Remaster Discussion Any tips on making this alchemy-illusion-dagger trickster build viable? (On remaster)

Upvotes

I’m planning a female Imperial rogue/trickster character, and the six major skills I definitely want are illusion, restoration, alchemy, mercantile, speechcraft and blade. I always play Imperial for roleplaying purposes, and I’m going for a charming rogue who is mainly trying to make money rather than an obviously criminal or super-stealthy character. Basically, I want her to be the kind of person you wouldn’t suspect. I’ll be doing the Thieves Guild and maybe Dark Brotherhood, and I’m planning to wear clothing only. I don’t mind leveling my major skills quickly, which is why I’m fine with having things like alchemy as a major.

For combat, I’m mainly thinking dagger + poisons, with illusion also being a big part of my offense, especially things like frenzy to get enemies to fight each other. The social skills and illusion are also there for manipulating people, getting out of trouble and making money.
I’m not too keen on sneak as a major because I’ve found it pretty weak in previous playthroughs (especially compared to skyrim), with enemies spotting me very easily, but I’m open to it if you think it’s worth taking.

The part I’m stuck on is the seventh major. I did a test run of about an hour and I initially went with acrobatics because I had this image of her running around rooftops, but the more I think about it, the less that fits the “you wouldn’t suspect me” idea. I’m considering hand to hand instead, mostly as a roleplay choice rather than because I expect to use it much, since I’ll probably always have a dagger anyway.

I used the mage birthsign on my test run, with intelligence and luck as my favored attributes. My biggest concern is whether I’m going to deal enough damage. What would you take as the seventh major, and is there anything you’d change to make this build more viable while still keeping the character concept?

Original Question Is there a way to change the amount of skill-ups it takes to level up? (Oldblivion)

Basically I want to try and change the amount of major skill-ups it takes to level from 10 to 20 to halve the maximum level as a stopgap to address the horrid late-game scaling; I don't mind losing out on extra Luck and Personality, and there's no new content after level ~20 anyway.

Original Question Does the version of the original Oblivion on game pass come with the dlc?

I tried the remaster but it runs like shit on my series s so I'm just gonna play the original. Does it include the dlc or do I need to buy it (not too big a problem, only about $17 for the two main dlc's)

Remaster Discussion In your opinion as of right now, are we better off playing the OG(modded) compared to Remastered(modded) what would you recommend for the best experience in 2026?

Remaster Discussion Remastered is great but needs a tweak to make it perfect for me

In my opinion leveling is too fast and a simple solution would be to either add an exp slider or maybe even have the option to turn off leveling from non major skills. I know mods fix this on pc but console players need a solution too.

Another gripe that could be solved by doing the first thing I mentioned is that it’s way too easy to get 100 in multiple stats which quickly makes any +stat gear worthless in the early/mid game.

Original Mod Help Mod that fixes the original dynamic scaling

Heya ! I felt the sudden urge to replay Oblivion (the OG) (don't think my laptop can handle the remaster) but while I want to have a pretty vanilla experience, I'd love to know if there's a mod that overhauls the insufferable dynamic scaling. So : anyone?

Also if you have mod suggestions for an improved vanilla experience, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Remaster Discussion Not round Luck and Personality

Sometimes it is said that Luck works in round numbers only as it its bonus is only 0.4 of its value -50 and it's not an integer if the value is not round. Does the not round Luck realy have no effect in comparison to the round one? Is 62 Luck has totally the same effect as 60 Luck or will there be some imperceptible increase? I know that Luck is useless anyway, but i need to know if not round Luck works in theory. Would it be better to icrease Personality (which is useless too) by 8 than have +2 Luck but it's not round?

Remaster Discussion Switch 2 oblivion thoughts so far.

Got oblivion for the switch a few days ago. It’s honestly not as bad as people make it out to seem. I like it but it DOES have its problems just like how it does on the other consoles. The hitches aren’t rly bad (for me). They don’t happen too much. and the frames don’t drop that as much. What I DONT like is how things in the world just pop up outta nowhere. Like a tree or bush just spawns in right in front of you. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But other than that, it’s not bad. Not saying that the hitches and frame rate dropping aren’t a problem, but it’s just not that bad to me. I’ve been enjoying it. What do yall think ?

Remaster Discussion Oblivion is so effortlessly whimsical.

