Hey all, I'm a person who is poor but likes baking and cooking. I made about 20 Banana Blueberry Muffins muffins and am now giving 6 of them to someone in order to get 6 eggs and other ingredients for cooking and baking so I can continue to have food throughout the month. The muffins are very good but I may be biased. It'll be a pickup exchange and the 6 muffins were frozen after they finished cooling. The 4 in the image are the ones I set aside for myself. Eggs don't need to be bought today just not expiring very soon. Same with other ingredients. Located Downtown a few blocks away from Rideau

Ingredients: Flour, Banana, Butter, Egg, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Salt and of course blueberries.

Baked in reusable silicone muffin cups.

Bank is still one lane each way, but all turns from Riverside onto Bank are back to what they used to be. Billings Bridge exits/entrances are restored too (speed bumps are still in the parking lot, though).

1230ish today, wife was turning left onto Merivale from Merivale mall, had advance green signal. Driver coming from Basil McDonald Way, (opposite Merivale Mall) turned right onto Merivale, into the path of a truck also turning left and immediately tried switching lanes into my wife's path without checking blind spot, and hit our car.

Groceries fell, wife was shook and didn't realize the car was hit.

The driver had the audacity to report it to the police and they showed up at the house a couple hours later.

Much appreciated if anyone can help!

Edit: forgot to mention the driver told the police that my wife was the one changing lanes. This is why I write "audacity." The way he reported was accusing her of being at fault.

I hope everyone is doing ok. My wife and I are headed up to Ottawa but only for an afternoon and evening,to explore.

What are some things we have to see? I wish we could stay longer but unfortunately it’s just not in the cards for us on this trip.

Has anyone else noticed that it's hard to stay outside after 5 pm without bug spray? Usually, mosquitoes are not so active at the end of August but I'm presuming that all the rain in July and August has massively increased their population. I also noticed that some mosquitoes are smaller and quieter than in the past. Usually, I hear buzzing when one's near but unless it's by my ear, I don't notice them now until they are biting me (and they dart in fast). Ugh.

With so many candidates running for Ottawa mayor, I’m wondering if the opposition vote could end up being heavily split. The winner doesn’t need 50%+1, they just need more votes than anyone else.

If several challengers each get 10–20%, could Sutcliffe realistically win with a relatively small plurality simply because the anti-incumbent vote is divided?

The elections are being held next month, theres not that much time left.

As it stands right now, things are looking favorable for suttcliffe.

My cheer team at Black Widow Cheer Gym in the east end is looking for more athletes (18+) to join us. It's a super fun way to stay active and learn to do some seriously impressive stuff.

It is a once-a-week commitment on Wednesday nights (8:30 to 10pm) and we attend two competitions late winter (competing against other adult teams our level).

You don't necessarily need cheer experience either (I started at 26 with only a light recreational dance background). If anyone is interested in joining feel free to message me or reach out to the gym directly.

My boyfriend sent me a text about there being a sour smell in the air (riverside/main). I turned on the fan to get air in my room, also got a whiff of some nasty sour smell on the breeze (Elgin/417). Also smelled it when I stepped fully outside onto my balcony. Anyone hear any news about laying manure or draining the river?

Edit: I think the collective agreement is probably manure. Little bit more sour than usual but still, tis the season so I’ve been told. (Also I’m sure the humidity is making it worse)

I thought it might be nice to have a thread celebrating a big win for an author from Ottawa.

El-Mohtar is probably best known for co-authoring the novella "This Is How You Lose The Time War" with Max Gladstone. Last night she took home this year's award for best novella at the Hugo Awards for her 2025 recent release "The River Has Roots." It's a charming dark fairytale type story that centers the bond between two sisters who live near an enchanted wood.

I went in to check it out by myself, this video is basically the first thing I saw.

The man was trying to scam them by saying they kept some change, and then making an outrage.

The staff handled it really well, store manager gave him the 20$ bill back and cancelled his order, but he kept making a fuzz. He left but they still called the cops to keep things safe.

The burger and fries were in point, better than normal mcdonald’s. If you like McDonald’s food, this is your time to try it out while spirits are still high.

Looking for a recommendation for a restaurant that can host a group of 40-50 for a milestone birthday. I want to be able to buy a bunch of appetizers or platters for snacks, but everyone buys their own drinks and meals if they want one. Preferably downtown, glebe, or east. So far the best option I've found is bier market at Lansdowne.

Hi, have any of the Mayoral candidates said anything about moving the City of Ottawa off of American tech services and software? I remember a while ago when the trade war kicked off there was some reluctance or maybe slow walking from our current mayor about shifting the city away from American providers? Has any of the candidates addressed the municipal government reliance on US tech?
