Needs some thoughts about this (urgent)

F57, weight 230lbs. This is one of my closest family member & was wondering to get a couple set of eyes to look into this, as you see there is a droop right there with a bunch of lumps, she has this unknown bump in her skin and it’s very questionable to the both of us, we checked a couple of breast exams, they say nothing is wrong but she has been in pain since mid to late May of this year, her back being hurt is also apart of the problem which I believe was possibly caused by an accident from early Dec 2025 the lumps are also on her other side of her bulge, her armpit on this side also have a long vein from her pits going up to her forearm as well, she mentions that it never been there before, it could also be a glucose situation for her because she does have diabetes but i doubt it’s the main thing causing her body such way. Again, looking for some thoughts into this and anything is helpful.

How bad is vaping (legal) pot for an elderly person? (50F, healthy BMI, active, non-cigarette smoker, non-drinker)

I recently discovered legal pot that has been helping my arthritis and mood, how bad is it for me? I read online that it can cause strokes or heart attacks, but it really helps me feel better. I smoke once or twice an evening, and that's all. No alcohol or other drugs.

Is it really that dangerous? Is taking edibles better for me?

Thank you for letting me know!

Physician Responded I've been reading in the news about vestigial structures on or around the uterus that they're now finding have functions. What does that mean for a hysterectomy?

57f, have been told I will get cancer if I don't have a hysterectomy, after hysteroscopy two months ago.

I'm thinking of the epoophoron; the immune functions of the ovaries after menopause, and the female equivalent of the prostate. My doctor has said she'll give me hormones "if I think I need them" but what about all this other stuff?

Palliative Question

AFAB, 5'8 193lbs, smoker trying to quit, on palliative care for intractable epilepsy with refractory status epilepticus and Wernicke's Encephalopathy.

I was looking over my most recent provider note and she said my palliative score or PPS was 40. What exactly does that mean? Its still a little while before I see my palliative doctor again, but its making it hard to sleep because Google is making it sound scary and I am maybe looking for reassurance or understanding?

I am mostly bed bound at this point on high/max doses of my seizure meds (Lacosamide 20mls 2x day through jtube, zonisade 100mg morning and night and 50 mg at noon through j tube). I am also on morphine 30mg 2x day, Klonopin 2x day, oxycodone 10-15mg every 4 hours, 250mg thiamine 2x day, and a few other meds that I cant think of off the top of my head but tbose are the important ones plus my formula feed and flushes through the j tube. I eat maybe every 2-3 by mouth but have trouble swallowing and get sick whenever I eat and my main source of hydration is through my flushes.

I cant walk due to weakness and ataxia from the Wernicke's Encephalopathy which was originally misdiagnosed as FND and almost killed me and last week I had an hour long seizure and coded in the ambulance. I have been intubated 4 times with the longest being 9 days just since last December. I have recently starting having a lot of accidents as well, not being able to make it to the toilet in time or not knowing I had to pee until I am literally peeing in my pants.

I went from working my dream job to not being able to really do anything now except sit at home and do school work (which is already taking a toll but I am determined) and sleeping most of the day. I try to play with my daughter and do normal things but that takes so much out of me.

So what does it mean when she says I have a PPS of 40? Is that bad? Im honestly kind of freaked out. Thanks in advance.

Physician Responded Did I completely butcher my swab test 22M

Upvotes

So today I was supposed to get swab tested for diarrhea and I think I messed up big time. I took the swab and for some reason impulsively dabbed the tip in the black stuff on the bottom (I was under the impression that it's just a black strip on the vile so the doctors don't have to see the poo stained swab and I think I wanted to see the vile and the cap click) after which I panicked because oh my god there's unknown sticky stuff on the swab. So tried drying it on a peace of paper the doc gave me to clean myself (guess they didn't have toilet paper) after which I just swabbed myself, put it in the vile so they can't tell I put it in before I was supposed to and acted like nothing happened good "hope I didn't mess up by putting it already in".

It only dawned on me that I probably contaminated the test. Tomorrow my resoluts are supposed to come in and now I'm scared that I'll be in trouble, even more so because my dad is engaged to the nurse so they know me there.

How big of an issue is this? What should I do? I don't want trouble

Is this abnormal behavioral development for my age?, I’m 14 years old, and a female.

first of all I know this sub is mainly for physical issues, but I just wanna give it a try here.

