Hello, my girlfriend’s center diff failed on her car and we ended up putting a whole other transmission in because the shop figured it was their easiest bet. So now I want to rebuild the old center diff for a spare and I’m assuming the viscous coupler needs to be replaced but I was wondering if these roller bearings on the upper shaft need to be replaced? TIA

I have a Subaru Forester 2024, around 34k miles. I’ve been doing all my maintenance at a local Subaru dealer. Is this price legit and do you guys recommend doing all of this?

How bad are these lower control arms? I don’t feel anything abnormal braking and no metal on metal noises. Maybe a little rattling when backing out of parking spaces but can’t remember if it’s always been like that or if it started later on

2022 Impreza Hatchback, has check engine light popped up 2 days after filling the tank. Code is P0455

~48000km, Car drives very normally as usually. Without clearing the code myself, I tightened the gas cap and drive for more than 100km, check engine light still there.

Gas cap looks very normal to me (or I just dont know how to inspect?), had a shop put on another gas cap from another impreza, they said check engine light still popped up,

I am very new to car and what should I do/inspect/diagnose next? Would this be something still under warranty- checked warranty booklet, very less likely.

What would it possibly be other than gas cap?

I'm trying to perform a Torque Converter Relearn Procedure as per TSB 16-156-25R but when clicking on the hyperlink in the TSB on techinfo.subaru.com it opens a blank page.

Does anyone know what this procedure is off the top of their head? Or if your hyperlink is working?

Earlier this year we bought a Tribeca with a cracked head. Threw in the known good engine from my old Outback 3.0R and a new radiator, flushed the coolant system 3 times and called it a day.

It's been running great ever since.

Now is our first time towing with it. Relatively light caravan of 1400kg ish. Car packed (quite full).

First days went fine. Includes highway and B roads, lots of hills etc.

Now we're in the south of France with the temperature being around 32C. Same amount of hills as before.

Everything went fine until we arrived at the campsite.

Whilst waiting on the parking lot, and letting the car idle, the temperature gradually shot up quite badly. The AC performance also went down. 3 above the middle, right below the red. When driving onto the campsite we turned on the heat inside the car and the temperature went down.

Is this normal behavior or should I be worried?

Perhaps I'm being a bit paranoid due to the nature of these cars, or perhaps I just shouldn't have let it sit idling for 15 minutes with the AC on full blast.

Any suggestions?

My 08 Outback just died, like died died, and before I either part it out or sell it for parts, does anyone have an idea what all I could potentially save for my girlfriend's 15 Forester?

The main parts I have are brand new rear struts and brake calipers w/ rotors that never made it onto the Outback. As well as roof rack cross rails. If they're compatible, I'd really rather save at least those brand new parts than sell them at a loss and have to rebuy them later.

(Before anyone asks, the car already needed hundreds if not thousands in repairs, and the body was rusting out to where it only has maybe another winter or two left in it. And then the head gaskets--that the lot that I bought it from claimed to have had redone themselves, and I paid extra for--violently exploded, putting cylinder pressure into the coolant and causing the radiator to explode. Wasn't a fun time. Didn't even reach three years with it, and I'm also unhappy that my gf's car is also mixing coolant and oil at 124k miles, so I'm going back to Toyotas. I can't lie, these two cars have ruined me on the brand forever)

This Subaru had a very severe accident this morning in Boulder, CO. I'm not going to dwell on specifics. But it likely was airborne for 100+ feet and landed on other (unoccupied) parked cars. Look at how protected the driver space is (it is believed the door was removed by jaws of life). Driver was reported to be extracted alive, no further info available currently.

2011 Legacy 170k miles. It’s been around a while, maybe years. I figure I finally ask to get an idea what the sound could be. It’s audible only from inside and coming from the dashboard area. I thought it might be a belt noise but it isn’t heard from the outside of the car. Timing belt service was done 15,000 miles ago as well. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I've noticed recently that sometimes when I shift between lower gears, the dash display for which gear I'm on does not change. For example, I'll shift from second to third, and the dash will say I'm still in second. Obviously I can feel that the car did change gears, but I find it very weird that the led doesn't always keep up. I was wondering if anyone else has had that issue?

I just finished putting things in my 16 crosstrek back together after replacing the valve cover gaskets. I have this 1 little connector that I don’t remember disconnecting (doesn’t mean I didn’t though). I should have taken pics before unhooking everything, I know. Either way I still would like to know where this lil guy should call home. Thanks in advance ❤️

Hey, trying to tap into the hive mind here... I've acquired a crash damaged Subaru from the US and imported it to the EU and now I'm looking for parts to fix it.

Courtesy of this website I can find the part numbers I need. Like the instrument panel for example:

Using the same part number on this side of the pond I find multiple European retailers offering it. I reached out to one to ask who's their supplier but they couldn't be sure whether it's the US, Japan or something else.

Local dealership was not eager to go into this topic and offered an abrupt "nothing will fit besides some brake pads".

So my question is this. Are these part numbers globally unique? That is, the code identifies a single specific part. Or could there be a different "version" of the part identified by a code but targeting vehicles of different origin?

I'm finally getting around to improving the audio setup for my drive tour videos, so for the occasion I made a little video to share with you all.
At some point I'm planning on getting proper high tier audio equipment, because I'm a bit of an audiophile myself, but I want to focus on car upgrades, so for now this is pretty good.
The setup consists of one DJI Mic Mini in the engine room and another one close to the exhaust, and both connected to my DJI Action Camera 6.
Can't wait to get on the road again, after I install my new exhaust this Saturday!

I recently had a dash cam professionally installed on my 2026 Subaru Crosstrek with EyeSight.
The installer initially discussed mounting it around the plastic housing behind the rearview mirror, but told me that mounting it directly to the plastic could be less secure and that the dash cam could potentially come loose/fall off. Because of that, they recommended the location shown in my photo and installed it there. I assumed the installer was familiar with EyeSight and that this was a safe location.

However, I spoke with Subaru today and they told me that, according to the EyeSight manual, there should be roughly 6 inches of clearance around the EyeSight camera/prohibited area. They said placing something too close could potentially interfere with EyeSight’s ability to detect objects or vehicles ahead and could affect safety functions such as pre-collision braking.

That made me concerned because my dash cam is pretty close to the EyeSight housing, as you can see in the photo.

I haven’t noticed any EyeSight warnings or errors so far, but obviously I don’t want to find out during an actual emergency that something was interfering with the system.

Does this placement look too close to the EyeSight cameras?
Would you go back to the installer and ask them to reposition it? If so, where have you mounted your dash cam on a newer Crosstrek without interfering with EyeSight?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone with a 2025/2026 Crosstrek!
