Greetings, just got my virtual boy in the mail today and I can't wait to get it up and running

So I bought this Virtual Boy sometime last week, it just arrived in the mail today, and I bought it knowing that it was faulty; both displays don't work, and I've done my research and understand that this is a common failure so I went and bought the eyepatch kit along with it

The system works fully otherwise, I fired up all three cartridges and heard the audio, and was able to navigate blindly to get the games going

The virtual boy has only one actually VR game

It's a shame that there were never any homebrew VR games, teleroboxer and technically red alarm and innsmouth are the only first person games. I really like teleroboxer as it's ment to make you feel like you have to figure out your opponent and are actually boxing and I wish the virtual boy had more VR experiences even if the hardware is obviously nothing crazy

Yeeeeesss I got one, can’t wait. How’s everyone’s experience with it?

I made Zero Racers full box art (front, back and spines) and a Label for it.

I made this in mspaint. The empty vb full cover box and empty label I used here came from a post from planetvb website.

I wrote the description on the back on my own and is slightly inspired by the zero racers magazine.

I made this because I love the game and I want to have a physical game box to put on my vb shelf, though I'm still searching online for someone that is willing to print the front, back and all spines for it.

I was so excited to play Dragon Hopper on the original hardware. I got to stage 3 before I had to go to bed. It is a very fun game and it might be beating Bound High as my favorite Virtualboy game (we will see as I play through more of it) I really do wish this would have released back in 1995 along with Bound High and Zero Racers. I am glade I also get to use the custom case that I ordered for Dragon Hopper last year. I hope that Vintex will offer a label sticker for Zero racer that will match the original Virtualboy game ascetic like they did for Dragon Hopper so that I can swap it out from the one I have currently.

Dragon Hoppers is a Gem! Spoiler

I was finnally able to play this gem of game today with my new MrCART.

Still need to finish it but it has some fun dynamics and much deeper than I expected.

Different dragon forms that have special abiltiies to travese each level as well different magic. There are 12 different magic abilties you unlock by collecting magic tokens where you can spend them by choosing from a deck of cards.

So far I've seen the following:

  • Recovery (automatically given) Adds one full heart to health
  • Star Protection Temporarily, Dorin can damage a monster just by touching it
  • Rabbit A monster will be turned into a rabbit. (or possibly a heart)
  • Flashback Dorin will go back to where he was a little while ago
  • Invisibility Dorin becomes invisible
  • Small Dorin Dorin will become small. Monsters will lose sight of Dorin
  • Explosion An explosion will damage nearby monsters
  • Stop Time will temporarily stop.
  • Speed Temporarily makes Dorin move faster

If you are on the fence about playing or getting this game from Vintex I highly recommend you do. It's up there in my top 5 best Virtual Boy games.

In an alternate universe, Virtual Boy kept going, and going, and going, and going…

Okay, so homebrew not pictured aside, there’s still only 29 games here. But for a system whose official library at time of death was just 22 games globally, that’s nearly a 32% increase. I love this weird little system so much and I hope to be able to keep adding more games to my collection for years to come.

(p.s. yes, I know you hate the box I went with for Zero Racers—I didn’t design it, but I do like it, even if it is most certainly AI.)

Looking for VGA or HDMI Video merger equipment that isn't massive/volt guzzling

I'm in a little bit of a pickle. My Virtual Boy works well and could in theory work well without this extra equipment however in order to play it in 3D I need to add a 1990s professional TV VGA equipment to take the left eye which is black and red and the right eye which is black and cyan and merge them into one anaglyph play my virtual Boy without pretending I'm a peeping Tom with the freedom to be able to move around and not be a statue all day.

The problem is the 1990s professional TV equipment is a bulky B kind of heavy and C a bit electric guzzling.

The problem is if I lose power then the 3D mode gets lost and I have to reprogram it in such a wonky system to work with that it becomes hit or miss as to whether I get the 3D angle of back successfully. So it has to constantly run in vampire mode and in vampire mode in the 90s is not the same as vampire mode in the 2020s, remember this was broadcast equipment which prioritizes different things than consumer equipment so maybe instead of cutting off the first density you don't need it it stays on desperately preventing dead air to happen on the TV station.

The secret is to find a video syncher that could take two VGA signals from a double tap VGA and merge them together into one signal. Is there any equipment that is either a smaller B lighter and see less energy consuming meaning you could turn it off and not have it run all day and not lose the programming that would be able to turn my Virtual Boy into a 3D virtual boy on a TV.

