COD does this all the time. How the fuck do kevlar body plates stop a round from a .50 caliber anti tank sniper rifle?

760

u/lutavian 7d ago

Because it’s anti-tank not anti-Kevlar?

/s

60

u/wackadoodle4201 7d ago

Thats frustratingly consistent

41

u/ApparentlyRythium 7d ago

My favourite thing to do in games is go around with whatever they deem an AMR and use that to dictate what is a material

13

u/Dic3Goblin 7d ago

Now this, this is like.

You say /s, but if it were a game with vehicles like Battlefield I can genuinely see this being the reason. Battlefield regularly makes their rocket launchers do less damage to humans than vehicles and structures to encourage engineers to stick to their actual role of vehicle crew/anti vehicle

11

u/ADGx27 7d ago

Meanwhile in Hell Let Loose: “lol pussy you won’t vaporize that guy with a PTRS-41 round to the chest, anything is anti-personnel if your mama didn’t raise a bitch”

Stack kevlar onto the outside of a tank

Your move Saddam Hussein

I don't think he's moving very much these days..

Destroy the Kevlar with an AR. Then pop the tank with anti tank

This comment reminds me of my friend Mike who will yell on COD. Its mostly something like "How does 3 rounds of 7.62 to the face not kill him?!" And we have to remind him its just a game.

31

u/CarterBruud 7d ago

That was me when I tried Warzone when it first came out. Shot a guy in the head with a .50 cal but he had armor and didn't die. I know COD isn't a milsim game, but make it make sense more than not at all.

11

u/WaxiestBobcat 7d ago

I agree. I wish WZ had a mode where the armor only protected your body and maybe your head like in real life. That would've made way more sense.

It's a military flavored arcade shooter, just because it looks like what guys with a Playstation thinks the army is like, it does not have to be realistic. People keep bringing up COD and realism when it is a megacorp product crafted to be the most appealing it can be to the average Andy. COD does not take risks for a creative vision, it is meant to serve the masses and pad the investors pockets. It is very obviously balanced around a casual experience, if you are looking for something that makes sense, you'll have to dig deeper than the most popular shooter on the market.

Full magazine to the chest doesn't kill your enemies. A knife to the toe instantly kills you.

6

u/Special-Elephant-257 7d ago

That dude would be happy in Hell Let Loose if he's after more realistic bullet damage

6

u/LocalOrganHarvester 7d ago

That's why I love Arma. If you shoot 12.7 at fucker's face, you can be sure that his entire bloodline is getting erased from reality

In BL2 I basically never use Bandit weapons because 90% of them tend to be trash in comparison to hyperion and dahl

10

u/Mysterious_Piglet_13 7d ago

Jacobs weapons are better

8

u/Futur3_ah4ad 7d ago

Depends on what you need. If you need raw non-elemental damage then Jakobs is indeed superior.

But if you need fire rate you're better off with Dahl or Vladof. For Elemental you grab Maliwan, Hyperion or Dahl, for Explosive you grab Torgue or, if things are dire, Tediore.

Bandit only has mag capacity going for it, though their fully automatics can have good fire rate with the right combination of parts.

Or a weapon level system.

Lvl 2 Holy Godslayer's Exoblade of Destined Destruction: 7 dmg

Lvl 3 Peasant's Rusty Shortsword: 8 dmg

11

u/ErikTheRed99 7d ago

Lvl1 M82 .50 cal = 43 damage Lvl 50 Ruger 10/22 .22 lr = 48 damage

Fucking how!?

9

u/Gideon_Lovet 7d ago

That's why I like STALKER Gamma's weapon system. The barrel condition affects damage, but at 100%, a 9mm from a pistol does the same damage as a 9mm fired from a submachine gun. What changes are things like rate of fire, accuracy, mag size, etc, but the damage is consistent across calibers. Doesn't matter much what gun fired the bullet, if the bullet and cartridge size is the same.

