Recommendations Hello good folks of this subreddit. I am looking for some books that have nothing to do with Batman.

A week or two ago I saw a post on this subreddit that said "DC Comics is a Batman comics company." It made me realise that there are way too many Batman stories out there. Could you please recommend some main line DC Comics that are not related to Batman. I am a fairly new reader so please recommend whatever you guys think would immerse me more into the DC stories. Thank you very much.

Comics Supergirl: Misadventures in Midvale questions

Late to the party, I know. I just started reading the latest Supergirl from #1, since it eventually rosses with Superman. I mostly left superhero comics for a long while, so coming back, I'm a bit confused, and have a few questions.

1.- Kandor. So kryptonians can just leave Kandor at will and become supermen, but just choose not to? When is this covered, and isn't this super dangerous?

2.- Is this the same Kara that first appeared in Turner' Batman/Superman? There's hints that this seems to be the pre-Crisis Kara.

- She says Kal sent her to an orphanage, but he sent her to Kansas, right?

- She calls the Danvers mom and dad, but didn't she land already at around 16-17 years of age? How old is she now?

- She tries out different outfits, including a pre-Crisis costume, which could just be an Easter egg/joke, but also, she apparently remembers dying in the Crisis.

I should realize this is a very care-free series. Still.

Where does the Joker get his clothes from?

The joker has been shown to own a variety of suits and outfits that both fit his clown motif and fit his body type as well. He doesn’t seem like the type of person to practice tailoring have any thugs who do either, so where is he getting these clothes that manage to make him look good both theme wise and body wise?

I’ve never read comics before and want to start. Is the app DC universe infinite worth it? Is it something I should get? Or should I just go get physical copies from my local store?

Discussion How important do you think Crisis on Infinite Earths is (or became, for that matter) today?

After hesitating for a long time, I finally gave up and decided to get it. I read it way back in time, but it didn't impress me as I was a kid back then (I was around 10 years old, I believe) since I did not understand much of what was happening.

Today I fully comprehend what it was and the consequences of this event.

However, the question just popped in my head recently: in modern comics and with the actual state of DC Universe, how really relevant COIE is today?

The argument for his question is simple: COIE intended to end the multiverse and consolidate all characters in a single (and overcrowded) Earth. But this idea kind of backfired, culminating with Infinite Crisis in mid 2000s literally undoing it and recreating all the multiverse back.

I know it is a classic that reshaped DC and definitively changed many status quo (I still hate the fact that JSA coexists in the same Earth with JLA [don't even get me started on Power Girl!] ), but to me it feels like it's of obsolete since its goal was proven unrealistic.

Your opinions?

Discussion Question about the green lanterns

Ive been reading the green lanterns comics recently and one theres one thing I keep wondering. do the green lanterns get paid for their work? I would think so personally I mean firstly the process of becoming a green lantern is basically kidnapping. Imagine you wake middle of the night in a green orb asking if your scared and let’s pretend you say no without warning you are brought across space and made into a space cop “voluntarily”. I’m also gonna guess being a space cop is like being a cop on earth meaning your constantly putting your life in danger and probably not well liked around your sector. Im a be honest if I got chosen to be a green lantern but was told I’m not getting paid id drop the ring and ask to be taken home like I’m very sorry but they aren’t volunteer fire fighters putting out small kitchens fires they are legit space cops stoping galactic civil wars

Feels like the type of episode the could just start with Laterns defeating the tattoo man (abel ) and then have a character focus piece just focusing on the character.

Discussion Main Universe and Absolute Universe — Possible Merge

Do you think it’s possible that there might be an event or crisis that causes the Absolute Universe to merge with the mainline continuity? A reboot like the new 52? Or do you think they’ve learned not to mess with the main continuity anymore?

Recommendations Best Lantern reading order?

Upvotes

I have a pretty decent knowledge of Hal Jordan and most other major GLs and other Lanterns’ like Sinestro and Atrocitus, and I was reading Blackest Night back when it was releasing as a kid with that kind of sparse knowledge.

But now, I want to read it (The Blackest Night event and everything that built up to it) all properly in order and efficiently. Scrolling through here I’ve seen people recommend starting with GL Rebirth but starting the first issue seems bizarre. Like with the 4 Corpsmen being already GLs/Vuldurian while Hal is the spectre and such (I know the context behind it, but I don’t think it makes for a smooth read?).

So basically, what’s the best issues to read to build up to the Blackest Night?

Hey Fam,

If you are easily triggered by discussions of bigotry and politics as it relates to comic books and associated media, I would skip this post and this essay, which is a review of the excellent Mr. Terrific: Year One limited series via the history of portrayals of marginalized characters, particularly Black characters, in comic books.

If not, enjoy!

Recommendations Is Action comics by Grant Morrison worth reading? [Other]

Post image
44 Upvotes

I've been curious about giving this series a try. I've always heard bad things about the New 52 but I've also heard about diamonds in the rough like this one. Does the series fall off when Grant leaves? Or is it worth it to keep reading. Let me know what you guys think or if there are better alternatives to this series.

(I've read all-star, birthright, and four seasons. I'm still new to Superman.)

Edit: thanks guys for the comments and recommendations. My last question is this: is the New 52 Superman series worth reading alongside Action comics? Is New 52 Superman just as good or worse?

Other Regarding a crossover comic I read, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong [Comic Excerpt]

Post image
Upvotes

I recently read Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, and it raised an interesting question for me about Kong.

And admittedly i do not know anything about green lanterns or lanterns in general. More then an average person but obviously less then anyone whos read a dedicated GL comic. I've only dabbled indirectly in justice league content.

But my question. Theres this extra badass panel where KONG gets his hand on the green lantern ring. (Which was an epic panel) but made me think. Does it actually make sense in any way shape or form that a green lantern ring WOULD actually pick kong? Would kong be an actual rings choice?

I dont know alot about the terms and conditions on this one but would a ring legitimately choose kong if kong was more then a nearby immediate choice which is kind of also how i read it. The ring chose him in that moment for the battle (which idk if rings do that) and then it left him right after.

But again my serious question does a nig giant sized titan gorilla called kong would it be a real choice for a ring? Would he actually meet the T and Cs for a ring? Outside of the coolness of a crossover content in a serious odd circumstance if there was a lantern core i guess in a universe where this Kong was from.

Comics How Did Yall Feel About Mrs. Freeze?

Thumbnail gallery

Name: Nora Fries.

Image 4 is fan-art & not her real design. I'm not 100% positive but I think the Artist is @nishantt_art.

I love how strong her villain design is, she looks like a badass espionage agent. The red goggles, blonde hair, blue skin & Ice augmentations really work together to make her visually striking/dynamic

It would've also been cool to see a classic version like OG Mr. Freeze similar to the one in image 4.

This design is from Detective Comics #1014–1016 (2019).
