It's been a VERY long time since we last had to make one of these threads, but today has brought a big leak which is hard to keep fully contained! This thread is intended to give people a place to discuss this leak, while still keeping the sub safe for people who don't want to hear about it.
This thread is the only place where discussion of this leak is allowed. Threads and comments mentioning it outside of this thread will be removed, and users who persistently break this rule will be banned. That means, if you don't want to hear about the leaks, don't read this thread! Surprises are fun, and knowing about the leak won't make it come any sooner.
For those who DO want to discuss the leak, we'd like to stress:

(This post is referring to actual help posts - for addressing the recent meme trend, see this thread)
This community is no stranger to people asking for help in games. Metroid is a series with a pretty esoteric design language, which can be pretty confusing for anyone who isn't familiar with it (or even, sometimes, anyone who IS familiar with it), and it takes a bit of playtime to learn it.
We want to keep this community welcoming to newcomers, and part of that is helping people enjoy their first experiences with the games! It's exciting to get a peek into someone's first run of a game you love. But, it can also be frustrating when a post asking for help doesn't give enough information to help. So, in an effort to help us help you, please follow these guidelines for how to ask for help:
Try common solutions before posting! Most of the time, when you're stuck in a room, the solution is to bomb everything. Bombs will reveal any breakable blocks, and Power Bombs usually will too. Additionally, some of the 2D games feature fake walls - try going into Morph Ball and rubbing up against the walls in the room you're stuck in. Look for any tiles which seem to be different from the rest. And, lastly, if you're playing Super Metroid, remember that there's a run button - B by default! If you're playing any of the Prime games, make sure you've scanned everything! If you've already tried these things, mention that in the post!
Tell us what game you're playing! Just saying "Stuck after Ridley" can be referring to half the games in the series. Are you playing Super Metroid? Zero Mission? Fusion? This is a VITAL piece of information, but you'd be amazed at how many people forget to include it.
Tell us what you did last! The best things to mention are the most recent item you got, and the most recent boss you fought. This is IMMENSELY helpful for helping us figure out where you are! If you say you're stuck playing Super Metroid and you just got Super Missiles after fighting the big plant monster (Spore Spawn), 90% of this sub will immediately know where you are and what to do. If you can't remember, most Metroid games have an Inventory screen showing all your items. Tell us what's in there!
Tell us where you are! A picture of the room you're in is best. A picture of the map is second-best, but harder to interpret, and mainly useful as a complement to a picture of the room. Failing both of those, tell us what area you're in, where you've gone from the last major landmark, what the room you're in looks like, and so on. Anything you can do to help us figure out what's keeping you from going forward.
Don't assume you're softlocked! It is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible, to accidentally softlock yourself in any Metroid game. However, Metroid games frequently hide the path forward from you. That's an intentional part of the fun, not a progression bug! Barring exceptional circumstances, if you didn't perform a glitch, you're not softlocked.
Including all that information will make helping you far easier. If you didn't include that information in your initial post, edit it, or leave a comment with this information!
Additionally, for people who GIVE help to people when they're stuck, thank you! Here are some things to keep in mind as you do so:
Try giving hints first! It's usually more rewarding for new players to be given some direction first, and try to figure it out from there, rather than being given the exact right answer immediately. Instead of saying, "Go left three rooms and then bomb the floor", say, "The room on the left end of the map seems a bit empty, doesn't it? Maybe you're missing something there."
Don't be too slow to give solutions! In contrast to #1, giving hints is helpful, but sometimes people just need to be told what to do. A good rule of thumb is to give a hint, then in the same comment, put the solution in spoiler-tags, so that the player can decide for themselves when they're done trying.
Read the comments before responding! OP may have provided additional context or progress. Or, they might have already solved it, and don't need help anymore!
Remember that getting stuck is normal! It's part of the Metroid experience. There's no need to make fun of people who are legitimately stuck, no matter how easy it may seem to you.
I hope those points help!

Just finished the game on my PSP (emulated). I have the physical GBA cartridge but I actually prefer playing GBA games on my PSP since the screen is bigger and a bit better quality.
The game was great! I really appreciated the little story bits about Samus and the federation force. The levels, progression and bosses were really a treat in this game. I really loved Zero Mission on the GBA and Fusion felt like it was just more of that.
I’ll probably play Super Metroid next but I might take a Metroid break for a bit. I’ve completed like 5 Metroid games this summer.

