News Square Enix games aren’t eligible for Xbox D2D

Just an FYI for anyone that’s a fan of physical SE games on Xbox.

They haven’t allowed any SE games to allow the disc to digital program which I’m hoping is an oversight as it’s a really great service for the consumer and allows people with physical games to get the digital license so in the future when blu ray drives are gone you can still play your games without rebuying them digitally.

It’s anti consumer and I really hope they reconsider allowing physical games to be allowed to have the digital license on Xbox.

Discussion I need help choosing the next Final Fantasy game to play

’ve always been very interested in Final Fantasy. Years ago, I played *Final Fantasy VII Remake* and absolutely fell in love with it. After that experience, I tried playing *Final Fantasy X*, but unfortunately, it didn't click for me—I didn't like the turn-based system. So, I stopped playing the series for a while. Before I quit, I had wanted to try the original *FFVII*, but the fact that it wasn't available in Italian put me off completely. This year, I bought a pretty good laptop because I was heading to Japan for a year abroad. Once I arrived, I discovered that my host sister is obsessed with Final Fantasy (she actually owns a few of the games), which reminded me of my great experience with *FFVII Remake*. I asked her for a recommendation, and she suggested the original *FFVII*, explaining that I could download an Italian patch for it. I decided to download it with the patch and have fallen in love with the game; I’ve even installed high-resolution graphics mods, which makes the experience even better. My plan now is to play the original *FFVII*, *FFVII Remake Intergrade*, and *FFVII Rebirth* (I’ve decided to replay *Remake* because I don't remember much of the plot). In the meantime, my host sister and I bought *FFXV* together and are playing it as a team (we’re having a lot of fun with it). However, beyond *VII* and *XV*, I’d like to try other games in the series—specifically a turn-based one, since I’m enjoying the original *FFVII* so much. Could you recommend a *Final Fantasy* game that isn't too overwhelming for a newcomer to the turn-based genre? Also, would you suggest playing it on PC or PS5?

Thanks a lot!

FFVII Remake Discussion Final Fantasy 7 Remake - Chapters 12-14 Discussion (Gameclub Part 4)

Hello everyone,

I co-host a gaming book-club podcast called State of the Save. This is Part 4 of our 5 Part game-club on Final Fantasy VII Remake, covering from the fight at the pillar in Sector 7 to the beginning scene of Chapter 14 in the garden.

My co-host has never played the Original FFVII, so him piecing together the "ghosts" and what they mean has been really fun. Because of that, there's some end-of-disc-1 spoilers for the original game.

Discussion Brave Fencer Musashi is the most nostalgic game of all time for me

Post image

Which is kinda odd for a couple of reasons:

Is it the first video game I’ve ever played? No.

Is it the first JRPG I’ve ever played? No.

Is it the first Square game I’ve ever played? No.

And yet it just hits all the right spots. The music is what does it I think. It reminds me of an anime that you used to watch as a kid every day after school. I find this time kinda overused nowadays but the game also feels cozy. You get to know all of the areas of the game very well, the Fusion system makes it so the enemies are able to stand out in your mind as well. There’s only one real village but this game definitely maximized every single area of it.

It sucks that we don’t get games like this anymore. Just a fun little JRPG that overachieves by not going outside of itself and doing everything it does do at least good. Also Ocarina of Time killer Shot

Question Another FF14 Switch 2 sale soon?

I unfortunately missed the sale when FF14 for Switch 2 was on sale—I think the complete version was only €37? Now it’s €55, which is quite a big difference... 😞

Any chance there’ll be another sale soon? I’m getting close to the end of the free trial.

Discussion Haven’t played Secret of Mana since the ‘90s? Here’s the entire story to relive in about 25 minutes (including all relevant npc perspectives) Spoiler

Secret of Mana’s gameplay has always felt like a masterpiece for its time, but replaying it as an adult made me appreciate the storytelling in a completely different way. What once felt disjointed now feels like a fascinating product of its era, shaped by cartridge limits and a story that often had to say a lot with very little.

I kept looking for a comprehensive way to revisit the story, but nearly every summary I found severely undercut or skipped over the middle of the game. So I decided to write one that gave the whole story its due.

Discussion What's the lamest plot twist you've seen in a Square Enix game? Spoiler

Post image
32 Upvotes

It doesn't have to be bad. It could be off-putting, unappealing, predictable, forced, or makes the plot less engaging. Or a combination of any of those.

For those of you asking, I picked this one from Bravely Second. Mainly because of how cliche & foreseeable it was. It really leaned into the tired "Long lost sibling" angle. Plus, it makes the protagonist seem less sharp.

Anyway, what was the lamest plot twist you've seen from a Square Enix game. As I mentioned, it doesn't need to be bad. I can even be from a game you like quite a lot. Just be honest.
