Any other Ecampus students living in Corvallis who stick to online classes? I feel like in-person classes cost too much, but I really miss the social aspect. Since I live alone and do temp work, it gets pretty lonely and I've been wanting to go back to a physical classroom. Do you guys think the in-person experience is worth the extra money? Any advice is appreciated!

Hello! I currently have a fjallraven kanken backpack for everyday use. I love it, and I have waxed the outside to make it a bit more water resistant, but it’s only practical in the summer. During any heavy rainfall it gets soaked after a few minutes. It also is a bit too small to comfortably fit my laptop which I’ll want to bring for classes. I’m curious to hear what backpacks other students have been successfully using.

Ideally it would be completely waterproof, have a 16 inch laptop compartment, and is comfortable and light enough to easily commute with via bike. I’ve read a lot of reviews for bags that fit this criteria but I’m more interested in the what other OSU students actually use when walking around campus.

Hello! So, I’m a junior in college and I’ve been eyeing OSU as one of my top choices for applying for graduate school (I want to go for either ecology, forestry, entomology, or some mix of all 3 if possible). Are the ecology/forestry/entomology/environmental sciences programs there any good?

For my background, come all the way from Tennessee and, bluntly put, a very poor family currently on the verge of eviction. But I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to make it this far in college and even get accepted into a paid internship.

I really want to go to OSU, and my hope is to have my tuition waived and to either get a Teaching Assistantship Grant or a Research Assistantship Grant and to get a monthly stipend. I plan on applying for the NSF GRFP as well, and if need be, I’m willing to try to get an on-campus job if it’s possible.

But I need to know what it’s actually like for someone like me to go to OSU for grad school. Is it hard to get in? What’s the quality of life there? I’d basically have to live there for at least 2 years surviving off a graduate stipend. I’m willing to do it, but I need to know my basic living expenses would be covered. You know, rent, utilities, food, gas, car insurance, health insurance, school supplies and any fees that would need to be covered, that sort of stuff. How’s the housing market? Is it cheaper to try to live on campus or off campus, how feasible is it to find roommates, what kind of housing should I look for? Would I need parking passes or a meal plan, and if so would that be covered by a graduate stipend?

Sorry if these are a lot of technical questions, I’m just trying to weigh my options practically. Basically… what is it like to live on a graduate stipend at OSU? Is it enough? Is it doable? And if I went there, would I need to get a summer job or are stipends like that usually for the full year? If you’re like me and you go to OSU as a master’s degree student… are you happy? Are you financially safe?

I’m an out of state student that isn’t used to the weather in the PNW. Is there anything I need to be prepared for/should have before I move to Corvallis? Ie rain jackets, waterproof backpack covers, rain boots, snow gear, ETC??

The friends I made my freshman year entirely consisted of upperclassmen, and now that I’m going into my senior year I don’t have a single friend still left in Corvallis haha. It’s been a really boring summer and spent most of it just playing with my cat and going to work but I haven’t hung out with somebody not from tinder in months. Anyone happen to know the dimensions of the quad rooms in McNary? Our understanding is that they were converted from lounges and we can’t find anything on the website. I don’t want to get an air purifier that’s too small. Also are there two or four closets and desks?

Where would you recommend I get a bike once I’m there? I’d prefer to have one ASAP, any local businesses or methods you recommend for something cheap? Thanks!

This is a very niche question but, has anyone with a full ride scholarship been able to get meal plan one on their coa? I've been trying but they won't add it unless a have a medical reason for it. If that's completely impossible to do, which meal plan is included on the coa? I have asked and no one has given me a clear answer.

Hello! I'm Russian and I want to enroll at oregon state uni next year.
To be honest, I'm a little worried about the environment.
I've never been to America before, so I don't know how Americans treat foreigners, especially Russians, u know.
Of course, I'm not going to discuss politics-on the contrary, I always avoid it-but I'm really worried that I might be treated with bias(( i also wanted to ask, are there a lot of students from the CIS at OSU?

oohh and one more thing that im afraid of is passive bullying because of my english… i mean…. it’s a little bit hard for me to speak fluent and i heard a lot of history that i can face with bullying from natives because of that and + my accent

I live pretty close to OSU, it's roughly a 10 minute drive or 15 minute bike ride. I could get a decent road bike for around $100 and not have to worry about parking or getting a pass, but I'd hate to bike through the rain during Fall and Winter terms. An annual B lot pass is around $575 but I wouldn't have to worry about weather or biking home in the dark. I could also keep my work stuff in my car and just go to work straight from school. But I've heard finding parking can be rough even with a pass.

Any opinions either way?

This'll be my first year at OSU. I work evenings (4pm-11pm) and I'd like to meet people organically instead of through dating apps. I have some friends who regularly go ballroom dancing, and I'll be 21 soon. I'm trying to figure out my work schedule, should I leave Wednesday nights open for dancing or Saturday nights open for hitting up bars?

When attempting to purchase a parking pass, I couldn’t interact with the page due to bad connection. Now I am on the waiting list. I am a first year student living in dorms. Am I screwed? I really needed to buy one and I’m worried I won’t find a place to park it long term.

The housing and dining services said they were "stacked" with room change requests and I have been calling constantly since I would like to know what the heck my room will be since I got an economy triple in Wilson(which I do not want). Should I escalate as they have not been giving me straight answers as to when I will know and if I will even get my desired roommate?

Im an incoming student to OSU in the fall and I plan on commuting. What is the parking situation like? I’ve heard horror stories of students waiting hours to find parking (not specifically at OSU). Also, any parking pass recommendations? I’m mostly taking forestry classes this term.

New employee at OSU living in the Philomath area. If I am mostly around the MU area of campus, what permit should I get? There’s a huge price difference between the B and C permits. The C lots look really far but will B even have spaces by 8:30am?

Incoming freshman parent here. My student and I are t getting any emails from OSU billing portal re: tuition bills etc. I can’t see any notification settings either. Can someone share what we need to do to get emails about due dates etc? TIA!