Not helping things is Nintendo requiring the use of cardboard to play the Nintendo switch online virtual boy. If I was able to get rid of that piece of equipment I could save a lot on electricity but I don't know how long I could go without it before I have to reprogram it. If only Nintendo had a $25 consolization license for the Nintendo switch online virtual boy half license. I would buy that in an instant and literally the only games that I could play on the Virtual Boy physical that I don't need to play anywhere else would be water World, Panic bomber and Hyper fighting and Nester's Funky Bowling. I think every other title is on the NSO online there were like a 24 World titles in all regions of Virtual Boy and NSO probably has like rights to like 19 of them and I discussed for them they wouldn't get the rights to so how many does that leave left?

So I'm just wondering should I wait for Nintendo to come up with a consolization license so I can play my Virtual Boy NSO games in 3D on a TV or should I invest in a smaller lighter and less energy guzzling VGA / HDMI merger box that I can actually turn off and and have it keep its programming while I am not engaged in the Virtual Boy?

I don't know where to find a VGA merger box they'll take the Red of the left eye, the cyan of the right eye which is green and blue, and merge them in those two separate video signals into one video signal, the low enough ping where I don't notice it gameplay wise that there's any lag.

I'll be willing to accept an HDMI merger box which can merge the two signals in the one.

I don't know what happens if you merge the videos with a passive adapter if they were converted to composite video, maybe I can merge the video before it goes in the composite converter I do have a composite video converter for something else so maybe that might help.

Just looking for a little help to save energy and the headache of reprogramming that 1990s TV video converter.

The hype for this game is so worth it. I received my copy this morning but I couldn’t open it yet because I had to go to work all day today. I got off of work at 10:45pm.

This game’s controls plays really good! Turning and cutting corners never felt better, it’s been a while since I played a racing game. So far this game is so polished and the sound track is absolute fire🔥.
The way you race in the tracks with no music but just the sounds of other racers is just so unbelievably cool. Racing on the final lap gets me so hyped for the win.

It blows my mind how good the virtual boy can handle this game. The frame rate is so good it’s unreal. This might be my new favorite virtual boy game.

I can’t wait to play more Zero Racers on my day off!

Help with button mapping.

I got the Switch replica to play the games for the first time, since Virtual Boy ain't exactly an easy find in Europe, but the unique controller was not recreated for this release unfortunately.

The controls ain't exactly ideal, but the closest to having the two D-pads was the N64 replica, so I got it.

It's slightly clunky, but it works wonders, Teleroboxer is actually playable now. Only problem now is the select button, the N64 doesn't have it, and the button mapping UI doesn't really show the N64 diagram, so I have no idea how to map that function onto it. The ideal would be using the Z trigger for it I think. Is it possible to have the N64 controller fully work for Virtual Boy?

Bought A Partially Busted VB. What Now?

I bought a Virtual Boy off eBay that seemed to be in perfect working order aside from a small crack in the stand. I got it for ~500 and it came with 8 games so I figured it was a damn good deal. The listing didn’t disclose however that the left eye wasn’t working so now I’m quite upset lol. I think my first order of business is to request/demand a partial refund but after that what do I do? After doing a little research it seems that it MAY be fixable? I don’t have the skill or equipment to do it on my own so I think I’m gonna send it to a place that can fix it. I was just wondering what y’all think I should do or if there were any specific recommendations for a repair? Let me know

Zero Racers (also known as G-Zero) is a cancelled 1996 F-Zero racing game for the Virtual Boy that was to be developed and published by Nintendo. The game was a spin-off of the F-Zero series, not a sequel as originally thought.

The cardboard version is on sale so I caved and got one!

Bit tired and sick right now though so I only played one level in the Wario game so far, looking forward to playing the rest after I'm done with that game. The time spent on that one level was luckily short enough for me to manage right now while needing to rest afterwards.

Hey everyone,

A couple of months ago, I pulled my old Blockbuster Virtual Boy setup out of storage where it’s been sitting for the past 30 years. It’s completely original, unopened, and unmodified, and everything works great (both internal screens are crisp with no horizontal line glitches or flickering).

What’s included:

Hardware & Accessories: Virtual Boy head unit, controller, stand, battery pack, AC adapter, and AC tap adapter.

Case: Original Blockbuster Video hardshell case with the front sticker, inner instruction panel, and original zip-tied laminated rental tag. The internal foam is original, but is starting to degrade due to age.

5 Games (Loose): Wario Land, Mario Clash, Red Alarm, Galactic Pinball, and Mario's Tennis (a few have store rental initials on the labels).

Asking $900 shipped (includes tracked ground shipping, full insurance, and signature confirmation). Payment via PayPal Goods & Services.

Photos are attached showing the console, games, case tags, and the display running. Feel free to comment below or send a message if you're interested!
