Question Starter, definitive, or base game version for new player with current steam sale?
Played once with a free trial forever ago, wondering if the DLC is substantial or not worth it.

Discussion Didn't like HK1 but I have hopes about HK 2
I really wanted to like HK1 but I hated the fame system and I found military combat frustrating and terribly slow. U_U
For HK2 I have my fingers crossed for the game to not blueball you with era stars before advancing to the next era, and for cmbat to last just 3 rounds in 1 turn or something like that, so it's not such a huuuuge commitment.
But I mean. If HK2 doesn't do either of those things that's fine too I guess. It's not the end of the world if im not the target audience lol I can always go back to Civ V or VI.
But one can hope. :')
I'm sure that someone who actually enjoyed HK1 and played it more thoroughly has way deeper and more insightful thoughts about how HK1 can be improved but for me those 2 things were the dealbreakers. U_U

Discussion Idea for Humankind 2
Hey everyone. With the Humankind 2 announcement and the devs mentioning upcoming playtests, I couldn't wait to share an idea I’ve been thinking about.
My favorite part of the first Humankind was the combat system, and I think adding historical "Hero" units (like 3 unique historical figures per culture) would add a ton of depth.
How would we get them in-game? I see two ways:
Option 1 (My favorite): Events and choices.
An event pops up based on your political focus or what your empire currently needs. You get to pick one of three heroes. Each one gives your civilization a different permanent buff, on top of their actual presence on the battlefield.
Option 2: Veterancy upgrades.
Expanding the combat star system. Your best unit, once it hits max level, gets the option to upgrade into a hero (depending on its movement type). Honestly though, I think this second option makes more sense for a regular general or promotion system rather than unique heroes.
Why do I think this is totally doable? Amplitude already did something similar with heroes in Endless Legend 2. The foundation is there, they’d just need to adapt the mechanics to Humankind's historical vibe.
What do you guys think? Would you want historical figures leading your armies, or do you prefer a different approach for the sequel?
(I used ChatGPT's image generation to illustrate the hero mechanic in the attached images, just because it was the quickest and easiest way I know to get the idea across!)

News Celebrating 5 Years of Humankind: Past, Present, and Future
It has been just over five years since the release of our first historical strategy game, HUMANKIND™, and just over 7 since we first revealed it. Thanks to all of you who have been supporting us over the past years!
Some words from our Founder and CEO, Romain de Waubert de Genlis
Five years on, HUMANKIND demonstrates the power of collaboration between developers and players. We've learned enormously from our community throughout this journey, and their feedback has helped shape the game into what it is today. What makes this milestone especially meaningful is that HUMANKIND started as a dream project for the team. Seeing it grow, evolve, and find its audience over the past five years has been an incredible journey. This anniversary is both a celebration of the past and a commitment to the future. As a studio, we've never been more excited about what's ahead, with new experiences and initiatives already taking shape for HUMANKIND and beyond
The next chapter is just beginning, and we can't wait to share what's coming next with our players.
Let's take a quick look at the past 5 years:
Many of you got to play the game before it released, and your feedback in that time and after has been invaluable to us. But the release was only the beginning, and we have since then improved the game with numerous updates and expanded it with some DLC.
Over the course of 15 major updates, we overhauled multiple gameplay systems to improve your enjoyment of the game, from expanded interactions with Independent People, to a reworked resource and trade system, to greater variety in naval battles. We've also expanded the original roster with more cultures, for a total of 86 unique cultures from around the globe!

And something we say in the video...
WE ARE NOT DONE YET
See you very VERY Soon™!

Question Tips for an RTS newbie?
This is my first ever RTS, and I played a small bit of the tutorial months ago, didn't know what I was doing, stopped for the night and intended to pick it up later, then I didn't. I got the interest back after seeing someone on YouTube who does a lot of funny RTS videos, but realized: he's doing a lot more than what I was.
I tried to be warlike, but a neighbor had more advanced units and I have no clue how (I still basically only had the default hunters). When's a good time to build a military? Is warring what a newbie like me should even focus on, or should I do a different kind of "build," so to speak? I *do* wanna get into this genre, but I just need a helping hand. If the advice is simply "throw yourself against the wall until it breaks," then I'll do that too, I've played Hades and Dark Souls before I'm no stranger to that method. Thanks for any help in advance.
EDIT: What excellent timing lmao

Discussion There really needs to be a 'build nothing ' feature
In the endgame there really needs to be an ability to do something like that. It's kind of annoying to be unable just set cities to something repeatable when you have built everything

Question Time to get into Humankind?
Apologies if you're sick and tired of these kinds of posts :(.
Anyways, I was wondering if it's time to get in, now that it seems that this is the final iteration of Humankind?
Things to note: I love civ switching, and it's part of the reason I got Civ 7 on its first sale (partly also the fact that Civ has always seemed "safer" as a bet). No worries about that.
I do worry that there might still be a lot of unfixed bugs.
Avatars sound interesting, but I heard you can't play against a cast of avatars you design on your own, which was a bit of a turnoff for me.
I like playing SimCity style games where I focus on beautifying and polishing a few select cities with wonders, can I do that in HK?