I finished this a while back now but didn't want to post so soon after finishing Super Metroid. Obligatory save state caveat to my finish time
I will admit, precision in platforming is not my forte so that may be a factor but goodness me this was HARD. There were times I was struggling to even get through normal rooms with how much life a single enemy hit takes off. Same with the bosses, some were really brutal (Nightmare was bordering rage quit territory, and SA-X took at least 20 to 30 tries) and I also just sucked at finishing off the bobby thingy at the end of battles, so there were multiple times I beat the boss but died afterwards anyway. Mixed feelings on this, it got frustrated at times but also was the first retro game that really challenged me difficulty wise which was quite enjoyable. Very rewarding as well.
Having just started to get the hang of exploration in the series with SM, was disappointed with how linear it was but I didn't mind the boss rush style gameplay. Atmosphere and all was excellent, the SA-X is probably the first gaming villain since I played FF7 years ago that I was terrified to face up against. Also the relief when it gets jettisoned off with the lab only to find out there were more was a damn good moment. The SA-X alone probably makes up for any of my complaints.
Liked the addition of more story but the Adam plot fell a bit flat to me - I understand when your series runs since the 8-bit era you kind of have to retrospectively add backstory but it was hard to get into when after four games suddenly there's this fellow never mentioned or alluded to before across games and manuals. I don't know, given the obvious parallels between this and Metroid 2 (and separately the ending of SM, still a bit gutted over that), I'd have been more interested to see Samus' thoughts and struggles over engaging in another genocide on a species which is a direct consequence of her previous one. Not something that totally ruined the game for me but like I said, fell a bit flat.
If I had to rank the games subjectively, it'd probably be something like Super > Nestroid > Fusion > Zero Mission > Metroid 2 (bizarrely after borderline revising the map I've ended up really liking Nestroid. Might give gb Metroid 2 another attempt). Tbf all bar Metroid 2 I can say I really enjoyed and kind of gutted that I've finished off that era of the series.
Still need to decide how to go forward. Dread is off the table until my switch is fixed, unsure if it's really worth playing the 2DS version of Metroid 2, and I briefly tried Prime 1 but I'm not the biggest fan of FPS style games (it's the trauma from playing Jedi Outcast). Was looking at the Prime Origins game as well. I'll see, I'll probably give Prime 1 a proper go again since I never thought I'd really enjoy Metroidvanias and here I am

🏖️🏝️ As salamualykum folks. Happy September ~ I love Metroid Prime 4! I mean I haven’t played it yet, but it looks gorgeous and after waiting an actual life time to play it., I’m excited to play it with my little cousins & sis, mixed reviews and all from community.
🩵🐬 That being said…due to all the mixed reviews and experiences everyone has had with the game, I’m worried that Nintendo will A ) blame the Metroid series as a whole ( and make us wait another lifetime for Prime 5. God forbid! ) and B ), blame Sylux and just not add him in Smash.
🌸🍇 But I’m hopeful inshallah! Godwilling our favorite grudge holder will make it to Smash. Somehow. :)

I can recognize some Chozo characters, but then there's a lot I don't recognize. Perhaps this was before the alphabet was finalized in Other M? Or maybe I'm just not able to decipher it.

MP2 is one of the few Metroid games where you absolutely want as many upgrades as you can get your hands on throughout the game (especially the beam ammo upgrades)
After a certain point you start to realize just how useful the charged dark & light beam shots are, with the charged dark beam working the same as an ice beam to freeze enemies for a insta kill combo with a missile, and the charged light beam doing massive damage to dark world enemies such as the Ing who start to take less & less damage from regular light beam shots.
The tracking properties of the dark beam are also very useful for fast moving enemies and bosses that easily dodge the slow dark beam shots, you end up saving more ammo just using a charged dark beam shot getting up close to the enemy compared to just shooting regular dark beam shots at a distance which will miss more often than not. In general the charged shots are just better as the window for opportunity to attack enemies & bosses gets smaller and smaller as you progress (Dark Chykka for example is only stunned for a moment so may as well use charged light beam shots since it tanks regular light beam shots)

Originally posted with pics of the areas. Some were real low quality and I don't have time right now to get better replacements, so I'll just forego visual aides right now.
I feel like Prime 4 lacks the truly hostile environments of the original trilogy
One of the things that had been bugging me about Prime 4 is the lack of danger I felt while exploring the areas. Some of that I chalked up to experience. I first played the trilogy when I was a kid, and as an adult I am much better at video games.
But I don't think that is the whole reason why. I think a big part of it is that the danger levels of the environments aren't as high. Like sure, there's lava and pits to fall into, but those are so ubiquitous in games, and they aren't really that dangerous in Prime 4
Meanwhile, looking back at the trilogy:
-Chozo Ruins: The toxic water can be very dangerous if you aren't careful. Last time I played I fell into the water during the Hive Totem miniboss and very quickly died.
-Phazon Mines: Most of the bottom level is coated in Phazon, which, like the toxic water, can easily chew through health. I think as a kid a lot of my deaths caused by the Omega Pirate were partially caused by accidentally backing into its Phazon pools.
-Impact Crater: Has Red Phazon which is so corrosive even the Phazon Suit can't handle it, the creepy teeth like imagery making it feel like a rotting corpse (which it is), and that nerve wracking climb in the main room.
-Dark Aether. Basically most of it. If you've played Echoes you know. If you haven't, go play Echoes.
-Pirate Homeworld. Heart of the enemy stronghold, that, even when you're not being actively attacked you're in danger from the acid rain.
-GFS Valhalla. Not dangerous from the environment alone, but it is so supremely creepy I had to mention it.
-Phaaze. A planet made of Phazon, and this time the threat isn't being killed by it, but twisted by it into a thing of evil.
In contrast, Prime 4 is really banking on you finding the Grievers scary and/or threatening to add tension and danger to the environment. If you find them to be pushovers (like I did), it sucks out a lot of that tension from areas like Ice Belt and Great Mines. The enemies aren't assisting the already dangerous environments like in previous games, they're trying to be the sole reason it is dangerous.
It also affects progression. It felt good to find an item (or in the case of Chozo Ruins, beat a boss) that neutralizes the threat of the environment. It really adds to the feel of getting powerful (also a reason I miss water environments in the Prime games), and that just isn't in Prime 4 beyond getting a motorcycle upgrade to cross a pool of lava that is more a roadblock than it is an actual threat.