I’m concerned with my behavioral development if you couldn’t already tell. I would be completely honest, though. There’s somethings I don’t take full responsibility for, and honestly? I don’t really want to change unless it benefits me in a way I like. No I’m not trying to sound ”corny”. People like me exist irl.

if I don’t mention I stopped certain behaviors, then assume that I continued to and still actively participating in those behaviors. I also have a diagnosis of major depressive disorder And I was hospitalized a few months ago in February. I have experienced some traumatizing experiences too.

My behavioral issues I believe started when I was 5-7, although I don’t think they matter much since I was really young. At those ages I started to physically fight with my brother regularly, I smashed snails at recess, and I remember vandalizing a car once. But I didn’t vandalize or when I was 8-9 years old I started to lie more frequently and make fun of others(usually indirectly). When I was 10-11 years old I started to vandalize and sometimes destroying the property of others.

But during my recent years (12 and 14), I think my behaviors got put up a couple of notches due to my mental health deteriorating. i don’t want to get into details about it, but i ended up getting sent to the pysch ward.

the worst of the Things I have done was within the last couple of months, I wrapped a cord around one of my peers’ neck for a second before I let go. I didn’t want to choke him or get into trouble, but it’s still strangulation behavior according to my school teachers. I got into trouble for it. I was scared I’ll get a felony so I ended up lying my ass off about what happened so I could look innocent. I didn’t change a bunch of things but i did lie about my intention to place the cord around his chest. I don’t remember how much guilt I felt about it, but it was probably way less then I should have because I got over it pretty fast when I realized my friend wasn’t going to treat me any differently for it.

I think I lack guilt, like I could vandalize, destroy someone’s property, say extremely cruel things, etc to someone as long as I think they deserve it. But if they’re some random old lady, I’ll feel guilty.

Anyways, I do and don’t want to get help at the same time. If I do get help, I wouldn’t be at risk for adverse outcomes and I’ll lower my chances of ending up doing something that I will horribly regret. yet, I also feel weak for feeling empathy. And I think that could prevent me from getting help. What also stopping me from getting help is the fact I’ll get into trouble with my parents which I don’t want to happen lol.

ever since experiencing traumatic shit at my school. I been feeling this way. and I can’t lie I also can’t feel the gravity of this situation. it’s normal flr me, and if you hear a causal tone in this post and that makes you upset. I just want to let you know that is an outcome of the shit i experienced. and no I’m not trying to make excuses and excuse. that’s dumb. but literally, if I can’t feel it, how could I think, and act in the way I am supposed to? I shouldn’t be held to the same standard as someone who can.

sure, I shouldn’t have done the shit I did. But some of the things I did came from a feeling of anger, injustice, and vindictiveness. The school barely helped me when I needed it, so why should I help the system that doesn’t help me? I’m not trying to trauma dump, I’m trying to reason with y’all.

no I am not evil, or a fucking bitch. evil people dont want change. I do. and just a reminder, you could have ended up just like me. You just didnt experience certain things, and your mind didn’t react in a certain way.

Sorry if this isnt the topic for r/askdocs, but I am in search for an answer.

Physician Responded Breastbone protruding?

Post image

My chest has a weird protrusion I feel like. From the collarbones down to my mid chest area? Is it normal for it to stick out and show like this? I noticed it about a week ago. (I’m 115lbs, 5’3”, Female.)

I take Sertraline for anxiety and metformin for PCOS. I did lose about ten pounds recently. Not sure if that helps or not.

Physician Responded What could be causing my extreme eye asymmetry?

Post image
0 Upvotes

F 25, 5'5, 105lbs, no meds, severe myopia (-18) astigmatism and BVD in only one eye, no other medical issues.

I've noticed it in my childhood pictures as well, as early as 4-5 years old. It almost looks as if the bigger eye bulges or sits more forward than the other one. It doesn't seem like ptosis or an eyelid thing? Although it does look a bit like the lower lid could be slightly retracted. I am extremely insecure.

I'm aware myopia causes axial elongation which could make the eye sit more forward but despite my high diopter, i'm not sure if that's what's causing my asymmetry.

POTS advice?

