Opinion To a supposed Seahawks fan at Angry Goat in Ogden, Utah this past Saturday night:

Upvotes

Dear fan impersonator,

There are very few things in my life going right currently.

My fridge leaked into my entire house and I moved between 5 different Airbnbs with my family in the span of 2 months. My boss is a raging jerk. My dog just badly hurt her leg. The world is in a pretty concerning state on the whole.

But the ONE THING I have in my life right now as an escape is Seahawks fandom and the 12s.
The interconnectedness of being away from my home state and randomly running into other fans is the best. We are one! No matter where I go, I can always count on the Seahawks fandom to pick me up.

Anyway, you had a Seahawks hat on at the bar at Angry Goat and you looked bummed. Maybe you had a rough day too. Maybe your fridge also leaked into your house and you’re moving between five Airbnbs, in which case, damn, I feel ya.

So me, being the dutiful 12 that I am, made eye contact with you on the way out and said, “Go Hawks!!” I was trying to provide you with the same little escape that I rely on.

And what did you do? Nothing. That’s what you did.

You did not say “Go Hawks” back like a normal functioning 12 with at least one brain cell. Nope. You looked at me, kind of rolled your eyes, and gave me a sarcastic thumbs up.

To which my table of friends (rightfully so) died laughing at me after you walked off.

This group has some Bills fans, and they assured me this would NEVER happen with other Bills fans. And you know what? They’re right.

To all the 12s out there: if you are ever, and I mean EVER, wearing anything even TANGENTIALLY related to the Seahawks, you are legally, ethically, morally, contractually required to say “Go Hawks” back. Even if you’re just wearing green or blue. Even if you’re eating skittles.

If you ignore a “Go Hawks,” you will be forever cursed with bad luck for the rest of your life. My already deflated self is now the brunt of group jokes, and “Go Hawks” will now be used against me as a friend-group meme for years.

So, Angry Goat guy, if you’re out there: I’m disappointed in you. Be better!

And to everyone else,
GO HAWKS!!!!!

Sincerely,
A loyal 12

Discussion The Seahawks really said "you're cut... but don't go anywhere"

Final roster cuts and the whole practice squad system seem kind of funny.

Trevon Diggs gets released, clears waivers, and now he's right back with Seattle on the practice squad.

For people who actually follow roster construction closely... How often do practice squad guys realistically end up mattering during the season?

Opinion Avery Smith, the DB's and the Fleury "mystery"

Upvotes

The team trading for Avery Smith and not keeping Noah had me recalling some reporters comments before the Tennessee game (I think) about how the team planned to work both Noah and Pritchett at NB as I don't think they liked what they were seeing thus far. Pritchett really isn't a NB - he's an outside CB, and they obviously weren't confident in Noah there either. With the subsequent injury to Bud Clark, the trade for Smith makes even more sense. After reviewing his preseason and Toledo highlights (context - I'm not watching "film" and I'm just a goober-fan, fwiw), I think he may possess more potential in that aggressive NB spot the way MM likes it played, including blitzing and run pickup.

In addition, I think the trade helps them with the loss of Bud Clark - yes, different positions but I think they wanted to use Clark in multiple places as he progressed, including some at NB, never mind the energy he brought to the table. It's been a muddle getting there, but I'm seeing the beginnings of the DB room taking form. We have to see them play, of course, and we all have questions about how well Pritchett will hold up and how much Diggs ultimately contributes.

I also cannot wait to see how MM deploys T. Knight along with Nick in his varied looks. We know he's gonna change things up, keep morphing and adjusting and growing to confuse the hell out of offenses and coaches (cue slightly evil chuckle...).

On the offensive side of the ball, there are niggly worries about the "unknown Fleury," and his lack of availability makes it even harder to get a feel for things from afar. It's also really difficult to assess much about play-calling in the pre-season. I'm guessing that, much like last season, we may experience some fits and starts in the first few games while everyone finds their groove.

The big difference this year? The offensive group itself is already cohesive - they are not new to one another like last year, they don't have to build chemistry from scratch, they have a year in a similar system together. I'm hoping that makes their transition to Fleury's play-calling a smoother process.

Memorabilia Jersey Revision

I’d like to get an Emmanwori name badge added to my #3 jersey. Where can I get this done and how much does it cost? Do they just go over top the other name or is that one removed first? Thanks!

This is somewhat surprising. I thought we’d be higher. I do notice that it starts after the incredible 12-14 drafts we had.

So I bought one of these media day half zips for a friend but he had already snagged one so I threw it in the back of the closet where it was entirely forgotten about until… now.

I know these were hard to find but I got it on sale for 125 so I want to pass it on. Happy to meet up at the season opener next Wednesday or mail it for an extra 10. Size 3XL.

Still very amazing how John Schneider persuaded Hall into signing just 42M/3Y😲

Even if his snaps weren't high, 25-year-old Hall's efficiency is apparently high.

Stood out during playoffs as well, especially inside Super Bowl LX.

BTW Bengals paying 28-year-old Boye Mafe 60M/3Y looks quite......risky.

Opinion There’s a good chance Tyrice Knight is going to be heavily featured in the rover defensive role this season.

Post image

With Emmanwori slowly recovering from ankle surgery, and with veteran Bell and — to a lesser extent — early down slot defender Igbinoghene off the roster, it’s the biggest indication yet that the coaching staff is going all-in on Knight to play a breakout role as a rover defensive chess piece this season. This was perhaps already obvious to some before Knight’s masterclass performance in the preseason.

Even after Emmanwori returns, they may share playing time in the rover defensive role as Emmanwori is eased back. Then they may want to figure out ways to get them both on the field at the same time with Knight playing more on the edge and in the box on early downs. Also, if Knight has the breakout start to the season we hope he does, some fans are probably going to want a cool, Seahawky name for this position. May I suggest Hawk-backer or Hawk-rover?

News Runners-Up Offered Seahawks Stake After Losing Out on Team

The Khosla-led ownership group could add investors from the runner-up bidding group that it beat out to purchase the team, a source told FOS. The other finalist in the bidding, FOS previously reported, was a group headed by Aditya Mittal and Wyc Grousbeck.

Members of the Mittal-Grousbeck bidding group have had discussions about the possibility of joining the Khosla ownership group, two sources said. One of those sources said the members of the runner-up group had been invited to join. Following the publication of this story, a second source confirmed the conversations but said they were initiated by members of the Mittal-Grousbeck group. It’s not clear which investors, if any, have agreed to join.

I'm an older zoomer—1998, to be precise—so I'm old enough to remember our first run. As for Rashid Shaheed, he takes me back to my teen years with Percy Harvin... but even better this time. 😎
