tbh from a human pov it's kinda true. Dolphins do fucked up stuff but are generally friendly towards humans. While sharks can easily mistake swimming people to seals and attack them.
Also it depends on the species but some sharks are definitely not "imma do a swim" but "fuck up everything in a 2 mile radius around me"
Great Whites, despite being the poster children of the shark family, are generally fairly chill as long as you don't look like a seal. Some species like nurse sharks are outright harmless and very cute.
Bull and tiger sharks are massive assholes whose sole purpose in life is to make everyone in their general vicinity as miserable as possible for no clear benefit.
In defense of the bullsharks we are literally building on top of their breeding ground. Of course the hormonal sharks that can't get their freak on are gonna be testy.
There's a place (I think in South America) where Bottlenose herd fish towards a small bay, where fishermen are waiting with nets to catch them. The fishermen then give whatever they don't use to the Bottlenoses. In an act of cooperation. I'll have to find my source on that though.

I would say the whole "mistake them for food" is overestimate
The average on lethal shark attacks per years is less than 5 people and all of them are from tourists who have 0 ideia how to behave around open wildlife locations
I agree it doesn't happen often but it still happens, also shark attacks are more common than that it's 5 per year that is lethal. There are about 60-70 resulting in injury and thousands ending with no injuries.
On the other hand dolphins attack people so rarely that there is no official statistics about it at all.
I think thats because there is only one confirmed human fatality caused by a dolphin in the same way there is one confirmed human fatality caused by a leopard seal yet both are treated as much more dangerous than sharks, three species of which have confirmed human fatalities in the double digits.
Amongst other things, Dolphins are also capable of bullying each other, they harm other animals for "fun" and they have been observed to rape other species.
That one wasn’t real. The documentary crew observed a group of young dolphin playing with a puffer fish without actually knowing it was dangerous and the later footage of them just floating was them in shock and not high like they claimed
Elephants have been noted to rape rhinos as stress release. Every animal (including humans) can do bad shit, theres no point in demonizing particular species.
I also think that the more intelligent an animal is the the more variation in behaviour is among individuals of that species. Behaviour and traditions between pods vary drastically. Because they're a different species to us, it's pretty easy for us to look at fucked up things a group of dolphins do and assume it's something that is an innate behavior as a species instead of something that specific pod does as a "tradition."

If I remember correctly, that's incorrect. It's anthropomorphism on our part. What's actually happening is a rapid alteration between two competing instincts, predatory and phobic. I mean, since dolphins are highly intelligent (for a big fish) they gotta distract themselves and when you're in the middle of the ocean you don't have much to do so druging yourself in pufferfish and using othee fishes to play before killing them it's not as absurd
also dolphins don't share our moral compass and a lot of what you said are behaviors you see in all kinds of animals

Can you stop with the anti dolphin propaganda, they're not human. Morality is one of the biggest dividers between humans and the rest of life, to pretend dolphins are offending some greater concept or right or wrong, when all their doing is living their best life is fucking stupid.
It’s so exhausting to see like they’re literally animals and most likely do not know good and bad like we do and the weird shift to demonise dolphins to compensate for sharks being demonised is so odd.

For context dolphins are known interspecies rapists, racists to other dolphins with different spots, drug junkies and have even been reported as ganging up on female dolphins to have sex and drowning them in the process.
Its that time of the day again where we compensate for anthromorphizing and projecting human morality on sharks, by doing the exact same thing but to dolphins this time
