Mini one 2011 1.6L - 55kw (75pk)

Upvotes

Hi, I have owned my F56 Cooper S for around 6 months and for most of that time the experience has been somewhat spoilt by some very annoying rattles, the most annoying of these being from the passenger door. I have tried lubricating the rubber as often suggested and that hasn’t resolved this issue. It seems to be coming from somewhere in the door card, but the dealer have been very unhelpful and said they can’t really fix it without it being very costly, as it is an Approved Used/CPO car the warranty does not cover rattles. Anyone have similar experience and how did you resolve it? I am desperate to get this resolved so I can enjoy my Mini again!

I just got this 2014 mini around 2 weeks ago for my bdayy and it’s due for a wash. What’s the best recommendation for the fabric convertible top? I also saw some protection sprays from the sun and stuff do they actually work?

Any advice appreciated - worth replacing turbo or move on? 2015 F56 Mini One, 1.2L petrol with just over 80,000 miles.

Have recently taken my mini in to be looked at, at an independent specialist mini/bmw garage. I took it in initially due to a drivetrain malfunction warning/sometimes hard to start (this has only happened 3 times and last was few weeks ago).

Turbo has been noisy - dentist-drill type whooshing sound on acceleration + Have noticed light grey smoke a couple of times on ignition.

Otherwise drives fine and has had a recent MOT with nothing to fix.

The only fault they could find was mixture adaption rich. They weren’t sure whether my usual garage had wiped the error codes when they did diagnostics.

They have also noted the turbo is noisy and there is some smoke. The specialist thinks the turbo is giving out and has advised that it’ll need replacing sooner rather than later, says car seems otherwise in good condition but to consider selling due to cost of the repair.

The cost of replacing the turbo with them is estimated at just over £3000.

Does anyone have any experience with this as an issue? Any advice on whether it would be something worth doing at this mileage or whether I should just cut my losses and sell it would be great.

Thanks!

CarPlay Tech Mess

I’ve had my brand new Mini Cooper for 6 months. The connection to CarPlay is a mess. Every time we use the service card at valet (without the actual key) or the app, I cannot reconnect to CarPlay after no matter what I do for days, and then suddenly it will work. The dealership service people are no help. Any ideas on how to reset at least? Of course, I keep disconnecting and reconnecting to Bluetooth and disconnecting and reconnecting to CarPlay. Nothing works. Help!

New to me Mini - now I get the obsession

Went with my wife to help her test drive a Clubman. Saw this Hardtop in the “overflow” lot, drove it and fell in love with it after the first test drive. I’ve always liked the looks of an MC, but never seriously considered getting one.

Now I get it why there’s such a dedicated following! I forgot how fun it it to “drive” vs just getting somewhere.

Advice on a used mini!

Hi all! I'm buying my first car (not the first I drive, but the first I own) and I fell in love with Mini. I have a few viewings in the upcoming days and I've read a lot already but I feel that each mini is so unique. I hope you can advise me of the decision.

So here we go!

Option 1

Mini Cooper S F56

Registered in 2015

250 000km (155 000 mi)

1 owner

Engine: 2.0 L - 141 kW 16V

Bonus point! It has an upgraded Harman audio and has a lovely orange colour.

The milage scares the shit out of me though

Option 2

Mini Cooper F56

Registered in 2015

100 000 km (62000 mi)

1 owner

100 kW

Less exciting, actually cheaper rb EUR 2k and lovely blue colour

Option 3

Mini One F56

Registered in 2015

60 000km (37000 mi)

2 owners

75kW

And then the last one

Option 4

The chapest one by far

Mini Cooper R56

Registered in 2013

100 000 I'm (62000 mi)

1 owner

90 kW

Automatic

All of them have slightly different interiors.

I'm planning to drive it rb 400km one way every second month and take it for longer holidays. I generally have a budget of rb EUR 10 000k as a first car but over time I'm fine spending some money on fixing it up. I'd consider myself a well off but I don't want to spend too much in one go as I have other financial plans (like a house down payment :) )

Let me know what do you think. What should I look for or if you want the photos of those minis, let me know!

Thank you all!

Premium gas requirement has us bummed out.

I have always loved Mini’s and was thrilled when my daughter mentioned it would be her choice for first car. So, we began searching for a good used car. Found a nice low mileage 2015 for $15K. But, when we found out about the premium gas requirement we were disappointed. It seems there are no recent versions made without this requirement? Being new to Mini’s I wanted to ask the site if this is true and if any advice you may have. Thanks!

Edit - I am off to work but will read the comments this evening. Thanks everyone for your input and encouragement. Any real world (normal driving habits), MPG expectations would be much appreciated.

Dash Cam Recommendations

I just picked up a 2024 Mini Cooper Hardtop SE (electric). I love it. It is so much fun to drive, and I'm so happy with the small footprint.

I'd like to add a dashcam, so I wanted to get recommendations that could be mini-specific. I was looking for a solution for cell phone mount and found Craven's Gemini Phone Mount which is awesome. Are there any mini-specific recommendations for a Dashcam?

I'm considering VIOFO A229 Pro, but I just can't get over how goofy the front camera/screen unit looks. What have you all done?

Dealer Service Overcharging

Post image
5 Upvotes

I hit a bad pothole on the highway that resulted in a total blowout. It was so deep that it damaged the knuckle and wheel hub bearing.

Had it towed to my local Mini because it’s a lease and I just wanted piece of mind.

Long story short I got insurance involved and they sent out and adjuster and they showed me the numbers and in some cases Mini is marking up parts 200+% and quoting 9 hours of service for a 3 hour job.

So insurance is going to pay for about 1/2 of what Mini is charging and the service dept is trying to say I need to pay the rest. I sent them the comparison w/ the part numbers and everything and am waiting to hear back but is this just typical of service departments to overcharge?

I’ve got a Mini Cooper S 2014 and this has all come on at once, what’s the issue is it just the individual bulbs or something else? Only reason I’m asking is because they’ve all gone at once so thought that was strange. Thanks in advance if anyone can help! :)

Recommendation - MINI Clubman 1.5 Cooper vs 2.0 Cooper S

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I’m trying to decide between two MINI Clubmans:

2019 Cooper 1.5 petrol – green, 33k miles, 2 owners, automatic

2022 Cooper S 2.0 petrol – red, 47k miles, 1 owner, automatic

I’ll mainly be using the car for city driving in the UK (Birmingham) and probably around 5k miles a year.

For anyone who has owned or driven both, how big is the real-world difference in fuel consumption, especially around town? Is the Cooper S noticeably more expensive on petrol?

I’d also be interested in the difference in insurance, servicing, maintenance and general running costs.

The 1.5 seems like the sensible choice because of the lower mileage and better economy, but I also want something that’s fun to drive. Is the Cooper S worth the extra running costs, or is the 1.5 still enjoyable enough that I wouldn’t really miss the extra performance?

The Cooper S is also 3 years newer and has only had one owner, although it has 14k more miles.

Which one would you choose for mostly city driving?

Just became a member of the Mini club a couple weeks ago. Always been a fan of the 2-door, and the recent ‘27 Paul Smith edition was enough to get hooked. Love the subtle color shifts and connection to Paul’s studio palette. I lived in London for a few years about 10 years ago and always loved his stores. The car is black, green roof and mirrors, and desaturated navy blue lower trim.
