Canadian Sale VIN can't be found in carfax. Car is year: 2025

Upvotes

I am pretty worried currently. I recently bought a car and I received a clean carfax report dated 2025.

I didn't really notice the date of the report when I bought the car. Now I'm checking on my papers and noticing that the carfax report is dated 2025.

I went on carfax website to retrieve a recent carfax report to make sure that from 2025 to 2026 the car still shows a clean carfax but carfax can't find my VIN.

I've put that VIN number at least 10 times so I didn't make any typo error. The VIN number matches my car. The car is year 2025 so carfax should have it.

Have you come across this issue before?

What should I do?

US Sale ALM Vehicle Sales in Georgia

Upvotes

Looking for info in anyone who may have been experienced with a group ALM out of Georgia. They’ve got a crap ton of vehicles and one that id like to buy and work a deal on, but the online reviews and experiences say otherwise. Looking for first hand account if anyone has bought from them or interacted with them in any way.

Both of the vehicles I’m looking at are prior Canadian, and currently I’m seeing less retail on my vehicle for the same reason, so I’m concerned about buying another.

US Sale Can I just switch dealers?

Upvotes

I’ve started the process of buying a car. I went to the dealer, talked to a salesman about my preferences on the make/model/color etc.

The car I want isn’t readily available and it has been getting allocated. I got a text from the salesman last week telling me of an option he found that fits my preferences and he sent me the spec sheet. I was a little confused on the wording of the sheet, specifically about the port installed packages and accessories since it is notated as optional on the price sheet. I asked if those were items that I could still opt out of/ have adjusted.

His reply was that it could be requested, but it wasn’t guaranteed. I sent him a list of items I wanted to opt out of if possible and his response, 24 hours later, was “I don’t have a way to remove them. Just let me know if you want the vehicle.”

I found his reply to be rude in the moment, but after a little while decided to give him the benefit of the doubt since our interaction in person was laid back and low pressure. I said I would move forward because I did want the vehicle. He replied his manager would be calling to reserve the vehicle and he would update. I didn’t hear back from him until today, 4 days later, only for him to tell me they would know about allocations in the next few days and he would update me. Nothing about this specific vehicle he’d supposedly found and was supposed to be reserving.

So, I’ve continued checking inventory and I found that a dealership about an hour away has the make, model, trim, and color I want coming in within the next couple of weeks. At this point, I just want to jump ship and go to that dealer to get the car I want. I really don’t care to keep working with this guy, but I also don’t want to screw anyone over.

What do I do?

LEASE OR BUY?

Im looking for your insight Into what makes more sense and the most money saving advice.
I’m looking for a stingray corvette it doesn’t have to be a 2026.
I don’t want to really own it for ever, my goal is to either return it or sell it eventually. I don’t mind having it for 2-3 years and then getting rid of it. Point being I want to waste as little money as possible with this unnecessary purchase. Thank you for your input, treat this as if you had to choose one option rather than don’t waste your money on this car at all.

US Sale '26 Silverado

I'm looking at a new '26 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT regular cab, 4X4, 5.3 ecotec V8. It's on the lot and they're asking $42500. Is this time of year good for discounts? Google says dealers are looking to clear inventory for the new model year, I prefer to ask the guys that do it for a living.

Car lease question

If my lease has 15 months left but I am break even now, is there any reason to keep my car if I'm going to just hand it back? Seems like it would be stupid to wait 15 months for it and pay all that money to hand it back in 15 months the instead of getting a car now. I thought leases would be better since I don't really drive much but I'm going to buy my next car. Is there really any radon to keep it and wait?

US Sale How common for dealership to find the car after filling out app?

I’m in the Northeast and I’m looking for a specific spec that’s not very common. I’ve called several dealerships within a 200-mile radius, and some of them have them available but don’t want to talk numbers on the phone and others promised to find it for me. We discussed OTD numbers and got them in texts, but I haven’t received a VIN or window sticker yet. They asked to show my commitment by filling out an application before they can locate the specific car. However, I’ve been told that it will be available in this week. There are other dealers in the area with the car in transit, so i can just wait for those.

Is this normal, or do they just want me to be tied to the dealership without even having a car on-hand? What if they can’t locate it or come back saying they cant honor the deal? For reference, the ones in transit are about the same price.

Meta California salespeople, are you worried about the CARS Act next month?

I’m curious what everyone’s thinking, I haven’t read too deep into it but it seems like you can still do markups etc just need to be transparent about it online. I talked to a coworker that works at my last dealership (one of the biggest Toyota’s in SoCal) and they had a big meeting about it. Do you guys think this will be the downfall, and end up with no commission etc just a set wage?

Meta Is it possible to just move to another department from sales instead of just quitting?

Look i will keep it simple. I dont think it have it in me to be a car salesman. Its been 3 weeks. And I almost got fired because I refused to call or text a customer who requested to be contacted after walking out on my sale. So we agreed on a car she liked and would conider taking home but after time she walked out on finance.

