We haven't even gotten wind. Not a drop of rain. I'm into my second bag of flamin Hot Cheetos. All that hurricane supply stuff is starting to look real delicious right now!

I started hurricane day drinking at 10:00 a.m. Work is canceled. Kids' school is canceled. I keep going out and looking at the sky! Surely I can't be the only person who feels like they're in a weird fever dream!

If living in Houston my entire life has taught me anything- it's better at any moment this could actually be a hurricane. So I better make sure that my beer is cold and I'm ready!

The Houston Chronicle has an op-ed from Matt Lanza of Space City Weather explaining why he left Houston and laying out his ideas for how our city needs to better prepare for floods and the effects of climate change. Here is a key quote:

When we think about solutions, we need to think about mitigation and resilience. And yes, that stuff costs money. But you know what else costs money? People fleeing to other cities because they’ve flooded repeatedly. Amazing restaurateurs could well decide that though they love Houston, in order to function with fewer flood risks or power outages due to storms, they need to take their business to Austin or San Antonio or elsewhere. Maybe even a top-tier energy company could decide that to keep their operations functioning with fewer risks of disruption, they should set up shop in Austin or Dallas. 

These aren’t far-fetched scenarios. These are plausible, and Houston and the state and the country, for that matter, need to think of them as such.

So what do we do? First off, accept that we’re going to have flooding. Flooding is a part of Houston. Honestly, it’s part of our culture at this point. “H-Town till I drown” should be a rallying cry, not a reluctant acceptance. We are a city that floods.

I spent some time today going through each reading module, for each grade (k-5th). I made a database of each module and whether it features religious teaching, or not. it also includes the link to the BB website where the information was derived.

I live in North Fort Worth and have a new kindergartener but; like Houston, my district has adopted this new curriculum. and when i asked to opt out they told me there was no carte blanche opt out and that i need to ask the teacher what story is being taught, and then contact the school, on a case by case basis so she can be removed. this seemed like a massive hill to climb and make sense of so i hope this database helps anyone trying to navigate this.

I just got out of work after a rough day and was driving northbound on 610 only to find that the exit ramp to get onto I-10 was closed forcing me to make an almost 20 minute detour. After crashing out for about 10 minutes yelling in frustration I want to know how I can find this out ahead of time. I have had 3 different energy brokers come to my business. They are very persistent and adamant about needing to see my electric bill. I’m always really busy when they come in so I can’t really speak to them/show them. How do y’all deal with this? Is this some type of scam?

Pappas Restaurants confirmed the location, known by employees as "Sito's #1," will serve its last meal on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Hi all, I'm a transplant and am looking for 9/11 events where I can go to honor the lives lost that day. Since this is the 25th anniversary, it's really important to me to be able to go honor them and be with others who were also close to the event.

I tried looking it up and the only things I can find is a run, and a choir. I can't physically run right now and since I'm deaf a choir won't be right for me.

I'm looking for something like a museum or a small event that is accessible and I can bring my family to.
