Hello!

Looking for input on a shotgun to use for home defense or sport. I already have a pistols and plan to get a rifle later, but I want a shotgun in general. Really enjoyed shooting a friends Mossberg years ago but can’t remember the model. Maverick 88 seems to be seen as best bang for your buck, and I don’t need anything fancy. Which of these models would any of yall recommend and why? Also considering the Mossberg 590 Shockwave.

Thank you for any input!

Question First Home Defense Pistol

My daughters mother and I are split. Her mother is not into firearms like I am, she’s not opposed to them but she’s indifferent to them. It’s just them in their condo.

My worst fear as a dad is something popping off and not being able to be there to protect them, especially my daughter. Im looking for recommendations with a pistol that has a safety on it so incase the worst happens her mom just has to flip the safety off and she can defend the house.

Her mother is a novice when it comes to guns. She knows the basics but nothing else. I’m thinking a full size to mediate recoil even more.

What do you guys recommend? Preferably something on the budget side because I’m purchasing it and I doubt it’ll ever get used, it’s just going to sit in a safe. Thanks in advance!

General Discussion Is the 8.6 Blk a good choice for surviving Isla Nublar? [MINOR SPOILER WARNING] Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery

On my youtube feed earlier today I saw this post (Image 1) from @Cowball44. As shown in the screenshot I selected the 8.6 blk bolt action. Image 2 is a map of Isla Nublar with the gray representing man-made structures or snowy peaks, dark green being forested areas, lighter green/yellow being open fields, and tan being beaches. I won’t cover the crossbow all too much in my analysis because I don’t really know all that much about them (they could be the best option IDK). My reasoning for my choice is in the text below. (TLDR IN BOLD)

Lets make some assumptions based on the post: First, the location is Isla Nublar (duh), but that doesn’t narrow down when, so for arguments sake will say it takes place after the events of the 2015 film, but before the events of 2018 film in which the volcano located on the island erupts. Second, based on the statement that says you have to use your weapon of choice to hunt for food which must mean you are not issued/given any sort of fresh water so you will have to find your own source. Finally, it says you can bring as much ammo as you want which could imply that you can bring any other essentials such as bags, pouches, binoculars, etc… as long as it is not a food or [drinkable] liquid products.

Now that we got that out of the way let’s start with ammunition: While all of these choices a great for specific niches I think 8.6mm Blackout is best when it comes to three factors:
Storage— while you can’t carry as much as .223/5.56, but you can carry more than both 12ga shotshell and long crossbow bolts
Versatility— 8.6 blk is surprisingly diverse cartridge with a quite wide selection of both sub and supersonic offers
Power— 8.6 blk because of its heavier projectiles it has a lot more power (especially supersonic loads) at its disposal than a the lighter .223/5.56

The maneuverability of the Q Fix (depicted in image 1) is much better than carrying a M249 SAW that can weigh upwards of 16lb (7-1/4 kg) unloaded versus the Fix’s being less than half that (so is the 940 pro and presumably the crossbow). It is also a shorter package (if we are assuming it is the 12” model) than both the SAW and 940 pro (depicted in image 1).

Bolt action rifles in general are known for being extremely reliable and aren’t typically picky about the ammunition you feed it. Compared to semi-automatic shotguns and most machine guns which may need specific cartridges to allow them to function without reliability issues. Bolt actions are also a lot friendlier to inexperienced shooters. This does come at the cost of speed when it comes to follow up shots if required.

When it comes to accuracy most modern manual action firearms provide better overall accuracy than self-loading*. Shotguns typically aren’t your first choice when it comes to accuracy and machine guns are volume by accuracy which can drain your supply of munition quickly.

IN CONCLUSION: The 8.6 blackout bolt action rifle, you can carry more ammunition than shot-shells and crossbow bolts, more maneuverable, better reliability, and better overall accuracy. (In comparison to the semi-auto shotgun and M249)

If yall have any other arguments for or against my opinion feel free to chat about. I’m also curious if anyone can give the crossbow a fair shot given the fact that I couldn’t.

AND CITY SUPPLY IS A SCAM

I purchased an Eotech xps2 NOT ammo. It was listed as in stock ready to ship

Reported to FTC!

Buyer beware !!

Here is a copy of my formal complaint:
I am filing this complaint regarding Ammo City Supply, located at 7860 W Commercial Blvd, Suite 200 #698, Lauderhill, FL 33351. The company’s contact email is [info@ammocitysupplyhelp.com](mailto:info@ammocitysupplyhelp.com).

I placed an order with Ammo City Supply on August 22, 2026. At the time of purchase, the item was represented on the company’s website as being in stock.

After receiving no tracking information, I repeatedly contacted the company seeking an update. I emailed Ammo City Supply on August 25, August 26, August 27, twice on August 28, August 31, and twice on September 1.
Despite these repeated communications, I never received a tracking number or confirmation that the merchandise had actually shipped.

One response I received from the company stated:
“Hello , It looks like this was held up due to inventory issue.”
This was particularly concerning because the item had been advertised as in stock when I placed the order. The company did not provide a definite shipment date or tracking information after acknowledging the inventory issue.

I also asked Ammo City Supply multiple times to refund my order. Despite these requests, the company did not issue or offer me a refund. Because I could not obtain the merchandise, tracking information, or a refund directly from the company, I ultimately had to dispute the transaction with my credit-card issuer and initiate a chargeback.
I am concerned that this is not an isolated customer-service problem. I reviewed multiple Google reviews for Ammo City Supply describing similar experiences, including customers reporting unfulfilled or significantly delayed orders and having to resort to credit-card chargebacks to recover their money.

Based on my experience and the similar complaints reported by other customers, I am concerned that Ammo City Supply may be advertising merchandise as available, accepting payment, failing to promptly fulfill orders, providing vague or inconsistent explanations regarding inventory and shipping, and failing to honor customer requests for refunds.

I am asking the Federal Trade Commission to document this complaint and review Ammo City Supply’s business practices, particularly its representations regarding product availability, acceptance of payment for merchandise listed as in stock, order fulfillment and shipping practices, customer communications, and handling of refund requests.

I can provide supporting documentation, including my August 22, 2026 order confirmation, proof of payment, copies of my emails to the company, the company’s response citing an “inventory issue,” my repeated refund requests, documentation of my chargeback, and screenshots or links to other customer reviews describing similar experiences.

Question Why manipulate safeties on ARs?

I was wondering why are using safeties so important to rifles but not with handguns. Many handguns don’t even have external safes and most gun people would advise against using it on a CCW or duty gun. Yet w rifles (especially AR pattern) safety manipulation is a fundamental skill.

At first I thought it was because rifles don’t have built in drop-safes like handguns, but that doesn’t actually make sense because the safeties do nothing to stop the rifle from drop firing anyways. They are just trigger safes. So why don’t we treat rifles like handguns and remove the safeties all together or teach people basic muzzle discipline and trigger discipline are enough?

I figure I’m missing something but not sure what and am curious what your guys thoughts are.

EDIT: I get that rifles are slung w exposed triggers and that makes sense for why safeties wouldn’t be removed all together. But why make safety manipulation so important in something like CQB where the rifle is being handled the whole time and their is virtually no chance of the trigger being snagged

CMMG MK4 Atrius Super Selektor (mute if you don’t want the background music)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One thing that I love about being in Wisconsin, is the fact that we have very relaxing gun laws. I installed the atrius super selektor in my MK4, had to change the buffer tube to a 5 ounce. With that it ran very smoothly. I fired approximately 60 rounds in four seconds. And as long as the math is correct, this has approximately a 900 round minute rate.
