Help Not sure what to do

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice on my crown-tail betta. He has been bloated for 3 days now. I've fasted him for the past 3 days.

Tank size: 10 gallons (filtered + heater)

Temp: 79°F

Current symptoms: Significant bloating, but scales are lying flat (no pineconing that I can see). Energy and behavior seem okay so far.

What should my next move be to help him clear this up?

Tank is fully cycled, currently acclimating my single mystery snail. 6 gallon tank. Waiting until I get my new filter because this one is too strong before I get my fish. There’s 4 live plants, 3 hammocks, and I am also waiting for my floaters for the top!

We rescued Moissanite from PetSmart maybe a month ago or so, and he’s really started to show off his colors! Originally he was a steel gray color with just some hints of gold and purple, so we didn’t expect him to turn out so radiant!!! I’m curious about what color type he is (alien?) because he doesn’t seem to be any of the morphs I’m the most familiar with. Thanks and enjoy!

Help New tank after 5 years

Upvotes

Hello! I’m starting my first betta tank after five years of no fish. I feel like I’m relearning everything 😵‍💫

I wanted to see if, by any chance, someone located in the North Phoenix, Arizona area would be able to provide some established filter media or some substrate to help add some beneficial bacteria to the tank.

I don’t have anything living in the tank yet, and my plants are coming in the mail on Sunday.

I’m also open to any advice anyone has to offer!

Thank you!!

Opinions? Planning on adding more plants on the bottom since it’s kind of top heavy. Should I add sand over the fluval or keep it as is?

Help Gomez’s Retirement Tank

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I’ve had Gomez for over a year now, he’s my best buddy and most faithful friend! He was previously in my 20 gallon tall tank with 7 rasbora. Although it was tall, he really enjoyed diving down to the bottom of the tank and exploring down there!

His new retirement tank is a fully cycled planted 10 gal with a sponge filter and heater. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make the tank more suitable for an elderly fish? I wanna say he’s probably about a year and a half old, which isn’t super old for a betta, but he’s been through my moving apartments and two previous tanks! Since taking these pics I have propped the wood up so that he has a nice rest, plus his hammock. TIA!

Help Does this female plakat look egg-bound, obese, or like she may have fluid retention?

This is my friend’s female plakat betta. I mentioned to her that, to me, she looks seriously overweight or possibly swollen from fluid retention/oedema, rather than simply being full of eggs.

What makes it confusing is that she doesn’t seem to be overfed. My friend keeps around ten bettas, and this female eats roughly the same amount as the others, sometimes even less. They also have one fasting day per week.

A couple of friends have told her that there’s nothing wrong with the fish and that she’s just gravid/full of eggs, which is why her abdomen looks so large. I’m not really convinced by that explanation, especially looking at her body shape from above and from the front.

My friend asked me to post these photos here and get some more opinions.

What do you think? Does this look like a normally egg-filled female, obesity, constipation, fluid retention, or something else?

She’s otherwise behaving normally as far as we can tell.

I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who keep or breed female bettas and are familiar with what a heavily gravid female should look like.

I can’t tell if she’s ideal, thin, or underweight because of the sharp decline at the tail. Please ignore the algae bloom, I looked up what to do with it and I am told to starve the tank of light and my fish for a few days, but I’m not sure if I should go ahead with it now when she looks like this.

Dear Chalie,

oh you were such a funny guy. But you knew how to give me heart attacks all the time. Since the first day I got you back on 11/6/2024 you were so gorgeous I was immediately in love with the way you looked at me in the store.

you were about 2 years old now, yet you’ve outlived any betta that came here later than you did. you were such a strong boy. I hope you know how much I love you, I wouldn’t trade those greetings im the morning or the greetings you gave my parents when they came to look at your tank.

You were so special and you’ll always have a special place in my heart

Help What kind of eggs are these? (Not betta eggs)

I have a tank with just one male betta (he’s never been around a female and there wasn’t a bubble nest so these aren’t betta eggs) and one mystery snail in it. I found these little black eggs floating on one of the plants I have in the tank. They were at the surface of the water touching the air a little. I’m sure they’re eggs because they felt really slimy and were all stuck together when I touched them. I know it’s really hard to tell but does anyone know what these eggs are?

25L tank

Inert substrate (sand)

2 vallisneria gigantus

1 anubias barteri

1 anubias nana

I forgot what the one on the far left (2nd pic) is called so if anyone can identify that'd be great

So today I finally set up my first tank! It's been a long dream of mine to finally start this journey and I'm so excited to learn more. Setting up the tank itself has been super exciting but also kind of overwhelming. I am basically planning on introducing a betta next week or so, but I want to make sure that everything is right until then.

So I need some help knowing if I set up these plants correctly. From my understanding, these plants can live happily in the type of substrate I have, but I don't think I set them up correctly, honestly I can't fully see where the rhizomes stop and where the roots begin, and I'm scared of suffocating them.

Other than the plants, I'm not completely satisfied with the way I set up the filter (this one was much trickier than I thought). I was basically kind of forced to have it facing down because leaving the pipe straight caused too much water to spray out of the tank. I was wondering if you think that would be a problem for the fish.

Also, when should I do my first water change?

My guy here loves all the roots. He sleeps in them at night and hunts baby snails hanging on the roots during the day. But i worry that they’re blocking light from the plants underneath. Should I scoop some out?

Help Start a planted tank

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey yall. I have been seeing everyone’s planted tank and I feel like Mr. Meat Thermometer here would thrive much better in one. I want to upgrade him to a 20 gallon planted tank with some shrimps or Cory’s soon. I have no clue where to start. I’d like to use fluval stratum (I think this is an obvious option based on research) and some sand substrate. But I don’t know where else to start. Google is overwhelming me with the stupid AI answers, so I’d rather come here and speak to thise who are actually experienced. Where should I start, and how should I go about this?

Curious if this is normal - for him from petsmart. Why does it look like he has his long sleeve shirt rolled up?
