Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

My cat just had all her back teeth removed due to FCGS, and she seems so much happier and cuddly because of it. Didn’t realize she was in so much pain before💔

the second she knows there’s broccoli in the house, she starts plotting. there is no limit to what she will do to get her grubby little paws all over it. she’s relentless.

we’ll unpack the groceries and can have steak, sausages, chicken, cheese etc. laying all on the counter, but you can guarantee she’ll be ripping into the damn broccoli…

does anyone else have an idiot with a totally random food obsession?

Mourning/Loss Stella has crossed the rainbow bridge this morning

Stella, our “bathroom cat” rescue. She was 18 years old when she passed peacefully in her sleep this morning. She’s been slowing down a lot the past few days and last night she stopped eating and drinking and didn’t want to leave anyone’s side. I knew in my heart it was her time to go. We sat beside her and pet her and told her how much we loved her as she peacefully fell asleep.

I won’t focus on her past because that’s not fair to her spunky sweet self. She was rescued from living in a bathroom for most of her life to coming to live with us. She was extremely matted and a very kind redditor paid for us to take her to the vet to get them all removed. She hated it and hated the vets lol.

She has lived with us and has been given so much love. She loves being snuggled, held, and kissed on her forehead. She LOVES water. She would often climb into the shower with us. She would stick her whole head under the faucet and drink water, our silly old lady. She would put her head on your leg and just stand there staring at you until you picked her up and held her. All she wanted was love 24/7 and I’m so happy she got to have that.

We may have only had her for a couple months, but everyone loved her. I’m so glad she got to spend the last of her days in a home out of a bathroom with a family that did everything they could for her. I wish she had a better life before coming to us. She will be so greatly missed as her little self made such a big impact on our family.

We loved you so so much, Stell bell.

Shaking, cold, on wet pavement and covered in fleas and ear mites.

I was able to secure it (with the help of treats of course) Fast towards 2 days; I found out it’s a girl! A female orange tabby! How rare 🥹 She is skin and bones, she cannot be older than 2 months. She has the loudest purr I have ever heard and makes biscuits faster than she can handle.

I have contacted a rescue who is going to take great care of her - she will be with other kittens and have constant supervision! She’s so vocal and I’m so happy she is going to thrive in her new life, no more cold pavement 🩷

Here’s a picture of when I found her vs when I brought her home! I hope you have the best life my girl! So happy we crossed paths!

Mourning/Loss Few days ago i had to say goodbye to my best female friend

Her name is Misha born on 10th of April 2015 and died 30th of August 2026. It happened just two weeks ago that I noticed her left eye doing weird a smaller pupil and third eye lid coming out. Went to the vet and she had Horner's Syndrome so i got medicine and eye droplets. I thought it went better and it took a dark turn on thursday..by sunday she was laying under the couch not moving anymore and doing loud mauws. I pulled her under from the couch and I did notice in the those last few days she didn't eat, drink water, eat treats, vomiting just slime. I went to the vet hospital and it was confirmed she had tumors for a longtime in her belly. A few popped and that caused everything to shutdown.

In the end I gave her anaesthesia to end her pain and suffering. She was already very weak so it was over in less than 2 minutes, she went to a deep sleep very fast her little heart and breathing stopped. I kissed her and gave her one last cuddle before i said goodbye.

She was loved by me for all these years, long cuddles, a real diva she was gave her kisses and sleeping with me every night and helped me through some though years. She was my first cat when i went to live on my own. She like a minimal of people she didn't like parents or any other person since i was her person.

I miss her so much and it has been hard cleaning up in my home when there is no presence anymore.

It's hard to say goodbye to someone who has been with you with a big part of your life.

Medical Questions Do I have an odd duck or should I be concerned?

Hello everyone! I brought my new baby home from her foster mom’s house yesterday and realized she was doing this odd behavior (seen in video). It almost looks like what male cats do when the spray. She seems to do it when she gets really excited. Overall, she is playful, happy and social! I’m just if I have an odd duck or if this may be a medical issue? Thanks in advance!!

Cat Picture - OC Crouton 3 months vs 10 months

Meet baby Crouton. She came into my life as a sick and underweight kitten. Today she reached 4kg! She is a fighter, and has grown into such a well behaved little kitty.

Edit: I would like to add she has never done a single thing wrong in her life, unlike her orange brother who just caused the evacuation of the house due to dropping the world's worst deuce during dinner prep.

Also crouts is just a domestic medium hair (blue smoke tortie), brought into the shelter as a stray. She was not ready for adoption, but we're in an overpopulation crisis, and at least she was given a chance to find a home. Please do support your local shelter if you can.

Cat Picture - OC Prayers for Gigi

Thumbnail

7.6k Upvotes

At some point yesterday, Gigi ingested a bunch of vitamin D supplements after the bottle fell on the floor behind a night stand and the broken top popped open. We didn’t even know about it until late last night. She had started vomiting earlier, then she stopped eating, and appeared lethargic around the time she should be running through the hallway getting tangled up in the sheets as we attempt to make the bed.

I took her to the emergency vet late last night where they confirmed around 3AM that she needed to be hospitalized due to hypercalcemia caused by the vitamin D toxicity.

This afternoon, the vet called back to update us: her calcium score is worsening, so we approved their use of a more aggressive (and expensive) drug therapy. Hopefully she’ll improve tomorrow, but the vet warned us that it could be a real rollercoaster. An expensive roller coaster with an uncertain outcome.

(Edited to comply with rules)

Needless to say, after rescuing this cat off the street and deeply bonding with her over the last year, I’m ready to do what I can to save her. However, there now exists a possibility where I may not be able to afford to save her.

We are really worried about Gigi. Hopefully, we get some good news tomorrow. We can only take it one day at a time. I’m really hoping we don’t have to say goodbye to our little screaming chaos goblin. It’s hard wrestling with the possibility that she can be saved, but I won’t be able to afford to save her.

Hug your fur kids, tell them that you love them, and treasure every moment with them.

***

EDIT (9/1, 9AM EDT): Firstly, thank you all so much for your support! I’m truly touched by the outpouring of support for our Gigi!

Secondly, we are awaiting her new results from the new treatment. I will update once we know more.

Thank you all, so much!

EDIT (9/1, 12PM): I was able to visit her for a brief moment before work today. She was clearly happy to see me. It sounds like she’s a bit down being there and not eating very much.
She perked up for me, was very affectionate, and ate some Churu much to the vet tech’s delight.
I plan on visiting her again after work to try and get her to eat some more.