Honestly, Dead Space kinda felt like this to me. I just couldn’t find a reason to replace the laser cutter. It’s awesome

https://giphy.com/gifs/tsBu4h4VjHSeci6w0l

153

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE 7d ago

Dead space has other guns? I beat it three times.

34

u/DarthUrbosa 7d ago

Bruh the contact beam is just a better plasma cutter (in the remake. Original it's a pocket nuke). Force gun is the best gun in the series and the ripper is just fun as hell.

13

u/Organic_Morning521 7d ago

The Skin Stripper™

68

u/Few_Difference4274 7d ago

The new dead space they all serve a purpose, especially with the flesh system (I think it’s called). Some are used to peel away tissue making the plasma cutter cop them in one shot rather than 4-5

54

u/charathedemoncat 7d ago

I mean, thats cool but due to the game only giving you ammo for guns that are currently in your inventory, you can just stuff any gun you get in storage and obliterate everything with 20 stacks of plasma cutter ammo

9

u/AlertWar2945-2 7d ago

Pretty sure thats what I did for Dead Space 2 for Hardcore mode. I also kept a Plasma Rifle just for its grenade launcher secondary fire as a last resort

Peeling system

7

u/kristamine14 7d ago

The force gun went from "tried it once and thrown directly in the bin" in the OG DS, to "Fuck yes time to blow the skin off a necromorph again" with the Flesh system in the remake haha

13

u/Responsible_Mail_113 7d ago

At least it makes earning the One Gun achievement a fun challenge. And it isn't perfect against everything, it struggles against enemies that attack in large groups like the Swarmers or Divider and the wall-mounted Guardians.

7

u/grandfleetmember56 7d ago

Man that makes me think of Resistance: Fall of Man.

You got a few military guns, plus alien weaponry. They all did different things, and would highlight that when you first get the new weapon. But after, you just have to figure it out/play your way.

6

u/BludStanes 7d ago

That is definitely one of my favorite guns ever since the OG days. Powerful as hell and really fun and visually appealing

3

u/CUEUECOMBER 7d ago

i played through the remake, and i agree. the only two guns i used throughout my whole playthrough were the cutter and i used the flamethrower for some enemy type that would get stunlocked by the flame wall shot

cutter is GOATED

same for me, except I also carried the ripper, found it extremely useful in tight areas and against the hunter.

Cyberpunk. A good silenced pistol with headshot mods and a sight will beat almost any rifle

108

u/Rhorge 7d ago

Gunsensical mod is essential for me, it’s just too dumb for pistols to outperform full size rifles in everything

23

u/solidgears 7d ago

It all depends on how you spec your character

16

u/Available_Hat_9833 7d ago edited 7d ago

Still, ttk with a pistol headshot build is gonna be lower than anything you can do with rifles, they only really have advantage in how much ammo you have but with 3(4) weapon slots that barely matters.

Pistols are also the only guns that get consistent one-shots due to all the multipliers, making all other weapons in that playstyles redundant. Even Panam’s sniper deals less damage than pistols, making it incredibly situational outside the lowest difficulties.

Edited the stealth portion for clarity.

2

u/Micro-Skies 6d ago

Id say that non-iconic shotguns are the other one shot machines. "Kneel!" Is kinda busted

38

u/Durandal07 7d ago

Yeah, Cyberpunk’s weapon balancing is really wonky. The most egregious examples are precision rifles, sniper rifles and LMG’s.

Pistols can easily one-shot unaware targets due to the stealth damage multiplier from the silencer. At the same time, they still deal plenty of damage in combat.

Meanwhile precision and snipers get no damage boosts from stealth (meaning you aren’t one-shotting targets and immediately starting combat from the extra noise), don’t deal much more damage than a pistol, often with much lower fire rates. Meanwhile LMG’s manage to be so much worse than SMG’s and Assault rifles (and there are only two of them).

The other weapons have use cases and builds they synergize with, but those three weapon types just don’t perform well in their roles.