There’s something about Oblivion Remastered that makes it feel grounded (almost like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2), until you start noticing the finer details or end up talking to a lizard person, an orc, an elf, or an invisible gardener. This is without mentioning the creatures you can find in nature.

Games like Fable or Final Fantasy feel much more overtly cartoony and gamey by comparison. Oblivion somehow presents itself like a serious, grounded world, then the ambience and soundtrack kick in and it becomes pure fantasy.

It genuinely just feels like The Lord of the Rings in video game form (super obvious in parts of the main quest). It’s effortlessly immersive.

If I ever hear him say fearsome mudcrabs again he’s getting bonked. I’ve been neglecting that out of respect. He even crushed my crustacean! We had a crab for each person and that last one was mine! I was gonna name him Mr. Krabs.

Hail citizens. I was trying to see how I could get some local wildlife to follow us and figured I could do it while getting a swim in. You know, since it’s the only way to get clean! Tried having Pally stay still with me and let the crabs kinda mingle onto the screen. This is what happened instead. I like to let the NPC’s kind of make up their own mind. I have no idea why he went down after the crabs but it’s definitely within his character.

Remaster Bug Help Did they fix the Ceyatatar trap door spawn point?

I though the spawn point after using the trapdoor should be right next to the Button to open up the lock room with the boss chest? But I keep spawning in the room behind the wall every time I used the trap door. I've even used the main entrance a few times and use the button a few times already. But once I reset the dungeon and use the trap door. I'm still spawning behind the wall and not next to the button.

Remaster Discussion The single darkest and funniest thing I've done in Oblivion

This was a little while ago when the Oblivion remastered dropped and since I hadn't played before I fell in love immediately. It was a little early on in my playthrough so I didn't have everything down, including combat. I was walking around Blackwood I believe and noticed like three trolls spotted me and knowing I probably couldnt take them at the time I start hauling ass, all through the forests and woods. With the trolls still on my tail I found this little bar shack and thinking I could lose them in there (I was wrong) because I ran inside seeing the patrons in it, and not long after I got in the trolls broke in. I ran upstairs to the lodging rooms and hid, hoping the npcs would gang up on them. All the noises and shouts i knew they were getting slaughtered downstairs. Soon the trolls lost interest and left, I go downstairs and its just alllll bodies. NOT ONE TROLL

Original Discussion How necessary is the UOP for classic Oblivion (the 2009 GOTY Edition Steam)? And to what extent do the unnecessary changes made by the team alter the game experience?

I had never played a TES game before and knew nothing about *Oblivion*, but I decided to give it a try. I have a Nitro V15 (with a 3050 GPU), which causes the game's extremely dated engine to crash—on top of the countless quest-breaking bugs I’d heard about. Personally, I *always* prefer playing vanilla, but it seems Bethesda won't let me; knowing about the bugs and crashes—compounded by the fact that the game is old while my laptop is modern—I saw there were mods designed to fix the engine and bugs, like the famous UOP. I installed the UOP along with two or three mods that just fix the engine, plus the 4GB patch. However, after putting over 60 hours into my save, I discovered the UOP wasn't as purist as I thought; I saw people mentioning various unnecessary changes, though I heard it wasn't as extreme as what they did with *Skyrim*. I’m sharing all this to get to the main point and ask the experienced players here: do the UOP's unnecessary changes actually ruin the game experience? I see people saying "vanilla always," but if you have a newer machine, you're going to suffer more than the people who played it back in the day—you end up dealing with incompatibility issues on top of the native bugs and problems.

It would be cool to start a discussion about this topic on this post; I also plan to explore it in other games (since I intend to start playing Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim).

Original Mod Help Which Mod Manager?

I'm having all sorts of trouble getting mods to work. I started off with Vortex, then someone told me that didn't work for Oblivion. Then I was looking at some old threads and they mentioned Oblivion Mod Manager. Then one of them said Mod Organizer 2 was the way to go. Then someone suggested Wyre Bash. I've tried them all and had problems with them all - mods all of a sudden not loading for no apparent reason.

I'm using the Steam version of Oblivion...what am I doing wrong? Which mod manager should I use? Or should I just manually install them all?

Remaster Discussion Oblivion remake or oblivion modded?

I have collectively put around 7000 hours across Elder Scrolls 3-5. Started with Morrowind as a wee lad. Didn’t get oblivion remake initially but want all of your thoughts on whether or not it’s worth the money or just continue to enjoy the unreal mods the community has made.

