Photo not mine. I recently visited Clint's Reptile room and didn't expect to, but absolutely fell in love with his super dwarf retics. They were the most amazing handling experience I've ever had. I have a corn snake (and some legged lizards) that I love now but am interested in expanding my collection and my eye is definitely on one of these beauties. It's easy to find people who love them, but are there any dissenters out there? Anyone find them to not be what you wanted? I will admit, I do wish they were a tiny bit heavier bodied. I suspect it may be a slightly more intelligent corn snake experience for a while as they grow slowly. Thoughts?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice regarding my late father’s shovel-nosed snakes.

I’m currently visiting my family here in AZ and have been taking care of his snakes while I’m here. I’ve noticed that one of them in particular is extremely skinny and is currently in the middle of shedding.

I took him out briefly, gave him some water, and let him rest on me for a little while to warm up. He seemed to look a bit better afterward, but he still isn’t moving around much in his enclosure and hasn’t shown any interest in the crickets that are in there.

I know shovel-nosed snakes have a limited lifespan, and my dad has had these little guys since at least 2019, so I’m wondering if this could simply be old age. At the same time, I’m worried that there may be something else going on, especially because he’s so skinny and seems unusually lethargic.

I’m not very experienced with caring for these snakes, so I really don’t know what the best thing to do is. It’s honestly pretty gut-wrenching to see this little guy struggling because these snakes are one of the few things I have left that remind me of my dad.

Does anyone have experience with shovel-nosed snakes or have any suggestions for what I should do for him?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ❤️

I recently acquired a speckled kingsnake, she's 6 grams and she's so tiny that I can't even feed her whole pinkies, I cut the heads and back ends off and feed to her, the mid section is too big for her to swallow (I feed frozen thawed to all my snakes). She's eaten both I think twice now? Maybe three times? And one time she didn't eat the back half. The point of this is how often am I supposed to be feeding her (pic is from when I first got her)

I have a roughly 9 month old mbk and i had issues with him glass surfing so i added new decor and tried to clutter it abit more his warm side is 32degrees and the cool side is 24 so i figured it was likely a lack of hiding spaces this is what im working with now I’ve brought more wood and plants

He's doing great! He's eating and pooping consistently and clearly has no issues getting around. I'm having a herpetologist take a look at him on Friday to get his opinion on the scale mutation, but no x-rays yet. Hoping to find a vet who will do them for a reduced cost cause when I had to have a different snake x-rayed it was like $300 oof.

He's doing great! He ate his second meal yesterday, which is more than can be said for the rest of his siblings lol. No issues with movement or anything - he acts just like a regular lil hognose. I'm going to take him to the next herpetology society meeting to have an experienced herpetologist take a closer look at him.

There was only soap on it for around 20 seconds, besides some residual bubbles which was sprayed off, it's been sprayed and rinsed a ton and doesn't smell like soap. Can I use it or do I toss it? Its for a boa imperator terrarium

My 11.5 year old sister has been obsessed with snakes FOREVER. She's autistic and this is her passion. She had snakes plastered all over her room, she asks for a snake for every birthday.

My mom almost got her one for her last birthday, but it wasn't very well planned. The snake was full grown and a little pricey, and we ultimately decided 11 was a little young to handle the care for a snake that large.

I told her that I love that she's so passionate about snakes, but that she's a bit young and I wanted her to do more research and improve on her reading so she could read about snake care and know what to do if it got sick.

She decided, on her own accord, to start saving for a snake and writing down all the expenses to calculate a cost. We talked about the price of different species and she discussed getting a milk snake for a while, but she really wants a ball python. She had me write down a list of morphs that she's interested in (her og is a pastel banana). She has around $150 saved from doing chores.

Money is pretty tight right now, but obviously this is super impressive for an 11 year old. Is there anything I can do to help her get started? I know enough about pythons to advise her to stay away from spider morphs, but I don't know where you would go for a cheap enclosure or anything like that.

And yes, I jumped when I almost stepped on it. Unfortunately, I missed the owner of the skin by a few minutes, otherwise the picture would have been more than mildly interesting. Black snakes eat rats and mice, so he or she is a very welcome guest on my rock farm.

I'm considering switching my snakes over to heat panels and light strips to a) get better heating control and b) make their stacked tanks a little shorter by getting rid of the lamp spacer in between. I'm fine with a larger up front cost, my main concern is if this would be substantially more expensive to run long term?

Basically if I swapped out my 2 current lamps (both 100 w basking lights) and one ceramic heater i use on colder days/nights for 2 heat panels and 2 light strips,​ would this cost more on my monthly utility bill to run? Just curious what y'alls experience is