But the reason I almost got fired is because I wanted to respect her wishes of contact and just gave her an email. And the Fishtank manager said and i quote" in the car buisness you can't have your integrity. Your integrity and this job can't co exist." And I told her I feel sorry for her. I did keep my job and the only thing that saved my ass is my my best friend came in and bought a car that day. Like how dramatic this got shocked me because I worked in construction so culture shock all things considered.

But I really like talking to customers. I like the overall car dealership. I just think maybe I have a line to draw in the sand. And I could possibly just do somthing else with them. But the reason. Im asking is because I don't understand white collar.

Question about buying out my lease

When I leased my car I listed both me and my husband's income on the application bc I wasn't working at the time, it is in my name only. When we finance can I do the same without him being on the loan? I now work, have a great credit score, his is not good, I don't want that to screw up my rate. Originally I was looking to buy a used car and asked the guy this question he said it was fine, but I'm getting differing answers when I Google it. This is through Nissan

Commission
30% of front-end commissionable gross on new and used vehicles.
$150 minimum commission (mini) on cash deals.
On finance deals only, the mini increases to:
$200 after exceeding 12 units
$250 after exceeding 15 units
$10/hour draw.
Monthly Volume Bonus (not cumulative — you only receive the highest tier reached)
12–14 units: $750
15–20 units: $1,750
21–26 units: $3,000
27+ units: $4,500

This pay plan just went into effect at the store I am at. I do work at a Nissan Store, been in the business for a year and a half and sell between 15-18 cars/ month. Looking for some opinions on this change!

US Sale What's with this new trend of large dealerships posting thirst trap reels of "sales girls"?

These weird shorts keep popping up in my FB feed, posted by large dealerships all over the country. Some are kinda funny - "sales girl" in short dress and heels firing a T-shirt cannon at the staff, while others are a little creepy - which Subaru trunk fits a woman's body the best?, a woman putting her heels on before she meets a customer, women posing suggestively with a car...They all look like models playing "hot office girl", not sales staff.

What's next? Every car purchase gets a trial OF subscription??

Is it possible to negotiate a lower sticker price for a car in exchange for a higher interest rate? I have a 820 credit score and I’d pay the car off in full after purchase.

The dealership wouldn’t know that I have the ability to pay the car off in full. I’d read the terms and make sure there is no penalty for prepayment.

US Sale Should I wait for Honda days?

Looking to get a Honda pilot by the end of the year. They are running a good apr deal right now but wondering if I should wait until Honda days to get a better Apr promotion? I’m in the Chicago area and obviously plan to finance.

Dealer told me I had to buy warranty/add-ons to get Subaru 0% APR. Is this normal?

I recently bought a new Subaru from a dealership in California.

During the finance process, I was told multiple times that I could only get the advertised 0% APR if I purchased an extended warranty and several additional protection products.

I specifically said I did not want those products. The finance manager basically told me that I could either pay money to the bank as interest, or spend that money on the warranty/add-ons and at least get something for it.

Based on that explanation, I agreed to the additional products because I believed they were required to receive the 0% financing.

The loan is now active through Subaru Motors Finance / Chase at 0.00% APR. The paperwork from Chase refers to dealer add-ons as “optional products.”

I like the car and I’m not trying to unwind the vehicle purchase. My issue is that I feel misled into buying thousands of dollars in products I repeatedly said I didn’t want.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Is it normal for a dealer to condition manufacturer promotional financing on buying optional products?

What would you do next - contact the dealership GM, Subaru of America, Chase/Subaru Motors Finance, or a consumer attorney?

I’m intentionally not naming the dealership at this point.

Canadian Sale 2016 BMW 535i. 117.000kms. Asking price is 23.500 CAD.

Dealership is in Calgary. I’m buying cash, and out of province.

I’m in no rush to purchase a newer vehicle. So waiting for a good deal.

Seller gives me 25k OTD price. The carfax shows 3 claims for 0$ (his justification is: scratches or dents)

Carfax estimates with VIN gives a private buying price between 15k - 17.7k.
And retail price between 18.3 - 21.4k.

To me the vehicle is worth max 18k. At that mileage. I’ve seen lower mileage and better exemplary at 15-17k. The reason why I’m not interested is that they are always missing 1 or 2 of my must-have options.

I told him that my budget is 18k OTD if vehicle is mechanically sound. I’ll fly there and drive back to my province.
I could stretch my budget to 20k if they can prove me that maintenance is up to date (existing records) and know issues of the N55 engine have been taken care of.

However his only response is that before purchase, the vehicle will be entirely serviced. (Which I do not believe). I’m ok paying a premium but not for a vehicle that’s being quicky setup for a sale.

I’m I reasonable in my negotiation?

Meta 22 and already at my 3rd dealership, am I wrong for wanting to leave the car business for a while?

For some context, I’m 22 and I’ve been in the car business since I was 19.

My first dealership was a small used car lot. I was there for a while and honestly loved selling cars. There was basically zero training, so I just figured shit out as I went. I learned how to talk to customers, make calls, negotiate, close deals, and generate my own business. I genuinely enjoyed coming to work and selling.

Eventually I left because I wanted somewhere with more opportunity and structure.

