OG Pressing Nirvana’s “Bleach” – first black 1989 pressing

My mother in law was a punk in the 1980s and picked up a bunch of records through her subpop subscription. When I started collecting she let me have a look through hers and very generously gifted me this beauty.

As far as I can tell Bleach had a 1,000 white vinyl run, followed by a 2,000 black vinyl run. This belongs to the latter.

Super slick condition for an almost 40 year old record. One of my favourites.

Walls & Bridges.

John Lennon.

This is my favorite Lennon album and absolutely perfect for a Monday night spin.

It’s hard to even pick a favorite song from this album, they are all that good… must have been that “Lost Weeknd”

OG Pressing OG '97 copy, scored!

NM copy scored at my local shop for a nice price and couldn't be happier, such an early press that it was pressed with the promo plate and matrix numbers scratched out before they added the main production ones. 🫶

Not one, but two pretty expensive original Samhain records damaged horribly. I am the seller, shipped media mail with no insurance. Sucks to have lost the sale, the original cost of the records, but really, the thing that actually hurts more is there are now 2 less copies of Samhain vinyl which haven't been officially reissued since the 90s. Feels like a crime that I had to pay the shipping for this to happen.

Rock Playing some Rebel Yell today, from the amazing Billy Idol (my favorite artist). I wasn't alive when this came out, but great music lasts forever! I first got this album as a teen on CD. This is an OG pressing, I also have the recent reissue.

Perusing Discogs and all I can say is, looking at the before/after activity of her catalog, take my advice and buy your favorite Willie Nelson records now. This feels insensitive to post, but thought worth sharing. RIP Dolly, you were an incredible songwriter and human.

Here is D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L by Panchiko.
Bought it mainly because it’s just a good album to put on and spin while you’re doing whatever.

I’m assuming probably everyone on Earth found out about them because of the whole 4chan thing, and somehow I didn’t lmao.

This is a real pretty pressing, and it sounds pretty awesome, and that’s all I can ask for. The only gripe I have is that some of the PVC wasn’t cut off the sides that well, but it doesn’t affect anything.
Bought it from the band’s Bandcamp like 3 weeks ago.

Collection Organised. Finally. Best thing I (eventually) did.

Post image

I finally got around to organising my records some time ago, and I’ve since realised how useful it’s been in making sense of my musical journey. It’s definitely reached the point where I need to be far more restrained in what I buy, but that in itself has become a useful exercise in "curation".

Also, if you’re just starting out: for the love of God, it’s never too early to catalogue!

Haul Yeah, it was back to the flea market for some more Tom Waits ...and some Creedence, among others

As in my previous post's comments people seemed to lean pretty unanimously on not leaving those remaining Waits records in the local flea market - not surprisingly - and I definitely felt that way too over the weekend, so I headed back there. Thankfully they were still there, so I snagged all three I didn't have already (so, Rain Dogs remained behind for someone else to pick up).

Also got the Stevie Ray Vaughan record from the same crate, and while looking around, I also spotted some Doors and Creedence that I just couldn't leave there.

All in excellent condition, save for the CCR that has some scuffs on both sides, but at least that was reflected in the price. Here's to hoping it's just superficial cosmetic wear and doesn't affect playback too much.

Haul Vinyl Haul in Barcelona/Catalunya: my favourite finds

Thumbnail

I visited six different record stores during my vacation in Catalonia: five in Barcelona and one in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

I was mainly looking for Spanish and Catalan releases, both new and used.

Here are a few of my favorite finds.

Falcons is a funky, cosmic group from Mallorca; I found the 7-inch single at Angelita Records.

El Aviador Dro is a Madrid-based group from the 80s. They play a fairly raw synth-pop, quite similar to early Human League or Kraftwerk records (found at Barcelona City Records).

Los Cheyenes is a beat/garage band from Barcelona; their 7-inch singles are quite hard to find and often excellent. One of the best groups in this style in Spain. I found the record at Discos Redondos.

Another find at Discos Redondos: an LP by Toti Soler. Toti Soler is a Catalan guitarist inspired by flamenco and bossa nova. Magnificent album.

A new reissue of Vainica Doble's first album from EGE Botiga. A cult Spanish duo, very interesting music, worth discovering!

An excellent 70s album by Catalan singer Pau Riba, rock with influences like Lou Reed. Found (used) at EGE as well.

A 45 rpm record by the Andalusian group Smash. Pioneers of Andalusian rock, but in their early days they played energetic heavy psych! Found at EGE.

A 45 rpm record by La Mosca, a short-lived group produced by Los Pekenikes. Very good in the hard rock/latin rock genre too, with organ. Found at EGE.

Do I even need to introduce the Argentinian Charly Garcia? Perhaps his best-known solo album. It has just been reissued by the Spanish label Munster, and I found the reissue at Kebra Disc.

Solera's only album is a marvel of post-Beatles pop influenced by CSN&Y. Found used at Angelita Records.

The Ros 7-inch single is a highly sought-after record in Spain. Here is the recent reissue on Munster. Magnificent for those who love sixties soul. Found new at Angelita Records.

Another find at EGE: a new reissue of Triana's "El Patio," a classic of Andalusian rock and a marvel of spanish progressive rock.

Pata Negra's first album, a new reissue found at Revolver Records. A cult flamenco group in Spain. This album by the group is quite different and features magnificent instrumental flamenco pieces.

Last picture is all my summer finds :)

EDIT

Adresses:

  • Angelita Records, Carrer dels Terrissaires, 15, 08800 Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona
  • Discos Redondos Carrer de Sant Vicenç, 33, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona
  • Barcelona City Records, C. de Jerusalén, 32, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona
  • Revolver Records, Carrer dels Tallers, 11, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona
  • Kebra Disc, Carrer de les Sitges, 3, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona
  • EGE, la botiga, Carrer de Benet Mercadé, 22, baixos 1ª, Gràcia, 08012 Barcelona.

Collection Some new releases and reissues I got these last few months

Post image
11 Upvotes

It's been awhile since I checked in with this community, but I was recently sorting some stuff I hadn't properly put away since it arrived and figured I'd share.

Charlie XCX - been a fan of hers for awhile and I'm definitely enjoying this newest album. Rock Music was, I think, the first single released and it remains my favorite track, but I've had the album on repeat many times the last few months.

Electriclarryland has been on my want list for years but I could never bring myself to spend the hundreds on it, so it got the 2026 repress for 10s instead. Felt surreal to finally be holding it in my hands after the hundreds of Discogs emails showing copies for sale for $200+.

Mos Def's The Ecstatic is my favorite hip hop album of all time and one of my favorite albums period regardless of genre. It was essentially my introduction to rap music. Blew my mind when I was 14 and blows my mind now.

I got me a Gorillaz picture disc so I could have a little wall art. I have another non-picture disc copy of The Mountain as well. Like many fans, Plastic Beach was a bit of a magnum opus for me; however, my experience with The Mountain has been very similar. But it makes sense since it contains a lot of unused Plastic Beach material.

Dorian Electra's Flamboyant is something I've been after for awhile but never pulled the trigger. I met them once before a show and got a picture. Always wanted to try again to get them to sign an album but haven't gotten around to it just yet.

Finally Future Island's latest release. Overall, a great listen, but Sail is the song that keeps me coming back. Something in the way Sam's voice moves throughout that song really hits every time.

Anywho, for me it's been a fairly long period of time where I feel like I've neglected this whole record collecting hobby but I felt like I got some cool stuff the last few weeks and wanted to share.