Remaster Discussion Highlevel Luck or Willpower with the Atronach

I've made a character with 100% Spell Absorption and 100% Reflect Damage and now I'm going to max my atributes with feldew and then become a vampire to increase them even more. What would be better: 80 Luck when almost all of my skills are already 100, or 120-130 Willpower when I do not need Magica Recovery at all because of the Atronach sign, just a little bit Stamina (I do not need it to sprint because of 100 Athletics and I almost do not need it to fight because I use spells). Both of the opportunities are useless but I need to make a choice

Self-Promotion OBVR — native VR for the original Oblivion (2006). Looking for beta testers.

This is not the Remastered edition and not a mod for it. It's an OBSE plugin for the original 2006 game that puts real VR into the game's rendering. The idea for now is: Oblivion stays Oblivion — no gameplay replacement, no reimagined combat. Same game, just in a headset.

Why 2006 and not Remastered? Well... It's just my fav game of all time and also... mods... beautiful mods that Remastered doesn't have.

OBVR has been developed and tested by exactly one person on exactly one headset. That's the reason for this post.

What works

- Real stereo 3D. The world is rendered twice per frame, once per eye. Not one image shown to both eyes (like Luke Ross mods). (If you like AER you can enable that though...)

- Hyper Stereo build in (similar to PrimaShocks 3D Boost mod but built in not modded and without the visual artifacts)

- 6DoF head tracking. Look around, lean, duck, stand up. The vanilla camera is multiplied by the HMD rotation rather than replaced.

- Native headset resolution and FOV. The game renders into eye-sized targets and the frustum is taken from the headset, so you don't get a 16:9 monitor image cropped into your face.

- HUD and menus in the headset, either on a cinema screen or floating in the world.

- Its own settings menu inside VR — ~50 settings, arrow keys, changes persist to the INI. No taking the headset off to edit a file. Not all settings work atm.

- Vertical look moved off the mouse onto your head, which is the single biggest comfort win.

- Gaze-based aiming. Arrows and spells go where you look, not where the mouse points, while your walking direction stays under mouse/gamepad control. The bow visually follows your gaze while you draw (Luke Ross style VR).

- Crosshair at the right depth, so it fuses into one instead of doubling.

- Dialogue zoom removed, persuasion minigame works, works with and without the 4GB patch, works under Mod Organizer 2.

What does NOT work YET — please read this before installing

- No motion controllers. No hand tracking. No room-scale movement. You play with mouse + keyboard or a gamepad, seated or standing in place. This is a "the game is in VR" mod, not a "reach out and grab things" mod YET. If that's what you want NOW, this isn't it FOR NOW. POSSIBLY LATER THOUGH.

- A known hang. Occasionally freezes the game. It has happened three times, it's not reproducible on demand, and the cause isn't found yet. Diagnostics are built in and this is one of the things I most want testers for.

- No D3D9 device-loss handling. Alt-tabbing or changing resolution may take the game down. Untested territory.

- Rare NPC glitches — an NPC snapping away during cutscene dialogue, and very rarely all NPCs collapsing into a pile. Cosmetic, rare, unfixed.

- SteamVR/OpenVR only. No OpenXR yet (Oblivion is 32-bit, which rules out most OpenXR runtimes).

- Windows only for now. Linux is the eventual goal.

- Tested on one headset (Pimax Dream Air) and one GPU (RTX 4090). Everything about how it behaves on anything else is genuinely unknown. That is the main thing I'm asking for.

Requirements

- The original Oblivion, 1.2.0.416 (Steam/GOG version, not Remastered)

- xOBSE 22.13

- DXVK

- SteamVR running

What I'm asking for

Mostly: does it start, and what does it look like on hardware that isn't mine? Specifically —

  1. Does it launch and reach the headset at all on your HMD?
  2. Is the scale right? Do people look human-sized?
  3. Comfort — anything that makes you queasy, and what you were doing at the time.
  4. If it hangs or crashes, OBVR.log and OBVR.log.prev next to Oblivion.exe. The .prev survives a restart and is usually the useful one.

Frame rate reports are welcome but expect a small hit: the world is rendered twice at full headset resolution.

Happy to answer anything.

And yes eventually I want to make this not just a VR mod but a VR port with swords, shields, bows, magic and grabbing stuff all in VR.

DM me if you want to try the mod and give feedback.