8

u/Longjumping_Cycle757 7d ago

I sometimes wish cyberpunk had a no rpg levelling mode where all weapons ect have their own uses instead of this lvl/skill based weapon system where a big ass sniper gets shat on by a tiny pistol just cause you put a silencer on it 😭

7

u/fooooolish_samurai 7d ago

I find it incredibly immersion breaking that some random goon might tank several bursts in the face just because he is in a higher level area

5

u/therealhairykrishna 6d ago

It's daft because one of the things I like most about the Cyberpunk 2020 pen and paper RPG is it's damage system. It doesn't have hit points that scale with level/experience. So some mook with a cheap gun can absolutely kill the heroes if they get unlucky.

4

u/Pathogen188 5d ago

Tbf 2077 is a power fantasy game where V gets to break all sorts of lore for the sake of rule of cool. I’d prefer 2020’s system as well but that’s just not the game they were trying to make

3

u/Durandal07 6d ago

Well, that at least was somewhat solved by the universal level scaling across all of NC in the update that came with Phantom Liberty. Basically, enemies and drops always normalize to your current level. So NC no longer has high and low level areas (like it did at release). Instead, enemies have "tiers" (the number of health bars) denoting whether they're elites or not. Some more dangerous areas (not whole regions) may have a higher preponderance of high-tier enemies (and things like kill squads from botched stealth tend to be full of higher tier enemies as well), but you won't have situations where the Valentinos are Level 20+ and in turf wars with gangs ten levels below them.

So this means your weapons can still fall behind (as only the drops scale to your level; though iconics can at least still be upgraded), but you can go anywhere in the city and the enemies won't get comparatively more or less difficult.

Hopefully the next game uses less vertical progression (numbers go up) and instead gives almost purely horizontal progression (perks and implants that expand your capabilities rather than just giving raw boosts to stats). Not familiar with newer editions of the TTG, but Cyberpunk 2020 had pretty flat progression over time. You had a bit of vertical leeway in your skills and stats, but most progression came in the form of gear and augmentation. To do more damage, you bought a bigger gun, you didn't find a shinier version of your current gun that magically does more damage for some reason.

Fallout 4 is the big one tbh

Helldivers is also pretty awful at this

237

u/Accomplished_Emu_658 7d ago

Fall out 4 and 76 notorious for this. In 76 around 30-40 level enemies become complete bullet sponges. No way should an enemy need to take 40 shotgun blasts or large caliber rifles hits at close range.

94

u/yourmom1034 7d ago

Yeah I pretty much have to mod any shooter or slasher rpg game I download nowadays to get realistic damage values in there, bullet sponges especially in practically unarmored human sized enemies are some of my least favorite “balancing” attempts in those games

11

u/Low-Refrigerator-663 7d ago

Yeah...a lot of games are guilty of that issue. And the problem is usually easy to solve, if you actually include the tools needed to solve the problem.

Like, instead of just making hp numbers on enemies higher, make the faster. Or more numerous. Or do more damage.

Not, pull a bethesda and quadruple the damage and go "SEE? The game is harder, you die faster and it takes longer to kill things, that's what difficulty means!".

Like, yes, that is more difficult, but not difficult AND fun. Just difficult AND tedious.

Something that bothers me is games like R6S, Battlefield, Cod. Also make the INFURIATING design decision to make a "Heavily Armored" character just have more health, but still die to one shot and shot and SLOWER.

Like, if you balance an entire game around reflexes, reaction time, against things like covering distance and mobility.

Speed becomes the #1 stat every time, the faster you are the more successful you become, ESPECIALLY in an objective game.

So when a game decides to make a heavy character run slower, rather than less stamina or longer recovery time. It means a heavy character takes more damage than whatever health increase they had can offset, especially if we include SLOWER = EASIER TO HEADSHOT.

Sorry, every time I think of this it pisses me off and I fall into a rant.

x

Like why can't anyone just use the Helldiver equation?

Every weapon has 0-10 penetration, all characters have 0-10 armor. Every point that pen is lower than armor, is a 10% decrease in damage with a minimum of 40% damage.