Question Weird ransacking behavior?
Hi can someone describe to me why this happened?
Turn 1: Ransacking city and nextdoor admin center, done in 1 turn each
Turn 2:
-City gets ransacked fine, Admin center gets ransacked
-but a new outpost is built right under my unit by black.(black was the previous owner)
-Then when my unit retreats they immediately upgrade it to a city :(
?????????
This game makes me so confused sometimes, how could an outpost be built under my unit?

Question Is ransacking worth it to invest?
So we know how powerful ransacking is in Civ6, but when I do it in Human, its always just a disappointment. Few turns for some garbage resources?
Ive never tried the ransacking cultures. Can you tell if they are good?
EDIT: By ransacking cultures i mean for example Assyrians with straight bonuses to ransack.

Misc Need Humankind 2
I just want to take a minute and express appreciation for how good this game is. Disappointing it never gained as much traction as Civ has in its lifetime and I’ll be severely disappointed if a Humankind 2 never gets made.

Question Need help understanding argentinians
Hi. I just ended a war and i'm trying to improve economically since the war was expensive. I'm trying to understand what does the "saladero" do but I don't really get it. It says that it helps with the consumption of units, but how does that actually affect in the game? Like, is my gold mantainance a 10% cheaper? I think either the word "consumption" (consumo in spanish) is quitte broad, I don't know the consumption mechanic yet or there's a translation mistake. It also says that is a economic civilization, but where is the impact on economy? Is the extra slot for citizens and the economic ability enough to replace a disctric of another economic civilization? Tnx in advance :).

Discussion Check out my new mod: First Pick and Era Stopper - Nation Difficulty
Ever wanted to be the first to pick a new nation and decide when the new era is started, but with a higher difficulty than Hamlet or Town?
Well now you can with my new mod! The mod uses the "Town" AI settings but gives the AI "Nation" difficulty bonuses to Food, Production, Money, Influence and Faith. Additionally the AI gets a catch-up amount of science, if behind in technology. If you want you can even wait until every AI has caught up in science before advancing to the next era.
Enjoy:

Discussion I made a small mod that allows you to pick the cultures first and control when the AI enters the new Era with you. I am happy to get some feedback wheyher anyone is interested in a public version on the steam workshop.
I made a mod that allows you yo pick the first culture and control when a new era begins. Usually this restriction is available in the game difficulties "Hamlet" and "Town". However those games felt a bit too easy and the ai could never really keep up so I tried to modify the difficulty settings. The problem is that the AI restrictions of not being able to pick a culture before you are tied to the deeper Ai behavior mechancis that can't be modified by the modding tools provided (it was planned to add these but the new modding tools were sadly never released by Amplitude).
So instead i took the " Town" difficulty and changed the bonuses for human players, Ai factions and minor empires to the "Nation" difficulty. This means the Ai gets bonuses to their base yields (food, production, influence and faith) as well as extra science when falling behind, BUT the ai will still be forced to pick a culture after you and will also be less aggressive than normally, or in amplitudes words "Make some effort towards avoiding wars."
This is a workaround but in my games the AI still remains a threat with the game difficulty bonuses from "Nation" and still declares wars but it allows you to set the pace of the game by deciding when the AI is allowed to pick a new culture and enter a new era with you.
The mod works fine and I was wondering if there is some interest for this kind of mod, if so i will publish it to the steam workshop.

Question Estou quebrado
Antes estava tendo problemas com influência, agora eu estou virando mendigo.
Como posso resolver isso?😭

Screenshot Como resolver?

Question I don't understand... science?
Hi, I've done a few games and I noticed a trend where I usually struggle to keep up with the science of our history, like, i discover the combustion engine in the late 1900s, and my games finishes between 2100 and 2200 with full tech researched, and it feels wrong.
I come from Civilization (3 to 6) and I usually end up with rifles and planes in the late 1800s, not the other way around.
I consciously try to focus my builds on production and then science and try to have all the science buildings in every cities, have multiple science districts in every city/areas, so i can generate as much science points as possible, sign research treaties with allies, and city states and yet it feels like science is not coming as fast as it should be.
Or is it just a quirk of Humankind that science, like era, can be a bit weird in term of sync with the dates of our history?

Question Mod to keep previous civ's features when progressing era
I've always wanted a mod that would allow me to keep building the unique units, structures, etc of the civ I chose for my previous eras.
I'm supposed to be the same entity so losing knowledge of my own history doesn't make sense and many of these structures are things you'll want to build consistently as you expand.
I know it'll be kinda broken, but it should go both ways. Especially since some structures are already limited to 1 per city.
I just wanna try it.
Does anyone know a mod that does this?

Misc Humankind. Ancient Era Timeline (Work in Progress)
I tried to show the Civilisations of the Ancient Era. I will try to one of these for each Time Period.
Criticism is very welcome ! I was not always sure which Dates to you. Like for "Hittites" i picked the Hittite Empire, but one could also add the Late Hittitie Period to the Graph. And the Ingame Encyclopedia places them even earlier.
Or should the Nubians have their start at the Nubian Kingdom ?
And with some Civs, i didnt know which Dates you use in General.
