Rigs My solution to living in an upstairs apartment

Needed a sound deadening solution and didn’t want to spend a hundred bucks on those springs everybody has. So I designed and 3D printed some tennis ball feet.

It works incredibly well! No complaints from the downstairs neighbors and I can slide it across wood or carpet floors to put it away when I have people over. Only cost like $12 for 18 tennis balls from Walmart. Rest went to my parents dog. She appreciated it.

I uploaded to makerworld if anyone is interested. https://makerworld.com/models/3246392

Question I got a completely new G29 for 25 dollars

Post image

Long story short I traded something that was a gift for the G920** and pedals and gave 25 on their favor (full story at the end) and my question is: what is the best way to quick mount/dismount or set and remove cause I rent with my sister and my small room is the only place where I can use it and is really small, I can't fit a cockpit and also don't want to spend a lot either cause I'm moving to Mexico relatively soon, anything compact and worth it? Or I better deal with setting it on the desk? So far it feels solid, not shaky at all I just hate that the chair rolls back quite easy under hard braking

Edit is the full story: my aunt gifted me a BB gun pretty much new (they only shot 7 tanks) and I never used it cause I have nowhere to shoot it and I ended up trading it for the G920** and 25dls, the guy bought it and never used it, but for real, all the chords were oem tightened and there was not a single particle of dust on the pedals or any mark of use anywhere, he told me he bought it, then got a more demanding job with more hours, didn't have time to play no more and forgot to return it in time on Amazon

🧐 Customer Review Finally finished my full sim racing setup! 🏎️🔥

Finally, I’ve completed my full sim racing setup!
I installed a 32-inch curved Samsung Odyssey G5 and mounted it on a monitor arm that I ordered from China through Temu.
I also bought two additional supports, also from China, and attached them to the existing mounting points on the cockpit platform. This gives the monitor a little extra support and stability.
I added soft protective pads on top of the supports so the monitor rests comfortably on them without any risk of getting scratched or damaged.
Under the cockpit, I placed four small, thin square vibration-damping pads to help reduce vibrations being transferred into the floor.
So now the setup is finally complete:
🏎️** Playseat Trophy
🖥️
Samsung Odyssey G5 32” Curved
🎮 **Thrustmaster T598 wheel bundle

🔇 Vibration-damping pads under the cockpit
🎧 AUX output from the monitor routed neatly for headphones
I also managed to route the monitor’s AUX output neatly, so I can easily plug in my headphones without having cables hanging everywhere.
I’m really happy with how everything turned out!
What do you guys think? How does the setup look? 😎🏁

It's my happy corner. Semi-compact and semi-minimal considering everything I use the space for: work, DJing, music production, gaming, sim racing.

A few fun details:
- I mostly use the sim rig in VR, but the monitor can be moved to another mount in front of the rig for the non-VR sims
- The speakers are DIY open-baffle, with digital crossover and 6-channel amplification (each driver digitally tuned and amplified individually)
- The whole thing (minus the sim rig) is sit-stand
- I produce and spin Drum & Bass - if you're into that sorta thing you should check out Schematic Sound on Bassdrive!

UPS left with a neighbour 2 doors down just because she asked if it was for me and said she'd take it in. Didn't get a signature from her even though it was signature required. Sketchy especially for the price.

Honestly got a STEAL on this. Its the Simagic Alpha sport with the GT Neo wheel and P700 pedals. Can't wait to hook this up to my rig although if anyone has a 40x40 alum rig can you share pics of how to attatch the wheel base to the right? I have corner brackets and some 300mm alum pieces to use any help would be appreciated! And I have a Si Turnball rig if thay helps. The wheelbase section on my rig is 40x80

Any advice on direct drive wheels? Also looking at doing an unboxing and set up as a twitch stream tonight as a few followers/subs want to see it all

Question SIMAGIC EVO Sport vs. MOZA R9 Bundle?