My second dealership was another used car store, but much bigger inventory and way more structure. I actually got real sales training there and learned a ton. The culture was good, I liked the people, and there was a lot more going on. The problem was the pay plan. It was genuinely one of the worst pay plans I’ve seen, and eventually I couldn’t justify staying.

Now I’m at dealership #3, another smaller independent store. I took the job because it seemed like a huge opportunity to learn the backend of the business. And to be fair, I HAVE learned a shit ton. I’m doing CUDL, submitting deals to lenders, selling warranties, structuring deals, desking, handling leads, inventory, advertising, etc. I’m basically getting experience with the entire dealership instead of only selling cars.

But I’m also pretty much helping run the lot. I’m dealing with vehicle check-ins, pictures/listings, social media, inventory, lot tech stuff, random errands and whatever else needs done. My responsibilities have also changed multiple times, and sometimes responsibilities get taken away without anyone really explaining what my new expectations are.

And honestly, I’m fucking miserable.

The store is extremely slow. I’m somebody who thrives when I’m constantly talking to customers, making calls, working deals and keeping that sales momentum going. There is no momentum here. More than half of the cars I’ve sold here have actually come from leads I personally generated through Facebook Marketplace.

The environment is probably the biggest thing though. It’s just negative. People talk about quitting, the owner talks about firing people, and the energy walking into work some days is fucking unbearable. I’ve literally had someone start yelling while I’m trying to desk a deal with a customer sitting there.

I’ve noticed myself changing too. I used to love talking to people at work and being involved in everything. Now I find myself sitting in my office, keeping to myself and sometimes almost dreading having to go talk about a deal. I’ve never had a job where I consistently woke up dreading going to work until this one.

The owner has also talked about potentially selling the dealership/doing something different with the place. If I’m trying to build repeat customers and build a career, it makes me wonder what exactly I’m sticking around to build.

I don't think these are bad people and I'm grateful for what I've learned here. I just don't think this is the place where I want to plant my feet.

The thing I'm struggling with is that this is already dealership #3 and I'm only 22. I don't want to become the guy who leaves every time a job gets difficult. At the same time, I know what it feels like to actually enjoy selling cars because I've had that before, and this feels completely different.

Part of me wants to try a high-volume franchise store and finally see what I can do with consistent traffic and leads. Another part of me thinks maybe I should step away from the car business for 6 months or a year, try selling something else or do something completely different, and see if I actually miss it.

I still love sales. I love negotiating, working deals, getting approvals and making shit happen. I just don't know if I love the car business anymore, or if I've just ended up at the wrong dealership.

For the people who have been in the business a long time: would you stick this out because of the backend experience I'm getting, try a franchise store, or get out for a while and experience something else at 22?

US Sale Selling totaled car in Texas

Crashed my car, didn’t have insurance, so it’s been sitting in my driveway for months. Someone wants to buy it, they know it’s fucked. Do I have to go through the whole process of changing the title to salvage or can I sell it with the clean title? A mechanic never looked at it after the crash, but it can’t drive.

Copart vehicle not able to get a title

I could be way off on some info here, but asking for my father.

He has bought numerous vehicles off copart and the latest was a truck that was absolutely wrecked and he fixed everything to get it up to par. I believe it was "inspected" after.

Michigan SOS says it will not be able to be titles because of its previous title or something along those lines? Numerous people I've talked to said that's correct and it is only as good as a parts truck now. It has 1900 miles and looks brand new.

I'll have to find the current title and see exactly what it is but does anyone have any insight or thoughts?

US Sale Best way to sell car that drives but needs engine repair

Hi all,

I have a 2017 Honda fit, 80,000 miles, it needs engine cleaning and repairs (the fuel injector problem got the best of me). I had thought trading in would be best but now I've heard private selling or online might be ideal to get the best value. The car drives but it does keep going into limp mode. Dealership quoted $3,000 in repairs.

How should I sell my car?

Edit: sorry, I live in PA!

. Hello chads! Looking to get in to a Tacoma( really something to last a lifetime) preferably a older style because I don’t want to break the bank! I have 2 options but I think I might be over paying If I go back.

Option one: 2011 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner four-door 6 foot bed TRD sport
156k miles/ dealer trade in/ they want est.$17k
Seen this one today a few issues I noticed today was the passenger door wouldn’t unlock the first time after pressing the key fob button and manual button inside the car. Fog lights would not come on once the button was pressed in a couple holes on the floorboard, obviously from wear and tear.

Option two: 2013 gray Toyota Tacoma pre-runner four-door 6 foot bed TRD sport
154,000 miles /smaller dealership/estimated price $15,750

Carfax reporter an accident in this vehicle has been in colder states like Delaware and Maryland

If I do see this vehicle, I will give you guys an update

Was recommended to try to look for a 4x4. prerunner =RWD if anyone was wondering

Meta For dealership veterans: which position would you choose if starting over?

For people who have worked multiple dealership roles, which position has the best combination of income potential, job security and work-life balance? I’m currently in sales and considering moving into F&I. Curious whether experienced people would choose F&I, desk manager, GSM, fixed ops, etc. if they were starting over.
