I’m looking for something where there will be long stretches of atmosphere and action alone carrying the story. The world tells you what you need to know

For example, say it’s a movie set in Appalachia at night. A single guy has a flashlight who got lost in the woods. A movie like that could be very entertaining but have very little dialogue or even human interaction

Blade runner 2049 has a good example of this at the beginning of the movie where he meets Dave Bautistas character. Yeah, there is dialogue, but it’s really not the most important thing

Parts of annihilation were similar. Very little talking but just a lot of unsettling vibes

I'm thinking Interstellar, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Sorry, Baby, Moulin Rouge. I want something where love and kindness wins, and with the exclusion of Sorry, Baby, perhaps a bit epic as well. Sorry, Baby mentioned for the catharsis.

She loves action movies to turn your brain off too. She also likes them if they have comedy in them but they dont have to. Just mindless action. Doesn't need depth.

Looking for movie suggestions where the protagonist fights bad luck, guilt, greed, rat race, job pressure, and betrayal — from people who aren't evil, just acting out of their own flawed situations. Same way we fight our own desires, expectations, and the traps we build for ourselves.

Should be an ordinary protagonist.

Other characters who wrong the protagonist aren't "evil" — just human, flawed, and driven by their own pressures.

Should feel grounded and close to real life.

Also open to movies about greed and money, where money itself is the conflict (e.g., 99 Homes?).

Looking for some whimsy movies to watch. Some about fairies, witches, magical worlds etc. I’m looking for ones that aren’t so dark. So closer to a Disney movie maybe. Some examples of ones I really liked so similar to these:

So, I'm writing a paper about how horror movies secretly make you feel good and safe. For example, Nightmare Before Elm Street is scary but it makes you feel good because the bad guy is defeated and he was killed in the first place for abusing children, which was a major concern at the time. Last Night In Soho makes you feel good because Sandy's victims deserved it and almost everyone got a happy or happy-adjacent ending. Movies like Shaun of the Dead or Dead and Breakfast are just plain funny. I already have a small list, but I'm sure I'm missing some. Any recs?

I love films from the late 80s through the 90s (into the early 2000s) where the characters felt true-to-life, even in stories that were far-fetched. There was something so cozy and realistic about films from that period.

Maybe it’s the commonality of cosmetic procedures and digital enhancement, but I don’t feel as drawn to contemporary movies. I’d love to find some gems from the past that I may have missed. I particularly love Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan, and Michelle Pfeiffer, so I have seen most of their films from that time. I enjoy dramas and rom-coms.

Film suggestions don’t need to be set in the 80s through early 2000s. It’s more so the aesthetic of filming, costuming, and casting during that time that had a certain indescribable magic to it. For instance, I love “A League of Their Own,” which was released in 1992 but set during WWII.

Maybe it's someone discovering whay they truly want, or finding something they're good at after failing to stand out in other ways. Or they try to replicate someone else and end up failing. Just saw Secret Defense (2008), a french gem. Also saw already From Paris With Love (a royale with cheese reference), of course we have the Mission Imposible franchise, tho the 1st ones are more spy movies, and the latter more action movies in my opinion, the 007 franchise as well is great in that.

Overall I want more plot driven, political, crossings and betrayal, no need for action sequences, crazy chases and explosions and shootouts (tho it doesnt hurt at all, just that there is no need for it necesarily)

I want something genuinely mind-blowing, disturbing, emotional, or existential. The kind of movie that ends and I just sit there in silence processing what I watched.

Please don't suggest the obvious mainstream picks.

I just watched my first finnish movie ( Fallen Leaves ) and ended up liking it a lot. It was such a cute and warm movie and the deadpan humour was hilarious.

Any other movies like that?

I’ve done some googling, but most of the movies I’ve found only use the language barrier as a secondary plot or it‘s not the main focus.

I’m just looking for films where the two main characters are either trying to befriend each other or be romantically involved, but they do not speak the same language and they must navigate it.

I just watched “Ya no estoy aquí” and i loved seeing his friendship with Lin as they navigated not understanding each other.

I love watching good legal drama / courtroom thriller movies, especially the ones from the 90’s.

I just scoured through older posts in this sub, and it seems like I’ve already seen the greatest hits that always get recommended around here.

I am not really caught up on the “newer” post 2000 movies, however. Perhaps someone might have a recommendation for me.

I'm currently watching Slacker and I'm absolutely loving it, I can see how Kevin Smith was inspired by it.

I love the dialogue heavy vignettes of crazy characters and stories.

Anything similar would be amazing.

Hi! I’m looking for movie recommendations, especially for autumn/Halloween. I really love the vibe and atmosphere of The Craft, and I also like the witchcraft/spirituality side of it.
I’m not really a horror person, though. I don’t like gore or anything genuinely scary. I feel like there are movies about witches, ghosts, vampires, creatures, etc. that aren’t necessarily horror, and that’s more what I’m looking for.
I also really like the look/feeling of older movies. I haven’t seen that many movies, so I’m open to pretty much anything. For example, I really liked Dead Poets Society.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be Halloween either — I’d also love things with fairies, ghosts, vampires magical/witchy elements, mysterious autumn vibes, old-school atmosphere, etc. I’m honestly not sure how to describe what I’m looking for 😭 so feel free to recommend anything that you think fits!

Do you know any romance movies that remind you of my situation? I’m a teenage girl, and I’m head over heels for a guy friend of mine (also a teenager). There’s just one problem: he’s still really immature. Even so, I’m certain he’s 100% my type, and it’s just a matter of time. To be honest, I fell for him for real when a tarot reader asked if I was interested in a friend, and the cards drawn indicated a relationship years down the line.

Seriously this movie makes 127 hours look like a walk in the park and they are interviewing the real people who experienced this horror while recreating the event with incredible accuracy and brilliant stunning cinematography. I have no idea how they pulled this off and I have no idea how a human could survive through that kind of trauma but it’s a truly inspiring story of human determination. Check it out.

Im 19 for reference but I want some funny comedies I can watch with the parents. Swearing is fine as long as it doesn't get too sexual for too long. No nudity is preferred as well.

I am looking for animation movies made either with unusual techniques or that have a very striking visual style. They can belong to any genre, adult or kids friendly, they don't even need to be particularly "good" in the traditional sense, just interesting to look at. The only caveat is that they need to be feature length, not short films; except for this, I'm open to every kind of suggestion :)
