Just spotted these new vending machines in the 23rd St RW station. They are encased in metal boxes to prevent theft/vandalism because we can't be trusted with anything nice 😭

Mamdani's office is spending tax dollars to run an undisclosed, state-backed influencer machine. Rather than facing tough questions from actual journalists, the mayor’s office is by passing local press to feed talking points to uncritical social media folks. Some of whom are receiving $5,000 to $20,000 city contracts without proper disclosures. Anyone here on reddit want to disclose something??

Brooklyn Navy Yard, a hub of waterfront warehouses, is facing pressure from locals to stop its electronic music programming.

Following complaints by neighbours, a letter written by City Council members Lincoln Restler and Crystal Hudson have asked events in the shipyard complex to stop, which includes the 5,000-capacity venue Brooklyn Storehouse. The letter states that the Council members have received "hundreds of complaints over the past few years."

"I don't want to sound like some curmudgeon," Restler told Gothamist. "But I don’t find these events to be consistent with the core mission of the Yard."

The warehouses regularly host all-night and after-hours events, which local residents say rattle homes and disrupt sleep, as well as bring excessive traffic and trash to the area. The Brooklyn Navy Hard Development Corporation says it is continuing to make changes based on concerns, but the City Council has threatened additional action.

MIDTOWN (WABC) -- A female stabbing victim and the woman who was shot by police on Monday afternoon in Times Square have died from their injuries, police sources told ABC News.

A male victim, who was also stabbed by the female suspect, is in critical condition, police said.

Police said a woman who appeared to be emotionally disturbed was threatening people with two knives and stabbed the man and woman near 42nd and Seventh Avenue around 4:26 p.m.

Then the woman fled north toward the NYPD substation where police confronted her, police said.

Police say the woman refused to put the knives down when police approached her.

Police fired shots at 4:27 p.m. striking the female suspect, police said.

The incident was initially reported as a knifepoint robbery but police now believe the emotionally disturbed person had no clear motive, police said.

Police are closing traffic from West 42nd street to West 47th Street as the investigation continues.

Figured I’d share this because I had no idea this existed until recently, and it might help some people here.
New York has a newer Medicaid program through the Social Care Network that can connect eligible Medicaid members with different types of support, including food/nutrition assistance, transportation, housing-related help, and more.
My wife recently qualified through one of the pregnancy/postpartum eligibility categories. The process was very simple, and she now gets free meals delivered throughout the week for the next six months.
This is separate from programs like SNAP and doesn’t replace or reduce those benefits. The sign-up process is also very simple.
There are a number of companies that help people sign up for these services. We used ccsscn.org, and they have a short questionnaire that helps you figure out if you may qualify.
There are other companies that offer this as well, but just wanted to share because I’m sure there are plenty of Medicaid members who could benefit and don’t know this program exists.

Zero’s Rescue Story

I found Zero in a critical, life-threatening situation: she was trapped behind a security gate on a bridge near my home, terrified and crying out for help. She was balanced on a narrow beam directly over heavy, speeding traffic with no way out. The police were called but were unable to assist and advised leaving her.

Knowing she wouldn't survive and could fall into traffic, I managed to reach through, create an opening, and talk to her. She was amazingly smart and brave, she trusted my voice, followed my guidance, and let me safely pull her out.

I brought her home, fed her, clipped her nails, and gave her a bath. Despite the ordeal, she allowed full handling with zero aggression, which made it clear she was not a feral kitten. The vet confirmed she is fully socialized, gentle, and was likely lost or abandoned (no microchip was found).  I reached out to a local rescues asking for help with finding her a home, but they told me they couldn't help me with anything so now I'm trying to rehome her myself. I have no experience with this so I'm trying my best for her.

 Why I Cannot Keep Her

• Resident Cats: I live in a small apartment with two adult cats who are bonded sisters. They do not like other animals, so Zero has to be kept completely quarantined in a single room to prevent conflict.
• Hardship: I am currently just having a hard time and simply do not have the resources, space, or long-term budget to support a third cat. I am also working the majority of the day, so she'd be alone a lot. She needs someone who can give her more time and attention.

I paid as much as I could to make sure Zero is healthy, tested, and vaccinated so she could have the best chance at life. She deserves a home where she doesn't have to live confined to a room and can get all the attention she needs!

My colleagues and I had to run resuscitation efforts on one of our own because we cant address one of the most dangerous pedestrian crossings in New York City. Jiayi Zheng died in the SICU anyway.

Maybe we can speed this project along before we continue to maim or kill an average of 1 person a month on this stretch alone. That's 48 people before it begins in 2030.

Clara Kang, another NYU Brooklyn RN died at the exact same intersection a few years ago.