And then make Health and Armor dependent on each other. Want a lot of health? Little armor. A lot of Armor? Little health. Want the most effective hp? Some of both.

And it creates a natural inclination for which weapons work with different targets. If you have a lot of health, but no armor, you cannot be oneshot by sniper rifles. But if you have a lot of armor, and no health, the sniper bypasses it.

The opposite becomes true with Shotguns and pistols. Both excel at fighting unarmored targets, but suck at fighting armored targets.

Having 50/50 armor and health means you are not vulnerable to heavy or light pen, but are vulnerable to something that does both, like an explosive.

Anything better than slapping on a 50 hp buff and making them like 33% slower.

Or whatever the hell is driving bethesda to continue to just "MAKE THE NUMBERS BIGGERER".

4

u/Rockhead_Dynamics 7d ago

Yeah, if you want your guns to be evenly balanced, don't make one of them the M2 Browning.

5

u/Disastrous_Cat3912 7d ago

The key to 76, I have found, is to pretend you are playing Skyrim and go full stealth archer. So easy to cheese the enemies with that build.

3

u/Due_Glass4176 7d ago

Yeah it feels like the balanced later scaling around using broken legendary effects with all the drugs and perks you could fit instead of something more, middle of the road.

3

u/PurgeTrooper66 7d ago

I especially feel that in 76. Guns like the portable 50 cal machine gun are often outclassed by other heavy weapons despite having the biggest caliber.

→ More replies (7)

86

u/Minotaar 7d ago

Is helldivers though? The machine gun and heavy machine gun absolutely rip, and you can adjust fire rates and take perks that make it a far better gun than the standard issue ones

49

u/yourmom1034 7d ago

Yeah the bigger guns do bigger damage, it’s more on the hilarious disparities on different bullet calibers. Watch the itsyabrandyboy video on helldivers guns if you’re more interested. Devs that preach realism with guns do not know enough about guns to be saying that.

24

u/Minotaar 7d ago

Do the helldivers devs preach realism with guns?

25

u/yourmom1034 7d ago

Yeah? It’s been one of their major points on their balancing talks and especially in regards to “fun” weapons like the one true flag. They’ve really only recently started walking back the realistic milsim approach at least in their public communications

13

u/Minotaar 7d ago

OK! Never understand why I get downvotes for asking a question but here we are lol

21

u/_Bill_Huggins_ 7d ago

It was a sore point with the community because they kept nerfing good guns with the excuse of realism in a game that is completely unrealistic in pretty much every aspect.

They didn't use realism as an excuse all the time, just when convenient. So it made it even more annoying because there was no consistency

11

u/hanks_panky_emporium 7d ago

I think you can still look at old Steam Graph charts showing player counts cratering as they nerfed every single weapon into the dirt. To make it more fair for the fucking bugs and robots. Was so dumb.

Fallout. The mini gun shouldnt be less effective than sneezing on them!

14

u/Banned-User-56 7d ago

In the fight where they basically give you a minigun near the start of the game, all the enemies actually have about half the health they'd normally have, including the deathclaw, just to make the minigun actually feel good.

6

u/Gebghis 7d ago

This depends on the fallout though.

In 1 and 2 only like 3 weapons are even useful by endgame anyways.

In 3 the minigun shreds most enemies if you're investing in heavy guns as high dps weapons are king in 3. But honestly every gun that isn't the Chinese pistol is good enough in 3 as you level up.

New Vegas it's also similarly strong except for the fact that you can almost never find them nor an appropriate amount of ammo for them.

4 the minigun is honestly only as good as the legendary effects you have on it, but that applies to any automatic weapon unfortunately. That's not even an issue with the weapon though, it's a problem of the perk system. When the only damage upgrades are percentages, high damage low fire rate is going to always outperform.

76 heavy weapons are actually quite strong now since you are more likely to get ammo related to the weapon you are actively using so you can actually fuel them. But again you really on good legendary effects for all weapons in it.

All in all, fallout actually tends to keep the weapons reasonably scaled to eachother, the imbalances come from leveling and perks and legendary effects.

