Mod Post Subreddit Rules CLARIFIED
The Mods have returned and we've worked this week to rewrite the subreddit rules to better explain what each one means. This post will be locked from discussion as it just meant to serve as a reference point for the rules in place for the community Please see the linked post in the comment below for the discussion. Thank you for your patience during "chaos week". Please know that the Mod Team saw everything and stepped in only where it was absolutely necessary.
- Be Kind and Courteous: This rule *should* be self explanatory. In case it isn’t, follow the Golden Rule and treat others how you would want to be treated.
- Comments that are mean, hurtful, and/or harassing towards OP, the mod team, or another user will result in a 3-day ban from r/crochet. Do it again when the ban is lifted, 7-day ban. Continued negative comments after the 2nd chance will result in a permanent ban from this community.
- Permanent bans can be appealed but it will be at the discretion of the mod team, and will be dependent on behavior during the ban. Accounts with hidden profiles will not be eligible for being unbanned.
- Ban evasion goes against Reddit ToS, which all users agree to upon sign-up. See rule 11 for more info.
- We are bound by Moderators Code of Conduct to ensure that this space is a positive experience for everyone. That includes shutting down conversations that devolve into insult-flinging and inciting violence in any way. It also includes locking posts that have (or have the potential to) become unruly and wildly off-topic.
- Comments that are mean, hurtful, and/or harassing towards OP, the mod team, or another user will result in a 3-day ban from r/crochet. Do it again when the ban is lifted, 7-day ban. Continued negative comments after the 2nd chance will result in a permanent ban from this community.
- Do not share copyrighted material: Don’t share screenshots of a pattern you bought or obtained for free from a website. Instead link directly to the website it was purchased from. If it is your own pattern, please see Rule 4.
- Use the NSFW filter *generously*: we are not censoring anyone's bodies with this rule. We are providing a safe space for anyone anywhere to view the feed. If you can’t show it at the office or at school, it should be filtered.
- This includes but is not limited to: revealing clothing, profanity, weapons and drug paraphernalia.
- NO Self promotion except in the monthly Promo Megathread: Sellers can post *pictures* of their work with tasteful, unobtrusive watermarks. Watermarks are encouraged to be used by all users to deter images being stolen by bots or scammers.
- We don’t allow sellers to share links to their shop/website/blog/social media EXCEPT in the Monthly Buy/Sell/Promote/Trade Megathread. This is a pinned post on r/crochet.
- Self promotion includes, but is not limited to, mentioning your shop/etc by name or offering to DM others or be DM’d by others with the express intent on sharing the info, or directing users to your profile for links. If anyone is truly interested in finding your work, they will know where to look.
- The Megathread refreshes automatically every month, and links can be posted there as often as you wish (please don’t spam it).
- Please do not promote on behalf of someone else as it still directly impacts the seller, even if they don’t use Reddit.
- We don’t allow sellers to share links to their shop/website/blog/social media EXCEPT in the Monthly Buy/Sell/Promote/Trade Megathread. This is a pinned post on r/crochet.
- Fursday Friends- Please post pictures of your crochet *helpers* on Thursdays only (timezones are taken into consideration)
- If you made an item for your dog/cat/lizard/toddler/teenager, and they are modeling it, you can post those pics on any day of the week.
- If your furry friend is in the background of your pic and obviously not the focus of the pic, you can post it any day of the week.
- If Fido or Fluffy decided that your WIP is the best place to take a nap, please wait to post that pic on Thursday.
- We prefer it if minor’s faces are blurred or otherwise covered for privacy.
- Stash Saturday- Please post stash pics on Saturdays only (timezones are taken into consideration)
- Stash pics include but are not limited to yarn hauls, hooks, tools, books, and crafting spaces.
- Focus on the crochet, not the model: Modeled photos are great, especially for wearables! Please ensure that the focus of the image is on the crochet work, though, and not on the model or the poses.
- The crochet work should be clearly seen (close ups whenever possible). See rule 3 if necessary.
- This also applies to comments that focus on someone’s body rather than the crochet work. Negative or derogatory comments made against OP or someone else will be subject to Rule 1.
- Please post questions in r/CrochetHelp: This is not a “beginner’s only” subreddit. Crocheters from all skill-levels can get tripped up depending on the project! Whether it’s a poorly-written pattern, a long-forgotten WIP that needs stitch ID, or you’re looking for color or fiber suggestions. It’s also a great opportunity for those who are highly skilled at the craft to flex their expertise by answering questions!
- Most, if not all crochet-related questions should go to our dedicated help sub. Questions can get lost in the main sub.
- Questions include but are not limited to: “what can I make with this yarn?” “How do I fix this?” “Why is it curling?” “What should I get for my gf/wife who loves to crochet?” and questions about crochet-related pain (please seek actual medical advice for major or worsening pains!)
- Most, if not all crochet-related questions should go to our dedicated help sub. Questions can get lost in the main sub.
- Stale Topics: These are topics that have been over-discussed and are no longer active discussion topics.
- Stale topics currently include: Hobby Lobby’s business practices, Steering wheel covers, Selling advice (see rule 4), the “sweater curse”, Fast Fashion and rants about their costs, crochet-related pain/medical issues, Woobles kits, and AI (including suggesting its use in pattern help)
- No off-topic posts or comments: if it is not related to crochet, it is considered off-topic. Please find an appropriate subreddit for your post.
- Ban Evasion: please do not use or create alt accounts to get around a ban. This is against Reddit ToS and we will report this to the Reddit admin.
- No fund-raising or solicitation of goods or yarn: This includes asking for replacement yarn after theft or loss, requests for items for a charity/cause, offers or requests for trades. Please see r/craftexchange, r/yarnswap, or your local community’s subreddit for these kinds of requests. This also includes requests for commissions, see r/CrochetRequests for this.
- No Karma farming: Please don’t use r/crochet to earn “easy Reddit karma”. Please only post your own work made by yourself or someone you know.
- Please do not suggest the use of AI/ChatGPT for pattern creation or help: AI artificially creates crochet patterns and images that are very nearly impossible to replicate, and is becoming harder and harder to spot because of its overuse. We also ask that you don’t use it to enhance the backgrounds of your finished work either, as it takes away from the realness of crochet.

