Can I get serious help from my mental illness?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  3d ago

I dont know if this was a typo or not. Did you mean to say from instead of for?

Ex.. How do you think your mental illness might be helping you?

Or.. Did you mean getting help to treat your mental illness?

Alcohol tag (UK)
 in  r/alcohol  3d ago

Everyone with a severe addiction I've ever met has a brain that tells them the equivalent of:

"Shit.. my microwave caught on fire and burned half the kitchen. It seriously could've been so much worse which is kinda scary honestly. You know what I should do? BURN MY HOUSE TO THE GROUND!!"

Recognizing this and learning not to listen to that is a necessary part of recovery.

How bad do your period cramps get sometimes?
 in  r/AskWomen  3d ago

Most of my period there's no pain.

In the first couple days I sometimes get cramps, but Tylenol erases most of those and the few I still have are manageable with an occasional pause and a couple deep breaths.

I used to get extremely painful period cramps and they found an ovarian tumor. Since the surgey to remove it my cramps have never been like that again.

worst financial decisions ever😭
 in  r/bipolar  6d ago

I'm in a similar boat. Money was already tight but during my last manic episode a couple months ago, I didnt pay my bills for a month and took out several small-ish loans.

Now I cant afford to make my usual bill payments, the back payments, the late fees, and the new loan payments -- & its snowballing.

I spent years getting my credit up and taking pride in my honesty and honor with financial promises. I don't think I'll ever pay all of this off.

How do you not panic when your mood goes up?
 in  r/bipolar  6d ago

I'm glad you're seeing your doctor soon. Yeah, any kind of "shock" to the system has the potential to trigger an episode. Not sleeping is the most common.

& Yes, its very common for people to need more than one type of medication. But everyone is different. Your psychiatrist will have to work out your specific treatment. We're not allowed to make medication recommendations here.

I hate this so much..
 in  r/Christianity  7d ago

Having an emotion or basic biological response isn't a sin... It's what you choose to do with that.

Remember: sins are choices - and you're only going to be judged based on your own.

Lust is choosing to ruminate on these thoughts and feelings. Or give in to lustful behaviors.

& Yes, it's extremely messed up how tempting western society has gotten in this area.

Being upset at that is natural and even good... but often the demonic stirs those flames of anger to distract us from our own responsibility.. Which is our own virtue first, including humility, trusting in God, and forgiving others.

Pray for them.

I am struggling to leave a toxic friend
 in  r/Advice  7d ago

It's a tough reality we learn usually in our early adulthood that love isnt enough to maintain a relationship and someone trying their best isnt enough to offset abusive behavior.

The "why" he does these things is a question for him to ask himself to work on his own issues and maybe bring to professional if needed.

At the end of the day, someone destroying your psyche can be just as damaging as someone abusing you physically.

You are responsible for your own safety and health. No one else can take on that responsibility for you & you cant do it for someone else in no matter how much you want to.

You have to learn to prioritize what people are doing to you over why. & I know how unfair that feels.

Your mind and heart can only take so much abuse without severe damage, just like your body can only take so much abuse without severe damage.

That sadly doesn't actually change whether his behavior is his fault. It feels like it should, but it can't because you're only human. You have limits whether you want to or not... Wanting to carry someone's issues - especially when theyre severe like this - doesn't mean you can.

Which you'll accept at some point ... The only question really is how badly damaged you're going to let yourself get before you walk away.

A lot of people stay until they completely break and literally have no choice but to leave. Hopefully you're able to learn this really shitty life lesson with minimal damage.

I'm genuinely sorry that's the way it works..

How do you not panic when your mood goes up?
 in  r/bipolar  7d ago

I call my psychiatrist for an emergency appt.

You're mood is going the wrong direction. That can be caused by the wrong medicine for you or you might need something else added.

One of the most dangerous lies Bipolar likes to tell us is the various reasons we shouldn't report the mood changes to the psychiatrist yet.

The only way to stop a manic &/or psychotic episode from getting completely out of control is to address it quickly. Dont assume what the psychiatrist will say. Dont think it through.

Just do it.

Also, do your best to stick to a routine - especially with sleep and eating. Losing sleep can trigger a manic episode..

Why do some people with children try to convince child-free people to have kids?
 in  r/askteddit  7d ago

Maybe technically, but there are definitely regional differences in speaking.

I've only heard child-free or "doesn't/don't have children ". I can't remember ever hearing "They're childless". So, it sounds odd to me.

There's not always an agenda behind different phrases.

I had to stop talking with my only friend because they're pro-choice

It sounds like this is someone you care about more than friends.

I definitely understand if this relationship is potentially headed somewhere romantic wanting to end things before it goes any further and just gets more difficult.

Feeling like a Martha married to a Mary
 in  r/CatholicWomen  8d ago

I'm really sorry you were abused like that.

She wants to know how to help this problem though. And completely clear communication is 100% necessary for that to happen. This entire post is a list of stuffed down feelings and ideas.

They cant reconnect without putting out the pieces and moments of disconnection and hurt.

