I'm going to create some artwork of the DC ladies as if they were in stylish magazine covers

I think we will look back on the All In era as one of the best publishing initiatives in comics, especially this century (so far). From the birth of the Absolute Universe, to the mainline titles. I’m curious how other DC readers feel about it.

I got it in the mail today and read through it immediately.
The art is fantastic, the characters are all unique and capture your attention right away, and the concept for the first story arc is solid. Higgins did a great job setting up all the characters and Di Nicuolo illustrated it beautifully. A lot of the basic questions people were asking prior to the release were answered in this first volume. I think if you go in with an open heart you'll enjoy it whether you're a long time comic reader or someone new to comics. I haven't been this excited for the start of a story since the Absolute Universe dropped. It gives me that same feeling of wanting to know what's next. This is definitely something special.

Justice League #1 came out August 31, 2011.

We see Dick Grayson and Wally West, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, like they're all really close with each other

So do any of the villains have close platonic friendships with each other?

These three stories are the best DC stuff I've read recently. I waited decades for the finale to Rick Vietch's time travel storyline for Swamp Thing and it didn't disappoint. For those of you that have read the Alan Moore issues but not Vietch, please do yourself a favor and pick up the trades. Happy endings are rare in comics but this one delivers on all levels.

Fury of Firestorm by Lemire features my favorite underutilized character and has revealed things five issues in that are shocking and make Firestorm much more interesting and a character to watch.

The "Flight" storyline in Detective comics by Tom Taylor was entertainingly fantastic and showed an unrevealed side of Batman's past and his relationship with Green Arrow and Black Canary.

Hooooly shit this is fun. I definitely had that hesitation to get into Flash cause of not really finding the power overly exciting (due to lack of knowledge) and visually the rogue gallery not looking cool, but what the hell. What an absolute delight this has been so far.

Just using Wally's powers in ways I wouldn't have thought of in a million years, creating puzzles that just seem so comically out of left field but fitting right in with the state of modern society.

Just an absolute treat, and I don't know how specific the spoiler rules here are but theres an almost choose your own adventure spread page in the I believe 34th issue of the run that is genuinely one of the coolest things I've seen in the comics space in almost 10 years of reading.

"The great lie (of Kryptonite) was going to revealed when a crazed Supergirl returns from space and reveals that Kryptonite is actually an Earth mineral! 

It's the Earth that is toxic to Superman, and is sapping his power over time, hence his diminished abilities in Superman and the Authority. 

This was to be the reason he's forced to leave Earth and I thought it could tie in with PKJ's sojourn on Warworld but I think it opened up too many potential problems. 

It would have worked in the 5G continuity but not so well in what was eventually published.

As I may have mentioned Brainiac was not the first choice for this villain reveal… In the original take, Brainiac's place in the narrative was occupied by a duplicate Superman! 

When it was still part of the 5G concept and a little more parodic, I had this big daft idea to update the classic utopian Superman story Superman Red/Superman Blue from 1963 by having an older Superman face a literalization of his contradictory impulses towards anti and pro authoritarianism.

My suggestion was we split Superman not into Superman Red/Superman Blue but Superman Left/Superman Right – collectivism versus competition – authoritarianism vs. libertarianism with each half starting closer to the centre, then growing ever more hardline as time went by and they remained separated. 

With dire consequences for the world, of course! A final scene in the original plot for issue #4 had Superman Red unveiling his own team – only for it to turn out to be the ORIGINAL Authority with Damian Wayne and Jon Kent in place of the Midnighter and Apollo! 

The echoes of this idea that remain can be seen in the series' obsession with resolving duality – light and dark, good and evil – and the need to unify opposites to make progress, as well as in the – 'No – WE'RE the Authority…' scene at the end of issue #3.

When I outlined this plot to the Superman editorial team and Phillip Kennedy Johnson, I could see Phillip visibly recoil, and I promised to change the ending so as not to commit him to all the implications of a divided man of Steel impinging on a story he'd been meticulously building and setting in motion. 

The solicitation copy for the issue however does refer to Superman splitting – so now you know what that was about!"

I've been curious about giving this series a try. I've always heard bad things about the New 52 but I've also heard about diamonds in the rough like this one. Does the series fall off when Grant leaves? Or is it worth it to keep reading. Let me know what you guys think or if there are better alternatives to this series.

(I've read all-star, birthright, and four seasons. I'm still new to Superman.)

Edit: thanks guys for the comments and recommendations. My last question is this: is the New 52 Superman series worth reading alongside Action comics? Is New 52 Superman just as good or worse?
