I was using the Hercules laundry app and my balance suddenly went negative right after I refilled it. I copied and pasted my transactions and refills into a spreadsheet and found out that my balance was $50 lower than expected. I moved to NY in 2021 but I was seeing transactions in 2016, so if I didn't include those, my balance was $100 lower than expected!

Hercules refunded me $28, but I believe the mistaken balance issue is more severe and pervasive than they are willing to admit. I checked with other people in the building and they were also seeing incorrect balances based on their transaction history. Is this just my building or are other people seeing miscalculations? Hi, I am an intermittent insomnia sufferer. In the past I've managed my insomnia through a combination of medication and loosely CBT-inspired practices. I'm currently pregnant and having a period of insomnia, and would like to explore CBT-I since I'd like to limit my use of medication as much as possible. Searching online, it seems like there are many, many CBT-I specialists in NYC, but it's hard to know where to start. Has anyone here gotten CBT-I treatment in the city (or virtually), and can recommend a practice based on their own experience?

I’ve been living in the city for about 15 years now, since first coming here for school. About 95% of the time, I go about my day without a second thought for my safety, though like most women, I will check behind me when walking anywhere in the dark and generally try to avoid eye contact and stand as far away from the edge of the subway platform as possible. When relatives and out of towners worry for me, I always reassure them that it’s very safe.

With that said, every time a random act of violence occurs, I can’t help but spend the rest of my day spiraling about it. Just this year, 5 deadly attacks occurred in places I frequent (in 2 instances, they took place merely minutes after I left or before I arrived). A few weeks ago, a man started taking photos of me without my permission and followed me, jeering, down the street. A month ago, another man suddenly jumped at me from out of nowhere just to scream in my face. Earlier this summer, a man chased me and my friends for almost 3 city blocks. These instances, while not resulting in any physical harm, have shaken me more than I like to admit.

I love this city and want to live here forever, but in the past couple of years, I’ve been really struggling to feel fully at ease as a small, single woman. Is this something I just either have to come to grips with or leave? Am I inflating the actual risks from just a few data points? I do struggle with anxiety so perhaps this is all just symptomatic of that.

I moved to the UES about a month ago. I’m 24 and my professional background is primarily in caregiving for people with special needs (~5 years), but for a variety of reasons, I’m trying to move away from that. I am very interested in breaking into the restaurant industry, but I’m finding it quite difficult with no prior experience or connections. I understand you can’t expect to be a server/bartender right off the bat, but I haven’t been able to land a hostess or barback job either.

I’m really just looking for any advice that might improve my chances. Best areas to look? Best kinds of restaurants? Best way to apply? Etc.

So far, my strategy has been to go to places in my area in person between 2:30-4:30 on weekdays and just ask if they’re hiring hosts or other FOH staff. Usually they are not hiring and if they are, they just tell me to leave a resume and say they’ll pass it along.

Do I just need to keep at it or are there things I can change that might help me? An employee at one of the restaurants I applied to said I’d probably have better luck in mid-September. Should I pause the search until then? I know very little about this stuff and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I got this gel bait but I am too scared to open cabinets and apply it inside or behind sinks yet so i applied it below door frames and in some hallways or wall corners, only did a mistake that i applied in thin lump/line (the amount of a pea tho but spread out)

how should i deal with the next couple of days and what should i expect before I’m done with them, will they be more over the place?

Anyone know of a vet clinic that does low cost euthanasia for guinea pigs, preferably in/around Brooklyn? My best friend's guinea pig has ovarian cancer and recent developed a bump on her back. She's already had to deal with her other two guinea pigs both passing from old age or illness, and she would want her last one to have a peaceful death. Is there ever an option to keep the body as well? Both of her other guinea pigs are buried upstate, and we would want her last one to rest with her sisters.

I noticed the other day that when I went to extend a existing session by 45 minutes, it wanted to charge me $6.50 but if I started a new session with the same zone, it was $4 for the same amount of time. This is very shady. Anyone else notice this? I was within the 2 hour parking limit for both extensions.

The city mandates that electronic waste like TVs be disposed of in a special manner, but there's only one drop-off zone in Brooklyn (and Brooklyn is HUGE) and it's almost an hour away by car. Best Buy will take it, but only if you pay 30.00 (they wont take it for free if the TV is not their brand, even though they sell TVs from other brands, like Samsung). Who would want to pay 30.00 to drop off a broken TV?

Maybe not a NYC question exactly, but I'm guessing other people have run into this before. My partner is newer to the city and is trying to put the square peg of suburban life into the circle of city life, so to speak. A giant box of holiday decorations that takes up half of one of our two closets, huge weekly grocery shops, multiples of the same kitchen gadgets, 3 suitcases, etc. We are looking for a new place together and she is not liking the places in our budget, mainly due to the lack of storage for things that, if we're being honest, she barely/never uses.

The issue isn't so much what the solution is (have less stuff, be cognizant of what you're buying, and get a few groceries on the way home from the train), it's more how do I help her adapt without it just coming off like me saying "you ain't in Kansas anymore toots, lose the crap." I grew up in the suburbs too, none of what she has/does would be crazy in a regular house. It's just not going to work in any apartment that we can afford.

We both love living in the city, I don't think the answer is to move to the suburbs. We just need a bit of a come to jesus moment about how we do some things differently in NYC.