Post image
0 Upvotes

just wanted to show this photo and see if anyone else with pots has this bad of blood flow and what they do to manage it? i was having an episode of symptoms and put my legs up on the wall like google recommends pff, i felt all the blood pouring down my legs and instantly my legs went so pale. put my legs back down and they felt on fire and were super red, obviously ik this is showing bad blood flow but curious what advice anyone may have? i also will get racing heartbeat, fatigue, headaches, nausea, upset stomach, etc. when it first happened i went to the urgent care where they determined all blood work normal and EKG normal, when i asked about POTS he said it would make a lot of sense, i never had these issues before-but i am recovering from a neck/back injury which led me to be bed bound alot more and not very active, i got on Gabapentin for nerve pain and it gave me a 2 week period( crazy i know ) at the end of the period is when these symptoms started happening, i started taking care of myself like someone who has POTS and saw a big difference, just started my period again and having the worst flare up today of POTS symptoms, also didn’t eat the best which might add to it. anyway, going to see a cardiologist but it’ll be a while, anyone have advice :/

Need urgent advice with SLAP Tear

M21, 1.70
Do I necessarily have to get a SLAP repair? I have a type 3 tear. I am afraid of long term consequences.
It only hurts in certain positions, can PT fox that?
FYI I do have strong scapular muscles and especially developed inner shoulder muscles.

Tomorrow they wanna take the samples and the surgery would be next week. But I am still afraid. Thing is, anything overhead stings a bit. But I just wanna be able to gym again.

Advice?

Physician Responded Rabies cost. 53 My

53M. 6ft 205lbs. Gabapentin for meds. Smoker, skyrizi for my psoriasis.

I have a bat in my house for over a week so I went and got the rabies vaccine just in case I get bit cuz I can't find the sucker.

I had a series of 6 shots just now and have to go back for 3 more.

One of the six shots was a tetanus shot tho.

But they told me I would be responsible for the cost if insurance doesn't cover it which it probably won't. But it was $5964. That seems outrageous. Am I getting scammed here? Why is it so darn expensive.

I realize it's optional but I also don't want to get rabies and die.

So any doctors out there, does this seem normal to you?

30F MRI: Do you see loss of grey matter?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Is this something that could have been missed upon initial review? Or could this just be an error in the scan? Or am I seeing things?

I have experienced years of unexplained painful headaches felt at the top of my head. As of recently I’ve felt they were progressing and other symptoms arising as well and so the doctor ordered an MRI. The initial results came back clean with only mention of a developmental venous anomaly in the left hemisphere. Is this something I should ask to have reevaluated? I also have 2 other photos from different angles that show this same pattern. What are our thoughts…

Other details about me:
Height: 5’ 4”
Weight: 140
Medications: None
Other conditions: None
Symptoms: Regular and chronic aches mostly at the top of my head. Occasional episodes of painful “brain freezes”. Difficulty concentrating. Frequent forgetfulness. Increased stuttering. Anomia and aphasia-like symptoms.

Overall I’m a healthy 30F. I try my absolute hardest to take care of myself: eating right, weight training and cardio, and try to mentally stimulate myself with new and different activities: reading, painting, chess, etc. I feel like if there’s nothing wrong with me, then I shouldn’t be experiencing these symptoms given my lifestyle choices. What are your thoughts?

Ruining a month of recovery with one day of fun? (30M)

I've spent the last month recovering an inflammed left foot (synovitis) via rest, ibuprofen, ice baths, and prescribed naproxen. and last week, inflammation was nearly completely gone, minimal pain, and felt good enough to walk for the day for a local convention (spent about 5 hours in total walking/standing).

The day after, the inflammation came back, and got worse the day after, and while not as bad as the first time, it felt like I wasted the month.

Dunno how I'm gonna explain this at work. I visited a physio and said the recovery could take another 6 weeks.

Weird skin condition doctors have misdiagnosed for years

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m 20, about 125 and male and I’ve had this weird rash that comes and goes, thought it was tinea versicolor because for the longest time it wouldn’t itch or anything, I took a yeast infection medication for it and it did seem to help but about two three months later it’s back. Hydrocortisone irritates it, been given ringworm medication, only irritated it, I genuinely don’t know what it could be, I’ve had it for about 3-4 years now and now it’s starting to get to a point my whole back feels kind of glossy/velvety and peels just a little bit, mostly localized to my shoulders but goes down my back and stomach and up my neck

And no the hickey is not what I’m talking about

I am a healthy individual, but I get ill every 2 weeks and it’s thing my life. Pls help

I am always ill with a virus/bacterial infection and it is literally ruining my life.
I am 20 years old I should be at the peak of my health but i am in constant physical pain and I feel systematically unwell every week. To be honest I genuinely haven’t felt healthy since 2023.