Thumbnail
gallery
28 Upvotes

Hey guys. Looking for advice on these 2 options:

  1. SIMAGIC Evo Sport 9NM + GT NEO Steering Wheel + P700 Pedals

PRICE=$849 CAD/$612 USD

  1. MOZA R9 (9NM) V3 + KS Wheel + SRP2 Pedals

PRICE=$769 CAD/$555 USD

More information about myself: I have a G29. I would be using this next setup for drifting and F1 on PC. I recently thought I would get an R5, talked myself up to an R9, and now realizing a lot of Reddit seems to say SIMAGIC is better than MOZA. Curious to hear your thoughts and if you think that incremental price is worth it for SIMAGIC?

Thanks!

Question Why are sim racing pedals not staggered?

Get in any car with 3 pedals and you’ll find the gas pedal about an inch deeper in the cabin than the clutch and brake pedal that are at the same depth. But even high end pedal systems for sim rigs place all three pedals at the same depth. Why?

Edit: as many have pointed out, many pedals are adjustable and I just hadn’t seen enough setups with them staggered—sorry should have done my research. Perhaps a better question is do you stagger, and why or why not?

Discussion Torn between LMU and iRacing. Y

Hey everyone,
I’m stuck in a bit of a loop between Le Mans Ultimate and iRacing, and could really use some perspective from people running both. I’ve actually put more hours into iRacing, but I keep hopping back and forth.
Every time I try to stick with LMU, I hit the same two walls:
1. The scheduling/lack of races: The race gaps feel way too long. If you get taken out in T1, waiting nearly an hour just to get back into another official race is a total flow-killer.
2. FFB & Handling: The physics and force feedback feel a bit floaty and numb to me compared to what I'm looking for.
On the other hand, iRacing gives me the crisp FFB, physical weight, and instant back-to-back racing options I want. But the pricing model always gives me pause.
My main goal is to run the Porsche Cup. For those who actively race PCup, what is a realistic, realistic budget to get started and just have fun for a season or two? Do you usually buy the whole calendar upfront, or just grab a few popular tracks each season and skip the ones you don't care for?
Is the subscription + content cost genuinely worth swallowing for the quality of racing, or should I just hold out and hope LMU fixes its online ecosystem?
Appreciate any insights!

Rigs DIY Wooden Inverted Pedal Base

Thumbnail

Hello everyone! I've been sim racing since April, started on the Moza R3 on an Xbox. I had the pedals sitting on the carpeted floor and I drilled holes into my desk so the Moza desk clamp would fit my desk. Very rough, but functional enough to love the game.

Very quickly, I upgraded to a PC and the Moza R12 V2. But pedals sitting on the floor were still an issue.
So I bought some wood ($13), carpet ($10), glue ($9), and some hardware ($11) and whipped this together in a day!

The carpet and carpet glue aren't necessary, but I have a little daughter that is crawling around and I didn't want her to bite the wood! It does make it look a little nicer though.

I was proud so wanted to share here! I don't have the room in my little apartment to buy a rig or even a foldable rig. I sit in an upright wooden chair which is why the angle of the pedals is not more steep. This setup is literally perfect for my situation!

Question Anyone tried the Moza haptic pedal add ons?

Post image

Curious to hear opinions of those that have it/tried it.

Seems like a very affordable option.

Do you have just the brake or did you add on throttle and clutch?

How well does it add to immersion?

Do you find it helps you drive better being able to feel the feedback?

Is the throttle and clutch worth adding on?

Discussion Ten minutes of training a day keeps my spinning away!?

When learning piano, we practice specific finger patterns and techniques.
In martial arts, we practice individual punches, kicks and blocks.
In tennis, we practice serves, forehands and backhands.

Before all of that eventually becomes one smooth, complex skill.

In German, we have a nice word for this: Trockenübung.

Basically: practicing a movement separately before using it in the real situation.

