who's ever interacted with a child knows they aren't developed and can't consent. How do you even defend this? And the "fact" that they were happy and never divorced makes no sense because how would she even know if he was a good husband when he's the only person she's ever been in a relationship for? Some people are beyond help and these people are bordering it.

THIS IS ME HATING PEOPLE’S ACTIONS, NOT PEOPLE ON AN INDIVIDUAL LEVEL

I genuinely hate it when people do this, no you are not funny, no you are not original, and no you are not liked. People who do this are so smug about it every single time and it just ruins any sort of discussion in the comment section because people will just reply with the thing OP hates or just flood the comments even more. I’m not asking for this to be a rule or anything but please from my bottom of my balls, fucking quit it.

I hate AI-generated music. I’m tired of seeing these stupid videos on almost every social media platform. Even though I keep blocking them, they still somehow show up in my feed. Who genuinely listens to this music? It feels completely soulless to me. I don’t feel anything when I listen to it, and I don’t understand how anyone can enjoy it

General stingray hate after Steve Irwin’s death

Thumbnail

This may not be a big deal, but it is something that truly makes me seethe with rage and I need to vent about it.

I saw a post about an orca slapping a pregnant sting ray out of the water. It was a debate again on the “morality” (??) of orcas, but the people in the comments were posting this BS.

I’m an avid animal lover so my first thought is, why are we placing human morality standards on fucking animals. Second, I grew up adoring Steve Irwin and watching animal planet all day. To hold any sort of animosity towards an entire species for acting in its nature? These people NEVER LOVED STEVE IRWIN IF THEY THINK THIS WAY. He would be rolling in his GRAVE if he found out people hate Sting rays for this reason.

It makes me so angry people use his name in vain to hate an animal when that was the exact reason he worked with animals in the first place.

I think it’s because I like the messy look or cool airbrushed customized shirts and stuff from that era but hate the ugly mass produced versions it’s so over done and annoying tbh 😭 (I like the artist in the example just not the style of tshirt)

I just view it as conservatives and puritans trying to get their boot in the door so they can ban more lgbt spaces.

My personal opinion is that if a fictional work has not harmed anyone in its production and that any non authorial material in the work has been consensually given then it should not be censored.

General I hate the act of using disabled people as an insult.

Post image
130 Upvotes

They pride themself on “Empathy and compassion for all living thing” yet this is fucking Gross. It’s as if they have some sort of mental dissonance that makes them think being cruel to someone who is mentally disabled is totally fine. I knew someone who had the disability this gross image is mocking. They didn’t ask to be born that way. Yet a lot of vegans do not care. I have no issue with vegans who can be respectful to others. But it seems a lot of them are full of hatred, racism, and ableism. This shit is NOT helping their cause. This shit really pissed me the fuck off. Because we can all mostly recognize that picking on people with severe disabilities is really fucked up , but these moral posturing assholes must not have the ability to sense irony. YES animals need more protections in this world, NO we do not need to be a bastard to people with disabilities to achieve this.