I hate how many of their guns are single shot, low capacity magazine, low damage weapons. Like this is a hoard game and we get a primary weapon that kills a basic unit in 2-3 hits and has a 12 shot magazine (like the new 40k las gun).

19

u/GayestNerfKid 7d ago

22

u/Horens_R 7d ago

21

u/Appropriate-Crab-514 7d ago

The ODST shotgun got taken out back by the SuperStore Bayonet Trench gun and Old Yeller'd into uselessness

5

u/Horens_R 7d ago

😂it was always pretty useless tbf, their choice for armour pen makes no sense for a lot of things

5

u/Baldrickk 7d ago

It makes a bit more sense of you think about the different armour values as:

  • 0 unprotected
  • 1 light body armour. (Light 1)
  • 2 heavy body armour . (Light2)
  • 3 armoured car. (Medium 1)
  • 4 armoured truck. (Medium 2)
  • 5 light tank. (Heavy 1)

The way HDII categorises it into light, medium, heavy makes sense for looking at the whole scale, but severely de-emphasizes how strong the armour is on the human scale.

Put a person in armour next to say... Battleship Iowa. In that comparison, you're always going to say that the body armour is weak, no matter how much they are wearing.

Battlefield 4 and it's stupid mounted 50 cal guns. They do less damage than some pistols! Fire very slow. And you can't move or see very well if they have shields on them.

8

u/Few_Difference4274 7d ago

I hate this in almost all games with 50 cals. The thing should dominate. I fired that in real life and you feel like god behind it. In games it is about useless.

4

u/Longjumping_Bet_4825 7d ago

FR! it's like this is a 50 caliber sniper rifle! 1 shot kill to the head at any distance! And this is a belt fed 50 cal MG. It's like a slower Lmg that does about the same amount of damage per shot and it's not gonna be very accurate even though it is mounted to the ground. Good luck.

The Browning M2 is a joke in basically every video game, except milsim games like Arma and Squad, and for some reason, GTA 5.

Any noob shooter really. BF, COD, CS. If its not something like Arma or Squad the size of the round doesnt matter. How tacticool it looks determines its efficiency.

Most battlefields and CoDs to my knowledge. Also the suppression system is non-existent/little point to make use of the gun.

24

u/TheOriginalRalph 7d ago

Yeah, CoD has a history of being bad about this for sure. I would think ideally LMGs should have about the same damage/TTK as assault rifles, and superior damage/TTK to SMGs, but also slower handling speeds than both. That way, in a run-and-gun scenario, the AR or SMG will beat the LMG because they can react and be ready to shoot faster, nullifying the LMG's advantage in damage. But if the LMG is already ready to shoot when the AR/SMG turns the corner, the LMG wins. Make LMGs really strong when posted up in a good spot and really good at locking down choke points, but have a clear disadvantage when relocating or getting flanked. And of course the vulnerability of long reloads to make up for huge magazines.

8

u/FightTheChildren 7d ago

That makes me think… has there EVER been an OP LMG in a COD or battlefield game? Best I can think of is something like the M1917 in battlefield 1. Even then it’s more so because having a full auto mid range gun is a big deal in a ww1 game

13

u/EM12 7d ago

BO2 LSAT with target finder.

6

u/bubblesdafirst 7d ago

I mean every cod ever in zombies the best guns are the lmgs not including wonder weapons or rare exceptions like the dsr

5

u/happyjacksonn 7d ago

Rpd in mw2 was bad ass.

3

u/wylii 7d ago

Stoner in original black ops could run some lobbies if you were good. The ADS was on par with some of the slower ARs and was the fastest LMG. It had a 3 round kill in normal and single shot kill from any range in HC.

I mostly used the famas and the galil though.

I think the most op lmg I ever used was in the original call of duty for PC. The FG42 would spawn on maps and could be temporarily used but you could not spawn with it and it was neigh impossible to find ammo for it.

