Turn a static photograph into a cinematic documentary shot using Adobe After Effects.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create smooth camera movement, isolate and highlight a subject, darken the background, and build a polished documentary composition.

Tutorial What if Shazam existed for video effects?

I’m working on an idea and I want feedback from actual editors before I start building it.
Basically, you see an effect in an edit but have no idea what it’s called. Instead of trying to describe it to ChatGPT or searching random stuff on YouTube, you upload the clip and select the exact part you’re talking about.
The site would try to identify the effect, break down what’s happening, and find tutorials that actually show you how to make it.
The main thing I want to do differently is make it cross-platform.
So maybe the effect was originally made in After Effects, but you use CapCut or Alight Motion. You could choose your editor and it would find the closest tutorial or way to recreate that same effect using the tools you actually have.
Eventually I’d also want things like saving effects to your own library, finding similar effects, and jumping directly to the part of a tutorial where the effect is explained.
Basically:
See an effect → select it → identify it → find how to make it → recreate it in your editor.
Kind of like Shazam, but for editors.
I haven’t built it yet. I’m trying to figure out if this is actually worth building before I spend a ton of time on it.
Would you use this? And what would it NEED to do for you to actually choose it over just asking ChatGPT?

Beginner Help How can I recreate this block reveal effect in After Effects?

Hi! Does anyone know how to recreate this effect in After Effects? The blocks start stacked/clustered in the center, then spread outward until they reveal the full logo/image. I’m not sure what this effect is called so I can find a tutorial on google or the best way to build it. Any tips or tutorial recommendations would be really appreciated!

Hi :) Made "the Sun" today; this is my 2nd day learning. I have zero experience, so this is very nooby, but I had fun doing it. I started feeling more comfortable with the program, but I really want to improve my skills. Any tips, advice, or criticism is welcome!!

Also any cool plugins to check out? At the moment I only have the Mister Horse starter pack

Tutorial Rigging & animating spider webs in AE

Full breakdown of how this spider web was rigged and animated in my YouTube video: youtube.com/watch?v=d-6Q6ByH2AQ

Using a combination of Null Controllers for Path Points & Null Tracing Along Path, it's possible to set up a spider web that stretches and bends based on a single controller.

Each vertical line can be adjusted individually, and by linking the rotation of the paths, we can also control the bend of the strings.

This leaves us with a rig that requires very few keyframes to animate.

Is it the easiest way to do it? Definitely not - but it's a good way to learn about null controllers, parenting, and rigging in general.

OC - Stuff I made Camille Claudel: The Sacrificed Genius

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a short excerpt from a personal motion design project I made about Camille Claudel, the 19th-century French sculptor who spent the last 30 years of her life locked away in an asylum, her work largely erased from art history in favor of her mentor (and lover) Auguste Rodin.

The goal was to give her story the visual weight it deserves — using motion to translate the intensity, isolation, and raw talent that defined her life and work.

Full project on Behance: https://www.behance.net/gallery/254923783/Camille-Claudel-The-Sacrificed-Genius

Would love to hear your thoughts. Feedback (harsh or otherwise) very welcome!