Why do we do that?

Because isolating and repeating specific movements is a proven way to build motor skills before having to use them in a much more complex situation.

Take piano as an example.

If I just keep playing complete songs over and over again, I will probably improve. But if I never specifically learn how my fingers need to move for certain patterns, I will eventually hit a point where fast or difficult passages become a problem.

Even worse:

If I learn certain movements incorrectly from the beginning, I may build habits that are really difficult to get rid of later.

Or, less scientifically: Watch Jackie Chan movies or Karate Kid. 😂

They also don’t start by beating each other up for three hours and hoping that eventually turns into karate.

They practice movements. Again and again.

And at some point I started wondering:

Why should sim racing be any different?

Of course sim racing is much more than pedal movement.

Reaction time.
Attention.
Track knowledge.
Vision.
Racecraft.
Car control.
Probably another hundred things.

But a pretty important part of it is also making extremely precise inputs with the steering wheel and pedals.

How much brake pressure?
How quickly do I build it?
How smoothly do I release it?
Can I hold 10% brake?
Can I hit the same pressure five times in a row?
Can I transition from brake to throttle without upsetting the car?

If I just drive and drive, I will probably get better at those things eventually.

But maybe it takes much longer than necessary. And maybe I’m also practicing my mistakes at the same time.

So I started asking myself:

Wouldn’t it be more effective to spend 5–10 minutes every day deliberately training those basic motor skills, and THEN go racing?

Not three hours of pedal training once a week.

Just consistently. 5 minutes. 10 minutes.

And then finally do what we all actually want to do anyway:

Race. 😂

That idea is why my girlfriend and I built a free browser-based pedal trainer called SIXTYCM. (Why SIXTYCM? Because apparently the problem sits about 60 cm from the monitor. 😅🫣)

We first posted an early version here about five days ago.

Because we mainly wanted to find out whether this training approach even makes sense for other sim racers, we built the first prototype heavily with AI assistance.

The app analyzes different parts of your pedal movement, tracks progress and tries to adapt training towards the areas where you struggle most.

The response to the first post was much bigger than we expected. People actually tried the thing. 😅

They showed us hardware problems, suggested improvements and pointed out things we didn’t even realize were confusing.

Since then, we’ve already made several updates based on that feedback.

But we also don’t want to start filling r/simracing with every tiny update.

So we created r/SIXTYCM.

If you want to try this training approach with us, give feedback or just follow what happens with the project, you’re very welcome there. ❤️

And of course we’d still love more people to try the trainer and tell us where it works, where it sucks, where we’re completely wrong and which functions you miss.

But what I’m actually more interested in is the bigger question:

Do we sim racers sometimes train by simply “driving more”, when we could train individual skills much more deliberately?

Or do you think isolated pedal and steering practice has limited value because those skills only really make sense in the context of an actual car, track and corner?

And if you would isolate individual skills:

Which ones?

Cheers,
Katya & Mark

P.S.: For the “AI slop” comments: yes, I use AI to translate longer posts from German into English. Mainly so nobody gets physically ill trying to read my English. ❤️😂

Discussion Choosing between actuator/rig-based motion and seat mover

Hi all. I have been looking to pick up some motion for a while and been following that part of the market. I have an opportunity to either buy a seat mover (DX Winner 2), or someone in my local market has offered to DIY me a system using motors that move each corner of an aluminium rig for surge/heave/pitch/roll. This system would be a bit more expensive than the seat mover, but not meaningfully so.