Both those games making LMGs on average have similar, if not lower, single bullet damage than ARs always annoyed me. And if one does hit harder, gotta make it as unwieldy as possible or fire faster in semi-auto than in full-auto to compensate.

Tbh, kinda why I liked MMGs most in BF5. At least then it was super obvious you should be playing defensive at all times... I miss my mg 42.

Cod infinite warfare

10

Wdym 😂 IW is the opposite, they give you these big ass machine that are like this that have the mobility of a smg. There’s a reason why the game is in the state of hard meta with the titan

3

u/0DayMaker 7d ago

Last time I played it was a long time ago, but I had like a legendary I want to say it was a titan and it hit like a watergun. Maybe it got changed?

I haven't played in many years

Monster Hunter. All of them. LBG vs HBG is literally this meme.

7

u/tannegimaru 7d ago

Wdym, HBG always out damage LBG in every game. At least up until Gen 5, I haven't played Wilds yet.

7

u/Girafarig99 7d ago

From what I've seen LBG is the main speed running weapons in Wilds at least. HBG is 2nd though lol. They are both usually the speedrunning weapons for MH in general tbh

3

u/O3Sentoris 7d ago

i hate the bowguns in Wilds after maining them in world. they feel so weird.

4

u/ScarletteVera 7d ago

You come into my house, disrespect my portable autocannon?

4

u/Butterfly_Barista 7d ago

I still like HBG more. There's something super satisfying about standing your ground blocking attacks and shotgunning the monster in the face.

3

u/Bright_bound 7d ago

heavy bowgun is the most consistently broken weapon across all of the games light is just easier to use and even then that varies from person to person

In stalker 2 the 5.56 AR RIFLES do less damage per bullet than the 9x18 pistols, which also do more damage per round for some reason than the 9x19 and .45 acp pistols even though 9x18 is the smallest, weakest round. That game's AR only does a little over half the damage of the pm makarov per shot by the way, thats how drastic and insane it is.

4

u/Musashi1596 7d ago

I haven’t tried Stalker 2 yet (though I look forward to it) so this is insane for me to read when you consider the lethality of the Makarov in Shadow of Chernobyl

4

u/IcyWatersPupper 7d ago

Stalker 2 just got it's 2.0 update making it more true to what they wanted to originally release.

If there was a good time to pick it up I would say do it now or next time it's on sale.

IMO pistols are overpowered in most games. They should be a backup weapon when your main gun is out of bullets, not your first choice.

11

u/SevroAuShitTalker 7d ago

What? I cant think of many multi-player shooters where pistols are worth using. Usually they are significantly less powerful than they would be in real life

10

u/That_on1_guy 7d ago

I mean halo ce was notorious for its over powered pistol

8

u/czartrak 7d ago

It's "pistol" which is actually a hand cannon

BF6 kinda got that right

handguns are reallly rough save the revolvers, but they have a slow fire rate and poorer handling.

6

u/Unit_2097 7d ago

The WW1 series (Verdun, Tannenberg, Isonzo and as of two days ago, Gallipoli) are pretty accurate for weapon effects. A single heavy machine gun is perfectly capable of killing huge amounts of infantry if it's in a good spot, and is only limited by ammunition. Revolvers also pack a punch, but genuinely take 15+ seconds to reload.

In fact, all the weapons in that series are pretty spot on, and almost all of them will kill in one hit.

Helldivers 2 single-handedly has the worst balancing in any game ever. I will die on that hill.

55

Why die on that hill when you could call in a sentry?

31

u/ItsStryker 7d ago

But then big gun has ultra complicated stats that you have to stack a certain way/time to do good damage

8

u/TheOriginalRalph 7d ago

and then there's usually a smaller gun that you can use the exact same build/setup with and get more damage for some reason XD all the perks in Cyberpunk 2077 that benefit LMGs also benefit shotguns and are way better with shotguns

HD2 balance team in a nutshell.

