Things To Do Need something to do? Make friends? Some place to Eat? Moving Here? Simple Question thread for Sunday, August 30, 2026

2 Upvotes

Welcome to the /r/Indianapolis weekly casual conversation and questions thread.

We've set this thread up so that folks have a place to post general topics that don't necessarily need their own post and for folks to ask questions and get recommendations. Restaurant recommendations, places to stay, areas to live, parking help, airport information, things to do, help from social services, and things like that.

Looking for something to do? Check out these sites:

Suburbia:
* Beech Grove Community Events
* Play Fishers
* Carmel Parks
* Zionsville Community Calendar

Need help with social services? Look through Find Help / Aunt Bertha or contact the Mayor's Action Center

This thread defaults to sorting by new to make it easier to find new questions and discussions during the week.

City Watch Rusted Moon Outfitters: Broad Ripple Beware

400 Upvotes

I just wanted to share an unsavory experience I had with Rusted Moon Outfitters this morning 08/31 around 9:30 am in Broad Ripple.

I (26 f) was not actually within the store or on the property, I was actually passing by with my coworkers on the way back from a coffee run, and was on the sidewalk in front of the store front. An older man in a pick up truck was unloading a model airplane, and jokingly asked my coworkers and I if we wanted to go on a plane ride.

We responded and joked back with him, one of my coworkers even jokingly said yes. It was all light hearted, until it wasn’t.

As I passed him, he got way too close, grabbed me by the arm and pulled me toward him saying “oh, i like this one! What are you doing later?”

With his grip still on me, I knee-jerk responded by saying “no thanks, I appreciate it” and removed myself from his grip. My group and I at that point were all very aware of how inappropriate this situation was and continued back toward the office.

He then proceeded to call out after us, asking us where we worked, what building, etc.

I tried to ignore how much it bothered me, but for how easily it was for him to grab a random female stranger, literally off the street, he is definitely a dangerous person.

I actually went back hours later to confront the store, as it wasn’t yet clear if he was affiliated with Rusted Moon or not. After asking the staff who brought in the model plane, I was told the man in question was actually the store owner. After reminding them of the situation, it was clear that they were at least mildly aware of the situation, and very aware of his behavior, as one of the male staff members’ response was “yea, he’s kind of a weird guy, but he means well.”

Um, no. His actions absolutely did not communicate well meaning intentions. And for the staff to just brush over it was mildly expected, but disappointing nonetheless.

I guess this is all just meant to pose as a small vent and a large warning to any femme/female customers who find themselves heading to Rusted Moon Outfitters in Broad Ripple: The owner is completely out of pocket and a threat towards women, and I stand ten toes down on that. F you, dude.

EDIT: I’m by no means telling anyone not to shop there, I don’t really care what you all do. This is an awareness post, I literally wasn’t even inside the shop or on the premise?

AskIndy Where and what to fish in Indianapolis?

3 Upvotes

For context I am an extreme noob fisherman and have only ever gone with my friends who live out of state by the Great Lakes. (Primarily Bass fishing with Ned rigs)
I am wondering here in Indy what fishing spots are the best, what sort of gear/lures I should be using for what fish to have the most success. And just any other tips for a beginner fisherman in the Indianapolis area, thank you!

What in the holy hell was that sound near 49th and Ralston?

Not trying to be dramatic, just curious if anyone else heard what just sounded like 30 seconds of machine gun fire. Did I miss something? Do fireworks do that now? It was extremely loud and unsettling.

High AES Bill PSA, check your crawl space!

26 Upvotes

I went into my crawl space a realized 7 of the 9 HVAC ducts were not properly connected. 2 were completely disconnected about 15 feet down the line and the other 5 had significant gaps. I am also a victim of high AES bills but I’m hoping fixing this will help things.

Politics Fall activities? Haunted house/ orchard / coffees

51 Upvotes

Hello! Best time of the yearrrrrr. This will be my first fall in Indy and I take the fall festivities very seriously. I'm in downtown for a reference point. Would love an apple orchard rec (preferably one with a nice gift shop), haunted house rec and coffee shops with the best seasonal drinks. If there are any other fall festivals/ activities please let me know!!! Appreciate it - (this is also for people in their mid-late 20s with no children)

AES Indiana bill was $400 - what can we do?

42 Upvotes

I just paid my latest AES bill, and it's gone up so much over the last few months. This one was just under $400, and I keep reading about more rate hikes coming.

It’s not like we can cancel our subscription and switch to another electric company. We just have to sit here and pay whatever insane number they pull out of thin air while the service doesn’t get any better.

Idea that probably won't make a huge difference but might make us feel better: leave a Google review about how high our bills are getting to be.

Petty, yes, but at least it's a place to voice our anger and make sure they have a one-star rating for the one-star service we're getting.

Classifieds Has anybody used an organization company they loved?

7 Upvotes

I’m looking to hire a company that does organizing. Especially one that knows how to organize in a way that works for ADHD brains. I know this is a very Facebook-y question and I asked on my local mom group (which is really the target demographic for these kinds of services) but I just got a handful of people saying they could do it. I’d rather work with a company or individual who has experience and a decent reputation. I don’t want to spend hundreds for a system that will fail in 3 months.

Sports Bocce Ball

5 Upvotes

I’m beginning to learn Bocce Ball. Besides watching countless you tube videos, I’d like to do some hands on learning. Looking for recommendations, close to downtown or even south side and in to Greenwood, for absolute beginners to learn and master the game. I don’t want to be a free agent and be on a team till I feel somewhat proficient.

First-time mom looking for infant daycare/childcare recommendations in Indianapolis

7 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m a first-time mom starting to look into childcare options around Indianapolis for when my baby is about 2 months old.
I’m a nurse and will be working 12-hour shifts, while my husband usually works 8-hour shifts, so I’m trying to get an idea of what options are out there like daycare centers, licensed in-home daycares, or other childcare arrangements.
I’d especially love recommendations from parents who have had a good experience with infant care!
If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to know:
• What daycare/childcare provider you use and what area of Indy it’s in
• About how much you pay weekly or monthly
• Their days/hours of operation
• Whether they offer full-time, part-time, or flexible scheduling
• How old your baby was when they started
• What they provide (diapers, wipes, formula/food, etc.) versus what you have to bring
• How you feel about the caregiver-to-baby ratio and communication with parents
• Whether they have a waitlist and how early you’d recommend applying
I’m completely new to all of this, so I’d also appreciate any advice about what to look for, red flags to avoid, or questions I should be asking when touring places. 🤍
Thank you!!

History Pegasus HPV at IMS 1983

Post image
40 Upvotes

For a couple of years in the 1980s the International Human Powered Vehicle Association held their championships in Indianapolis. They used several venues, including the Major Taylor Velodrome, Eagle Creek Park, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Pegasus was a 375 lb., 54-speed, four-passenger vehicle in which the riders sat two abreast and back to back. I don’t recall what its best lap speed was, but it was photogenic.