Finished Object I crocheted this cat ear hat from my own design
I crocheted this colorful cat ear hat using my own design! I came up with the shape, ears and braided ties myself, and I really love how it turned out. It has a slightly whimsical, fantasy vibe, which is exactly what I was going for.

Finished Object Finally finished this tapestry!!!
Last week I posted my progress from my first year of crocheting and a lot of you really liked this tapestry. That was the foot up the butt I needed to finally finish this! It spent about 8 months folded up in my cupboard after I had finish the piece itself and I’m so happy I finally get to display it :D
Actually quite happy with how it came out in the end! It has a bit of wonk to it just because it was my first tapestry I ever did and I would have liked to have found a darker dowel but I’m overall pleased :))
The last photo was me realising what fresh hell I had signed myself up for lmaooo

Work in Progress little update: you helped me with my bobble pillow set last week, so i redid the pale one as a gold star. now it's... REALLY a star. keep it, or go back to the cream snowflake?
a week ago i posted this cream-on-cream "snowflake or star" pillow that just would not pop, and the two bits of advice i kept hearing were either lean into the snowflake, or if you really want a star go bold with gold or yellow. so i frogged it and redid it in mustard. and now it's a star. it is VERY much a star, nobody is mistaking this one for a snowflake anymore 😅
here it is next to the tree and the reindeer, plus the original cream snowflake for comparison. i like the gold, i just don't love it, it might be a touch too look-at-me sitting next to the softer green and brown. so i really can't decide: does the bold gold star belong in the set, or was the quiet cream snowflake the right call all along?
(my assistant tyson was consulted and is, as you can see, no help whatsoever.)

Finished Object My crochet raffia bag
I crocheted this raffia bag about two years ago, and it’s still holding its shape pretty well! I keep an organizer inside, which helps a lot.
The bottom is all double crochet. I made two identical base pieces and layered them together to make it sturdier and better at holding weight.
Bag body I used a mix of double crochet and crossed double crochet.
The straps are also crossed double crochet, worked back and forth in row.
Hope this helps if anyone wants to make something similar! 😊
Yarn: raffia yarn
Hook: 3mm

Work in Progress 🌸🌸🌸What’s your preferred way of weaving ends?🥲😭😭
Hello good people!! Hope everyone is having a great time 🕊️🌈
I recently started this flower blanket, hoping i could hide the ends along the work. This is how i usually do things, so i don’t end up with an overwhelming amount of weaving in.
Unfortunately, i can’t do that with these flowers, there’s not enough pattern to securely hide all the ends. I hate it 😭
In order to not lose my mind, i decided to weave in every 10 flowers or so. I also tried weaving each flower before i actually attach it, but idk… i hate it either way and i needed to vent .
I love to make them and how they turn out, just hate the process of hiding unwanted ends🥲
I used a simplified version of the puff flower, as i didn’t want it to be chunky and i didn’t attach them in the usual beehive pattern either, just plain horizontal rows.
I’m using blended yarn with a 4 mm hook. No pattern.

Finished Object My first shawl, finished just in time for September to start
Had to extend the pattern because I have wide shoulders and it wasn’t hanging low enough for my liking. Also thought it would be cooler with an edging, rather than ending where the pattern stopped.
Haven’t blocked it yet, I was too excited and just wanted to wear it ☺️
It’s an autumnal day where I live, so if I can play violin with this on, I’m gonna wear it to teach my violin lessons later today 😊🎻🎶

Finished Object My first (successful) free handed project
I started crocheting in may this year while I was super pregnant and waiting for my baby. I have always wanted to get into some kind of fiber art and have always wanted to be able to make my own clothes, but I just never had time/energy/motivation to properly get started anywhere. I have tried knitting before, with varied success - but crochet is what finally clicked in my brain!
I have always loved to be creative and I love LOVE how this craft allows for immediate creative freedom even when following a pattern. It is just very intuitive for me! So I quickly started to try to make things myself. I was always a kid who HATED to draw within lines and wanted to do everything myself so finding a new hobby where I can start experimenting early has been key!
This shirt is my first piece of clothing that I have made entirly by myself without following a pattern - that I will actually use! It has really taught me a lot about why earlier patterns I have followed worked the way they did.
Anyway - it is not professionally made and with a ton of mistakes and trial and error, but I am really proud of it and wanted to share!!
Yarn: 100g 8/4 cotton.

Finished Object Super duper happy with how this turned out!!
I just put the finishing touches on this cardigan I made for my stepdaughter last night! Each cat square represents a cat she's owned, and I freehanded the paw prints as fillers!
Pattern for the cat squares is available for free online, joined using tight join as you go. Worsted weight acrylic yarn of various brands (this was a stash buster) and a size H/5mm hook. About 90 hours total over the course of a month. I'm super happy with it and my daughter is delighted ♥️

Work in Progress Looks nice or mouldy ham?
In progress bandana, my question is does it look like mouldy ham? 😂 on one hand I like the colours, on the other hand I feel like it looks like cheap ham that’s been forgotten in the back of the fridge for waayyy too long
Not the best pics but there’s one with and without flash