I don't know which is better, because I am getting conflicting opinions watching the experts online. Racebeyondmatter says a seat mover has the potential to be even more immersive than a "regular" motion rig, because of the perceived movement between body and "car". See this video for example: youtube.com/watch?v=mRNYnpqrHxs&t=5 (and the AI synopsis, which is:

A seat mover setup feels more immersive when you detach the steering wheel, pedals, and monitors from the moving platform so your body shifts relative to a static cockpit, mirroring real-world G-forces. [1, 2]

Why Decoupling Works

  • Relative Motion: In a real car, your body moves around inside a stationary cabin rather than moving with the steering wheel.
  • Brain Cues: When your torso shifts relative to the wheel, your brain instantly registers acceleration, braking, and cornering forces.
  • Proprioceptive Feedback: Isolating the motion to just the seat and pedals delivers sharp torso and hip feedback that heavy full-rig systems dilute. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Key Tuning Tips for Realism

  • Disable Sustained Tilt: Turn off continuous incline/decline tilting to stop your body from floating awkwardly forward or backward on hills. [1, 2]
  • Limit Body Pitch/Roll: Restrict the motion strictly to sharp transient events like initial braking bites, gear shifts, and curb hits. [1, 2]
  • Combine with a Belt Tensioner: Use active harness tension to sustain the pressure on your chest after the initial motion cue hits, tricking your senses into feeling continuous G-forces.)

So, I honestly do not know what system to go with. I will (in time) hopefully add a belt tensioner, and use more VR. I welcome any suggestions or discussion on this to please help me make a good decision for what is a quite expensive purchase that I would like to maximize. Thanks in advance.

Question How far out do exhibitors get announced for a convention? (Sim Global Expo Birmingham)

I'm heading to Sim Global Expo in Birmingham (https://www.simglobalexpo.com/pages/exhibitors) but the exhibitors list is pretty short. I'm excited because as far as I know there's not been an Expo in the UK but I'm a bit worried it will be pretty underwhelming. Anyone who has been to other expos, is it normal to not see any big hitters at this point? I feel like headline exhibitors should have already been announced

Question Considering swapping triple monitors for odyssey g9

Got an unusual dilemma. My current setup has basically perfect tech specs (triple 240hz 4k OLED PG32UCDM monitors) but I’m considering swapping that for a dedicated monitor for sim racing only - the 240hz Odyssey G9 49”.

My current PC setup does everything for me: music production, work and gaming. I have my sim rig on wheels so I can move it on front of my desk. The problem is that I need to pull my monitor arms all the way forward each time I want to race, realigning them is a hassle, and even then it’s not perfect - it’s out of alignment with my eye level and they simply can’t move into a perfect position.

So I’m considering getting a dedicated monitor for racing, the 240hz g9 seems like the best for my needs. I’m just wondering, will the downgrade be that noticeable?

I’ll lose vertical space and won’t have 4k.

So I want to ask: if you had a compromised setup with ideal specs, would you take the downgrade on specs for the ideal physical setup? Those of you who own the g9, how is it?

I recently got to try out a similar setup in the paddock club at an F1 race and was so surprised at just how much I preferred it despite the loss in clarity, everything about the setup they used there was worse than mine on paper but the experience felt so much more complete.

It’s the ultimate first world problem, but I can’t make my mind up on my own. Thanks! 🙏

Rigs My MOZA R5 setup got a little out of hand.

Post image
Upvotes

It started with an R5 and a wooden steering wheel because I wanted a quick-release setup. Then I wanted more immersion, so I kept adding things:

• head tracking for a “half-VR” experience

• bass shakers

• dual-channel wind simulation

• handbrake

• H-pattern and sequential shifting

• multiple steering wheels for different types of cars

I spent most of my time tuning the bass shakers. I used 0–2000 Hz frequency sweeps as a reference and eventually limited the tactile system to roughly below 100 Hz. Above that, I let the speakers and the room provide the acoustic punch, while the shakers provide the physical impact and the R5 provides the steering feedback.

For sim racing, I actually keep the tactile effects pretty simple: idle, RPM, gear shifts, road impacts and one additional effect depending on the game.

The fun part is that the bass shakers aren’t dedicated to racing — I also use them for music and movies.

It took a lot more time to tune than to buy. Now I just sit down and drive. 😂