7

u/TheOriginalRalph 7d ago

The number of comments I'm seeing citing the terrible weapon balancing in Helldivers 2 has been hilarious. There's over 250 comments on this post now and probably a hundred of them have mentioned Helldivers in some capacity. XD The weapon balance in that game is embarrassingly bad for devs who pride themselves on immersion and realism.

10

u/Lauralis 7d ago

realism to help the enemies and hurt the players only.

All modern arcade shooters

12g shotgun: does lots of damage up close

Auto 12g shotgun: deals less damage then the semi auto one, despite literally having the same ammunition

6

u/Hot_Dog2376 7d ago

Just about all of them. And if one of the stats is actually good, the rest are even worse. Accuracy? try a 60 degree angle of spray and 3 shots points you directly upward.

8

u/nicholasktu 7d ago

Games like fallout where a revolver deals more damage than a bolt action hi-powered rifle. Sure 44 is powerful but not compared to 30-06.

6

u/NotAnotherSkeleton 7d ago

Fallout and Borderlands

6

u/The_Witch_Queen 7d ago

What really kills me are how many games pistols do more damage than a battle rifle

6

u/Erwin_Pommel 7d ago

EDF, actually. Fencer weapons have lower stats in general compared to Ranger weapons despite the former being a powered-exoskeleton whereas the latter is an infantry man. But they're scaled with dual-wielding in mind and high-mobility.

5

u/Hetros_Jistin 7d ago

helldivers 2 a little bit XD

Far Cry

3

u/Gmony5100 6d ago

Just finished far cry 4 and I had no reason to ever use anything other than a marksman rifle for easy headshots and the bow for explosive/fire arrows.

I’m certain you could 100% that game with just the bow and it wouldn’t even be much of a challenge run.

That being said I absolutely love the game for everything else

Any game with a weapon rarity system honestly.

Bethesda does this with Fallout 4 and Starfield ALOT. I mean, it's weird how bad the damage works in both those games. It's gotta be one of the worst versions of this tbh.

The Division does it too but weirder because it's not that certain guns are weaker but they all have certain "designs" and do damage differently. Problem is that rate of fire isn't balanced out damage wise so especially in Div 2 MMR high damage is severly lacking compared to sustained fire. But you build around that with broken effects to get around it (like the now nerfed chainkiller/determined).

Battlefield 6 literally got an update last week, that is this. New sniper, super slow in every single category but 150 damage. Except that 150 damage is only when the target is between 120-150 meters. Otherwise it deals between 30-50 damage.

Helldivers, easily

3

u/Admirable-Ant-7632 7d ago

My head straight away went to Arc Raiders.

A common Stitcher with a few mods would smoke someone carrying an Epic gun

3

u/MajorInWumbology1234 7d ago

Unbelievably apt example based on the looks of both guns: CoD: World at War.

The MP40 had some erroneous code that allowed it to 2-shot kill from any distance with the right shot placement, whereas the PTRS-41, which shoots an even bigger bullet than a .50 cal (.50 is 12.7mm, PTRS shoots a 14.5mm), can be a 2-shot kill to the stomach.

3

u/blizzard36 7d ago

I don't know about heavy MGs, because I don't usually use them. But a LOT of games actually make Sniper Rifles less accurate than normal rifles.

3

u/Dani1o 7d ago

M249 from Counter-Strike, holy fuck. And most other shooters, I guess. How can a heavy gun with a long barrel, designed for decently accurate long range sprays, have so much worse accuracy and stability than a rifle for the same caliber? Absolutely hate that.

Dark Souls, 1 at least:

Yeah, go for this legendary weapon that has fool abilities (it has split damage meaning its less effective for having to go through 2 defense stats, and the cool attack takes too much time and stamina for barely any damage, but it looks really sick at least right?)

Just upgrade a basic longsword, claymore, or the zweihander depending on how much sword you want - it really doesnt get better than that.

3

u/ElliEFKa 7d ago

I'd like to bring up the destiny handcannon. The gun that dominates pvp by shooting faster than most other 'semi auto' guns but by being a semi auto gun it deals more damage per bullet than an assault rifle, with enoigh range to match most assault rifles.