I don’t understand what is wrong with me or why this is happening to me, I eat healthy, I go to the gym regularly, I don’t smoke or drink and I wouldn’t say I’m stressed either. Yet for some reason I just keep taking hit after hit.

For the past 18 months I have been coming down with a viral illness every 6 weeks - fatigue, headache, body aches, stuffy nose, etc.
literally every 6 weeks like clockwork I would catch a virus.

Then for some reason my health just got worse and worse and about 6 months ago and I started getting serious bacterial throat infections, not strep but another bacterial infection that would not go away. I have been on 8 courses of antibiotics and had 3 hospital visits with iv antibiotics each time.

In between these bouts of tonsillitis I would also be catching colds and viruses, so much so that I would genuinely be coming down with a virus every 2 weeks.

As I am writing this I am coming down with something again and the pattern is the exact same, I get awful back of the head headaches, stuffy nose and nausea.

I have had countless FBC’s, vitamin tests , EBV/HIV and immunoglobulin tests which are all normal.

My GP says they can’t find anything wrong with me, but I literally don’t understand why this is happening to me.

It’s ruining my life, I cant go out because I get so ill whenever I do, I’m stuck inside due to awful body aches and headaches.
Im falling behind in class because I genuinely have 0 energy, I can sleep for 12 hours and still feel like I haven’t slept in days.
Genuinely sometimes I feel like ending it because I’m in physical pain all the time and my quality of life has completely diminished and I don’t know what to do anymore.
I am having a tonsillectomy next week which hopefully will stop the tonsillitis. But eveything else I don’t know to do about.

I also take probiotics, echinacea, vit C,vit D and all the other ‘immune supporting’ vitamins you can think of and yet nothing is helping.

If anyone has ANY suggestions on what to do next or if anyone has had a similar experience I would be so grateful for any advice.

TLDR- Get ill every 2 weeks, all my bloods are normal, I was hands all the time, sleep well, am a healthy individual but something is seriously wrong and idk what to do anymore.

Eyes concern

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi I'm new, I noticed something in the white area of both my eyes, color brown-ish, one for each eye and in the same positions, I'll have it checked out but while waiting I wanted your suggestions to calm down the paranoia, I don't know if I had it even before and if I did if it was smaller, because I saw something even in older pictures but I'm not sure, my vision is normal, the concerns rose from the fact I peaked at the last eclipse but I don't think it was more than 2secs.

I’ve never ever bled between periods. I had a little mild cramp and then I went to the toilet and there was blood. I had sex during my ovulation I know it’s way too early even if it’s implantation bleeding so I’m sure it’s not that. I’m just a little

Physician Responded Positional stabbing headache, tinnitus: is cervical kyphosis the cause?

Upvotes

38yoF, 138lbs, 5'3, no meds, no chronic health issues. Did have thyroidits and COVID last year. At baseline I am high functioning and run marathons. Since this all started in January 2026 I can't work or exercise due to unpredicable stabbing pain, dizziness, urge to lie down. Need ideas; current medical team thinks there's not much to do and advised accepting this as a new normal. But I think it might be coming from my neck and if so maybe there is hope. Please let me know if his seems likely or unlikely.

Symptoms/findings:
- mild cervical kyphosis and mild c4-5 disc herniation not touching spinal cord per MRI
- normal non-contrast brain MRI/V/A; right petrous apex cholesterol granuloma found but ENT thinks is incidental since symptoms are all bilateral. Neurology was thinking long Covid but symptoms are consistently reproducible and relieved with certain head/neck positions.
- constant tinnitus both ears, sometimes pulsatile
- numb hands when I wake up
- stabbing head pain when I look down, followed by scalp tenderness
- improvement of all symptoms when I lie down and extend my heck
- ears feeling like I need to pop them
- feeling like my neck can't support the weight of my head and feeling constant urge to prop head up or lie down
- all started suddenly one day in January 2026, no injury

Currently:
- episodic use of c spine collar helps all symptoms
- not using a pillow and instead using a rollled up towel under the neck helps
- inadvertent cracking at the base of my skull provides relief (happens if I tilt my head back)

The MRI was supine, which is the position that gives me relief. I don't have upright X-rays. I am currently thinking my symptoms might be coming from what looks like mild cervical kyphosis and instability of my head on my neck. Wondering if this is actually possible.

Thank you all so much.