Advice to hide what she feels, fake a smile, and continue to feel cornered into sex because she doesn't feel seen and heard enough to have the mental and emotional intimacy for physical intimacy with a spouse to be a shared expression of love....

You're telling her the relationship is hopeless and to give up.

I don't think she wants to to that nor should she without trying what she can.

Having trouble attending OCIA.
 in  r/Catholicism  9d ago

Because of my health issues I had to miss a lot of the classes.

It's a little ironic that in a big way you're refusing the teaching authority and mercy of the church and specifically choosing not to follow Jesus through the sacraments & becoming Catholic if you cant do it in the way you choose?

I mean this with the utmost love and respect. I don't know how exactly you're thinking feeling - or your personality. & God knows I'm far from perfect & also struggle putting Gods ways today over my ideas of how things should change to be first.

Maybe the first step is to pray for the humility to stop telling God its your way or the highway? God's got important things for you to do and you're just refusing.

You should consider that maybe God's just not going to let you do this your way. You keep trying again and God keeps giving you the same path... You're assuming it's going to be different one of the next 3 times.

How many times will it take before you get off the fence and let yourself become Catholic exactly where you are in life?

My parents are convinced I have a eating disorder, but idk how to prove them wrong.
 in  r/mentalhealth  9d ago

Im a little confused then, because your post you said when you try to eat, it tastes bland and you're not hungry so eating is forced and unpleasant during those times?

1

My parents are convinced I have a eating disorder, but idk how to prove them wrong.
 in  r/mentalhealth  9d ago

Eating disorders are more than eating strangely. They're mental illnesses for a reason and have their own diagnostic criteria.

Its not surprising that you're going to be hungry again and eat large amounts of food after a while of not being able to eat. That's your body trying to maintain homeostasis.

Imo, the question really should be what's causing you to lose your appetite for weeks at a time?

You need to see a doctor about that.

The implication that if you want to get rid of societal problems, you must also want humans to be killed
 in  r/prolife  9d ago

People have too much faith in it. Every contraceptive includes information about how effective it is with perfect use & none are 100%.

I was concieved on birth control.

Even 95% efficacy still means 1/40 will get pregnant with perfect use. People are playing a type of lottery without thinking about it.

Its even been normalized to expect sex with people they would never consider raising a family with.

Naturally people are completely shocked and mentally unprepared when the enevitable happens. They react like pregnancy just happens to people and like sex isn't literally procreation. This world view is at least partially because contraception is treated as a guarantee.. sadly, even among pro-life circles.

Sick and tired of it / vent
 in  r/prolife  9d ago

It's ok if you need to take a break. You're not alone. The world is not on your shoulders.

I learned today that a big reason why ancient Romans won so many battles is that they created staggered gaps in their front lines requiring soldiers who got tired on the front lines to go to the back... Creating a constant circulation of fresh energized people and people getting a bit of rest to regain their strength.

Groups who tried to fight them with unbroken lines of soldiers lost because of pure exhaustion. Despite appearances, leaving gaps in their lines of soldiers to allow soldiers to move to the back & rest as much as possible when tired -- won out over and over against those who would just fight line after line of soldiers until they collapsed.

The world doesn't need you personally to fight every battle... And working yourself to exaustion doesn't help anyone.

Take a break. Rest. Come back when your energy, hope, patience, and love for pro-choice people has replenished.

Opinion: The Lindsay Clancy case was always the natural progression of pro-choice rhetoric!
 in  r/prolife  10d ago

My question is why do you think legitimately psychotic people who didn't know what they were doing also shouldn't have the option of this defense?

Specifically since you specified your concern ISNT that guilty people would use this defense to avoid prison.

(Noting: those deemed "not guilty by reason of insanity" are sent to a locked forensic psychiatric unit with other defendants deemed "criminally insane" to be drugged and restrained into compliance - most often for longer than their prison sentence would have been or the rest of their lives)

Quoting you:

"my concern isn't that guilty people might use the defense to successfully avoid prison (they have, and continue to will).

my view is that such defense shouldn't be available at all, even if the perpetrator might be legitimately insane."

What is something that really ages people more than they want to admit?
 in  r/Aging  10d ago

Stress, depression, anger, judgement

Your emotional state will etch into your face and it happens more dramatically than you think ... Like decades of stress were cutting their way through from deep beneath. Then you get a permanent scowl almost overnight with lines between your brows and around your mouth in a way that doesn't look happy. And thats just your face now.

And.it kind of snowballs because the world isnt as kind to angry negative people.

People who smile and laugh and have a genuinely positive attitude grow laugh lines around their eyes and then some forehead wrinkles from raised animalted brows when talking and listening happily .. and smile lines that look happy.

You're going to age.

Age well.

 in  r/prolife  10d ago

People argue all kinds of things in their attempts to avoid prison...

It doesnt mean those arguments or laws are unjust in themselves simply because some guilty people try to use them in their defense.

Thats the entire reason trials exist To distinguish if a persons arguments for their innocence are reasonable.

I doubt you have much experience with psychosis or the legal system if you think anyone can just say a sentence like that and avoid prison.
